Adagio: you give me hope!!! I was so energetic yesterday, day 7, and felt really good until late afternoon when that shit taste in my mouth hit. I also had a hell of time sleeping! Today started out fine but wham, at about 10:30 I got aches....and tired. I hoped to workout at the gym after work but just went home and napped. Maybe tomorrow?

Caitlin: Yes I did run and I really felt great and thought, wow, okay, this Taxol will be easier and then today came. I worked from 7-2 and had all intentions to go to the gym, but couldn't. The 2 hour nap was nice but the metal taste in my mouth is back again....

Yes this is quite the journey and I am ready for it to be done. Best to all!

I am Day 3 from my first dose dense taxol. The day of the treatment and yesterday I felt ok. A little tired but no nausea. Got my nulesta shot yesterday and today I am so sore and tired! Hoping the muscle and bone pain goes away. Any suggestions on how to deal with the pain? How many days do you feel the pain? Hoping it is gone by the weekend.

Imcclure: are you taking vitamin B6 and 12? Take it each day throughout tx. B6 either 100 x2 a day or 200 x1. B12 I take one 2500 chewable. I take 30 grams of l-glutamine powder (10x3) on day of and two days after treatment. Just mix it with juice or water or whatever you like.

When I did DD ACx4 I had to have that shot and it kicked my ass bad. I hurt real bad so I got a pain med to take, which helped. I got the shot on Thursday and Friday and half of Saturday were bad with it slowly going away by Sunday evening. For DD Taxolx4, my MO said I do not need the shot and so far my counts have been very good. I hope I don't need it. If it bad, ask for a pain med. I used vicadin and it helped take the edge off and allowed me to sleep through it.

    Good luck!

IMcclure447 - re the bone pain with Neulasta - I took Claritin 12 hours before taking the neulasta and then every 24hours for 3-4 more days. It helped a lot. In addition, I took 2 extrastrength tylenol combined with 1 extrastrength Advil and it worked like a charm for me. Much gentler on the body than the more powerful drugs. I just took these as needed - some days more than others - but mostly the claritin did a great job.

Ywheels – I drank diet tonic water.  I probably had at least 16 ounces a day with a lime and lots of ice.  There are diet tonic waters that contain quinine.  Read the labels carefully.  I actually didn't know they made it without, but lo and behold the newest bottles I purhased have no quinine.  I'll save them for the day when I can add in gin.  In the meantime, I have some with quinine!

CoolBefore we jump to any conclusions on tonic water, we probably need to see if it helps anyone else and whether it reduces my symptoms after my next treatment!  No one else has tried this or reported having a similar experience. For alll I know, I've gone completely nutters.

Skigirl – I have a freakishly high tolerance for pain, too.  It’s nice to know there is someone else out there!  I swear stubbornness has nothing to do with it!

5thSib – Congratulations on having your last Taxol cocktail in a few days.  My last fling is next Thursday!

I am not taking b6 or b12. What is that supposed to help with? I have been taking Claritin because I took that during AC when I got the nulesta shot. This day has always been my worst day of treatment ( the day after my shot). Usually I can't do anything but today I actually went outside and made dinner. Hoping it subsides by the weekend like it did when I was on AC. Three more treatments to go! Can't wait until it is done! Although then comes the worry of reoccurrence.

B6/B12 and Glutamine powder help with neuropathy. I am just taking the vitamins for now and waiting to see if I have any problems before I start the glutamine.

I'm halfway done with my 12 Taxol. So far my SEs are always the same. I get tx on Friday morning. Tastebuds go late Sunday afternoon and return on Tuesday. Minimal joint pain...no nail issues. This is so much easier for me than AC. I swear that stuff tried to kill me!

I agree with soteria205- taxol is way easier than AC. I get tx on mondays and taste buds go wed/thurs and I am tired thurs fri. my best days are the two days before tx. I've only had 2 tx but I am starting to feel a bit more normal... well MY normal.

Skigirl~~Didn't you also have AC every three weeks instead of dose dense? I think the effects of that hang on for a while.

AC every 3 weeks. I hated AC. It was a huge rollercoaster... now at least its milder SEs and I can function most of the time.

Hi ladies. I am new here and am not sure that I am posting my question in the right place. My sister has stage 3 HER2+ Breast cancer. She completed 4 cycles of AC and is now doing 12 weekly Taxols. Her blood counts were too low for Taxol treatment #2, #3, and # 4 so she missed 3 weeks in a row. My sister and I always assumed that those missed doses would be made up on the back end and push her original completion date by 3 weeks. well now her Dr. said she will not need to make up missed treatments. So instead of 12 weekly Taxols my sister only got 9. Is this ok? To not get or make up missed treatments. my sister does not feel comfortable not getting all 12 doses but her Oncologist says its not a big deal and herceptin is more important anyway. side not she is also er+ PR+ and Her2+. Does anyone else have experience with this? is it standard practice to not make up missed doses? please help.

For pain relief, Claritin and Alleve.  To avoid neuropathy of hands and feet, 100mg. of B-6 three times daily and a B-12 injection once monthly.   Hope these help someone.  These are what I was told to do.  To avoid constipation, one dose of Miralax and one stool softener at bedtime.  Now if I could just regain my ability to like eating cooked veggies once again.

Feel much better on Taxol.  I have completed three infusions along with Herceptin.   I have  swelling of the left ankle and leg, but I think that is caused by the Herceptin.

divap...I would want all 12 treatments too, just so I could be assured I had done all I could to eliminate this beast.

You are more than welcome to post here, ask questions, or share, but the triple positive thread may have a better answer to your question.

Your sister is very blessed to have you.

    Blessings

The tonic water with Quinine was recommended to a friend by a pain management doctor. Diet tonic water does not have it. I can't stand the taste but might try adding lemon.

I am in chair getting my last Taxol. About 30 more minutes and I'm done. I may cry when I get in the car. MO reduced my Taxol by 25% today since I developed neuropophy.

Ywheels -- on days I work all I want to do is hit the couch. Your body just isn't able to do as much as it used to. The nap was what you needed.

Trimmed my nails back last night. The tips are starting to feel tender. So, I'm starting the glutamine. I am going to do 15g a day (I already have 3g in my protein shake). I know it should be 30g but I am trying to get the 'just enough' dose.  And I know I am asking my liver and kidneys to do a lot of work these days... so baby steps. I noticed it was tender to type last night. I can handle tender, just not tingly and/or numb. Everything else is going ok. I feel a bit tired today and my taste buds are gone. I am doing my best and it is better than my best with AC...

    @divap:

Is your sister getting Nupogen shots the day after infusions? My wife usually needs them, but she just finished Taxol #10 today... 2 more to go. So we're glad she gets the shots.

Hi everyone, I just want to tell you that I am 6.5 weeks out from my last weekly taxol and even though I'm going through radiation (and am tired) I feel like my old self.  No more neuropathy, no more pooping when I don't expect it, no more stomach upset!  My hemoglobin is back up to 11 and I have a spring in my step.  I seriously feel great and my hair is growing back all soft and fuzzy.

Hang in there, you will get through this!

Pbrain,  I'm a little more than 7 weeks past last Taxol and that tingling squeezing feeling in shoulders, throad, hips is about gone.  Just had 18 of 33 rads.  No real side effects yet.  Don't have much energy and not very good at making myself do all bookwork I need to do, but am feeling soooo much better.

For those doing Nulasta--I think 5 Nepogen = one Nulasta which is like a time release. The Nepogen is a lot cheaper too.  I think 10 cost about what one Nulasta does.  I looked it up last fall.  Got doctor to give me prescription and hubby did the Nepogen at home. Only needed about 4 during 12 Taxol doses.  Not nearly the joint and bone pain.  Claridin worked well for me.  Someone suggested it on the Nov. thread and there was a clinical trial that seemed to indicate that it worked for most.  Hugs to all.

Oh yes,  Ive lost about 18 lbs since I started treatment.  Not sorry about that.  Mostly because of lack of appetite and bad taste in mouth because of A/C and Taxol.  Appetite is coming back and bad taste is gone, but I think my stomach shrunk.

Cindi, I guess your 18 pounds migrated over to me...LOL. I never lost taste during taxol, and craved carbs. Those pounds just appeared like magic - unfortunately they're not disappearing like magic! I'm glad you're feeling so much better now.

    About NUPAGEN...

It is a daily med which they use when needing to boost immune but not as far up as neulasta.l. They can measure it more specifically then. I had to switch from neulasta to NUPAGEN because I started having serious interactions to my seizure disorder, and since they didn't know if it was from chemo or neulasta, they eliminated all but chemo and went with alternatives.ll including nausea meds,

NUPAGEN was much less painful for body aches for me.ll and I did have one round of neulasta, so I did have something to compare it to.....

It worked bring my counts up, too, and sometimes they could drop it after seven or 8 days instead of the full ten.

It still costs a heck of a lot cuz u have to get 8-10 days worth, which does add up.

But I will take it during taxol if needed cuz I know it's tolerable.

Cindy, glad to hear the neuropathy went away.... Good to keep building those stories!!!

    Have a great day everyone.

    Hey all,

Was wondering if anyone on weekly taxol had their se's get worse as the weeks went by? I just took #2 treatment Wednesday and they told me that they thought the side effects would stay similar to what they were in #1. Well today came home from work because felt nauseated and having more joint and muscle pain. This is worse than last week's se's. Any input would be helpful. Just wondering if today is a fluke or will it get worse with each tx. I also have fibromialgia, osteoarthritis and bursitis in shoulder. Appreciate any info. Hope your all doing okay.

My SEs haven't changed at all since I started Taxol. I got #7 today. On day 3 tastebuds go for about 2 days, some joint pain for a day or so. (Tylenol takes care of most of it) and fatigue. I've never had nausea, but I didn't have it with AC either.

    Blessings
