So my big hospital client here called today and all the folks who do their projects just did a big exodus, so she wants my help. I knew I might go back there eventually, but was not thinking so soon.

However, I think I can probably pick and choose and will only offer to work there and be on site 3 days a week. Allows me to do work for other people too. They pay me very well, but also can be tough to work for. We are working on a date to have dinner next week. Might be a good way to get the cash flow going......

    The world is my oyster!

Teka, yes, the 2014-15 flu vaccine, but I had the larger dose because I had pneumonia in March.  Last year I had the larger dose because of my age but no reaction.

Jazzy, weren't you happy to finish with the hospital?  Might you have more control with a new contract?

  • jazzygirl
    jazzygirl Member Posts: 11,974

Sally- yes I was glad to finish that contract. It was a particularly difficult project dealing with some very hard people who were inexperienced in their roles. My primary client there is good to work for and she is the one asking, but the last gig was for the IT group vs. the business and that was my problem. I won't work through that part of the organization again. Someone in my networking meeting this morning said you need to be sure to only work for people you like and she is the one I like, not the IT group.

I had a chat with my primary client tonight and said I would need to contract directly for her as I used to through the business side vs. IT side just like I used to. She gets that too and seems open to doing that again. We are going to have lunch next Thursday (9/25) and talk about a few options. I think she would be glad to have any help I can give her, the question will be, what do I want to do? More conversations to come!

I need to get my flu shot too.....

Anyone watching the Roosevelts on PBS? I missed the second night, but saw the first and now watching the third. So much history I never knew. Also a reminder of such hard times folks had then with the illnesses that took the lives of their children or otherwise compromised their health.

  • Mags, what a wonderful gift and you look lovely in the new scarf.  I actually prefer to wear scarves as wigs feel so fake to me.  I only wore one out once and tore it off the second I got home.  Although, I might feel differently when it gets colder.  I did get a few new hats at my Look good feel great class.  My favorite is red with a brim, sort of a newsboy cap.  When I am home I am bald.  Nobody cares at home so that makes it easier.  I think I'm getting sick, sore throat and swollen glands.  No fun. Me and the dog are going to lay low and hope I don't get a fever. Hope everyone has a good night.

Thanks all for the friendly welcome. Who knew that hermits could be so friendly, lol!  I really like the freedom of topics in this thread. It just occurred to me that the great majority of comments I have posted on the Stage 2 Sisters (where I have been most active) have been directly related to BC.  I realize now that it does not have to be that way.

Jazzy - I wanted to watch the Roosevelts but forgot all about it. I wonder if there is any way to watch it from the beginning? Am thinking perhaps the episodes are on Solar Movie.

Can you guys tell yet that I kind of like cats? :)

    jazzygirl Member Posts: 11,974

Maiden- sorry you are under the weather. Take care of yourself and feel better soon! And yes, lots of cat people here, but there are dog lovers too. I like em all.

Monis- yes, my professional stuff can be something else, huh? The nature of us consulting types......

Blondie- I crashed early and now awake a bit too early. Going to go back to bed for awhile, need a bit more sleep.

Nisa- there are a number of threads here that are good for talking about specific things. Types of treatment people go through- surgery, chemo, rads, etc. I belong to an arimidex thread where I will go to talk about managing the SEs from that. We have folks here on this thread that are in all stages of it too- recently diagnosed, several here currently going through chemo, some of us further down the pike, etc. We try to help the newbees and those in active treatment with their questions and info that may be helpful to them. It is important to talk about other things too, as we often we find it's the little things in life that happen for us each day that really matter most!

I bet the PBS web site would tell you how to access the whole series? They seem to be running it continuously here this week on our local station. Maybe check your station web site for your area to see what they have available, it could also be on line, who knows? Ken Burns just does a great job with talking about american history and he makes it interesting too.

Cami, Teka, Onco, Lili, Sally, Bippy, Mags, and everyone else here, hope you are doing okay!

Jazzy, I am watching the Roosevelts TV series too although I just started last night with the second one ... missed getting the first on the DVR but will see it's being replayed tomorrow.

hi Hermettes!  Jazzy and Teka,  you're my inspiration today.  Jazzy I'm so amazed that you're working at such a high level too. Go get them girly!  Teka, cookies sound awesome today.

Bippy has made soups, and cleaned both the bathroom and the kitchen today, in anticipation of the suck to come after Friday's third round of chemo. feel so normal today it's hard to believe I have cancer ha ha!

I'm craving sweets today so I may make a cherry pie. Fruit--healthy right?!  In other hermit! news I'm going to be reading, playing games and watching trashy TV after chemo, when not napping.

I've decided that this fall and going to do a lot of baking which I never had time to do when I was working. I'll be doing lots of breads and then wrapping them up pretty, and delivering them to girlfriends who have been helpful during this difficult time.  I'm collecting recipes and it's great fun!

Hi hermits- been busy today, but checking in to see what folks are up to. Sounds like there is some baking going on and cooking planned with some too. I am on board with it too, and going to make my crock pot of green chili stew today as it is a rainy day here with left over hurricane stuff in the state. Tomorrow may be a real soaker, and I guess I may not get to the state fair this week as I was hoping for. It is not fun there in the rain.

I went to meet my personal trainer today for our scheduled session and she looked at my waist and said "I am seeing a change, we need to measure". I have already lost 1 inch around my waist, and she said this is really excellent to see so early on (1.5 weeks into it). The work outs she is doing are designed to get my core strengthened, the cardio to burn the fat, and then working on the strengthening of the arms and legs (today's session). She told me not to pay attention to the scale as much as we need to focus on the waistline and as this number goes down, it means the fat around my organs is going away first, which is what she wants. I am on my way with this new plan, and look forward to my work outs with her (although my muscles talk to me sometimes after). My abs still hurt from Monday, but they have been weak for awhile so they are getting some attention with all this now.

Bippy- I am glad you are doing so well through chemo and think having the cooking to look forward to is a nice thing. Be sure to not put too much pressure on yourself to do a lot when you are going through active treatment though. You need a lot of rest through the whole process as you certainly know. Rest when you need to and cook when you feel good. Cherry pie sound delish!

Teka- those cookies sound super yummy. Cookies always the best right out of the oven! Virtual drooling over here.....

Hoping everyone else is doing okay today?

Maiden, hope your symptoms go away quickly.

Blondie, hope you got some sleep.

Monis and Jazzy, thanks for the well wishes.  After resting much of yesterday except for my lunch out with a friend and really sleeping last night, I feel just fine today.

Teka, I bet your house smells wonderful.

Bippy, you sound very organized.  How wonderful to thank people with homemade bread.

Aw Bippy I used to be quite the bread baker before my back couldn't take it any more. Standing to knead would lay me up for days. And I just never wanted to use an electric kneader. I have a bread machine but we don't use it much. I used to do the recipe from Tassajara Bread Book; I have a 16 quart stainless steel bowl that I would mix it in because the recipe made 5 good sized loaves. Whole wheat & honey; I'd also add oats and sometimes steamed whole grain wheat berries. On bread baking days my family would descend upon me at 5 which was when the bread came out of the oven, and we would devour the first loaf with real butter. Then they'd all beg to take some home. DH still brags about my bread. Wish I still could.

Wait – fresh bread with real butter – is that what gave me cancer? (j/k)

yay Sally so glad to hear it,

Jazzy you are taking care of yourself.

Bippy so excited for you that you have the energy to do those things, I am so tired most of the time to do much of nothing.

have no idea what my deal is last time i looked at the clock it was 440am and slept til 400pm...getting up to take my medication and to go to the bathroom...assuming it is insomnia whatever, I know it isn't the steroids cause I didn't take them and couldn't sleep anyway.

Good morning hermits- slept well after a few days of not sleeping well. I am waking up to clear skies and going to the state fair today. Whoot whoot.

I finished my crock pot of green chili stew last night. The chili is kind of hot too!

Jazzy, have fun at the fair.  I have to replan my day because smoke from the California fires is clogging our air.  I am so weird ... when my plan for a day is messed with, I have trouble replanning.

I am kind of reeling at the moment..........I decided to tackle various issues in the health system with some professional help as I am not happy about quite a few things as I am not receiving correct standard of care in some areas.  I also decided to mention the theme of reconstruction even though I had accessed all official rights documentation at the relevant time before.  Guess what!  All the evidence I gathered to stake my claim to reconstruction on the publlic system  WAS correct and ALL the  medical staff who told me it was not valid or did not apply LIED!!!!! I don´t really know what to say I am so stunned that  medical and managerial professionals would so blatantly lie and misrepresent the truth and now I don´t know if I can trust them in other areas, I was going to write I just  feel, but Idon´t know what I feel, except that it feels huge and a massive betrayal.  Now I need to find energy for yet another battle I really don´t want......

Lily- I am glad you pursued this and found out you were not getting the care you needed. I assume the battle may be a legal one, and understand your reluctance. But if they did you wrong, you are entitled to something in return. Medical care should not ruin your life.

Sally- sorry to hear you are dealing with smoke from the fires. This was the first year we did not have smoke coming over here from the big AZ wildfires that were bad the past few years. I think it is because we has a better than usual monsoon season in NM and AZ this year and less problems with fire. Now it's about flooding with all the tropical storms. I hope the smoke moves through. I cannot be outside much with bad wildfire smoke with my asthma. I hope you were able to replan your day.

It was a good day for the fair today. Visited all my favorite places and ran into Tonto too.

These are people who knew I was vulnerable, knew that recon really mattered to me yet still lied even when I referred them to the relevant legislation.  At that time I was feeling too vulnerable and shell shocked to pish too much although I did check the info with 3 doctors and two managers...........

Mags, haha! Not bushy-tailed here either but working hard on paperwork to keep the good energy moving. Lily, I don't know what happened to you but I share your disappointment with medical systems whose priorities are not patients.  A dear friend is dealing with stage 4 esophageal cancer and he keeps being denied things he needs urgently. I'm so mad about this!!!!!!  Nice weekend to all.  The heat is giving us a break in SoCal. It should be nice and cool in the 60s and 70s.  Hugs, Nisa

Hi hermits- I have many things I am doing today and going to Taos tomorrow for a little northern NM get away.

Lili- I hope you can find some resolution to this situation. It is terrible to be taken advantage of when you are sick and vulnerable. I am proud of you that you are advocating for your own needs.

Teka- tell us what you get for new glasses? I got some new ones this year too, from Denmark I think.

Mags- I dragged my butt to cardio/core training this morning and suffered through it. No bright eyed and bushy tailed for me either!

Nisa- I am sorry about your friend with stage IV E-cancer. That is a very tough one to treat, and it is so often found late. I hope your friend can get someone to go advocate for his need.

My sister lives in Southern Cali and said it has been very hot out there. She said her pets have all been lethargic and finding cool places to veg in the heat.
