Nitocris, thank you for the video - It makes me feel a little more at ease than many of you have had the same issue.. I will just have to take things slow and stretch!

I love a good stretch that helps what aches!  Great and that web site is going on my fav list to check out the other stretches. Thanks for posting it.

I went snowshoeing with x-country ski poles.  (Hmmm, I had the snowshoes on too.  Sounds like I snowshoed on the poles?)  Works well adding upper body motion and less chance of falling when dog steps on back of shoe. :P

May the new year be a good one for everyone.

Thanks for all the 5 year well wishes.  I never wanted to be a member of the BC or LE club, but once I had membership forced on me, I sure found that there were a lot of great people here. I treasure the people I've "met" here on BCO - you've been been a lifeline for me over the last 5 years.  I honestly don't know how I could have done it without the wonderful BCO community.

Oooh - Nitocris - that is a nice stretch - perfect for doing at work while sitting at my desk.  Marple - glad you were using snowshoes - "snow-poling" sounds difficult!  Tongue Out

Hi Marple--Becky here and back.  My nephew was in ICU from Dec. 19-26 then regular ward.  He came home this past weekend.  He has cystic fibrosis and just tanked after emergency kidney stone surgery.  What was supposed to be an outpatient one day procedure ended up longer.  Plus still taking care of my Mom who is still having a lot of pain from shingles.  I was just too busy to get online.

I did keep up with my MLD and MLD exercises daily--but not always cardio and weights.  I did walk a lot around the hospital.  You can even do Lebeds in ICU (without video)!  Just finished an hour on the treadmill and it felt so good.

Just picked up a solaris night vest and sleeve from therapist today.  Excited to see how it helps the truncal aching.  It fit perfectly.

I hope all of you have a great end of the year and here is to a great 2013.  I appreciate all of you so much.  Make "keep on moving" a New Year's Resolution!

    Becky

Thanks for that info.  I appreciate it. Thx for that confirmation as well Carol.  Good to know.

SO FAR, I LOVE my little rebounder btw .  I put my LE arm up and do 3 mins gentle bounce ( as defined on LIVESTRONG)  I am shocked at how undertrained my calf muscles are . I can feel the bloodflow in  my arm and feet, and unless something bizarre happens- hope not- I really cannot imagine that this cannot be anything but good for me.

I plan to do it 2x  a  day.  NOT in place of anything, but as an adjunct.

Five years IS indeed significant!  May you have many many more - both happy and healthy, bit**ch*in or not!

    Beautful pic dreamer !

UPDATE:  Well, I have been exercising daily and doing the rebounder since yesterday.

SO FAR, all of my research keeps pointing me to Qigong as the most promising and safe thing to move lymph fluid.  Today I bought  a tape and followed it.  VERY cool- the first they thing did was to open the terminus !  (They didnt call it that, but that was PRECISELY what they were doing)

I looked around in my area for a QIGONG class so I could go get the real deal.  I called the Grandmaster to see her recommendations for someone with LE.  There was a language barrier, but she understood I had some issue and said : " You come free first time. Test."

I am planning on going next week and hoping the sleeve and glove will tip her off.

    That's it for now !

Purple, never heard of Qiquong, but how great that you will have a real teacher so open to helping you! Best of luck with it and look forward to your comments

got pain in my arm, no swelling (never have had any and my trainer measures the arm weekly), can not figure out the trigger, only doing 1 and 2 pound weights and that only twice a week, balance of my workout is cardio with bunches of lap swimming, hope that is not it

    Strange, proud!
Swimming is right up there with the TOP 3 things that are not ' supposed' to cause swelling.  You did say laps though so perhaps it is too many arm movements (?) I hope you can figure it out soon- dont want any swelling whatever else happens!

    good luck

LE-T did tell me that even when swimming, don't over work or over tire the arm!  She recommended using old sleeves when swimming to increase the compression.

Yes, good point Linda - in all of this exercise research I too have been reading that you should wear an old sleeve when swimming.  Have you done that , proud ?

Proud, one of the issues with swimming is the suit.Undecided The fit has to be right to avoid constricting at the axilla with your forward stroke. Compression sleeves are usually not necessary when you're swimming, and may create problems as they tighten when wet, so if you're going to try using old sleeves do be mindful of that too as a potential issue. Old sleeves can really vary in how stretched out they are, so they can easily become too restrictive in water (especially with motion).

Some strokes are more of a problem than others--you might do some experimenting to see which affect you and in what ways. A lot of this is trial and errorTongue Out, so keeping notes about exercise, diet, and weather might be helpful in tracking down exactly what's causing you grief. Keep us posted!
    Gentle hugs,
    Binney

Wrapping up my walking vacation: did 10.8 miles today and lots of stretches.  Tomorrow it's back to the real world of house duties, work, and no luxury of time to do so much walking.  It was a great way to end the year, though!

So here's the thing - I have a difficult time staying motivated to exercise (a life long issue, nothing new). Now my sister and niece have registered to do the Susan Komen 3-day, 60-mile walk in October. They have already started training for this event. Both are active but niether have attempted such a thing so it a challenge for them. I cried when I read my sister's post about why she is walking. Of course she said with all I had been through the least she could do was walk!

So look out 2013 - I have a goal to lose 60 lbs by my 60th birthday in December. I have a goal to climb steps with little/no pain. I have a goal to spend a day shopping. I have a goal to get back the strength I had before 'all this' and gain even more strength. I have a goal to conquer the side effects of this dang Armosin. I have a goal to control my LE and not let it control me. I have a goal to walk with my sister and niece at least a few miles each of the 3 days. I have a goal to meet them at the finish line.

Been slacking off on everything except MLD - and even that was hit/miss the last two weeks. That was last year. Right now I'm pulling out the Leded video and starting my day/year right. A better me in 2-0-1-3.

Ohio, You can and you will meet your goals!  Think about learning an arsenal of stretches, which really can take the 'ouch' out of coming back into fitness.  You can walk a short period, say five or seven minutes, and then pause to do some stretches.  Then continue, and do more stretches after another twenty or thirty minutes, or when you end your walking, if you're doing a quick walk.  Stretching really helps minimize soreness, and soreness is often what stops us from continuing with the program.  You were working with a trainer a while back, no?  That person can give you the best stretches for walking and whatever else you're doing to meet your strength goal.  Good luck, and I'll look for your reports as you work toward those goals each day.  What a great New Year's commitment!

    morning all,

well for my achie arm, my trainer (not a LE trained person but is trained for cancer therapy), anyway, his suggestion was to try to do long stretches when I am swimming!  Slow but really reach out!  Think it is a combination of some dif things but working for now, would really hate to give up my swimming

Ohio, Sounds like you have a good family support system, that's good news for you as they can carry you thru on the days you need help. So, off you go to conquer, good for you. We are here to help you to!

I'm walking and tai chi, lebeding today!

proud, That long swimming stretching sounds great for LE, please don' t overdo it cause then you just have to back off and start fresh again. :) I have injured myself so much by doing too much exercise to soon. I've learned the hard way.

hugz, I so get it on overdoing it, got to pull myself back as I did get into trouble in the past, so my trainer tells me only to do weights twice a week and not two days in a row....today was a weight day so the pool followed it.  I am feeling better than I have in a long time but actually did less on each of the past days.  Course I did get a couple of snarkie comments from old guys at the gym who said I was doing baby weights......yeap, baby weights it is for me!

Proud. I am happy to hear that you are giving us a glowing report and feeling oh so good. I walked the beach today and it was so sunny. Borrowed friends golden doodle, of course if I was younger this dog would make such a great guy magnet. Everyone wanted to stop and talk about her. A glorious day I may say!

I keep forgetting to report that I'm still running corksInnocentSmile, and its working great for me. (We have two golden doodles, Hugz, and I can testify that going anywhere with them is a conversation-starter. Several people have asked me if they're Afghans--boggles my mind. Afghans are a luxury dog, sleek and dignified, and a doodle is by its very nature big and goofy. Whatever!Laughing) One of our doodles loves to run with me when I'm jogging with the corks. He is an 85 pound of puppy-brained energy and I'm running back and forth down the hallway, which makes this as much a balance exercise as a cardio one. All good, right?!Undecided

Babysat the doodle last night and as I let her down the stairs for her nightly romp she would not proceed down. I wondered why and looked at the steps, They had a light ice on them and there was no way she would take a chance. S M A R T those doods are. She also allows my lame mother to use her as a support when she hobbles up the stairs. My mom grabs her thick hair and goes up one step and the dog waits to go up one step at a time with her. She is being used as a real crutch and loves it. She also just learned how to open a door with her nose and shut it with her paws, she is either 7 or 9 yrs and still learning quickly. Love that dog. She is my fav exercise partner when she is around.

    Hi,

Resuming regular training after weeks of laying low because of back problems.  Working on my middle and lower back with a special program and still wearing my back brace when in pain but things are getting better.

Lots of snow here, icy and slippery.  So, walking is definitely inside.  Here are a few walking videos to kick start your new year.

    -  Jane Fonda's walking cardio workout - Level 1 (26mn)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UabUNrjSE4&list=PL14C2871905272E8D

    -  Jane Fonda's walking cario workout - Level 2 (26mn- a little more challenging)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4YyCdTf9BM

For a more fast-paced and challenging walk:

    -  Leslie Sansone just posted this new 15mn long, video.  "1 Mile Walk Challenge". (quite fast-paced)

    http://www.walkathome.com/1-mile-walk-challenge/

    -  Denise Austin - Fast blasting cardio walking workout/Beginner (15mn - 1 Mile)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbVhEaTzuwA

To finish a great breathing/relaxing video. (10mn).  Love this guy's music and the "Darth Vader's breath" is easy to follow.  Very good pace for deep breathing.

    Have fun

what do you mean by running CORKS ?

Nitocris, love the breathing video (son walks through the room, stops, stares a minute at his mother in terror, says, "Are you all RIGHT?!!") Better than blowing bubbles!

Purple, the explanation is probably lost several pages back--since I seem to destroy pedometers with alarming (and expensive) frequency, I gave up on them. Instead I counted the steps in a loop around my house (70, to be exact), and I keep a bowl of corks at one end of this indoor route so I can drop them into another bowl one by one with each round. I have 70 corks, which adds up to almost 5,000 steps, so if I do it twice it gets me just about to 10,000 and they all end up back in the original container. Keeps me honest. Very primitive pedometer, for people prone to drop, lose, dunk or otherwise destroy modern technology. Corks bounce, float, and even throwing them into the washer doesn't hurt them. If you lose one, you can replace it next time there's an empty wine bottle.Wink What's not to like?!Laughing

    Be well,
    Binney

We went shopping yesterday, Target and Sheeles. So got a few thousand steps in. Got some Yaktrax to try outside after my second slip and fall on the ice... don't need a broken bone. I'll try those out at lunch time when Trooper and I take a walk...

Nitocris, thank you for the exercise posts!  I just did the Denise Austin and the Leslie Sansone.  The Sansone is fast enough that you can jog through all the walking parts if so inclined!  It's always great to have new exercise resources, to help avoid boredom. A friend recently sent me some DVDs and now that I'm back home for a few days, I'm all set to try all kinds of new routines. Variety is so motivating!

Heading out to sunny beach walk for 1 hour, I don' t know why I can't get past the one hour. I just am so happy to get to the finish line but probably could do another mile. The rest of you GIVE ME 10 of whatever, JUST MOVE, breath, fist pump or whatever!!! Come on! Any cork throwers welcome too!
