Alyson so sorry to hear about your loss. It doesn't rain, it pours sometimes.
A fairly uneventful Easter here, spent doing chores. Off to chemo tomorrow then work so it's business as usual.
Everyone seems to have had a super busy weekend. Hope you all get to put your feet up at some stage.
I've eaten far too many hot cross buns over the last few weeks so it's back on the healthy eating wagon for me. I can hardly squeeze into my work pants and don't want to buy new ones.

Shazza & Terre, how on earth do you both manage to work full time.
I worked today & I'm absolutely shattered! & I only work 2 days per week!
I'm seriously wondering how long I can keep it up. I like having something to do, but I feel sick afterwards, I'm so tired....
On a positive note- I got a lovely gift basket today. Doesn't say who it's from, but I have a feeling it was my sister
Have a good short week all

I'm so depressed with how many Easter Eggs I ate, I ate a whole packet of those marshmellow eggs, a smallish chocolate duck and 2 x cadbury creme eggs. No wonder I am getting fat, I can't blame Femara if I keep eating like that. I am about to go on Tamoxifen and seriously worried about my waist. Hope everyone is good xxx

Alyson, very sorry to hear about DH cousin. How awful that is. you try and take things easy and do'nt over do that back. big hugs. xxxxx

KT I don't work full time. Only 30 hours. I'm really struggling with it again. I have always worked after chemo a 6 hour shift but I'm absolutely shattered tonight I'm not sure how much longer I can do it for. I'm a single parent so feel I have to keep on going. Not sure how much the sickness benefit is but less than I earn I'm guessing.
I do as little as possible on the weekends and pay my 17 yo to to the cleaning and some of the cooking. I'm lucky that taxol has been a fairly easy chemo but I still spend a fair bit of time blobbing on the couch.

Sorry to read about your loss Alyson. Life sucks sometimes.
I enjoyed my 4 days off radiotherapy but was back into it yesterday. I am having my first zoladex injection this morning, I had put it off because it's freaking me out. Silly really when I think of all the stuff I have had to do over the last 9 months, but there you go. The radiotherapy nurses are giving it to me.
I really do have to lose some weight. The 9 months of virtually no activity is starting to take it's toll and I am looking decidedly podgy. No one wants to be a one boobed, bald buddha!
Happy Wednesday - thank goodness it's a short week :-)

Good luck with the zoladex inj Kiwi. Did you get some emla cream? I highly recommend it Not too many rads to go now?
Sounds like nearly all of us are feeling a bit podgy. I know my exercise has gone right down, & I'm eating a wee bit more to try & feel better... I'm still tired after work- a quiet day today I think.
Shazza, 30 hours is way more than I do- it's a lot I admire you for doing it on top of weekly chemo & everything. It would be nice if you could drop a few hours & be subsidised by the government or something.... I don't know how benefits work.
I hope your move is going ok Terre. And Alyson, I hope things have calmed down a bit & your m-i-l is settling in- it's been a rough time for you & your family.
Catch you all later

Wow, I've just noticed all my stats etc have been updated to the new wordy version even tho I didn't update them. I have to say, I prefer the old version! Annoying

KT you're right the new version is far to wordy. Mine was ridiculously long. I ended up making my surgeries private so shorten it. Another lovely day here, I really need to get off my arse and get moving. I get tomorrow off so hope the weather holds then work Friday and Saturday .
Hope everyone has a great day.

Ok the Zoladex injection is nothing. That emla is amazing - I didn't feel a thing. Only 11 more radiotherapy appointments to go.

Yay Kiwi. Well done, emla is amazing
Just over 2 weeks to go for rads I guess...

I'm very sorry to read about your cousin Alyson. Condolences and thoughts heading your way.
I hear you all on the weight gain. I've just rejoined Weight Watchers and really need to discipline myself! I can't believe how the weight is piling on. It's coincided with changing from Tamoxifen to Examestane. Now with my ovary removal and full on menopause I'm assuming losing weight will get harder! Oh the joy!
I'm 4 weeks past my ovary removal surgery. I'm doing great and back into most things. I still haven't restarted pilates but am thinking next week I will.
Is anyone having hair loss issues? I'm surprised there's any hair left on my head. The amount it sheds in the shower etc. My hair isn't even half as thick as it was 6 months ago. I'm not sure what's doing it. The meds maybe? I'm 4 years post chemo and my hair was great until the past few months
I hope everyone had a great Easter. My girls are enjoying their school holidays.

Oh joy KiwiMum, I start on Examestane in 2 weeks. Off to rad number 15, only 10 more to go
I've changed my user name because I was getting confused with all these kiwi's out there.

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know I have noticed quite a lot of hair loss and weight gain on Femara/Letrozole. I stopped it taking it 6 weeks ago for a drug holiday and still have hair falling out. I am also quite upset about how much weight I have put on around my tummy area. I think they are going to put me on Tamoxifen in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know what the hair loss is like on this, also weight gain? Rita told me I am only getting 6% benefit from being on these drugs and I am wondering if it's really worth it

I noticed you changed your name Nikki. Yay it will soon be only 9 more to go.
I am sooooo hearing you all on the weight gain. I reckon for me it has been menopause - I was tipped over into it during chemo and the tamoxifen. It's almost like if I don't eat I feel light headed and spacey so I keep eating! I used to do that when I was pregnant too. So I need to get a grip on it. Maybe our group needs to change from 'Kiwi ladies who need encouragement, but all welcome' to 'Kiwi ladies who need to lock their fridge and pantry, but all welcome'.
I'm determined to do better on my diet today.
Kiwi it could be hormones with your hair thinning. Lack of estrogen plays a part with women I'm sure.
Alyson really sorry about your DHs cousin. I did see that accident on the news etc,
Sorry you both are finding working tiring and hard at the moment KT and Shazza. Not long till the weekend again! Maybe look at what the benefit payments could be.
My little kitten - not so little anymore (nearly 6 months) - is in at the vet today getting speyed. Have to pick her up this afternoon. Otherwise not much else planned today except study...and avoiding the kitchen.

Good idea re the thread name,Kruise! I reckon it's all these drugs & menopause (tho as of a couple of months ago I'm premenopausal again!)- but better to be fatter & alive, than skinny & not
I had a slightly easier day at work, phew & don't have to work again till wed next week. Onc appt on Monday - will get results & aredia inf.
I'm glad you're getting back to normal Kiwimum
Well, the weekend starts now for me
Have a good one all

It must be lack of oestrogen. I put on some weight when I went through menopause (10+ horrible years). The weight was starting to shift, hair thinning had stabilised and sleep cycle starting to settlle down when I was diagnosed. No weight gain or other SE first three months of Letrozole but when the SE kicked in, all bets were off :-( This is menopause on steroids! Even when I couldn't eat properly for nearly a month, I still put on weight. I gain 750g-1kg per month, rain or shine. Had a total abdominal hysterectomy/ooph/omentectomy and a large 8cm complex ovarian cyst removed - I weighed more when I came out of hospital! WTF ??? While I could still move freely I went to the gym 2-3 times a week and walked every morning before work. Didn't help. Brain fade is horrible - can't remember how to spell my name some days! Onc just says you're very sensitive to lack of oestrogen. GP basically says "tough luck". I should just change my user name to Michelin woman ...

I'm sitting at work chuckling to myself over the name change suggestions!
I remember pre chemo thinking that the one upside would getting supermodel skinny ... NOT. I managed to put on loads of weight from the steroids. I remember at one point telling Reuben I didn't want the steroids thanks! Just give me the chemo. Of course he didn't and talked me around ... nausea etc etc.
The hair loss is starting to distress me. Last month I had a few inches cut off as it was getting straggly. I think I need more off. I'm waiting for the day I have bald patches.

I'm all for the name change as well. I can't fit my work pants and hate spending money on work clothes. I can't blame the steroids as I did convince Reuben to drop them to a fifth of the standard dose given with Taxol. It has improved my sleep but my hearty appetite has remained the same.
I haven't had a period for the whole 18 months plus I have been on Taxol so I'm possibly menopausal but I think most likely my weight gain is because I can't exercise nearly as much as I used too. I should drop my food in take accordingly but I enjoy food too much.

I really think Menopause has a lot to answer for. As well as all the medicinal crap we are taking. In my case it's because I'm addicted to chocolate. But I don't drink, I gave up smoking, I don't have a partner so no sex, what the bloody hell else is there - chocolate
0 -
Blame the Letrozole/Exemestane! I was extremely stringent about diet - healthy/low carb etc etc. Made absolutely NO difference. Not as stringent as I was, but still well below what I should be consuming most days. If chocolate rocks your boat, go for it - at least you will have happy times ;-)
I don't know if it is just me, but has anyone found they can't have any fruit or green vegetables within two hours (either side) of taking their Letrozole? I have major diarrhoea/gas if I do. Took me a while to figure that one out. Reuben and GP drew a blank - apart from giving me yet more meds.

Hah I love it. Chocolate is the best!
I hear you on the reduced exercise and more food, guilty.
Twofer, I never noticed the diarrhoea effect after veges, but I took my letrozole after dinner.
0 -
I've not had that either Twofer.
Fizzdon - chocolate sounds like a valid substitute to me. I like cheese, wine, chips, nuts, bread ... the list goes on!

Wrote long post last night and it vanished into cyber space.
Love the name ideas I am sure menopause is really the problem and all the rest just make it worse. I am a tubby who tries to lose weight, Did WW but it was so slow and too difficult.
This is my solution:

Or this
I need coffee but have to get up to make one.
