Ok just a Lebed newbie question - wore my sleeves and gloves (only have the isotoner ones though).. just did 10 minutes of the opening...and I thought, I was very gentle with myself and stopped when I felt tired... everything feels very warm... was I not supposed to start this until my asthma/bronchitis is better? fingers actually burn...

Did my Lebeds at my desk. Went outside to walk but chickened out. So cold! Did my tai chi breather.

Gma, I wonder if the tai chi breather would hurt your arm. It is so gentle. Try it once the pain subsides.

gma, surely this signals 'time out' until your breathing is stronger.

Today I worked my activity in a few bursts. Did 1.5 miles of jogging on a treadmill, then found a few times to break into a jog for a few minutes during the day.  Did an hour of weights in the gym.  Ended my day 2,000 steps short of goal, so I just jogged around my house to get those in.  Ended up with 10,027 steps before calling it quits. Too tired for Lebed tonight!

It should please you to know that my LE'ist  was showing me  a breathing move that made me want to  say "  Hey,that's the tai chi breather !"  Also for those with access to pools, she strongly suggests any gentle water  exercise.

    I Pm'd you.

Hugz--You are in Oregon right?  What beach are you walking on?  I went to a wedding at Cannon Beach a few years ago.  Beautiful spot.

I did an hour on treadmill yesterday plus weights.  Today I am going to tackle the elliptical.  We are having some snowflakes and high winds today so no outdoor activity.

35 minute treadmill run last night, MLD and 30 minutes elliptical this morning.  No Lebeds yet - gotta do them as we went out for Mexican last night, and yes, I got the salt around the rim for my margarita!  Paying for that little indulgence this morning with ab bloat! Cry

Started my day with a 3 mile jog, then headed out with DH for a 5 hour drive to family, for the weekend and the holiday. Weather turned it into a 7 hr drive, but we stopped a few times and I got some mini walks in. Total 4.7 miles. Then: too much dinner with lifelong friends! But I am not sorry!

Purple, great your LEist is showing you tai chi breather, I wonder if it is the same one because it was in a study and published as successful. Maybe she can tell us the name of it if it is the same.

Becky, No I am not at Cannon beach but it is about 7 hours away and I have spent numerous days camping on the coast there. Stunning isn't it. I believe GMA is in Roseburg, Oregon and she is probably closer. I am in the most southwest city in Canada about a 2 minute drive to good ole USA. I visit many beaches there walking. I walk at my hometown beach, the boardwalk is about 1 hour fast walk. it is pretty too and I see the USA from my boardwalk. I did my beach walk after work and it was spectacular, with tide out and sun glistening on the sand and water.

You girls go for it and move, You are all so encouraging to me!

We all have to move to counteract all the (over)indulgences coming up for holidays!

I have just finished MLD, MLD exercises, and a half hour on elliptical and am off to Dollywood with my sister to watch all of the Christmas shows.  So a lot of sitting the rest of the day.

No hugz...it is diaphraghmatic breathing. I learned it many yrs ago when first DX with lung disease. Nobody has the market corned on this. (and it's free !  :>)  It's just an added twist with a bit of a ' tai chi opening'.  My LE'ist  specified there have been  no proven studies on these types of exercises (though she believes in them).   The proof is in the pudding. I like the name tai chi breather. I say we stick with that !

These are precisely the kind of exercises that could go in our very own exercise DVD ( and who are ??? , see the GRRRR thread).
The proof is in the pudding!

Got my Juzo custom one piece sleeve with glove, it's wonderful.  I wore for about 6 hours after I got it yesterday, and the swelling in my hand and harm was down by the time I took it off, quite a bit too.  Calling them today to order more before the end of the year.  I was worried about the a one piece with glove thing, but did a bunch of cooking with a plastic glove over and it was just fine!!!  All I have to do is remember to put a protective glove on when I do things.  Happy, happy, happy!

I'm happy for you too Linda.

We got a pile of snow yesterday and my exercise was pushing it off the decks.  I thought I'd be paying for it today but guess what?  (Touch wood) No problemo.  It felt so good to do it!  REALLY good.

That is great news! Maybe we should add snow shoveling as an elite event in our Olymphics.  I say elite, because we would want to make sure that anyone in the competition had built up some strength following safe-weight-lifting guidelines, before trying to push snow under competitive pressure!

Put a pedometer on for work yesterday and walked 5 miles  Surprised today, I been cooking some stuff up before we leave for the DD's home and did last minute shopping - 5 miles again...

The asthma has been bad but I'm still alive and moving... Oh and more good news - My 3rd CPAP mask works! I actually slept 11 hours yesterday... but didn't have enough distilled water (ran out) and the humidifier went dry - ooops - think that is why the asthma flared today.. I will make sure it is full tonight.

Fingers are doing weird things - turn red, hot and swell - think I'm going to have to start wearing gloves and not just gauntlet... don't have glove except the isotoners.

Have a Merry Christmas! I probably will have to catch up on Thursday next week.. Love you ladies!!! Praying for no LE problems for any of us this holiday!

So my exercise has been basically non existant.  We had to transfer Mom to a hospital 6 hours from home to have her pressure sore treated.  I've been sitting around the hospital, taking care of her and waiting to see the doctor & surgeon.  Hate to even leave her room  because you know that's when the doctor will show up.

gma, great report on the walking!

Cindyl, I'm so sorry that you and your mom and family have this added challenge to deal with this week.  Staying put to try to catch the doctor is just what you should be doing. Exercise can re-enter your routine when it's feasible. Best wishes for the best possible results from your mom's treatment.

I spent the day with family, somewhat busy, and on an icy, slushy day, so very little outdoor walking.  Very little of any kind of exercise, except, ummm....fork to mouth!  Tomorrow I'm going to have to get creative about getting in some kind of real exercise.

WOW, Gma . You are on a roll!
Until you can get some RX gloves, you might want to look into IMAK arthritis gloves. They work very well for me as my fitter still has not ordered mine  since the last one fit like a vice !  I have 2 pr of IMAK and handwash them every other day. I believe I got them on amazon.

Even IF the isotoners were going to be ok for you, perhaps what little ' oooomph' they had is now gone.  IF they worked at first , you might just need a fresh new pair. The light ' compression' in the OTC gloves does not last long.  I am very pleased with IMAK which I have been wearing a few mos. now.       knock on wood. *edited to correct to IMAK (NOT IMaxx)

I cant wait until Lymphedivas comes out with  a glove - possibly this summer.

    Cindyl

So sorry to hear about your troubles at this time of yr.  Seems like  a  watched pot never boils!  Pls let uis know when you have news.

As for myself....I feel my BP keeps getting lower ( highly symptomatic here) and just going to the grocery store wears me out so no exercise at all for the past few days.  I'll try to catch up after Christmas !  Think I have bene on my feet waaay too much for the othostatic intolerance.

OH, and for anyone who has not seen the Grrrrr thread from 2 days ago pls take a peek as we are trying to get ideas ( PM me ) for a *possible* exercise DVD. ( see that thread for more info).  It's a little iroinic now that I look at the  'lead post" in this exercise threadSurprised  It seems many of us agree that it's time for more options for a DVD for LE ladies and we would like to think we have something <new> to offer.

At this point, we believe the setting would be someplace in Massachusetts. Everyone can participate virtually. ( PM me those exercise ideas !)

Keep on truckin' ladies ! Wink

    Hi all,

gee woke up with one nasty nasty back ache and almost did not go to the gym to meet with my lovely new "cancer survior" trainer.  But did and warned him, lordie but he knew what to do for me!  Stretches worked and back is now happy!  he has me up to 2 # weights for the lympedema, yah who!  Arm is not achie and we are making progress.

Trainer and I got to talking as I was interested in his career path.  He hopes to set up a program with a local hospital for excercise that could be a part of the full cancer treatment!  Like do I like this guy?   I never knew that there was such a thing as cancer training for trainers.  He says he wants to pick my brain a bit which is fine with me!  He has a hospital in the planning so it may end up a reality.  As in surgery, radiation, chemo, then on to the excercise portion!  Wow

OK, so we are moving and feeling hopeful this week, which is fabulous given all of the various activities and priorities that compete for our time in December.  Purple, 5 miles?  That's amazing!

Proud--I adore my trainer, too!  He is such a big part of what motivates me to keep moving, and he is amazingly inventive about finding exercises, weight lifts, and stretches that keep me interested, but still are sound movements for me, considering my LE needs.  If I could give one gift to every BC survivor, it would be a trainer like those we have the good fortune to work with.  My guy hardly charges for his time, because his heart is THAT big for anyone with special needs.

    Nibbana--Woo-Hoo is right!!!!

I'm not moving much again today, with icy roads and sidewalks and tons of family to spend my time with, instead of disappearing for a while for exercise.  Can't say I'm sorry, but I know I'll have to get back on the wagon after the holiday.

Carol, I had a trainer at the gym, loved him till he left for a better job (well he got fired~~)

it has been over 2 years since I have had a trainer that understood me so this is major.  I can not always be in perfect shape (as in a stress related back ache) so it helps to know he has tricks up his sleeve!

Also got a great holiday gift in that my sister sent me a card with her new e mail and address.  She cut off contact with me around the time of my diagnosis so this is a real treat.!  Almost not sure how to respond.

nibbanaSurprised  Wow!  I'm impressed.  I'm not sure I'll ever be able to do something like that again.  Anything I do with my pecs makes me flair.  I often wonder if I hadn't gone the TE/implant reconstruction route if I could do something like that again.  I can't even mop my floor without causing swelling.  Congratulations!

proudtospin - That is great you have a such a knowledgeable, caring trainer.

On a personal note ... this past week has the been worst since the heat of summer for my LE.  I'm not sure the why but the weather has been a variable.  Again 20-30 temp swings every three or four days.  It's 60 today ... highs of 30's/20's by Wednesday.  Frown  It really is wreaking havoc ... I'm in a lot of pain and nothing I seem to do helps.  It makes me angry!  Yell  *Sigh* ... but I'm not going to let it steal Christmas joy ... I haven't had time to do much cardio ... but I'm going to a Christmas party tonight ... and the people who are having it ... live in an absolutely beautiful place ... hills, trees, acres and acres to walk ... I have their permission to go hiking ... so I'm going to show up a couple of hours early and hike the hills while it is in the 60's ... before we get several inches of snow and it's down in the 10's in 48 or so hours.  Tongue Out

Purple, I should read more carefully.  But I'm pretty sure that shopping gets us lots of miles! And some resistance work, too, from the shopping bags!
