Checking in to say Hi to all!

Milaandra, I have mild lymphedema, too. I had PT for it 12 years ago. I do not remember how many sections I did, quite many. The girl very carefully massaged my arm upwardly toward the shoulder. It did not help at all. Since my lymphedema is not severe, I just ignore it.

LindaE, Have fun with your friends at lunch today. Have a few laughs and enjoy, laughter can be the best medicine. So glad you are moving on.

Kiwicatmom, great cartoons, and so true!

Deanna, glad you enjoyed the vacation and got to see your friend, you both look great!

Waiting for results of my MRI, hoping it shows something that gives them an idea for helping the pain. I think they should take "before and after" shots since I felt like I did more damage just getting up from that MRI table, it is torture with spine cracking!

Wishing everyone a good and pain free day!

Came across this today and thought it was worth sharing, especially for those who are newly dx'd or are burdened by worrying about old stats...

    Deanna,

Terreposted the same link on 11/15, but I hope that those who haven't seen it will check it out. This may not be the reality of the majority right now, but is inspirational and gives us all hope.

Day one of Rads done! They are targeting 3 areas-

Question: How many treatments before I would notice anything? It will be 2 weeks on Friday, since the rod was put in my hip that goes all the way to my knee and the pain is better since the rod is in. Staples still in though :( Ortho DR said I have no restrictions with my leg. Do what I think I can do, so I can lay in bed and walk to the bathroom. Maybe I am being a baby?

So I had Rod first to stabilize leg, and Rads second. I am still using a walker and weak as ever. I just finished cycle one of Ibrance Besides being tired (and I still sleep poorly) and I cry all the time..

    I hate these emotions.

Heart goes out to all of us, always in my prayers. Hugs.

Hey Carol - good to hear from you! It is very legitimate to be a baby with so much going on at the same time! Very normal to use the walker barely 2 weeks after surgery. You will gain strength one day at a time. The reaction to rads can be very different from one person to the other. Each time I had rads, I was told it may take up to 2-3 weeks to get pain relief and there can also be a temporary pain flare after rads. I've had almost instant relief in some instances and pain flares another time. Make sure you do the exercises they gave you in PT. It will pay off in the long run. Give your body time to heal and be kind to yourself. Sending you healing vibes and hugs. The worse is behind you.

    Carol,

Hugs to you as well, you have been through so much lately, but hopefully things will improve after the radiation. Both times I had radiation to the bones, I didn't get the improvement till afterwards, but not long afterwards I was significantly better from it. Hope that you have great results and improvement. I think you are amazingly strong after all you've been through, hang in there!

Carol, wish I could dry those tears. I'm. 9 wks. out from the same surgery. It slowly gets better. I had rads first which they think contributed to the fracture. I started doing physical therapy in the hospital. Do they have you up and walking? I haven't used a crutch or cane in weeks. But I tire easily on the leg. The incision points really hurt.

    Sending love,

    Rachel

Linda Chelle Rachel and Holly- thanks for words of encouragement. They have not mentioned PT for me. I think the plan is that rads to femur will take away the pain. I going to try and see if I can do more today. I'm 63 and feel 163. I only have 2 more infusions for UTI and staples come out Monday. Don't laugh I'm scared that's going to hurt!! All this pain and I am worried about staples pinching. I blessed to have lots of help. DH though, by bedtime is tired too. Thanks, hope everyone is doing well. Hugs.

Carol, I confess I was scared of staples but did not feel a thing. I forgot about your UTI on top of the rest - no wonder you're tired and crying. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks for your concern. momallthetime. But the next day. hip pain was gone. I guess it was a tumor flare?

Hi to all not much time to post, as I am dealing with 36 hours with no power hopefully on by tomorrow as it is getting cold. Most of our community lost power in a wind storm and the linemen and women are doing a fantastic job getting power restored.

Rachel, a tumor flare, as I understand it, is something that can happen when a med starts working, usually depriving bc cells of something they need to survive and grow. They react to the change by becoming more active for a short time, trying to adjust and survive. I think most of us here have experienced it and/or had our oncs use the term to explain pain that usually goes away as quickly as it showed up, but can be very worrisome while it's happening.

Hi Patty! And everyone else! It's been a full on day for me; still trying to finish a report at 10 pm. However, that's because I took a break today and picked up the keys to our new (to us) house! And went to visit the chickens.

Great to hear from you Patty!

I'm reading, but not posting and will be pretty much busy moving for the next few days.

    Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend.

    Hi Ladies,

It has been a busy couple of days since it checked in. I stopped after 10 radiation treatments to lower back and tailbone because of vomiting and diarrhea. I believe I've been given about everything they had for nausea, liquid aloe help ed the most. My zometia is tomorrow so I'm planning a lazy weekend. The pain in my back is a lot better so I'm not going to fuss to much about side effects. Prayers for all. Marilyn

Marilyn, Sorry about the vomiting and diarrhea side effects. Good to hear you may be doing a bit better. Don't forget to drink water if you can before Zometa, but I know that is difficult if you are nauseated etc. Hope you can recoup this weekend.

Terre, Exciting for you as you start to move. Send us pictures when you are settled. I still think you need to send me a cat!

Mary, Do you have power yet? It's amazing how fast a house can cool down without heat.

Carol, Thinking of you and sending lots of speedy recovery thoughts to you.

Wishing all a good Friday and weekend.

Linda Lou and Terre and everyone wishing you a great weekend. Marilyn- I feel something with nausea too but my rads are ribs and hip areas. They said that wouldn't do that but something is making me feel off. Maybe the infusion for uti has run its course too. Last one tomorrow. I barely could get down my toast this am. I thought I would feel so much better week off of Ibrance but this is not the case fore. I feel worse.

terre - how exciting! You picked up the keys to the new house. Do you have help to move. Hopefully some young muscular shirtless guys to help.

I am off to another great day. Feeling wonderful. Today is the last day of school for my boys for 9 days. After school we are going Jean shopping for the oldest, sock shopping for the youngest, go to the library for some books to read while they're out of school, and end with a celebratory ice cream to kick off their holiday week. I'm so excited to get to spend all day for 9 days with the boys. However ask me again midweek I'll probably be ready for them to get back to school and for me to get my naps back. Lol.

Hugs all around. Hope for a pain-free happy weekend for all.

    Good morning to all,

Patty it makes me so happy to hear you say you're feeling wonderful! Enjoy the 9 days with the boys, I'm sure you'll have a great time but remember to rest when you're feeling tired.

Terre, yay you've got the keys! I'm so excited for you and dh to be in your own house. Don't overdo it, you've got lots of time to settle in.

Mary, hope your power is back on today,. We had a 4 day power outage one time in the dead of winter and it was not fun.

Carol, feel better soon. Sending hugs and healing energy your way.

Marilyn, so sorry about the nausea but glad the rads have helped with the pain. Enjoy a nice lazy weekend and feel better soon.

Wishing everyone a pain free weekend. Hugs, Annie

Update: haven't posted for a while sorry only excuse laziness but been reading and sharing in your experiences. Well I'm going home this morning! Finally after a long confusing week! I've got a bacteria called VRE which is an antibiotic resistant bacteria but luckily it's dormant so no infection but can still be transmitted so must be extra careful with hygiene . Probably picked it up at the nursing place I was for two weeks after the first surgery. The wound To the hip is healing but still have a drain on it. Doing well in PT and case worker is supposed to have set up home care. I'm happy to go home I'm tired of institution food. Thank you all for being here to keep me sane through this

Hope you ladies are doing well. It's been particularly hard the past few days and sharing the news with some close friends. Everyone is so supportive and I am trying to be hopeful that you CAN live many (as in more than 10, I hope) years with bone mets and that it can be contained fully in the bones. I can imagine that hip/spine bone mets are very painful and am sad that my mom, a nurse, needs to be on her feet a lot. I pray that if she needs to take a leave from work that the STD/LTD coverage can still cover any treatment meds she will need. I am also selfish and hope she wil be there when and if I get married and if I decide to have kids.

Of course, it is waiting game of when she finally breaks the news to me. I'll be supportive / encouraging but should I let on that I already knew when she tells me?
