Tina--I hope you finally got some sleep.

Did 5 miles walking out at dam yesterday plus weights.  Today did 6 miles with more intermittent running than yesterday.

Carol--We were entering at the same time!

I use loseit.com to track my calories and exercise. It is free. I also count weight watcher points--under old system.

I have also been stuck at 75 lbs wt loss and have 20 more to go.  But now that summer travel and trips are over I am back on track.

way to go Becky & Carol!

Tina that was great that your dh talked you into a walk- it really is so good for us.

I use a pedometor & I have a Polar HR monitor that I use to keep track of steps & calories burned.

As i get in better shape (loose weight) its very hard to burn calories!

I found a big Fan on a stand at a garage sale yesterday.  dh took it apart & cleaned it up really good & it looks brand new & works great!   I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill today...More then I have done in a long time. (burned 250 calories)

I have 3# left to loose to reach my goal...But my weight tends to sit for 1-2 months each time I loose...so I wait patiently.

I use a fitbit too.  It interfaces nicely with myfitnesspal for a good diet and exercise combo.  I'm just starting to look at Spark People too.  I love that they have a weekly menu all set up for you.  And it's a boon for a picky eater, like me.  Don't like their suggestion? click and choose from a list of comperable choices.  Get the plan set up for the week, print out the shopping list, spend part of the weekend doing some prep work, and with help from the crock pot meal prep is a breeze.  I love to cook, but only when I want to cook, you know?

Walked a little over 1.5 mi today. Almost didn't walk at all, so it's better than nothing. Feeling pooped. Going to bed and turning out the light now!

Yesterday I walked about 3 miles and then was able to spend 40 minutes in a pool. I spent most of that time experimenting with strokes that keep the LE arm submerged, but not doing much work.  Picture a one-armed breast stroke, one-armed side stroke, one-armed elementary back stroke.  No speed records, but it accomplishes the goal of water pressure without a lot of resistance on the arm.

Going to get my lab work done and then to a second hand store to find beads... I'm making the seniors at church med alert braclets because none of them seem to get the idea it is a good thing to wear..

GmaF, that's a great project.  Now, to nag:  did you park a bit away from the store and get some steps in on your way to your bead expedition?  Even a few steps?

I stayed busy all day on sedentary activities, and before I knew it, it was 5:45 and my pedometer reading was sad.  So I turned on my fav. news show and caught up on the days's events (and put up with annoying politics!!!) while jogging in the house.  I got my four miles in wtihin 45 minutes, so I can eat more than a few bites of the bread I baked this morning!

I did start wondering at some point if it's a set-up to injury when you make a lot of very tight turns while jogging. I did this in a space that's about 27 feet, end to end.

Carol - I got about 1.38 miles in lol - I don't think my pedometer is working because I walked every isle at costco, 4 second hand stores and then picked apples and made 9 quarts of applesauce.. it only said 2939 steps. It is a bummer - no wonder I can't lose weight, but still having pain in the breast when I try to walk and swing my arms.. I just don't know... Got to be happy I did that many steps I guess...Undecided

Is anyone doing any weight training? I am participating in a weight training and LE study, but feel pretty guilty that I haven't been able to do the exercises for months due to port removal, nipple reconstruction and an LE flare up. Haven't done it since April :(. Been pretty good with getting cardio in though. I did 4 miles today between the elyptical and the treadmill. It tookme 45 minutes. Good for you Carole getting 4.5 miles in. Ou gave me something to shoot for! Kay from Philly

Kay, 4 miles is a wonderful accomplishment!  I'm lifting weights, following the PAL guidelines with a trainer who went to a PAL workshop. My LE is stable, so I'm in a good position to do that.  Sounds like you've had some roller coaster rides that would make it difficult to be consistent with weight training, and with LE, you do need to be able to be pretty regular in resistance training, or you just set yourself up for flares.  Staying with cardio is a great way to stay in the exercise groove as you wait for your surgery and LE life to settle down.  Weights will wait for you, and it sounds like you want to get back to it, and that's already more than half the battle!

Went on my biggest hike of the year, Summerland at Mt Rainier. It's 8.5 miles with 2,000 feet of elevation gain. A thigh burner for sure. Went up with no garments and my arms behaved! No flare ups. Had a friendly marmot plop down on a rock next to us during lunch. He got lots of attention from all the hikers.

Yell I allegedly burned 1500 more calories a day than I ate this week.  By rights that should = 3 lbs weight loss.  I gained 2 lbs.  I'm thinking it's probably fluid retention otherwise, I don't know what's going on.  I've kept the salt under 2200 mg.  I measure and read labels. I don't cheat so grrrrr.  I shouldn't complain, I've lost 32 lbs in 14 weeks, which is quite respectable, but ...

Hey Cindy--Hang in there.  I only lose about a lb a week so 32 in 14 wks is great.  Sometimes too I am so sure I should have lost only to see an extra lb or two.  I also have to be very careful with sodium.

Nibbana--Way to go.  I bet the scenery was something.

Kay--Sounds as if you have been through a lot!  Really start up slowly when you go back to weights.  It is great you are keeping up with cardio.  When I stabilized I began strength training on legs at first then slowly moved to arms.  I am following the PAL protocol with my therapist guiding me.  After a year I am still not where I ever was before LE but I am progressing.

Gma--I am always surprised how low my steps are when I am in a store.  I think it is because we stroll slowly and look at things.

I hope to get out to the dam this afternoon after church but it may rain.  So my cardio decision is on hold until this afternoon.  I just don't think I can face the treadmill.

Gma, walking or exercising through pain--not sure that's the best answer, so do take it slowly. Sounds like your pedometer may not pick up every step, and that can happen, for sure.  Picking apples sounds like a lot of work!

Nibbana, I'm astonished you had no LE issues with that altitude!  Perhaps the gradual climb at a walking pace helped prevent problems.

Cindy, might it help to change the type of exercise you do for a few days?  If we get too efficient at one or two types of movement, I think there's a theory that we may not be expending the energy that we might, if we tried something different. In any case, don't be discouraged. I'll bet your weight loss kicks back in soon.

    Thanks Becky.

Carol - You may be onto something there.  I walked and walked and walked. This week and did my pt stretches but didn't do much else.   I didn't even make it to the pool.  There are so many things I avoid doing because I'm trying not to kick off the LE that I tend to really get in a rut.  May have to at least dig out a couple of different wii games and see if there's anything there...

Today for once in a long time I can participate on this thread.  DH and I walked to McDonalds, 20 minutes one way.  Had a coffee (nothing else even though I do LOVE their sausage McMuffin) and walked home.  I have no idea how many steps.  It's a lovely cool morning.  Just perfect to set the exercise wheels (or feet so to speak) in motion.

Marple, true confession:  I love McD ice cream cones!  Fewer than 200 calories, cold, sweet...I work it into my daily food plan from time to time.  I simply adore ice cream and don't find it for fewer calories anywhere else. Even when I make it at home, it's more calorie dense. Nearest McD is a 10-mile walk from my house.  Haven't walked there yet. I could do one-way, but the round trip is a bit intimidating!

And, please participate here as often as you like. It's about LE care, too, in case you're doing anything to help or prevent LE, like LeBed-type stretching, deep ab breathing, MLD.

I so wish I could do what Marple and Carol do! Living on a mountain top - the elevation goes for 500 ft to 1300ft in 1.5 miles - and then it is 4 miles down a highway into town... Don't think I'm up to that either way Wink.. It takes 20 minutes to drive to town to McD's. I used to come into town and walk with friends in the morning - but now work gets in the way with that.. I am going to try to walk a little slower around my house - outdoors without swinging my arms so much - wish me luck! A pain free week would be nice.

    Thank you Carol.

Gma, I wonder how the elevation is affecting your LE?

I live in flatland country, so no elevation issues.  When I was working in Denver a few months, back, I did not notice any problems with the LE, but I sure did some unaccustomed heavy breathing while speed walking!  Any chance the heavy breathing cancelled out the altitude's LE effects? (That would be wistful thinking for anyone visiting the mountains with LE....)

I lost my pedometer but before I lost it I did 5600 steps that was early afternoon yesterday... I moved it from my waist to my side pocket... it seemed to work better... At 4 am, I'm not going to turn on my bedroom light and wake up DH, I hope I can find it!

Dawn~what a proud proud moment.  Amazing really!

I think my exercise today will be in and out of the car.  Is that an exercise?  I have errands to do including dropping off a new sleeve that's the wrong one.  (I have the worst luck with sleeves.)  Whoops, the sleeve issue is for the Grrrrr thread. ;)

Despite my inactivity today I think posting here will keep me (might keep me) more mobile.  Ha, just not today.

I will live vicariously through Dawn for today.
