    Becky

I am intrigued, but I must say I pretty much do only indoor walking. Sure wish there was a similar device / pc of exercise equipment that functioned in a  simiar manner .  Seems like some therapist could design something if it is that helpful.

    thx for the info

Purple, I teach seminars and the locations can be literally anywhere, so fequent flying is a must, unfortunately. Even without LE, it is not a pleasant experience. Wish I could retire!

Carol - I don't fly around for a living, and I still wish I could retire!!!  Cool

Flexitouch last night, MLD, 2 mile run, Lebeds this morning.  Met with the fitter yesterday to get fitted for a Solaris vest/sleeve combo.  I already have a Tribute sleeve and love what it does for me - it's really effective on getting down any pesky arm swelling I might have if I overdo it.  The fitter suggested that I get a new sleeve to go with the new vest - I've already maxed out on my out-of-pocket this year for medical equipment, it will all be covered by insurance if we get this done before the end of the year.  The new sleeve will have snaps to attach it to the vest, so I can wear them separately or together.

Anyone else using a Tribute vest?  My LE therapist and the fitter both think that it will help my truncal LE, especially since I've had such good luck with the Tribute sleeve.

Hugz - Thanks Hugz. I was looking at these. Smile You ladies who have multiple local stores to shop around in are lucky.  Lots of choice and the chance to get some exercise while shopping. We have a Scheels that might be a possibility, but they don't carry the exerstriders so it's probably going to have to be mail order.  But I'm going to Scheels to look theirs over.

That's it. Made an appointment for a personal trainer tomorrow. I'm managing my LE pretty darn good but gotta get my muscle tone back after all the blah..blah...blah the last year and half.

The trainer says she knows about LE, says all trainers should know Smile. Sure did say all the right things about starting with light weights on upper extremities...yada...yada.

Told her I don't want to run a marathon I just want to walk with less (or no) knee pain and get more upper body strength. Guess this is why we have winter - to do the things we can't find time for in the summer.

Hey, good luck with the trainer.  The trainer I used after ending treatment, I thought it got it and when I said can not do, he found other things

course my lovely trainer took a new job and not doing freelance so working on my own

Hoping I like the trainer. She owns the place so won't be leaving, it's local so a quick trip. Hope it's as good as it sounds.

NatsFan, I have a Tribute vest and LOVE it! It has really helped keep my truncal LE in check vs the tank with inserts I used to wear. More comfortable and even compression all around the trunk. I got the longer length that goes to the inguinals and if feels great. Worried it would feel unlevel where it ends when lying on back or side but I don't notice at all. Oh, and much easier to put on instead of fighting with tank and inserts. Check out my avatar! :-)

Ohio--Good luck with your trainer!  That is one thing I don't have near me.  I thought of you and Mary (and Tina and Carol) when I was at the conference in Atlanta a few weeks ago.  We did have a good time meeting each other.  You are amazing trying to get those knees in shape.  Hope the sisters are doing okay.

MLD and MLD exercises over for the day.  Now facing the elliptical for awhile before I go to Clemson Homecoming.  Will be watching my 4 yr old god granddaughter  tomorrow as parents go to football game.  Found a Children's Museum for us to go to so probably no cardio tomorrow except for chasing after her.  I am taking weights to do in am before we head out.

    Becky

Do you have  a YCA near you ?
They have free personal trainers ( 6 or 8 weeks) through their LIVESTRONG program for all BC survivors.

Not sure how much they know about LE ... just a thought.

Purple--I do not but my therapist set me up on a program that I am doing well with.  I trust her with her knowledge of LE not to push me too far too quickly.

Ohio, great decision to get some help from a personal trainer, and it is almost amazing that she knows about LE issues. Developing leg muscles should really help your knees.

I wonder if the walking poles would help as well, taking some of the upper torso weight off the knees as you walk? I am very tempted to try the poles myself. I do wonder however how easy it is to walk with two poles and hang on to a leash that's attached to a very energetic dog (and not well trained...my bad!)

The past several days, I have managed at least 4 miles of walking daily, but today probably not (spending the day indoors with friends, who asked me to teach them some artisan bread baking skills, so fun, if not active!). I have yet to resume post surgical weight lifting, but will do so on Monday with my amazing trainer. I will be reducing the weight extensively for arms and upper body...what a frustrating 'price' of LE!

hmmm, I have old ski poles in my basement from my younger days...would they be ok to use for walking?

I have some balance issues and have thought recently with snow~~~that I need to support help to prevent falling

Whew, cross country skiing attached to a dog requires lots more balance than I ever had!

The skis aren't absolutly required, and I think I'd do better without them as my dog is a bit of a dawdler, but if you have a fast dog... Smile  My friends son does skijourning with his huskey, but they usually skateboard. I don't know how they are both still alive, but they seem to enjoy it.

But anyway, I'm thinking the belt/harness deal that they use would be ideal for hands free walking, the leashes are gathered and designed to be shock absorbing.  Like this

Becky, Now the LOL is on me because when I saw Cindyls picture skijourning I thought "what the heck is she doing"Surprised I had to google it and found out there is such a thing as this sport. I guess we don't get enough snow on the w. coast to try this as I have never heard of it.

So here we have learned this week that you can skijourn andyou can actually pole walk on a treadmill. Hum... mom was right, you can learn something new everyday!Laughing

Speaking of poling on a treadmill. If I did it, I wouldn't put the straps on my wrists. You could slip and get caught up in the treadmill instead of rolling off. Mine are strapless anyway. Some people say that the strapped are better for LE as you let go completely of the pole and then grab.  With my strapless, I pump away the hand and the pole doesn't leave my hand. They are erogronimaticly fitted to a handshape to stay with the hand when you walk.

Cindyl, I couldn't view which poles you are looking at when I brought up your link.  What brand are they.

I pole walked today and thought of Ohio's knees. It is definately easier on the knees and my hip liked it better than walking. Must be that the poles take a bit of the weight off. I'll tell you, I sure was breathing harder. They make you walk faster.

Carol, Take it easy with the bread kneading. That is indeed a vigorous exercise. My 88 yr old mom still makes bread this way. She says it takes her frustrations out! Therapy!

Tina, Could you tell us how to make a "makeshift vest" if we can't afford the real thing. My swell spot wants to slip around a bit in my shaper?

Where's Nordy?  NORDY, OH NORDY!  WHERE ARE YOU?????? I MISS YOU. YOU LITTLE ENERGIZER BATTERY!Cool

Saw the personal trainer and am very pleased. She made many accurate comments about LE and was very considerate of my arm as we progressed. Right now I'm working mostly cardio and lower extremity strengthening. Wow it felt good. I'm going back twice a week for group sessions which means the trainer will be there but overseeing several people. Fine with me - more affordable and more socializing.

So today, I'm glad to report cardio, some weights, Lebed and MLD - not wonder I'm whooped. Gonna sleep good tonight.

    25 mins powerwalk.

No MLD as I  was doing  faithfully, and I now believe I also have LE in my 'good arm" - very concerned about routing extra fluid there. Just wore my Isotoner gloves when walking and will see a new therapist AND get my sleeve and glove (s??) this TUES.

Wish I could do more.  Concerned about making things worse though .  I was told it was not in the right arm and so  naturally, I used that arm for lifting etc .. and I now wonder if those were triggers that could have been avoided. Dont want to re-route to the groin when I dont know WTH I am doing! Wink

Lost a bit over 2 lbs this week ( on WW) total over 8 lbs in the last 4 week which amazes with this this swelling.

So, I am doing what I can - for now.

    Keep on truckin' ladies !

Purple, that happened to me too. LE therapist split me body in half and moved fluid from the middle to each side, then down to the inguinals. Worked great but took a while to clear the fluid.

It has been a bit since I checked in, but sounds like everyone has been up to a lot. Proud, I am so sorry you were so effected by sandy. I couldn't believe the pictures I have seen from it. I have a cousin who bought a house in Sea Isle City one month ago. They were so concerned. It was several days before they could get in to see how the house fared. Luckily, they only had to clean up. Lots of their neighbors were not as lucky.

I have been keeping up with the program, alternating cardio and weights. Not seeing any progress though, but did 3 miles on the elyptical today in 35 minutes. Keep on trucking.

I'm hurting tonight.  Big time temperature change coming.  Yes, I'm a walking barometer.  Undecided  I know you guys know.

Had a GREAT workout yesterday.  I'm sore today.  Cool  I will do MLD tonight as well as some stretching.  I've had to go back to drinking Perrier water to get all my water consumption in ... but whatever it takes, I guess.

    Thanks GMA
Is  yours now gone from " the good side "  OR ?

I  can just see it moving from my groin to legs. Oh yes, I am sounding very pessimistic but really , I am still stunned over this.  I'm sorry. Two darn nodes, no rads at all.

My husband had 24 nodes out < 1 was cancer > and is just fine. We were talking this AM about how neither of us got ANY " LE instructions" We went on a  4 hr flight after he had the 24 nodes out. Thank goodness he had no issues. I wore compression ( due to my low BP and circulation) but nobody ever thought to advise him to !  Shame on MGH.

    But, he is fine.

Darn crap shoot, I tell ya!
