Kicking LEs butt!! Exercise & Self Care Log

Carol, I am bringing my garments and will gladly share. My hand and arm looked great this morning after wearing sleeve. Have to admit the vest by itself is warm enough, but the sleeve adds another layer of HOT to sleeping. My poor husband is going to freeze in hotel room.
We've been driving and stopping every hour to walk 10 min. The weather is remarkably cooler!! My truncal LE was bugging me last night and again this morning before we headed out, but I am hoping all the water and walking will help. Typical too much activity packing and putting house in order before leaving. Brought my bathing suit so I can swim in the hotel pool, so hopefully I can do that tonight before bed.0 -
Overnight with a 2 1/2 year old. I think that's exercise enough for one day. :-)

You've all out-done me today! Busy wrapping up all kinds of loose ends before heading to Columbus tomorrow to see family and go the the LE Summit. Had a wedding this evening, and about 75 minutes before stated departure time, I realized I had never done any exercise. So--popped in a Leslie Sansone 'two miles of intervals' which takes 33 minutes. Not enough, but enough to give me permission to have a wedding cupcake!
Mini, a 2 1/2 year old will keep you going and going and going...

Carol, your commitment to daily exercise amazes me. Even on one of your low count days, it's always one that I'd be glad to post. You deserved that cupcake!
We continued on to Columbus, stopping to walk every hour. Definitely adds to the travel time, but I feel so much better, and an hour driving just flies by. Got to the hotel and walked around until I had over 12,000 steps. I am declaring that as of today I'm getting back on track with my walking. At the hotel I also did six flights of stairs four times. We had a pizza delivered to our room because we were too lazy to eat out. After that, I didn't feel much like swimming, but now you know why I did some extra steps!0 -
Tina, the amazing one is you!!!!! And your husband must be a saint, because if I proposed stopping once per hour to walk to my DH, who is in every way a wonderful human being and understands my LE and other needs...he would not be a happy camper! I'm headed to Columbus in another hour or two, just me and the dog, and I'll stop, but only twice or so and just long enough for a one-function break, if you know what I mean--for both me and the dog. When I'm on the road, I just want to get there, as I don't enjoy driving long distances one bit. (And my super adorable granddaughter is at the end of today's drive, need I say more?)
So your drive-time walking and the hotel 12,000 are amazing!

Last night at the hotel after donning my night vest and sleeve, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. After a moment of recognition, I raised my sleeved arm, looked at my husband and said, "Hi, I'm Gumby!"
This morning I was telling my husband that the president of Solaris will be at the Summit, and he said to me, "Why don't you take a black Sharpie with you and ask him to autograph your vest?" Funny man, that one. He did take the pic of me I posted earlier and laughed at my pledge of allegiance, so I guess I had that coming!
Carol, my husband is very good about my LE most of the time, but he did get a little testy yesterday at one point. The main thing I need to do to make the drive/walk thing a success is to be ready to leave earlier in a.m., which is certainly not too much to ask. How long does it take you to get to Columbus from MI?0 -
Tina, the CEO of Solaris is Kathy Weatherly, but her son Kyle does a lot with the business also. They are very friendly and open to feedback and contact with us LE people. Actually, all the contact I've had with Solaris staff has been really positive.
Binney and I spoke with Kathy at the Essentially Woman conference, and she was great to us.
I sat next to Kathy at a meeting in the fall, and she's kind of a riot. I did haul out my Solaris to show her some issues with it--we'd emailed before, so it wasn't a sneak attack.
My DH will run out of patience with my LE: like he just got a new kayak and I want to start again, but he's concerned about the upper body use and thinks--he's probably right on this one--that bike riding with him is the better route to go. But when our neighbors congratulated him on the new kayak, he said something snarky like "Oh, she never goes out..." Um, I did all time until LE....
So, it's HIS new kayak, not our new kayak.
Wish I was in Ohio with all of you.

Last longish car trip, I insisted on the rest stops every hour, over silent but obvious objections from DH (who is of the "just get there!" mentality). But once we arrived he volunteered the information that the stops had actually made the trip much easier on him, so now we have a new policy and the hope of arriving refreshed instead of bushed. Maybe the LE learning curve has it's good points!

When my 90 yr old mother travels with me I have to stop for her every hour as she gets so stiff with her arthritis. So when LE reared its ugly head I was already used to it. Often just a few minutes with some pumping in the air helps a lot.
0 -
My drive to Columbus from MI was 5.5 hours long, including the one 15-minute break I took. I guess I'm goal oriented! (But I do pump my fist and do deep ab breathing as I drive. ) I got almost no exercise today, but the day was great for many other reasons (grandchild being reason #1), so you won't hear me complaining!
0 -
That's a longer drive than I thought, Carol. Glad you made it safely with the pooch.
Today I clocked 11,245 steps. Part of it walking around town, remainder on treadmill at hotel. Back to bed now!0 -
I got up at 5:00 am. I have done one hour of weights, 1/2 hr of treadmill, MLD, MLD exercises. I have my suitcase packed and ready to go to LE Summit in Columbus. As soon as I shower and dress I am on my way. You must have an SUV Carol because the roof of my car is not high enough to pump. I have to get out to do that.
0 -
No SUV, Becky, so my arm is at an angle, but still quite elevated. We do what we can, when and where we can!
0 -
I angle my arm up in a sub compact car and fist pump. I also reach ahead towards the windshield and stretch. I do the queens wave to. I figure anything is better than nothing. I also take a few deep breaths in the car and I am getting into the habit of taking 3-5 deep breaths as I approach my car before I get in. I also take breaths as I walk from the parking lot to my office, cause I know once I sit in my desk chair it will be a couple hours before I can get outside to take in fresh air.
This thread is quiet and the reason is because most of our girls are at the summit exercising their jaws! I am happy they have the opportunity to go.
I took 2 /15 min walks today and stretched out at the office.

Aww Hugz...we were exercising our ears!! The summit was great! And on the exercise front, Becky and I walked to a restaurant for dinner, taking a long route through a lovely park to get there, for a total of 11,400 steps today, despite sitting in a conference all day. Not bad!
0 -
Carol, I can't believe you clocked all those steps today! Hope you guys had a productive review and an enjoyable dinner. You certainly put in a long day of LE learning!
Tonight I finally got a chance to swim in the hotel pool. It was marvelous, and I was in for well over an hour. I do not know where the time went! I started out tentatively with my hair pulled up, planning to keep it dry. After 45 min, I was in the zone, hair sopping wet, playing and moving around, just enjoying the freedom of being in the water and listening to my body. It was such a pleasurable experience. I definitely need to swim more. I did breathing exercises and some MLD while in the water, and my trunk, arm and hand feel and look great. I swiped the pool towel and walked up six flights of stairs to my room to avoid dripping all over the hotel lobby and elevator!0 -
You summit girls had a busy day for sure. And Carol and Becky , you got some exercise in. What stamina you have!
Tina, swimming is freeing isn't it. I love to float on my back and just stare at the ceiling and dream...well until a kid comes by and nearly crashes into me! Gotta have all senses in operation to avoid a kid crash! I am glad you enjoyed your swim, you probably were still thinking of your fortunate meeting with Bob W. What a good way to end the day! I was thinking that Bob was truly your saviour and you will never forget him in your entire life. People like that always find a small place in your heart and never leave.
I am now going to practice wrapping as an exercise. I am getting a jumpstart for the Brazil Olymphics! Look out world!

All I have been doing is my computer work from 4am- 12:30, nap, eat dinner, go to bed... This sucks... it was 109 in Oregon yesterday where I live. I have no energy - I am told it might be the first surgery with Breast LE on that breast that is taking all my energy???- I have done partial MLD the last few days and noticed the swelling isn't too bad.. and walked around the house - guess that counts for something.. I don't like being tired and depressed...
Edit: I get to see my ONC that gave me a 9 month reprieve on the Anti-estrogen treatments... Wonder what he has in mind - next weds I see him - I need your help the three that I tried, he took me off because of unbearable side effect... I tried and he said it wasn't worth me suffering that bad, but was talking tamoxifen?? I still have my ovaries that are supposedly shut down, but the SE of cancer of the ovary?? Not sure what to do.. But I don't want the cancer back either.. I'm in a conundrum...

Got my cardio other exercise working at the Food Bank today. So much more fullfillng than walking on a treadmill or around the neighborhood. :-)

Wow, Mini, what a great way to multitask: a heart workout with heart! Do you stock shelves, or walk the clients through to fill a basket, or is it another job that you do? I have friends volunteering at the Kalamazoo food bank, and they come home tired but pleased every time.

We opened, inspected, repackaged, taped and loaded 3 pallets of cereal, and then got a reprieve and worked on a mass mailing they are doing. It's a service week for the kids at our church (5th & 6th grade) and they have worked their fannies off. So far they've worked both the Food Bank and one of the local Food Pantries, cleaned at a domestic violence center, sorted through a mountain of school supplies and then filled 146 back packs to be donated, and cleaned school lockers at one of the schools.
Our food bank serves 9 counties in SE MI, including yours, I believe. It was great. I think I'm going to keep on volunteering when my schedule allows. Your friends are right, it's tiring but very rewarding. :-)

I am now back in TN from Ohio LE Summit. It was awesome. I cannot believe Carol and I got over 11,000 steps in yesterday--mostly last night walking to a restaurant and back. I cancelled out all of the steps with a wonderful dinner and ice cream afterward. I am skipping cardio today after seven hours on the road. I did stop frequently and walk around. Tomorrow is another day.
0 -
Today I managed to do about 20 minutes of walking in an airport between flights, and on arrival in HOT Tulsa (100 or so), I walked another half hour, but at a pretty slow pace to avoid over-heating, so my step count is about 8,000 for the day. I don't like to do Leslie Sansone or other arm-pumping cardio on flight days, so I'm done for the day and will see what I end up doing indoors tomorrow, before or after my seminar.
oh, and Hugz..Becky and I most certainly did exercise our jaws on that walk!!!
Carol

Boy were we exercising our jaws! Kira and Binney were your ears burning? You too Hugz. We think you have such a delightful sense of humor!
It was in low 60s today so I went out to the dam and logged in 5 miles. Now off to work. I will have to do weights this afternoon.
0 -
Becky, it was good to hear you did your damm walk! Low 60's would make it a pleasure. I tried this afternoon but it is too hot to even stroll so I went back to office and stretched on the floor. Felt good. Maybe you girls should stretch out your jaws after all that chatting!
Seriously I am so happy you all got to meet. Maybe we will have a conference out west and you can come this way. I am still too scared to fly Dang it!
Mini1, Thank you so much for making the world a better place to live.

I wow on my grandpappy's grave that I will do Lebed tonight! I may have to do it naked with the curtains shut though. I don't want to scare anyone including the crows on the lines looking in!
0 -
Surely... you all don't have heatstroke! Where ....... are YOU! Ok....that's it. If you can't beat em then join em. So...I'm heading outside for a few deep breaths of hot air. I hope I don't cook my remaining lymph nodes out there! Maybe I will melt some fat off
Did my Lebed opening as promised and will do it tonight.

I have little to report in the exercise department. Travel, but with short connections so no good opportunity to get airport walking in. And lots of pressure to get work done in odd free moments, so I didn't push myself to find time and a way to exercise yesterday and today. Tomorrow--will be better!
0 -
Nothing to report for me. Started back to work and was whooped at days end. I think the days are too intense and I don't push away from the desk. Just plain worn out in the evenings.
Hopefully all the tomorrows will be better one day at a time.
0 -
Maybe pushing away from the desk is the best kind of activity of all! I'm guilty of not doing that, all too often. One day at a time is a very intelligent approach, Ohio!
