Bone Mets Thread

Thanks Wendy,
I just need to see past the label of stage 4 I think, I have probably lived quite happily with my bone mets perhaps since my initial breast Ca diagnosis. I was never scanned or checked at that point. Just that I didn't know about them.
My husband wants us to travel the world once the chemo is done, will I get travel insurance I wonder? I want to get back to my excercise, I loved circuit training but had to stop with my frozen shoulder. Walking with my dogs helps a lot, as does being here talking to other ladie

Exercising as much as possible is critical. Each one has different mbc pain from none to lots- so we find our own fitness choices.
Travel insurance and being able to cut our losses is part of life now. But, it probably would be without mbc just because we are 67 and 73! But, DO get out and do all you can.

wow Wendy, I've never heard of dragon boat racing! That looks amazing

Wendy is amazing that she is so involved and strives to not let MBC stop her!! She's so inspiringalong with many others that go the extra to keep in shape. Like Lindalou and Z!! All have inspired me to get out and walk.
Hugs Carol
PS Vevs- Z posted a link for you just wanted to make sure you didn't miss it.

Patty it was kind of funny how I started. I had gone to my first stage four support group held at my cancer hospital here in Vancouver. There I met a bunch of ladies who were very sad and had various problems associated with cancer at late stages. There I also met Joy a fellow breast cancer stage fourer. We got to chatting about excerise and she told me why don't you come down to the water tonight we are having a practise at five. So I went tried it and loved it immediately. Unknown to myself and Joy however there were certain rules as with all clubs. I had come in after the official registration had closed. The older ladies said no she is late she cannot join. To my surprise a coalition for Wendy to join the club was started and a lot of fighting was done on my behalf until the board decided to stretch the rules. It was because I was stage four that I got in for no other reason. Now I'm in and have shown that I can contribute to the boat. It's is almost a zen like experience when we are all in time , we are a cancer fighting machine with every stroke that hits the water we are all saying "fuck you cancer" it's so moving I can't tell you. I have made many friends and I would recommend anyone to get a boat started. You need at least 14 people a steerer and a drummer. The excerise I get it a great benefit to my health I believe but the biggest part is that we are a team and in this together. Woman have strength here on this page and everywhere else. When we put aside our petty issue and come together and support each other there is nothing we can't accomplish.
Wow sorry a bit of a rant. I wish all of you ladies a great weekend with tons of healing and strengthening😊

I love when you wave at us but love more when the pain has gotten better.

So true Carol I second that Patty what's so interesting about cancer to me is that we CAN fight it in a big way and I hear countless stories of people coming back from the being very unwell. Patty you are one of those ladies our bodies can heal and be strong again I believe this with all my heart💞

Love your racing photos, Wendy, and the story of how you got in is wonderful!
Speaking of not letting a Stage IV dx keep us from living, did Andi post the photos here of her recent 2-day hike in the Colorado high country? I know they're somewhere here on BCO, as well as on her FB page. Andi, if you haven't posted them here, please do! They are incredibly beautiful and inspiring.
Patty, so glad you're back and posting regularly again!
Vevs, my goodness, you were just diagnosed! I know it took me a good 6 mos., including several pity parties, to realize a Stage IV dx isn't all doom and gloom. But it is imperative to have an upbeat, competent onc, and to get on a regimen that will slow things down and get any pain under control. I honestly believe the tide is finally turning and we're going to see a lot more focus on mbc, which hopefully will result in more breakthroughs that will benefit us all.

Wendy-I am so impressed with you being able to do the dragon boat. My brother has been trying to get me to do that at MSKCC but I don't feel it's for me. I have gone back to working out at long last and it makes me feel so good. Before BC I worked out at lest 3-4 times per week. I only really walked until I became a part of an exercise study at MSKCC. Once that ended, I realized it was time to up my game. Thankfully we have a great gym in our building so I'm working out 3-4 times per week and will keep it up-I hope!!!!
Wishing everyone a great weekend,
Babs

Hello ladies Thought I'd try to post today, it's been an interesting week!
Carol, you inspired me to download Katy Perry to my playlist LOVE That song
Kathryn, thanks so much for your welcome a few days ago. I have found this group to be absolutely awesome
Elen, I'm so sorry you have joined our group, but these ladies are great cheerleaders and a great source of inspiration and support. I was just diagnosed a little over a month ago with extensive bone mets, and am still reeling a little, but things are getting better slowly. I had 9 1/2 years between my first diagnosis and this one. My onc. put me on Femera, which I started two weeks ago, and after some dental work that had to be done, I am starting XGeva in about seven weeks. I'm hoping and praying that knocks these cells back into a somewhat normal pattern. I cried so much when I first found out, so don't ever feel bad, because I think most have done the same.
Silviah, I have survived mostly, thanks for asking
Wendy you are an INSPIRATION!!! Goodness, I need to start walking and I haven't even done that yet.
Ok, three days ago, I lost three teeth. I thought, Oh gosh I can do this...NEVER again will I have three teeth pulled without being completley under. It wasn't painful at all, don't get me wrong, but I had a problem with bleeding and then yesterday was just a completely useless day. Today finally I am feeling a little bit better. I have a root canal scheduled for Friday and the dentist said that is the last thing I need done that will involve the jaw. I have a few other teeth that need some work, but he said, do not involve the bone at all, so they can be done later. Then I see my onc again on the 20th and will see how my bloodwork up is (do that a week before) and when he says I can start XGeva.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful long weekend, and thanks to all of you for your support and understanding

So today is wedding day, (I'm their planner) but yesterday I was hard at work getting ready both physically and mentally for a very long but exciting day. Here's a couple photos of my two assistants, hard at work.

Hi Patty,
Yes, the ceremony is on the beach of Lake Superior and it's a superior day! Temps in the low 70's with a very slight breeze. I have to run and finish set-up but happy to share my day yesterday. Will get a few wedding photos up later.
XOXO
Amy

Patty: our vacation isn't tropical and there's no pampering, but it's been wonderful. New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Maine. Lots of hiking, kayaking, childhood friends, family. And playing with our friends' twelve four-week-old puppies. But definitely ready for fall and home and back to school.

Gracie - I had a tooth pulled two weeks ago. Still on a light pain killer regime but returning to normal this weekend. It took a long time to heal. Had to have stitches removed and replaced after a week. Hurt for a long time. This was ONE tooth. It sounds like you are not on any sort of chemo and doing MUCH better. But do take care.
Vev - Go ahead and throw a pity party or two. The first 6 months adjusting to the new facts are very hard. Many things have been taken from you suddenly; this is no small thing. Nobody can tell you everything will be alright. We lose wonderful people on this forum on a regular basis to this disease. People who did everything they could to keep going for their families ... we've lost someone incredible only this weekend.
But there is a lot we can do to improve our odds: staying informed about all our treatment options, getting second opinions, supplementation, eating well and exercising. Take whatever time you need to absorb the diagnosis. Then when you are done, join us over at Stage IV Fitness where we you will meet some astonishingly fit and positive women.
There is a lot to do ... many women do live very well for a very long time.
