I breast fed two kids and have no family history (Mom, sister, grandmother all clear). So I stupidly thought my chances were low.

Happy Thanksgiving to All who will celebrate tomorrow!!

Happy Thanksgiving! Headed to my local onc's office shortly for my Faslodex shots, then off to a sister-in-law's home for Thanksgiving. In spite of mbc, we all have so much to be thankful for, don't you think? And the friendships and amazing support we have here are certainly on my list! Take care and be safe everyone. Deanna

Happy Thankksgiving to all! Eat too much and don't even think about calories, cancer or counts. Enjoy this holiday to its fullest and give thanks for it all. Love and peace. Myra. 🦃🦃🦃

I also heard that breastfeeding would reduce the risk of getting breast cancer. I breastfed 5 children, each for a year. I guess the biggest risk factor is being female - not much we can do about that one.

There are many factors, such as breast feeding and not being overweight, which are thought to lower ones risk of developing bc. But, lowering risk is a far cry from preventing and family history, as we currently understand genetic links, is a factor for only a minority of bc patients.
I breastfed both of my children, am not overweight and had genetic testing due to ethnicity and a paternal grandmother with MBC. I have none of the known genetic mutations.
My point is, that on paper, you may be low risk but that's not no risk.
Ellelou, your thinking was not stupid! It's just that you, like so many of us, developed bc despite the fact that we had some odds lowering factors. Lowering the odds is not prevention.
Wendy, we are not a good population to ask about breastfeeding since we all have developed bc ☹️ .
Off to start cooking. Happy Thanksgiving to all 🦃.0 -
hi all. Just popping in with an update. I had three CyberKnife treatments to the large met on my c7 spine. I guess it the treatment caused some inflammation around the nerve and I've had nerve pain for the last week. Doc put me on a steroid and I'm waiting it out. In the meantime, follow up in two weeks to see if cyber killed all the cancer in that spot. I hope so. That's a rough area to mess with. I have another met on my sacrum that is much smaller. ONC wants to use it as a measure, so we aren't treating it yet. My CEA finally leveled off on Ibrance, but we still aren't convinced it's doing the trick.
In the meantime, my 18 year old son is coming home from college tonight, after being away for 8 weeks. I miss him SO much. This will be a very thanks filled thanksgiving for me.
Wherever you are in the world, it's always a good day to be thankful for the blessings that we do have. Happy Thanksgiving and happy day!

Good morning all!
I'm running for the ferry, but wanted to say that my interview won't be a video She is doing a 2 hour interview with me & then writing a peer reviewed paper which will be released next year. Sorry about that! When I'm able to view the paper, I will link that. She is wanting to interview women who are living with MBC on Vancouver Island. So if there is anyone else out there lurking, PM me if you would like her contact information.
We're heading out again today, top down with another friend. It's going to be cold & exhilarating, hope to see some orcas again. I will get caught up on the thread tonight.
Take care everyone, cheers, Dee

Happy Thanksgiving!
Spending time with family in Colorado is a great reminder of how full my life is and how grateful I need to be for every day. Planning to be grateful for every day from here on out and to be around to do this again next year.
I'm so grateful this message board is available for those of us having this "experience." Warmest wishes to each of you.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! As far as bone biopsy goes.... I had one done because they could not find anything in primary breast. This was after 18 years of remission. Bone biopsy results showed b/c again but showed er/pr neg unlike first ca was positive. Dana Farber does not agree that I am neg so they are treating me with Ibrance/ Fem and I am getting 3 areas of rads. I start second cycle tonight. I think biopsies are dependent on how much they have to calcify the bone to get the proper ca results with pathology and when doing so it looses the estrogen prog quickly.
I have a house full of family and counting each special moment. I just wish I had more energy.0 -
Hello everyone and Happy thanksgiving in the USA. Update; i still have the drain in my wound as it is draining more than 30 cc maybe next week they can take it out. They did lifted some of the restrictions on the hip going from a 60 degree angle to now 90 degrees. Right now I'm on my way to my onco to get my Abraxane chemo infusion.
Hope everyone is feeling better and sending hug

Auro- I hope
That drIn comes out soon too. Glad you're feeling better! Hugs0 -
Terre - oh sweetie, you have so much going on and you took the time, thx so much, it's good to know. So haapy for you.
LindaE - SHE is holding up, she is a riot. Let's just say, she will have pain BUT she will do the cooking. We'll share it tom. You know Linda there was a movie that I never forgot with Farrah Fawcett and Coleen Dewhurst being her MIL, anyway she was sick, and there was one request that she asked her DIL( never mind they had previously had an ambivalent relationship), she should make her sure she shaves her moustache!! Unforgettable! I thought Coleen was so old then!!!! So love it! Maybe you could take that movie out too.
Deanna - as always thx, I will look into those. It may even be good for hubby, he has so much issue with back problems.
DaughterL - HOW INSANE!!!! What gall would a Normal doc refuse to give you a prescription knowing your family hx. I sure hope they could sleep at night, it's pure ignorance. To make a long story short, my daughter was just in her mid 20's when she felt a lump the size of an olive, gyno refused to send her for a mamo, claiming exactly what your so called doc said, she is too young(there is no such a thing as too young, maybe it used to be less frequent, but unfortunately i have heard of many young women that have BC, and men!!). We went to a place that we had to pay out of pocket, it's about 400.00 and the rest is hx. So no way, you should let them hold you back, it's worth it to pay with your own money, even more with your fam. hx!! We didn't even have a close relative with BC, and after testing Dani is not BRCA1/2 AND she still got it, just like many others. Please!! also, if I may, always get 2nd opinions, and go with your gut!! As a matter of fact her sisters, of course went for mamo, we were advised they start at the age that she was dx. and by some shocking turn of events they had something, we even had to do further testing, although docs swear it's just pure coincidence! They go now evry 6 mos!
Wendy, i'd say you are more than entitled to ck on mets with biopsy. From the little I know, yes, MOST of the time it's the same monster, But it could be a different type. My daughter's had changed, yes we did it only after much tx was only showing progression, but truth be told I did not know that we could have done a biopsy when it first reappeared. And, btw, yes my daughter breastfed, she had babies early, did not get the period early, so all those signs are not full proof.
Dee hey you for sure have a few good stories to tell of all your endeavors!!
Au - hoping you get to yourself real soon. Marilyn - good for you.
Lynn, how is it going?
To all of you wonderful caring ladies, have a great meaningful Thanksgiving.

Ann the reason I was asking was just that I had found it somewhat interesting that so many of us are told to do certain things aka breastfeeding, staying thin etc. However we still end up with this disease. 😬. Momallthetime I will definitely check at my next appointment what's that saying the squeaky wheel gets the oil? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your family.
Dee have fun in the sun it may be chilly but it's sure beautiful out.
Stefanie enjoy having your son home that's always the biggest thing for moms is being together isn't it. Lots to be thankful for.
Lynne wow five children good on you that must have been a lot of work. Now you reap the rewards with a full house and tons of love.
I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving🦃🦃🦃🦃

momal, I am as outraged as you are. I'm definitely the type to worry at each ache and pain and I want to start this process asap. I'll have better insurance next July so am assessing whether to wait until then.
From limited info, the biopsy results were not as good as we hoped for. Before, doctors were sure chemo wouldn't be needed for awhile but now recommending chemo right away. Need to do more MRIs as the pain is unbearable. I think she might be telling us tomorrow
Feel free to chime in but I feel like starting on chemo right away has a much worse prognosis.. that it's more aggressive than originally thought... I'm so sad and now need to go do thanksgiving festivities with friends and the bf's family with a broken heart.
On hopefully happier notes, hope everyone is looking forward to thanksgiving.

I was just reading all of your gratitudes and I'm so honored to be a part of this thread and all of you amazing women.
Kathryn, I see you were just diagnosed. You will find so much information and understanding here. We are all in this together and I think you will soon see we share good times and bad times. It is a safe haven here.
I can't begin to mention all of you by name tonight but know I'm holding you all dear. I baked 2 pies and it smells like heaven in my house. I second Myra's post of eating, enjoying and putting cancer aside for a day. A good night to all.....

I am well beyond being able to remember each of you by name (lucky I can remember my own!), but I wanted to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving, or just a wonderful weekend for those who don't celebrate it. I am grateful for my full and happy life, my family, my job and my good health despite MBC. I am also thankful for bco and for the wonderful support it offers us all.

Hello All!
I don't think I've ever seen this thread have no posts for 10 hours, must be some kind of record.
I had my interview for Living well with MBC today. Found out a bit more about the study. They are being asked by the Gov't agencies what services for MBC patients are needed in our area. So that's kind of exciting that we are finally on the radar.
Sad news today too though, my friend Susan passed away from colon cancer. She wasn't expected to live much beyond Christmas, so it was a shock as she was just sent to hospice 2 days ago.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Cheers, Dee
