Kicking LEs butt!! Exercise & Self Care Log

. What's not to like?!
I love it, Binney!0 -
Today I managed several bursts of exercise, including two of the short videos that Nitocris posted. Also a little time on a treadmill, and some outdoor errand-walking. One advantage of living in a tiny town is that there are lots of errand-ish places located within reasonable walking proximity, so I was able to put my car in town, and then walk to: coffee with friends, the pharmacy, the grocery store, and even to the kennel to pick up Remy the dog, who was bunking in these past few days while DH and I were walking our tushes off in Texas. Oh, and you buy less at the store when you know you'll be carrying it farther than the nearest parking lot! Total miles today 4.2, most of that indoors, plus I drove to the gym and worked out with weights for an hour.
Oh, and when it's cold out (21 deg. F), you walk fast!

Oh, and when it's cold out (21 deg. F), you walk fast!
hahahhahaha...maybe that explains why my walk does not match yours, Carol ! :>) Did the MLD in bed this AM -always a good feeling to get it out of the way, and did 3 mins on the rebounder. I love that sucker, and I swear it is helping my cold feet!
Then I did a 10 min indoor walk and saw the time was slipping by fast so that ended abruptly. After work, I did another 3 min rebounder and 25 min fast walk.
Later, I will do 3 min rebounder ( arm straight up in the air btw) and MLD before bed.
Oh, and I love the 'darth vadar' link. Thank you. I sent it to my work address and plan to tale a 10 min break each day just to do the deep breathing. I always ' plan to' but never do - this will motivate me.
Hoping to get to Qigong after work tomorrow. For some reason, I am fascinated with this lady:

Purple, a word of caution: three minutes may be a long time to keep your arms up unsupported--which could result in more swelling or aching problems. Might be better to put them up for very brief periods and alternate with gentle stretches, or rest them on your head. When they talk about "elevating" our arms they mean with support, so as not to tire the arm and cause our bodies to sense an emergency and send in extra lymph fluid.
There is nothing simple about LE!
If your rebounder has a hand rail (which is a great feature), just holding lightly to that may be enough elevation.
Be well!

Thanks, Binney!
I actually do sometimes instinctively do the ' rest it on the head ' thing. I dont have a bar, but I have the rebounder right next to a pc of furn. I can ' balance ' with. The arm has not ached more, and I did some measuring yesterday and was fine, but now that you mention it , I will definitely be more cautious.thx

7800 steps. About 1000 of them with the yaktrex. They helped. I didn't feel nearly so unsteady, but I think they will help on icy surfaces, or in shallow packed snow. And I am whipped now. How can 10 days off take all the stamina I had built up? Not that I had much... but I'm back where I was last summer... booo.

Wore the tribute vest last night, MLD this morning, plus 45 minutes of weights/core/Lebeds. Still trying to figure out whether these couple of new pounds are LE or holiday pounds, so am having to concentrate on both.
Cindy - the yaktrex sound great for icy surfaces. And I agree - it's amazing how fast you can lose stamnia with just a couple of weeks off. But you should probably get it back pretty quickly. Binney - love the corks routine - we LE'ers are an innovative bunch!

Did Lebed yesterday - 5 minutes and stretching. I wish my house was laid out to do the cork routine but it won't, so will slowly work into sansone. And yes, I'm still here.. Wish I could not click on this site... it might take me a week to take my week break LOL.

Cindy, anybody would be whipped after walking outdoors on snow and ice, yaktrax or not! You got in a lot of steps, and those 1000 on the ice certainly recruited all kinds of muscles you don't normally use for good old walking! I'm thinking extra quadriceps and ham work to stabilize the legs, extra abdominal work to help you keep your balance, and I'll bet you even had your arms and shoulders in unusual positions to help with that balance. Even if these were subtle movements, they were 'extra' and you got some great muscle confusion out of that walk--in addition to wearing yourself out more than usual. What a great idea. I have some yaktrax somewhere...now you've inspired me to find them, because we sure do have some snow and ice here.

MLD - morning and evening yesterday, walked 1/2 hour in the sunshine. Wore my sleeve all day, and my Jovipak sleeve 1/2 the night!

Well OK then. It was windy too... so maybe I did better than I thought. Probably get a few more slick steps today, then the cold is supposed to break and temps are going to be up in the 40s and maybe even 50s. Darn.

Well Ladies, Hip was worse than I thought, Pain management doc said it was Trochanteric bursitis.. Anti-inflammatory injection and rest for me... I feel better tonight.. hopefully this is the last bump in the road... I will take a break and see you next week...

Gma, yikes! Hope the injection really settles things down for you. 'Bout time!
Hugs,
Binney0 -
Boy, hope you are feeling much better soon, gma.
Regarding a post you made a few days about about DX Mammo :
Could you ask your DR for a DIFFUSION WEIGHTED MRI ? It is one of the new tools in more accurate DX and wont squeeze your LE!Feel better!
MLD
Rebounder (thx Binney.I PM'd Lindalou for best use)
2 hr QIGONG Class (AWESOME but wish I had a better back!)
MLD soon to come.0 -
Purple we are in a small town. Don't have that kind of mammo.
0 -
Gma - could you ask for an ultrasound or MRI instead? Actually the MRI was pretty uncomfortable though. I have my mammo at Oregon Imaging in Springfield at RiverBend - they hardly smush you at all, they make sure it doesn't hurt, at least so far.

gma, hopefully the injection + rest gets you healed, at last, so you can have your life back. You have really been through it for months and months.
For me today: 4.8 miles of indoor cardio walking and jogging today, and some Lebed time is ahead before bed.

Hi All,
So cold here. I have been doing 30 min daily of either my elliptical or treadmill plus weights three days a week. Need to step up more time to lose the 20 lbs I have left to lose.
I miss the dam steps!
Gma--Hope you get some relief.

Linda Unfortunately, all my docs are at Mercy and I can't afford an MRI and/or to go anywhere else... no insurance. I'll deal - the last tech I got was nice.. Just hop into my pocket so if she isn't you all can beat her up..

GMA, I am going to really hope for a soft mamo tech! Some are so understanding and hoping for that sort for you this time. Best to yell loud if the squeeze is too much! Too bad you do not have one of Josh's yellow and black sleeves with the warning signs on it to wear!
I recommend a reward after the test...I always reward myself! Unfortunately, mine using includes a late NJ diner breakfast with all the stuff I try to stay away from normally.

Gma - hang in there - you've had such a run of it that you're waaaay overdue for some good stuff to happen!
30 minute treadmill run last night, MLD and 30 minute walk this morning. Still need to do Lebeds . . .
0 -
Proudtospin, I can close my eyes and imagine that sleeve on my boob - ROFL That would be so funny... Thanks for the smile.. I think if I see the one tech that wasn't so nice - I might make a u-turn and walk out... Maybe wear my sleeves in??? you think that would put up a warning sign???
0 -
GMA, if you know that one tech is not so nice, tell Her!
I had a male nurse do a scan or something when I was first diagnosed, he could not find my vein and stuck me 4 times, I ended up with a huge black and blue bruise. I complained to the doc but now, if I ever need that test again and since I do not know his name....no male nurses or only if they get the vein on the first try!

GMA, Hang in there.
Becky 20 lb to go! I admire you. Please change bodies with me. Sorry you can't go on your damm, dam walks. It is to icy or to cold?
I've been good about walking and breathing.

For those who walk in snow and ice, these are the things to have on your feet.
http://www.kahtoola.com/microspikes.php
I use them in summer when the snow is melting from the slopes in the high country. They work very well, and they can fit in your pocket when you don't need them.

Went to work at the fabric store today - between that and grocery shopping after work, I logged 9 miles on my pedometer :-O Oh my, am I going to feel that in the morning!
0 -
Gma, I cannot keep up with you! 6.7 miles today, most of it jogging on a treadmill and doing a very fast cardio DVD.
0 -
10000 steps.

GMA, 9 miles is NOT GOOD for your hip. The drugs are probably killing your symptoms but you do have injuries still so be careful. How is CPAP working out? I so want you to have a decent sleep where you can block out all the garbage going on to you. I would like a good nights sleep too but seeing that I am such a light sleeper I will keep an eye on you instead and be in your back pocket!
Did a 45 min walk(dang forgot my poles) and lebed opening and tai chi br right after I sign out.
Got a 2lb weighted hoola hoop and boy is that fun. My chiro said it loosens up the spine and is great. I did 15 min the other day and boy that is a workout. Cardio plus!
Carol, I thought of you because the hoola hoop is collapsable and would be great for travel. I double D Dare you to do it in the airport though. Come on.... I did my tai chi breather and lebeds at the beach! I think you would get hooked on it.

45 minute walk today!
