It seems as if when it rains it pours. I had to put my dog to sleep today. He was 11 eleven years old and had been feeling really bad these past couple of months. He was on painkillers, had problems walking and going up and down the stairs, lost a lot weight. This morning I found him hiding behind a recliner and did not want to move. I tried to take him outside to do his business and he just fell on the floor and peed there. It's not the first time that he "jams" but today was worse than ever. I knew this was coming but it breaks my heart. Managed to get him the car, and the girls at vet brought him in on a stretcher. He is now in the paradise of dogs. Had him since he was 4 months old and he brought me so much joy. I know this is not like losing a human being, but had to share this with you girls.

Linda, I know that it is difficult to lose a pet. You knew it was time, and you know that you did the right thing. I realize that you will miss your dog's companionship, warmth, love and loyalty . I am sorry for your loss.

Gosh Linda, so sorry. I know how difficult it is to lose such a sweet companion. My dog knows when I am sad and comes to cuddle with me. I hope you're done with bad news. Love Myra.

Linda, I'm so sorry, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. Sending you extra big hugs today. I cried reading your post, it brought back memories of when our cat became very ill.

Linda loosing a pet is like loosing a part of your family. We lost our 13 year old retriever and I have never seen my children so sad it was horrible. But she went very peacefully sometimes I still think she had a better end than a lot of people I've known. She is where there is no pain hugs to you today. Now you need something positive to happen eh and it will.

I'm not on an antidepressant but I think it's time to discuss this with my GP. Anyone really like what they are on? Can you share? Thanks. I'm so tired of crying and thinking like a negative person out of being scared. Thanks.

Loves, I have been on Wellbutrin for 12 years, so I was on it pre cancer. Its very mellow and just helps me keep my head above the water, so to speak. There are some other ones that have been mentioned on these threads that are pretty popular among the bc crowd. I'm sure somebody will chime in with the names. You should not have to fight your depression without help. It is an obvious and understandable side effect of a bc diagnosis, and should be treated, just as the rest of your disease is treated. I hope you can rise above the dark clouds soon.

Loves I'm on Cymbalta since 2009 prior to dx. I feel great with it no se and has the added benefit of helping with joint pain.
Don't be afraid to request something the latest ASCO protocol for cancer patients is that we all should be screened for depression.
Sending (((hugs))) of comfort to you.

LindaE54,
So very sorry to hear about your dog. They give us unconditional love and loyalty and losing one is so sad. My good memories of him comfort you.
Lovesmaltese,
I have been on Effexor since dx. No problems and I really believe it helped me stave off any depressive episodes

Hi everyone,
Have not been able to catch up here lately, just got home from a great movie but a tearjerker (Brooklyn) and was very sad to hear your news, Dee and Linda. So sorry, Linda you are right, when it rains it pours. But the sun will come out again. Sending hugs your way.

Thank you, all of you. The house is so quiet and empty but Mr. Doggy is in a better place. It was 11 years of unconditional love. I'm so thankful for you all and to be able to share these bad episodes. I hope to report good things soon.
Loves - I'm on Zoloft, anti-depressant and also very good for anxiety. By all means, don't stay that way. We need help from chemistry. Anti-depressants can be trial and error until you find the right fit. It took a few different ones for me until the right one was found but could not do without it.

LindaE - I want to add my condolences for the loss of your Mr. Doggy. They bring so much comfort and companionship. I remember when my two dogs passed (a year apart) and how empty and lost I felt. Especially since I don't have any family.
How do you know if you are depressed? This is a subject my MO has never brought up with me. I guess I'm just so used to excessive stress for so many years, it seems normal, so never really considered
mentioning it to my doctor. Any thoughts?
