I struggle with water intake after the 3rd AC where I had such a rough time. Since then when I drink water it tastes like chemo to me. I am really struggling to get 6 glasses and I was at 10

LRFTexan,
Totally get the water taste issue. Try keeping a cold container of water and infuse it with lemons and/or limes or whatever you like. I used lemon and ginger.

If you can buy or get your hands on a soda stream, that might help. During taxol, when ordinary water tasted like soap (bleh), I could drink lemon or lime-flavored seltzer.
I agree that staying hydrated makes a huge difference. I'm usually the one beating a path to the bathroom halfway during the infusion, pushing that IV pole. (Done with Taxol but still on herceptin/perjeta.)

I hated drinking water too so to increase my fluid intake (and get protein), I blended nonfat plain greek yogurt with strawberries, a few spoonfuls of granola and about 6 ice cubes. I got protein and the water from the ice and it always tasted good to me.

Your updates on how you all with taxol are so encouraging! I'm starting to think I can do this and still live a fairly good every day life. AC was hard, I got through, but the side effects were one after another and mentally draining.
The cancer center called yesterday and informed me they are adding perjeta to my regimen. Anyone else on txol, herceptin and perjeta? Wondering if the perjeta will change y thing se wise.

Also wondering how all of your immune systems have been on weekly taxol? Do you still have to be really careful? My MO said I shouldn't have to be and that even if I get a cold I should be fine

Perjeta and Herceptin are often given together. For me, the biggest side-effect of Perjeta during the weeks when I had it with Taxol was diarrhea. Since they discontinued the Taxol, I now get Herceptin/Perjeta every three weeks, and I don't seem to have the diarrhea. I found that if I ate carefully for a few days after the infusion, I could control most--but not all--gastric symptoms.

Homeschool-my immune system has been fine on taxol, white counts have been in the normal range on the lower end but still normal. I had a head cold a few weeks agothat went away fairly quickly and didn't stop my treatment. I have been anemic since I started chemo but my MO said that should get better once I'm done.

Had my last chemo today. This ends 6 months of infusions. I am so relieved to have got through it.
Next Thursday I have the port removed and that is the end of my cancer treatment apart from hormone treatment I think next year.
Now to recover from the cure. Fix the heart and get over the side effects. " />
Next Wednesday we are going to the place we have been going to for breakfast and lunches to celebrate with friends for lunch. They have been lovely through this, today I got free breakfast for their contribution.0 -
For those just starting Taxol, I'm 2 weeks PFC (oh how lovely it is to use that term!) and the advice I'm seeing so far, I can certainly agree with. Get your fluids any way you can! I did give up my Coke Zero for water because I felt like the caffeine was working against me. I drank fruit juice until I started having issues with my glucose levels.
LRFTexan, don't worry so much about it affecting your Christmas if you're beginning on the 23rd. My fatigue didn't really begin until about the 6th or 7th week.

for anyone having issues with water, I HATED it with passion while on AC. I ended up getting flavored water, flavored seltzer, juice watered down with selzter, juice really watered down with water, etc. Way too much extra added sugar but it was the only way I could get my fluids in. This water hatred will go away, I promise! I started liking water again about 3/4 of the way in during taxol.

Hi guys-
My Taxol dosage is 169mg...
Just wanted to compare with others, I know one person getting twice that amount! Maybe I wont lose my hair? BAHAHAHAA

Jodes... i had a friend who did Taxol only and she did not lose all of her hair. She cut it short and could wear a ballcap with hair sticking out With her hat on you could not tell she lost hair... but she was mostly bald on top..... so there is hope that you won't lose all of it!

Jodes-I am an odd once since I started with cold caps and had to stop halfway through AC, even though I had 2 rounds of AC without cold caps I did not lose my hair from it. My hair started thinning tremendously after about 6 rounds of Taxol. I still have hair but is very thin. I compare it to an 8 month old baby, very thin and you can see my scalp but my head is still covered in hair. With a hat on and if you didn't know me it is not really noticeable. Maybe you'll be lucky and not lose it all too!

Got my Taxol #2. My taxol is 120mg over 1 hour infusion. They calculate Taxol dosage per BSA (calculated with height in cm and weight in kg).
My NP and chemo Nurse both said they wouldn't be surprise if I keep my hair or just thinning out through 12 rounds taxol. What your thoughts? I'm only getting Taxol. Please let me know!

Tesla, my MO said I would probably loose all my body hair ( including eyelashes and eyebrows) while on weekly Taxol. I'm on #8 out of 12 and still have a little hair left , it's very thin but I didn't loose it all. I guess eve body reacts different. This is how I look now0

Hello new Taxol ladies, I'm now 7 weeks post final Taxol and I'm dropping in to send positive vibes. I got lots of little side effects (like slightly soggy toenails) but no major ones. Most people are fine on weekly taxol, the scary effects are rare and they usually happen to other people :-).
Wishing you all the very best for your journey!

Congrats, Julie!!!

Congrats Julie!! you look amazing!

Jodes - my Taxol will be 80mg2 (squared) based on my weight. From what I've read the weekly goes anywhere from 60-100 mg2. I think the scary part is the unknown of the new chemo. I did well on AC and just pray it continues.

Congrats, Julie! !
Thank you for the encouragement Ms Brompton!
I have no idea what my taxol dose will be. I'll find out on Tuesday. I think you are right, LRFTEXAN, it's the fear of the unknown. Once you know what to expect and how your body reacts, it's less scary. I was crying and shaking during my first AC, and happily chatting and laughing with my nurse during my last.

Day 1 after my #2 Taxol. having diarrhea all day
Took Imodium for anti-diarrhea. any experienced could share some advice?
0 -
tesla,
That was my main SE from taxol too. My MO prescribed prescription strength Imodium capsules, which were very tiny and easy to swallow....also once I basically tripled my dosage of daily probiotics (which I've taken daily for years) it reduced a LOT of the problem. Just make sure you check with your MO before taking any probiotics, vitamins etc. this worked for me and it was all done with my docs permission

I just did #10 of weekly Taxol. I get Herceptine every 3rd week. My MO approved of probiotics. I have not had to take anything for nausea or diarrhea. My main SE's were fatigue and slight headache. I didn't have AC so I can't compare but from what I have been told, Taxol is nothing by comparison. Best wishes to each and every one of you

ladies don't forget to ask for an extra bag of fluids while you are in the chair. They can usually give you one extra bag and it helps with hydration. I lasted a long time with my hair. I went bald at the crown when I did lose. But I cut it short and wore caps. I didn't shave ittil the end. This was me about halfway through.
