Nito - You are going strong! I am going to forward that office video to my husband.

Swelling in trunk is down today. Compliance, compliance, compliance!!! Water, too. My steps are severely lacking lately. I need to pretend I'm on a road trip with my husband, get up and walk around the house for 10 min every hour.

    Nitocris--Thanks for the office workout!

Did an hour on treadmill yesterday and today--doing more intervals.

Went to office for an hour and got a total of 30 min on bike.

Now am crashed in my recliner.

20 measly minutes on a treadmill, got about 1.5 miles in, and an hour and 15 minutes in the weight room and doing flexibility work.  7800 steps in all, so not a stellar day, and I am now crashed at my desk!  Work to finish before heading out to a seminar tomorrow.  But no airport layover walking, because I'm going by car and by boat.  Not a cruise ship, boo...no track to walk!

Ah... forgot my pedometer today, had too much on my mind. Met with surgeon, MX scheduled for Monday - yeah! Will be off work for a few weeks, will focus on exercise and recovery. Looking forward to the final surgery - does excitement burn calories?

Ohio....Monday!!!  And here I was hoping to see you at the LE Summit in Columbus on August 14.  Maybe you'll have a speedy recovery?  Seriously, that's great, because I know you wrestled with the recon/no recon decision and I'll bet it feels very good to make 'decide' and 'do' happen in lockstep.  I'll be mostly out of touch while paddling next week -- no cell or data signal for a good part of the trip, from prior experience -- so I'll likely miss any reporting in that you might be able to do a few days afterward.  So, I'll send my boatload of brownies now!  Excitement does burn calories, so eat all the brownies without a second thought.  Ohio, I will absolutely be thinking of you on Monday.  Do we say 'break a boob' or anything like that to wish you luck for a trouble-free in-and-out of the OR and recovery?

It's prophy mx for you, right?  A huge sigh of 'goodbye risk, hello future' comes with it, and I am very happy for you that you feel so good about the surgery.  I did the same and never once have I looked back to second-guess.

Today I arrived in WI to find 100+ temp (same temp I left in MI).  I wanted to walk Madison, which has a fun little downtown, but not in this heat!  So before getting to town, I set the gps for a random shopping mall and spent a few hours there, with speedy stepping as my objective.  Got my 10,000+ steps in today as a result, but nothing particularly aerobic.  I did find a few items on my list for the paddling trip, so beneficial use of time all around.

Carole- funny thing... my BS is going on vacation 3 days after surgery so I have an extended followup. I have a nurse friend (from high school) coming to stay next week and also my two nurse sisters. BS says I am in good hands. I think we all expect a good outcome.

I hope to make the LE Summit on Aug 14 and return to work on Aug 15. For Summit, I plan to drive to Columbus Monday and get a hotel. First air travel will be to San Fran early September. Tight schedule so no time for anything to go awry.

Here it is 11:30 and I'm too wound up to sleep! Whew - didn't realize what a relief this would be.

Not much exercise yesterday.   Just logged in 5262 steps. Spend most of the time in the garden picking up the weeds in the morning.  Did a lot of "arm work" in the afternoon sanding wooden garden furniture in the afternoon.

I managed to squeeze in 15mn of stretching before showering and off to Helsinki for a concert.  Herbie Hancock and his band were playing in the new Music Center.  A unique and versatile style and a very interesting musical experience.  A great opportunity to listen to extremely talented musicians;  the finnish public is usually pretty "reserved", but those guys got a standing ovation.

Started today with a short D. Austin cardio workout and some stretches.

Next task:  oiling all the wooden furniture twice.  Have a good dayCool

Ohio, Becky, Tina, Carol...meeting at the LE summit.  This will be fun and I wish Binney and Kira and Nitrocris and everyone else could simply use the Star Trek method of traveling (cannot recall their name for it--dissolve and then reappear elsewhere instantly) to come as well.

Ohio, I'm sure you've read this, but a reminder is never a bad thing--don't let anyone push you to do stretching or shoulder exercises for at least 10 days post surgery; even with no nodes being removed, the LE risk is there, and keeping that arm at or below shoulder level for that time is demonstrated to reduce the incidence of LE.  And have you collected some 'want to do' pastimes to do during that first week or so at home, like books you've wanted to read, DVDs of movies you always wanted to watch?  We put those kinds of things off in daily life, but what a great, healing distraction post surgery.

Carol - thanks for the reminder on exercises. Are there any contraindications to lymph drainage post surgery? My massage therapist suggests starting treatment sooner than later on the surgery side. The surgeon is fine with it. I just wonder how many days to wait before having lymph treatment after surgery.

Just talked to old friend/co-worker (15 year survivor) who has had a horrible struggle with Stage 4 stagnant elephantitis. She is doing better now but her story of repeated cellulitis, etc. motivates me to want to do everything right! Not that she didn't but I sure do want to take every precaution.

Yes - I have movies, books, and a high school friend (nurse) coming to stay so I will be occupied.

Ohio, I'm not aware of any prohibition on MLD post surgery, and I think that Dr. Marga Massey has her patients receive it daily following surgery on a woman who has LE or is at risk due to node removal.  Perhaps Tina or someone else who had surgery by Dr. M will recount that experience for you.

Binney, beam coming your way, see you in a few seconds--we'll have a quick bite of chocolate together, chat a bit, and then I'll beam you back. That way we'll already be acquainted when you beam into the LE summit.  Sigh...would that this really be possible.  And while we're wishing, let's imagine that the process of 'beaming' is highly compressive, and we come out of each round trip with a wonderful and lasting reduction in LE symptoms.  Oh heck, beaming should be 'the' LE cure!  Where is Spock when we need him???

Ohio, I wish you the best with your surgery on Monday and will be thinking of you, too. I hope all goes well and we get to meet you at the conference.

Oh, and, yes, Carol, that's my fashionable night vest in my new avatar. Hey, I paid more for it than my winter coat, so I might as well show it off! ;-)

I'm joining you in the transporter, Binney!

Ohio, Dr. Massey prescribed MLD for two weeks after surgery. Had someone visit me in hospital in evening on day of surgery and do it. I performed on myself over weekends as well as I could. I had only truncal LE at the time, so that was focus. MLD included the breast area above and below incisions (avoiding drains) as well as main LE area on side of chest. It really helped.

    Carol,

I love the Star Trek teleportation idea.  I can just see myself clicking on my intercom and say "Nitocris to Carol, ready for beaming".Wink Definitely, the teleportation machine would be a perfect tool for us all.   We could "dematerialize" and rematerialize without LE.  Sighhhhhhh..... I am green with envy about the LE summit.  Too bad the organisers did not include a webinarFrown

Ohio, all the best for your surgery.

Hey I like the beaming all of us to Ohio in August.  Plus in the instant we are "beamed" we have had a great cardio workout!

Tina--The pic does not do your compression vest justice.  Seeing it on you in person a few weeks ago was definitely a fashion statement!  At the rate my trunk is going I will have one soon. I wonder if they come in blue.

No cardio yesterday as I had a Dr appt and then had to take my Mom to a retinal specialist.  We were there for 2 1/2 hrs!  I did roam around the waiting room though.

I am going to hit the treadmill in a few minutes then do weights.  Still too hot and humid to go outside plus thunderstorms keep popping up.  We had quite a lightening show last night.

Nitocris--You may be happy we cannot transport!  If so, I know about five or six of us would be beaming ourselves to Finland to visit you!

Tina - thank you very much for the info. Since the massage therapist isnt covered by insurance, I am going to schedule twice next week and three times following week. Fortunately, the therapist is willing to adjust pricing for LE patients who need return visits. Not sure how much that will be but anything will be welcome.

Nitocris, what is the best time of year to visit Finland? Just curious!

No real exercise for me today or yesterday, just on my feet all day teaching a seminar from 7:30 to 5 each day. Waiting to board a ferry now, and it is raining so walking during the wait is not a happy option. Tomorrow will be a better exercise day.

Had more steps today but can't prove it because I forgot my pedometer! I was a crazy girl today doing things outside this AM and around the house all day. Here it is late evening and just realized the pedometer is still on the counter.

Oh well... got my water in, I know I did more steps and now for some MLD before sleep.

My fingers are getting a major workout!! Pedometer, not so much. :-/

Fingers, hand and arm wrapped today after MLD. Then, lots of errands. Much typing, and what a nightmare (y'all know it!) while wrapped. Another major chunk of work completed, setting myself up to slide down next week's hill toward completion!! I need to have myself a summer with some free thoughts!

Hunkering down tomorrow to finish out the week on a high with major issues handled! Pedometer back on this weekend for real counting - and fun!

Trying to manage self care as much as possible, and it has been helpful having therapist perform MLD and kinesiotape me twice this week. Lots of deep breathing, water, wearing night compression vest over tape. Today felt much better. It's going to be in the 70's tomorrow!!! Yeah!

Nitocris, Becky, Carol and Ohio, and others (including me!), hang in there, you're still on track.

Ohio, a few days before each surgery, I have always done something that brings me great joy and reaches the deepest part of me in a positive way. That's always an art exhibit or hearing music live. It puts my heart and soul in the right place before a difficult process and gives me strength. So, art and music might not be what does that for you, but I hope you can find time to do things this weekend that nurture the part of you that brings a sense of peace.

    Hi

Has anyone seen Michael Alatriste in NYC? I am seeking a therapist in the metro NYC area.

    Thanks, VVH
