    lurking, unable to do much since fall. i walk alittle if hubby is there. hope to do more soon.

    I got about 3.5 miles in today, most of that during a walk pushing my granddaughter's stroller.  This girl loves speed, and she sang the whole way, which made the time fly by.

    Tallied over 10,000 steps today. My husband and I took a three mile walk, and I noticed I am improving. When I used to walk with my husband, he always complained I moved too quickly (I don't really walk that fast since I have short legs), but over the past few years I could tell he was in better shape. We have walked the hilly neighborhood together many times, and I know the routes that made it clear he was in greater condition. Today I was hardly winded. We decided to take our winding road that is a slow but long incline up into town and then take another route back to the house. I didn't use bug spray, and once we left the hilly neighborhood and got on our wooded road, I realized there were mosquitoes because of the creek. At that point, I told my husband I was going to risk burning all my energy by hoofing it the entire way to town, and I took off. Well, it wasn't long before my husband began complaining he couldn't keep up with me, and I wasn't even going full out. :-)




    Saw my therapist on Friday and she was really pleased with the fit of my night sleeve and with how I am doing. Next appt is in two weeks for measuring. I love my night sleeve/glove combo. It has reduced the swelling in my hand immensely, and my forearm is doing very well. My bad arm was only 2% bigger than my good arm last time we measured, which matched my pre-swelling condition last December when I was having initial sensations. Hoping I stay that low now that I have the night sleeve.




    I have also been sleeping on my back using the pillow instructions Binney was given by someone here - I forget who, but thank you! It really makes a difference with my truncal LE. I've always preferred sleeping on my back most of the time - and I rarely turn onto my good side now.

    Carol--I bet that walk with Ellie was pure joy.  Did you all go into the park?  She is a doll and was just warming up to me when I had to leave.Cry

    Tina--Way to go.  You will be ready to do your killer hill with me when I come to visit my sister.Tongue out

    Yesterday I did the weights and an hour on the treadmill. 

    Ohio--Take it slowly in getting back to work.  Take breaks.  You did seem to have so much energy at the Summit but I know we often are more tired inside than we show on the outside.  I loved your sense of humor and I did enjoy meeting "Martha".

    Becky, I'm already fine with the big hill, so come on up! :-)




    Today I did a 5.5 mile walk and felt great after, no swelling. Lots of water before, during and after. Total steps for today are just over 13,000. Donning my night garments and climbing in bed.




    I really hope the heat wave has finally lifted. I am enjoying the cooler weather.

    Sixty degrees right now at 7:00 am.  I am off to the dam right now--will do weights later. 

    I cannot wait for fall weather!

    Tina, I hope that walk ended with some extended back-patting!  Great report!

    I got on the scale this morning after being away for a week, when I did not get my usual amount of exercise (by a long shot) and when I ate more than my usual amount of food; and I did not record food as usual, either.  I expected to see a pound, maybe even two gained but was prepared to just resolve to return to the healthy routines.  But astonishingly...I lost a pound this week.  Must have been more exercise value to jaw-flapping (Hugz' term) than I imagined! 

    Oh wait...maybe it was the bourbon truffles Becky brought to Columbus.  Are they weight-loss magic?

    Anyway, back to the routine anyway.  I have a check-in appt. with my CLT this morning, and that'a s good way to re-instate the LE and exercise resolve.

    Carol, you had precious time with family and friends - that must have kept your metabolism running high. I have been thinking of those bourbon truffles, too. They were delicious. Now we're back to virtual chocolate! Well, most of the time. ;-)




    You are right about the back patting, as I have been doing that each time I have pushed forward a bit. I am at the point where I can see real progress.

    I had a pretty good LE care and exercise day! Started with MLD. Logged 9600 steps, including some running on a treadmill. I did weights/cardio/flexibility at the gym for 90 minutes, and it felt great. Met with my CLT today, and measures are good. Will close the night with more MLD.

    Late for bed but wanted to check in. I walked 5.5 miles again today, over 13,000 steps. Feeling good, drinking plenty of water.




    Becky, I have come to the conclusion that the adjacent hilly neighborhood is just as difficult as doing the path with the killer hill. In some ways it's actually harder because there's a shorter, steeper hill but I have to go up it at least three times.




    It was warmer today, even sunny at one point, and my feet got a little sweaty towards the end. I was concerned I might get a blister, but I think I am okay. I know dry socks really make a difference, especially on long walks. I could bring a spare pair on warm days, but that's kind of goofy. Does anyone have a certain kind they wear for warm outdoor weather?

    It was warm and sunny and my feet were a little tender, so no walking today. Tomorrow I'm going to the park since it's fairly shady. No big miles to report today.

    Today was a good exercise day for me!  I started my day with Leslie Sansone, and later went to the gym, for my cardio-weight lifting-flexibility work.  Pedometer shows over 12,000 steps so I'm happy about that.  I'll be doing MLD at bedtime.  Skipped it this morning on waking. Usually I do it first thing, but I was so intent on my resolve to workout before getting sucked into professional work, I literally forgot the MLD!

    Okay, having busted three pedometers (including a downright expensive oneMoney mouth), I've come up with a simpler (if not as accurate) method for motivating myself to walk. I'm an in-house walker, so I counted the steps it takes me to cover my "route" from library to dining room to kitchen to hallway to bedroom and around my bed to the far corner and back again. And at one end of the route I placed a plastic mixing bowl and a bag full of old wine corks I've been saving for a few years (to make a bulletin board out of, actually, but of course I've never gotten around to it). Every time I finish a circuit of my route I toss a cork into the bowl, and at the end of the day count them, multiply by the number of steps (70) and ta-da! I have a (very rough) idea of how many steps I've taken. Or at least how many in relation to a baseline, which is what I need to move forward.

    Yesterday I managed to get my entire bag of corks into the bowl!Laughing I'm way behind today, but determined to transfer all my corks again before bedtime. (Hmmmm, that was a very strange sentenceSurprised). Which brings me to a dilemma of how to improve if I'm already using all my corks. Maybe tomorrow I'll toss in my clothespin supply....

    Binney - How much butt bustin am I supposed to do with the cellulitis? Walking around the store waiting for my Rx, I noticed the bite was swelling. Guess I rest a bit longer?

    Carol, I got distracted by Binney and Gma's posts! LOL I had planned to say what a great day you had. Way to go with such a full workout and total steps.




    And, I almost forgot to post my own workout, too! I don't know how I went more than half the day without wearing my pedometer. Phooey. Well, I know I didn't miss clocking anything remarkable. It has been hot and humid again and will be hotter tomorrow. Too warm this morning, but I went out just before sunset and got 2 miles in. Not happy because I had to give it up before I wanted. I really need to start using the treadmill so I can't blame the weather.

    Hi!  My niece is visiting and has been going out to the dam early each morning to walk with me.  It is so much more fun when you have company.

    Corks?  Whatever works Binney.  You get some arm movements tossing the corks!  Go around twice and then toss a cork and you can double your count.  I would run in place by the cork bowl to have fun tossing one in every 70 steps quickly.

    I know the Olymphics won't come around again for a few years, but we should definitely add the Cork Relay to our event list!

    Okay, yesterday I ended up a few corks shy of a bowl.Frown But today I started early and all the corks are in the bowl, plus two more I found in the silverware drawer (which is still in the living room since our kitchen disaster redo has met with every set-back imaginable) and three clothepins.Smile

    Becky, I like your idea of running in place to score more corks in a shorter time, and I'll try it tomorrow. But no way I can do two laps per cork because my lymphedema-brain will not allow me to count to two while walking.Tongue out

    I love it Binney!  Thought?  Where did all of your corks come from?  I am imagining that if you run out you will open another bottle of wine to get a cork for another round.Laughing Would make for happy walks!

    Am doing weights this am then off to a funeral.  Sad as it is a former student who committed suicide.  I had his wife in some of my classes.  Hope to get on treadmill after I get home to work off the frustration of it all.

    Becky, how sad.  That is very, very frustrating.  I feel for his family, as I can only imagine all the difficult 'what if' questions they must be asking. How very hard.

    Becky, I hope you worked off some of the sadness and frustration on the treadmill.




    Walked a little over three miles today with my husband in the hilly neighborhood. Hot, humid, but at least overcast. We decided to let up on the speed so we didn't get as overheated. Wanted to do another loop around but we had to get ready and meet friends. Tomorrow we're going again.

    I did 45 hard minutes on the treadmill when I got home.

    Funeral was so sad.  He was only 24 yrs old and at the top of his class in med school.  His bride of 8 mos is in total shock.  She just started teaching kg the week before for the first time.  So hard to understand.
