purple - you're correct that we need to be careful with the resistance bands.

I too have been 'pretending' ... I haven't worn my gloves and sleeves much this week either.  The cooler weather is amazing.

Carol - Of all the reconstructive surgeries ... the fipples was the grossest but also the most gratifying. Sounds like I need to have done what you've had done ... mine aren't exactly symmetrical either.  Undecided  I should have bought stock in gauze pads with how many I used after that procedure!  I was really worried when I got mine ... it was my first surgery after being diagnosed with LE ... it wasn't a problem at all.  Glad you're doing so well.  Hope you heal quickly!

Somehow I missed these last posts. I am glad to see you have been recovering well, Carol.

Since the time I posted earlier and now, I am feeling the effects of the coming storm. Not a happy camper!

Tina337 - We had a 30 degree drop a couple of days ago and it HURTS!  That's the only time my LE really, really hurts.  Praying for you and all those affected by the storm!  Love to you.

Seems like the whole country has some kind of weather event that will aggravate our LE.  We've been told to expect high wind and a temp drop, along with 25-foot waves in Lake Michigan.  That's a very rare event, waves that high!  I hope all of you are finding ways to cope, both with LE and simply to ensure the safety of yourselves and loved ones.

Hugz, were you affected by the earthquake in BC?

Carol, Glad to hear you made it through your surgery ordeal. It will be nice to get back to normal soon. Just watch your bouncing around.

I was not affected by the earthquake at all. We are too south.  Fortunately we have earthquake drills here about once a year and I am on board with it and I have an earthquake (provisions) garbage bin on wheels so I can grab and go if there is an emergency. That reminds me. I have to refresh the food in it. Maybe add some more LE things into it also.

Not going to exercise today because I am doing major housework and that will finish me off pretty quick! Maybe lebeds at night to drain me after all that housework! Too bad as it is sunny and perfect for walking. Not hot like that dang summer we had.

I wear mine all day, every day, if I don't my arm swells and aches :(. I started with this last October, so have been at it over a year now. I was hoping my left side lymph nodes would pick up the slack and take over for my right side, but no signs of that happening. :(

Have been doing either an hour of aerobic or half an hour of aerobic and then 30 minutes of the circuit at the gym all week. Still no progress on getting any faster though.

Lots of trees and creeks near my house. Our area is going to be a mess. Schools have already closed for Monday and Tuesday. DH works at the hospital and will get into work tomorrow, but may not be able to get home. Bracing for a dark lonely couple of days.

Kay G - Prayers for you!

A week is not long at all!  You'll get faster. Give it some time.

Thx for your reply Kay.  I appreciate it.

Hang in .... it may get better yet.

As for the conditioning, I know that takes some time.  One day at a time on the gym thing- you WILL progress!

I guess without electricity and things closed the next couple of days, I will be jogging around the house and lifting weights to entertain myself!

Kay, give yourself more time, and you'll be seeing progress.

Tonight I carved a pumpkin after my husband scooped out the inside. It was fun to participate, as the last couple of years I just hung out and watched my friends. I don't seem to feel any worse for wear.

    Hey gang,

I am utterly exhausted from working long hours. I didn't do my workout today, or yesterday. I even bagged on my beloved MLD a couple of nights. Question is, how long can I put off my workouts with weights without starting all over with one pounders? A la PAL study guidelines.

I really don't want to start all over. Can I just drop the weight? Right now I have an ez curl bar, 10 pounds, going to do some presses with it.

nibbana, the PAL guidelines say that if you take a break from lifting for a week or more, back off on the weight. For each week off, back off by two weeks of resistance progression.  The guidelines say if you stop for a month or more, return to 1-3 lbs weights and start rebuilding again.

Sounds like if you can get back to it in the next week or so, you can back up a bit without starting over.  It's so frustrating, isn't it?  I'm currently in back-off mode, after extended work travel and then a bit of surgery,  and it just makes me want to howl!

    Good luck--stay positive!

    Carol

Nibbana - Quoted directly from my most recent PAL handout, as I am participating in the latest PAL study:

"If you have to take a break from doing your weight-lifting exercises for a week or more, back off on the heaviness of the weight used when you return. For each week off, back off by 2 weeks worth of resistance progression. For example, if you were doing your bicep curls with 5 lbs 2 weeks before you went on vacation for a week, then 10 lbs the week before vacation, you need to go back to using 5 lbs when you return. If you stop exercising for a month or more, start at the lightest possible weight again and gradually increase as you did when first learning."

I am as hunkered down as I can be! never went out this morning, even to bad to get my morning caffeine fix!  now that is bad so hoping Tues morn brings a respite

I am in Central NJ about 15 miles from the coast.  If I get creeped out I will evacuate to my neighbors, he promises plenty of wine.  Anyone have a scarey spook to scare away Sandy?

We're hunkered here in DC as well - still have power but the wind is really picking up now.  Work was cancelled for today so we've been home all day, snuggled safe inside.  We've laid in food and water, and should be able to hold out if and when the power goes off.  I'm indulging in something I never have time to do - I'm actually reading a book!!   Funny how I squeeze in MLD and Lebeds during a normal busy workday, but today with all the time in the world I've done neither.  There's still time, though - and I can do those in the dark!   Cool

Proud - the wine idea sounds like a great way to ride out the storm.

Good idea on the ghost stories for Halloween!  I'll tell you mine. We had an old Southen magnolia tree on our property, and one day we came home from work and it had cracked at the base and fallen over.  There was no wind or storm that day or anything else that could have caused it to fall - it just did.  That night, I awoke from sleep and an elegant woman dressed in a beautiful 1930's style dress was standing next to me, bathed in moonlight.  For some reason I knew that she was somehow associated with the now-fallen tree.  She leaned over as if there was something that she wanted to tell me, but could not bridge the distance between us.  Then I became fully awake.  The moonlight was still there as if it were still shining on the woman, but she had melted away or somewhow become part of the moonlight, and I couldn't see her anymore.  I never believed in ghosts before and still am not sure that I do now but if it was a dream, it was about the most vivid dream I've ever had.  It was some years ago, yet I can still see every detail of that woman and her beautiful dress in my mind.

OK, who's next with their scary story???

Goodness, proudtospin, I had no idea you are so close to the coast. Please take care and evacuate if necessary, especially if suggested. Do you still have power? I am just southwest of Phila and friends have already reported power off/on. We still have power but wind is definitely picking up. The township next door has declared state of emergency. Not sure if they have specific problem or just want folks to stay inside. Very few cars on road, and I am not leaving the house. I have a feeling in a few hours I will be reading by candlelight and wearing night garments. My arm is not happy at all. I am doing all the stuff that helps, such as deep breathing, drinking water, node stim every so often. MLD later.

NatsFan, glad you are hunkered down. That's one spooky story! I don't have one to offer, but I will contribute pics of the pumpkins my husband and I carved last night. His is the scary one. Mine is just a mandala, although it glows nicely.

Well not a ghost story but... last night I had a dream:

A friend told me she was moving and couldn't take her pet with her.  Would I take him and try to find him a home?

Sure. It wouldn't be the first time I took in someones throw away pet. Or even throw away kid.

She showed up with this huge snaaaake.  (There is no way I would have let her through the door irl, but dreams are like that)

So I've got this snake that is slithering around the house trying to catch my little dogs, and and chasing a cute little siamese kitten that I've never seen before.  My big dogs are trying to catch the snake. I'm trying to convince the snake he should go catch a mouse or something.  I'm carrying the damn thing around like he was cute and furry (and I am not a snake lover at all.  No way I'd do this) and trying to train him to stay off the furnature.

It was so real, that I came out to the living room and made sure the big aquarium he arrived in in the dream was not sitting on the coffee table.

I have NO idea where this came from.  None.

I'm not on the east coast but the winds sure are blowing in NE Ohio! I can't imagine what it's like on the coast and what will come our way. There are flood warnings in surrounding areas but we haven't had enough rain to flood yet. Just wind and drizzling, non-stop rain since yesterday.

Interestingly, Little Martha (LE arm) was not happy when the weather changed during the hot weather - but this storm is blowing strong and Little Martha doesn't seem to care. I guess maybe the barometric pressure didn't change enough to aggravate the LE - does that mean we should now track barometric pressure? Just kidding!

I checked with family in North Carolina, New Jersey and NYC - all are inside and safe. To all the Easterners in Sandy's path - be safe.

"and trying to train him to stay off the furniture."  LOL! Cindy, that was a wild dream.

Ohio, shhhh . . . the winds are not as strong as predicted but they will last overnight and tomorrow. We did hear a tree go down but have no idea where it is. Husband went outside with flashlight to see if it was close to house, but it is not. He started to go up further into the back yard and realized it was stupid to be out there and came back inside. We will see tomorrow what has fallen. It may be in a neighbor's yard, but we all feel for each other because the cost of taking out these giant trees is so expensive. Power still on.

Tina, or other girls with truncal: There is a thread started called "change weather"

a girl has posted, could you read it and maybe give her some help if you can. Our other girls may be busy with the storm and may not be able to respond to her quick enough. I tried to help her but you may know more. Of course don't feel obligated if you are busy with trying to hunker down.

    Tina

    Very nice glow indeed!

We were lucky in our part of the woods. Just a little rain and wind.

Going back to the LE therapist today ( who orig. said I did not have LE but did order a sleeve) as I asked for a new emval as well as complete demo on MLD since I only got the handout last time.

She is a BC survivor. I am going to ask her if she has/wears a sleeve herself. I wonder.

Continued and did 2 ' sansone walks" yesterday. Leg is sore today ...of course my mind goes straight to that ugly place .

I hope all in the NE are safe and sound.  I am sure a lot of our members are without power.  I hope no one got any water damage.

I am in TN so not affected.  We are getting bitter rain today with some high winds but not what others are getting.  I am bummed as I was supposed to get together with my therapist today to get ready for our NLN presentation to our support group next week.  She invited me to hike a mountain with her after we prepared--a 4 mile hike. It is snowing in the mts. so we had to cancel.  We are going to try to do it on Thursday but I was all ready for today.  So it will be either treadmill or elliptical today.  Getting ready to do my MLD and MLD exercises right now.

Hello to all; it seems there's so much going on with weather that we're all challenged to work in some exercise. Rain and wind here today, and so gray I just want to cozy up to a cuppa tea and read all day.  Too bad work won't let me!

I'm not exercising for the moment, to give some more healing time to a pesky incision that's leaking a fair amount of serous fluid after last week's surgery.  (gmafoley...same kind of fluid you're getting!) My PS tells me there are two schools of thought on this:  one-- mild to moderate exercise helps move body fluids and get them through the kidneys and out of here.  two--any elevated heart rate makes the body produce more fluid.  So his advice was to pick one approach and go with it, my choice.  You all know which one I picked--exercise--and so I did some moderately paced walking on Sunday, just about 2 miles.  Well...fluid seepage increased that night and has not abated much, so pooh....I'm now embracing school of thought #2!  I'll give it a few days before I do any heartrate-raising walking, although I do plan to do some very, very slow walking today to see what happens. Gmafoley, I'll keep you posted on all this stop-leak experimenting!

Carol - thanks but after 2 months of this - rest is the best - any arm movement at all starts the leak  - sorry to put poo poo on your poo poo - just saying... But keep me advised of anything that works - I'm always up for new adventures of the leak monster Laughing
