Well, the NLN week was a long trip, so I had a third small bag with me. Just in the spirt of full disclosure!

Ho, Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo! Dawne, try this for your woodsy walking:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hta5sLWlBMQ&feature=relatedThe road goes ever on and on...

Binney, all those would be beautiful places to add to a bucket list, if we knew where to find them! Thank you for posting.
0 -
Binney really enjoyed that.

Binney - Ahhhhhh! Awesome. Thank you!
One of those places looked very similar to where I walked yesterday.
I'm an amateur photographer and for a couple of years I couldn't stop taking pictures of paths. I have about 20 that are frameworthy and there were quite a few in there that reminded me of those pics.
Tolkien is one of my heroes.
Thanks.

Carol - Thank you for posting about your packing methods. I'm not sure I could pull off what you do because I when I fly, it is usually for more than a few days and I have to really watch my right arm and my left is my LE arm so I don't know if I could get by with pulling a carry on for hours on end.
It gives me something to think about, though, and I appreciate you spelling it out for me.

I know this isn't resting and I'm still leaking but had to pick them for sauce... I did it the way you are supposed to...all the precautions.. and I sat down on a foot stool...

Today our dog training club and the 4H did a Responsible Dog Owner day today. Lots of demo's and fun with friends with dogs. Mocha and I did a nosework demo.
Walked a few thousand steps and just had a nice relaxing time. It's been too long...

Proudtospin: We usually do it 2 ways: #1 Just tomatoes and a little red wine vinegar....#2 Tomatoes, peppers, onions and a little red wine vinegar... cook it up and water bath can them - I don't use pressure cookers in my house... I was around when one blew up and people got hurt... I am deathly afraid of them...

What a fabulous Saturday, judging by the interesting ways those here have spent it so far. LE does not define our lives...here's the proof!

Binney, those images, beautiful but the music.................magnificant. So powerful, so moving.
I'm hoping to walk to McDonald's for coffee tomorrow. Boy, one walk/week. Lots of room for improvement here. :P

One walk per week is a lot stronger than zero walks per week!

Binney, I spent two days in Yosemite this past August, and your video brought it back to me. Thanks! Carole, it is great that you only have to wear the sleeves like that. If I have mine off for an hour, I can see the difference in my arm. Is that how most people are with it? The last time I wasat the therapist's, he asked if he oil take pictures of my hand and arm to use for training. Of course, I want to do what I can to help educate, so I let him do it. I have been wondering what that says about my LE though. I thought about sending him the pictures from the pictorial here, but wasn't sure how people would feel about it.
Didn't make the gym today, but did walk the dogs a couple of times and walked around we Wegmans and Costco. Was a beautiful day here, got up to 81 and sunny until about 8 pm.0 -
Lovetocook, I'm grateful every day for how mild my LE has become, and aware always that not everyone is able to get there. I was diagnosed when my arm was barely swollen--I could only see some truncal swelling, but a perometer picked up a significant difference between my two arms. I guess I'm a good argument for what they're calling prospective surveillance, i.e. get us measured before BC treatment and watch like a hawk for early LE symptoms. I definitely feel the LE in the arm, and some days I do wear my sleeve all day, sometimes for days in a row. I do daily MLD and get super achey if I skip it. But yes, I'm very lucky.
Wegmans and Costco are enormous...bet you got a couple of miles out of those spots!

According to the lady on my phone app 'Map My Run' I did 4.73 miles in 1 hour and 18 minutes tonight.
It was 66 degrees when I started. The sky was that clear, bright blue that Autumn brings. The air smelled of hay. The crickets and the frogs were singing. I walked down the easy, curvy country road. I saw a couple of deer. A bunny jumped out of the bushes and hopped away ... all I could see was the white, fluffy tail.
The crisp air felt sooooo good! I wanted to skip, run a little but needed to take it bit easy after my hike and run yesterday. I did a couple of miles and circled back to my car. It was dusk but decided I wasn't done. I picked up my mp3 and put the earphones in my ears. I made a running mix for the race on Sunday but decided before the race that I didn't want to bother with it. I wanted to absorb every aspect about the race and not tune anything out. I started off down the road again and saw a couple of more deer standing off the road. A fairly big buck ... six point maybe ... and a doe standing in a field with horses nearby. I walked down a hill and ah, yes, the country dogs that come and nip at your heels. A hand to my side was all they needed and they backed off. I walked up a hill, around the corner and the stars ... it was a clear enough night that you could see the stars on the horizon. I turned around and started back towards my car ... and there was a half moon in the southern sky. As I got closer to my car and the lady on my phone kept shouting out my time and my pace ... I realized even more what a miracle last Sunday was. Tonight I was averaging a little bit more than 16 minutes a mile. Last Sunday I was averaging about 12 minutes a mile. Did I have angels wings? There was a time when I would have lamented a 12 minute mile and been embarrased. Now, it is a miracle. I'm still in awe of how far I've come.
As dusk turned to night and I was alone on the country road I felt so free! Had no idea how much like a caged bird I had felt this summer ... so hot, so cooped up ... I no longer cared about babying my knees... I began to skip ... then I began to dance. Yes, I did! I danced down the road for joy. I've spent so much of the last two years in the land of grrrrrrrrrr....so many tears, so much hopelessness, so much despair, so much banging my head upon the wall ... as I listened to the songs on my mp3 ... I realize more than ever before how far I've come. My heart is so full. I really feel like I've turned a corner ... and I don't want to live anymore in the land of grrrrrr. I think I'm moving on, ladies ... and for that I am so thankful ... and you all are a big part.

BeckySharp - I keep thinking this and keep forgetting to post it ... you could totally do a 5k if you wanted! All those 10 mile walks to the dam ... a 5k is a little over 3 miles ... that's just barely getting warmed up compared to the ten miles!0

Dawne, What a wonderful run you had. Glad you had a break thru. Reading your post made me feel like I was running with you!
No walkies today but 2 lebed openings. I am trying to watch my blood blister on my finger. I am warding off all the celulitis devils away also from my blister. So far so good.I am almost up to 12 glasses of water and deep breathing to.
Carol, you worked so hard to manage your LE and it has worked. Good that you stay on top of it. I have barely any swelling in arms/hands but continue to wear my gear daily.(truncal is swelled daily, I wear shapers most days and nightly for sure with a swell spot)
Sometimes I just want to take my le gear off for a week and see what happens. Well I did take it off for an evening meeting last Thurs. after wearing it 10 hours. I felt like I was betraying my arm and that I would wake up the next day swollen. It was fine. My MLD girl says it is most important to wear my sleeves etc. first this in the morn. for 10-12 hours. I guess this is because we are more normalized after a sleep and when we don our stuff in the morn the swelling maintains better.
Tomarrow I am going to walk especially since Dawne took us thru her run. It inspired me to get out.

hugz4u - It was a walk, not a run. Except maybe a little at the end.
Sorry about your blood blister. It sounds like you are doing the right things, though.
Enjoy your walk tomorrow! xoxo

rain, rain, go away...yesterday after cheering my trainer in a downpour + hail, I hunkered down inside my house as it continued to rain. I stayed on my feet the full day except for dinner time, so I got about 9,000 steps in, but just from moving, not from any particular exercise. That's better than sitting all day, for sure. Today it is still raining so I'll have to do an indoor cardio activity of some sort. Or just decide to get wet. Funny thing, I kayaked one 9-hour day in a downpour and didn't mind a bit. Walking just feels different to me!

Truth or dare. Truth!! Ahem, we drove to McDonalds for breakfast. I gave in to my sausage McMuffin craving from last week. In my defence I had to wrap today so um......well I'm not sure why that meant we had to eat at McDonalds. On the other hand when we came home I did MLD and wrapped. DH and I just got back from about a 50 minute walk!! Yay.
Now that the cooler weather is here and with all the inspiration on this thread I will try for more frequent walks. It's such a lovely time of year. The maples are really starting to show their splendid fall colours.
Happy day all.

For those that don't like walking in the rain. It use to bug me to until I found out others don't like walking in the rain and so I got the whole neighbourhood to myself. No kids screaming, no dogs charging you, no other people bumping into you on the boardwalk.....They all stay home and it is so peaceful and quite. Here is the secret. Break out the wallet and dust off the moths and go buy a gortex coat and some waterproof pants. My pants are grown-up 10 dollar muddy buddies we use to put our kid in. You won't get too sweaty in them if your walk is about a hour long. Otherwise I bring out my big guns...The true gortex water pants ...150 dollars!
I also have gardened in the rain and that is a very peaceful time to as the neighbours are all inside to scared to get wet!
That all said, It's not that I love the rain, I don't perfer it. It can get me down. I still wait for it to dry up a bit if I can. Being on the West... I mean "Wet" coast we have to adapt othewise we will have to stay in 3/4 of the year!

I don't mind walking in the rain but my dogs don't much care for it. And they are Labradors!! Hugz, you are so right about walking in the rain. It can be very peaceful without all the fair weather folk about. I love when the leaves are off the trees in the sugarbush, later in the fall and it rains. The wet leaves are so quiet to walk on. When they are dry they're crispy underfoot.

Nice, sunny, and cool here. Went out to dam this afternoon and did 5 miles. Not too many people there so I could daydream as I walked.

I'm about to head out for a three-hour drive, and then leave tomorrow on a couple of flights for another few days of travel. Today the rain finally let up, and I got some steps in. So far today, 4.6 miles, and I jogged 3 of those. That's a big event for me! Jogging or running is not usually in my exercise vocabulary, but I was short on time so had to speed things up. Looking forward to relaxing for a few hours (DH will be the driver...I feel so pampered!). We will stop at least twice as we drive, so it will be a good day for LE care.

Last day of a 2 week vacation. Gasped as I looked at my calendar last week. It's going to get crazy for me very soon until after Christmas so I won't be checking in much. Went for a hike on another favorite trail today. Enjoy the cooler weather. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/430399_4608272453250_520486366_n.jpg

Ladies, You inspire me !!!!! but I am still resting.... I find if I get active that little hole in my scar starts leaking - I think it is when the breast is swelling from the LE it starts leaking... What a connundrum... Exercise (I'm talking mild walking) is supposed to help not hurt!!!

Wow, Dawne--beautiful! Very Tolkien-esque!
You've inspired me, BTW. We haven't read Tolkein in several years, so we're planning to start it again this week (evening out-loud reading--so many "voices" in that book it's great fun to read aloud, and every chapter leaves us hanging!)
Hey! That's part of kicking LE butt too--finding our way back to those things that feed our spirits!
We'll miss you, Dawne--keep on runnin'!
