    Rangermom,

I am also so glad to hear from you! I was so worried when I hadn't seen you here for so long. It was so good to see your post here - I am so sorry for all you've been through lately though. You have been in my thoughts and prayers - will continue to send more your way. I hope your recovery from the surgery goes well. Congratulations on that new grand-baby! I hope you are feeling well enough to enjoy it soon! You may have said before, but is it a boy or girl? I just found out recently that I'm going to be a grandma too! We'll have to swap baby pics. Ours isn't due until April, but I'd love to see pics of your new little one in the meantime. : )

Sending love and prayers and lots of hugs,

imageDay after getting back on the oncology floor. Holding him was so healing for me. He was born the night before the first surgery. I am in in house rehab for another week relearning walking and daily living. Each day I am improving. I wanted to be there more for my daughter but through texting we are keeping as close as possible.

If feel so blessed to be upright and given this chance to find the right chemo now for whatever new bugger thinks its making a home in my body. All prayers and affirmations welcome. Everett Russell, nov 2 8:07 pm, 7 1oz, 21"

Rangermom, your grandson is so beautiful and I'm sure he provides you with so much more inspiration. The loss of Spamgirl is difficult, it's especially hard when you grow close to someone.

Rangermom, congratulations!! Nice picture! Hope you feel better soon.

Scoutmom, there are so many options available if you cannot afford treatments - you can  talk to the financial office at your clinic/hospital. They'll ususally work with you. As others have suggested, have you looked into government healthcare site? Do you qualify for Obamacare? How about Medicaid assistance from NJ state?

The toughest situation is when you are caught in the middle - making a little too much to qualify for subsidized govt help and not making enough to pay for the treatments.

Hope things work out for you. Please take care of yourself.

    Desi.

Hi all. Rangermom- sorry for your trials, but thrilled about your beautiful grandson and great progress. Love the pic with the baby!

aao - congratulations on the chemo break! What a great holiday present!

Scoutmom - I am very sorry you're going through this. I've had similar thoughts, and I empathise and hope you can find some financial relief so you don't have to much such awful choices.

Australia - thanks for the advice, I'll give it a go and find some herbal toothpaste. I use a soft toothbrush and the ONJ is better. Back on antibiotics again but things seem healed over again. I'm definitely over my pity party.

I work with a healer and she said she was feeling that the artificial sweetener (aspartame) was part of what was causing my problem. She thinks I have developed a sensitivity (almost like an allergy) to it and advised me to give it up for a bit and see what happens. I was having 2 or 3 diet cokes a week. So I quit ingesting anything with aspartame - pretty much anyway. However, I had a diet drink on Thursday (only thing available at the time and I was thirsty) and my mouth started hurting again - nothing broke through, but it was starting again. So there may be a connection. I know I shouldn't be drinking/eating stuff with aspartame anyway so it's not hard to give it up.

My really good news is that I FINALLY have my CT scan next Tuesday and see my oncologist on 27 November. I am so happy that this is getting done before the holidays. New Zealand shuts down for Christmas; basically, most of the businesses, etc., close from about 20 Dec until 15 Jan and hospitals pretty much only take emergencies. No matter what the result of the scan is, it will be nice not to have it weighing on my mind over the holiday break. Intellectually, I know that if my bone scan/blood work had shown anything bad, the MO would have put me in for an urgent CT scan instead of routine scheduling. Emotionally, it weighs on my mind, so it will be nice to just know what's going on.

Hugs and love to all of you,

    Terre

Terre, I'm glad you finally have your scan scheduled. Keeping my fingers crossed that things turn out well. That's so interesting that businesses close for such a long time in NZ. What about husbands who wait until Dec. 24 to go Christmas shopping? Singing

Thanks MaryL. There are some stores still open, as well as hotels, hospitals, mini-marts, some restaurants, etc. Until not that long ago, all businesses were closed on Sundays here. More and more stores are staying open longer before the holidays, so Dec 24 shopping is possible, but the selection may be a bit limited.

And it's basically illegal for most businesses to be open on Christmas and Easter. On other holidays, the can't open until after 1 pm. So, we have Christmas shut-down here. At my workplace, we finish Dec 20 and come back Jan 6. Of course, we get a mandatory minimum of 4 weeks vacation per year, and Christmas Day, Boxing Day (26 Dec), New Year's Day and the day after New Year's are all public holidays. So I only have to burn 6 days annual leave to get a bunch of time off, which is sweet as.

I had some friends from the US do a tour around NZ and I told them about the Easter shut down. I don't think they quite understood until they got here - we saw them after Easter and they were marveling at the fact that basically everything was shut down.

After living in Vegas for many years, where things never close, it was a bit of a shock when I first moved here, but I'm used to it now and actually rather enjoy it!
