I'll bring him home with me. I have a thing for biceps.

Boy sick. Not sure allergies/asthma/virus. There's one going around. He's at my sisters since I have an 8 am appt to get port flushed. Otherwise I'll have to wait for hours as the are booked and short staffed.

Baby good. Bday on Monday. So we played with wooden bday cake tonight. Also saw baby chicks (banties).

Missed Livestrong today. Really missed going. Maybe a month left? Arm better. Back of armpit swelled this weekend. Arm weak. Couldn't throw trash into dumpster.

Wren. I think Goldie is yours.

Spookiesmom. Thanks for the kilts. One of my fav songs is The Drunken Scotsman.

OTC. Hope you're feeling better. I'm sure you've had your levels checked.

    Welcome vintage and SJS.

Granwe we need pix and stories!

Spookie - I read that as man in a kit!   LOL  OMG that reminded me of a funny show I used to watch with my daughter called Sabrina the teen-age witch.  Her aunts were also witches and one day they opened up a can of "Man Dough"  (play of words on play-doh).  They laid all this dough on the table and out popped a very handsome fireman!   I always enjoyed that show, they did some cute stuff like the time the aunt opened a can labeled "worms"... (can of worms...trouble!).  I actually bought the cd series...hmmm I may have to watch a few tonight.  I could use a good laugh ... we were dumped on with 7 inches of snow last night after 50 degrees yesterday.  Oh..and I had water in my basement during the meltdown...and hey while I'm whining, I'll mention I still have pretty bad tightness in my chest and soreness on my side.

    There I feel better!

OMG Spookie, I think you're going to start a fight here over who gets the hunk!! ...drool...

Zills, sorry to hear the boy is sick.  Hope it passes quickly and the baby doesn't get it.  What kind of B-day cake does the baby want?  Is that what the playing was about? Sorry you had to miss Livestrong, is there another series of classes you can take once this one is over? It sounds like a great class to keep doing.

PRB, I used to watch that show occasionally, definitely a mood lifter! Sorry about the snow and water in the basement...so not fun!

Wren, I'm thinking Goldie is yours too.

Gramwe, we are really needing a baby fix here!! :D

    Hugs for all!

Zills... My DS is an asthmatic. Have you tried a steam bath with vick's vapor bath? Steam the bathroom up really good and then put the vapor bath in the tub with him and let him breath the steamy vapor. You find it in the baby section. It is even safe for your little one. I hope he gets better soon!

PRB~ hope the flooding in the basement doesn't get worse and sorry you are not feeling well.

FIA~ I bet he is man enough we could all share! and you are right it is HOT in here now!

I had a sent a thinking of you message to Bobo last week. She replied quickly today and she is back teaching and has "visitors". She will catch up with everything this weekend when her home is  back to the norm and the company is gone. Glad she is feeling better! Thought you girlies would like to know.

Hi ladies...sorry to interrupt the oogling!  (Nice, kilt though)!

I have my doctors appt tommorow to discuss & schedule my upcoming BMX.  Needless to say, I'm getting anxious.  I've noticed in the last week that during the day I feel very positive, level-headed, confident and ready to take on this next transition in my life, but at night and early in the mornings, I feel scared, confused & emotional.  How do we all deal with this emotional rollercoaster we've been forced to ride on?

Anyhow, I have questions about post surgery clothing.  Can't I just wear regular old sports bras and t-shirts after the surgery or should I be purchasing these expensive mastectomy bras & camisoles?  After the healing (whenever that is), do I even need to wear anything under my clothes?  I work in a clinic with scrubs and was just planning on being flat all the time.  Guess I'll get the hang of it some time.

Now, back to the oogling :)

cdelv... you have found the right place to hang and oogle!!! Seriously though, good luck with the appointment tomorrow. If you read back a bit, you will see the sisters have been helping me through this emotional rollercoaster. Today has not been one of my better days, but what I have learned is: 1) rely on the girlies here to help you through the rough patches

    2) It is ok to cry and be emotional. But when you are done,  put your big girl panties back on for as long as you can. Then, break down and do it all over again.

    3) There is no rhyme or reason to this new "normal" we are figuring out.  There are those that won't understand and those that will. You just have to cling to the ones who do understand and are willing to hold you up when you can't hold yourself together.Remember... "Friends are angels who lift us up when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly". These ladies have been my angels for the past month.

There is lots of good info back through this thread, I finally decided to start back at the beginning and have made it to May 2013.  There is also lots of fashion advice on the other thread "rockin' it flat like a bad as$."

Just know we are all here and with help you on this journey you are on and send (((huggz)))) your way.

    Stacey

Cdelv, My BS said no bras for 5 weeks after mx. Everything has to heal before you can be fitted. Lots of women go flat and rarely wear a bra and prosthesis. You may find raising your arms to put something over your head is hard at first, so tops that button down the front are good. I had 2 microfleece PJ tops and a flannel shirt that buttoned. You can wear regular t-shirts as soon as you can get them over your head. You'll want something soft next to your skin. Jockey makes really soft tanks, but they're pricey. Some women get soft camisoles and wear them inside out so the seams are on the outside. You can add a pocket to a bra you already own, too. The website mastectomysolutions.com has directions and lots of other tips. You're right that it's a roller coaster.

Hi again....ooooh I can't leave you lot alone for a moment...there you all are drooling over the man in a kilt...move over sisters it's my turn to drool!!!! Och, I love a Scots accent too!

PRB so sorry you have had water in too, and the tightness and the sore side as well. Hugs to you!

Zillls, Bec is and asthmatic too. I spent many nights sitting on the edge of the bath with all the faucets running on hot. I hope the boy gets better soon! I am sorry but the baby's card is on its way, but will be late. I got the dates mixed up. I hope you can get back into the Livestrong.

Hi cdelv, good to see you here! Great advice from the others. We all understand how you're feeling, it's just the worst, while we wait. It's the fear of the unknown that gets to us. I wish you all the very best for a good outcome and a fast and uneventful recovery. We will all be here if you need us and we look forward to hearing how you get on. When it comes to dressing after surgery, I found that button front shirts were great and although I am a Uni, so I still have the other side to contend with, I find a good firm shape wear tank is good under a shirt if I want to go half flat.

You can decide what you prefer, Flat and Fabulous, or whatever size Foobs or Prosthesis you feel like, after you've healed, the choice is yours. As a group, we cover all possibilities, so ask away, if you have any questions, at least one of us will have direct experience to offer.

Thanks for the Bobo update jsj.I think she may be back soon...can't wait! M x

Oh, meant to say, I went to the Opp Shop, met up with the girls and caught up on the past week. Just as I was leaving there was a woman struggling with some big heavy bags which turned out to be the most beautiful Canna Lilies Tropicanna! I bought the lot and planted them all out when I got home. I already had some in the garden, but now, what a show they will all make, next year..... fantastic! M x

Thanks again!  I had my first appt this morning with the PS and told him I was only there to appease the BS.  We talked about going flat and the possibility of needing a 2nd surgery 6 months to a year later to clean up any dog-ears, skin flaps or bulges since mastectomies don't usually come out flat.  Have any of you had more surgeries to clean up the tissue, so to speak?

My appt with the BS is later today and I'm getting a little nervous.  Perhaps because I'm finally getting on the surgery schedule or else because I anticipate having to defend my choice to be flat & free!

Welcome cdelv! Totally normal to have these feelings of courage interrupted by panic. I remember when my father (who came from Florida just for my surgery) drove me to the hospital the morning of the bmx, i said "Why don't we go to the airport instead of the hospital? Let's go to Italy!" As for clothing, I find mastectomy bras/camis very useful since I don't go flat and they have pockets for foobs. Also, the cami was super comfortable and helped keep the drains in place.

Zills, I hope your boy is getting better or that you have an appointment soon to find out what is wrong. Sorry about stupid LE. Have you been finding it getting worse since your last rad? Or is it there but getting better? Happy bday to Baby! Will she turn 2? Hugs!

Vintage, I hope your BMx goes well today. Take it easy!

jsj, in the pocket for your biopsy/lumpectomy tomorrow. I'm BRCA2+, I'm thinking of taking the summer off from treatments, letting my body recuperate from chemo and adjust to tamox (which I guess I will start at the end of May when chemo is done), then get a hysterectomy in Sept/Oct.

Spookie, thanks for the pics!Loopy It's fun that your DD was in piper bands, I love the music they make. No Scots blood at all in me unfortunately... just French and some native american.

ndgirl, I was smiling reading that you were laughing to tears at your bunco night!  It's healing to have that much fun!

M, glad you found these flowers!  Gardening is such a remote concept here, right now, after the foot of snow we got yesterday..... And it feels like -25C with the wind chill now, middle of the afternoon on March 13... Arghhh! I love gardening, yard work, and all that. It feels so good doing it, and you reap the rewards of your hard work. Can't wait!  Maybe 3 more weeks?

Thinking about you, bobo. Crazy that you're already back to work... take care of yourself. Can't wait for the MD update, I hope she's not driving you bananas.

hi gB!  Is your place still dry?

Idesim, I hope everything is going better with your family members and you're not working as hard. How is your mother, what is next for her?

Wren, have you decided what you will do with Goldie? Do you see yourself keeping her?

TB, how are you doing? How many more weeks of rad do you have left?

Viv, SGC, granwe, I hope you are well. Hi Fia and everyone else!

I had my 3rd chemo treatment this morning, still with nurse Ahmed who is fantastic. My stomach has been feeling a little unsettled since yesterday, I think it was anticipatory queasiness! I just had chicken soup and feel much better now. We have to drink a lot the first days of chemo, but all this water is making me feel sick, so I will stick with ginger ale and tea for the rest of the day. May finally give Zills' ginger tea a try!

My mother arrived 2 days ago, it's going fine. I knew what to expect. She just means well, but all this "are you ok, what can I do, let me do this..." gets on my nerves. I'm just counting down the days, but I know DS is so happy to see her and she's happy to be with us. She came to chemo, saw how everything works, sees how well I feel, so she's re-assured. She also made spaghetti sauce yesterday and is making meat loaf today, so we will have yummy frozen meals.

I'm tired today.  Had to shovel the snow at the end of the driveway today, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get out.  I should have taken a picture..the dang snow plow deposited a 2 foot bolder of ice into my driveway!    Don't those plow drivers know I am only 3 weeks out from surgery?  lol   If cancer doesn't get me, this damn winter will.  So I came in and decided to clean the tub before my shower... shower rod and curtain fell on top of me.

Where is all that positive energy that M talked about a couple of weeks ago?  I must be going to win the lottery very soon...and then I'll charter a private jet, pick you all up...and we'll fly to Australia to have a chat with the boob master herself.  She has some explaining to do :)

Ih PRB, I am so sorry that you are having to shovel snow and ice too! Cleaning the tub! ouch, I wouldn't be trying that yet either! Yikes! I hope you don't have a bout of the "Claw" to contend with! That's the sensation like a sharp claw is holding your under arm and across your chest, almost always brought on by overdoing it.

Gosh, I don't think I'd have had all that positive energy if I had to do all that stuff! Over here they organize help for the first month if you need it. I was lucky to have someone come to do the cleaning and we even had the option of meals on wheels too. Bec was here for 10 days too. I am very fortunate that because of Colin's disability, we have carers in the house every day and they were happy to help me by hanging out washing and wiping and polishing the stone benches in my kitchen, which I just couldn't do at first.  They would sweep for me too, all our floors are timber or slate, so I was thoroughly spoiled. I had my surgery in Summer here, so instead of the freezing cold you are experiencing, I was in the searing heat. I stayed inside as much as possible, but I had to drive to my surgeon over an hour away one day when it was almost 45c!

Oh how great would it be if one of us could win the lottery and you could all Come on Downunder, what fun that would be! Take care now...my chest is hurting just thinking about what you're doing.  M x

otceb, I had to smile at you wanting to go to Italy, instead of the Hospital. I wanted to run away too!

I love my garden and yard work too, just hate raking the leaves, my neighbors have a huge Oak and Maple, among others. They have a gardener, but she never rakes anything, so as soon as the high winds start they all come into my yard. It isn't unusual to fill 50 big yard bags with their leaves back and front. There is way too much to even think about mulching. These leaves are my nemesis, and I got the claw a lot because of them!

I am so glad you aren't having too rough a time with the chemo, as Zills always says, keep up the fluids and don't eat stuff you really like! I hope you get through without the nausea.

I can totally relate to how you feel with your Mother there. My Mother was always trying to help out when she was at my house and it could drive me nuts too. Both she, and my Dad were a great help to me when Bec was small and I was renovating a house or working. There isn't a day I don't think about them and wish they could have seen where we are living now, they both would have loved it so much and I would have loved having them here. Mum would have driven me mad trying to do everything, and Dad would have been tinkering with the lawnmower or getting to know everyone at the club...... oh what I wouldn't give for just one day with them both again! There you go, I am teary now, I told you I have gotten way too sentimental since all this started:) M x

Hi cdelv! So it is all happening now for you, scary as it is, it is so much better when you come out the other side of the surgery. We will be with you at the appointment, just tell him what you want!

I can actually speak from very recent experience! I just had my irritating "Dog Ear" removed 3 weeks ago. It was easy, I had it done in my Surgeons office with a local anesthetic, which was my choice, not something you have to do and I couldn't be happier with the results. If you need to do this at a later date, it really isn't an issue. M x

so jealous of your calla lillies Ariom, beautiful flowers. It was so nice today, melted alot of snow and ice, but predicting colder weather this weekend, oh well a slower melt is much better right GB?

Ot, 3 chemo treatments down.. good for you, how many more? Enjoy your time with your mom, I am with Ariom, I wish I could spend a day with my parents too, and of course Mom would drive me crazy but that is all part of it I guess. Both my parents were wonderful to me and I was to them .. well maybe not the teenage years! After all it was the 60's!

Vintage, thinking of your surgery, hugs to you. Take it easy.

CD, good luck in your appt. hope it goes well.

PRB.. more snow to shovel.. ugh! March is very unpredictable for us here, I once read a poem or story about Mother Nature and her 12 kids (months) and March was her most unpredictable, could be so nice at times but then look out.. could be just as stormy! I always remember that. And the Ides of March is approaching! Sounds like you are overdoing.. take care, drink some wine and relax.

Wonder if Goldie is still charming Wren into staying?

Greetings to everyone, sorry if I dont mention everyone, but I always think of you all, just had a friend ask me how my "boob" friends are!! Everyone here knows how important you all are to me.

Hi all, just been out helping Colin get his model yacht ready for tomorrow. The season is nearly over, so I want him to get in as much sailing both with this boat and Mystique. It is the fiddliest work though, just as well I don't wear my nails too long these days or I'd never get those teeny, tiny knots undone!

I am wondering how Vintage is doing too! I hope she's having a great sleep and no pain!

nd girl, the lilies are Cannas not Callas, I have both, but the ones I just got are the outrageous, large striped leaf type, in deep brown, red and orange leaves with a big flower that resembles a large Gladioli. The type is Tropicanna, and the name really describes them well. I must get a picture if I can.

I had to laugh at your friends asking about the "Boob" friends. I have a girlfriend  I speak to every day on the phone and she asks specifics about you all because she is so used to me talking about what you're up to. It sounds a bit like a soap opera when I relate things to her, but she loves to hear how everyone is doing.

Sleep tight jsj, I hope we will have some news, catch you tomorrow! M x

Goldie peed on Wren's couch yesterday AFTER WATCHING me clean her litter box. Grrrrr. Noticed her guilty look right away and pulled the coverings off, so not much damage done. We have the worlds oldest sofa and it's been pummeled into submission by a series of cats, so i keep it covered. It's a strange size or shape so slipcovers are going to have to be made by me rather than purchased. I'm trying to think of something waterproof to cover it with in the meantime. Back in the 50's people covered their furniture with plastic to keep it nice. I'm beginning to think that makes sense although I agree there is nothing tackier. The shelter gave me samples of different litter so I can see if she prefers another kind. The selection is limited because so much cat litter is scented and I'm allergic to perfume.

I lucked out today at the shelter. I went down to watch the Mayor cut the leash to formally open the new dog kennels. Lots of reporters and cameras there. When I went into ISO, the difficult cat was still at the vet and the other two were not sick, just shy and new to the shelter. Their owner had died and they were in shock. When I see their reactions, I wonder if it's as hard for them to lose their owner as it is for us to lose a cat. They certainly seem depressed. All the volunteers think so.

Hope Vintage is resting comfortably now.

It was nice here today (supposed to rain tomorrow), so I weeded my raised beds. I need to get some compost to raise the level of the soil. They have an initial mixture of peat, vermiculite, and compost. After that you only need to add compost and it's best to mix kinds. I haven't decided what to plant this year.

Can't believe I am up at 4:30am waiting to leave for the hospital at 6:45. So, have started the bed linens in the laundry and sitting here trying to not  stress about the day surgery. It is no big deal really, just hate what the anesthesia does to my asthma. When I come out I feel like someone is choking me and I cannot catch a breath. Luckily the nurse from pre-op totally got it and told me to take my inhaler and she would have notes to tape it to my chart for use straight away. That does make me feel better!

Wren~ I am sorry Goldie peed on your couch. I must admit I smiled because I could imagine the guilty look. When our rotten youngest dog child makes a mess in the house you know it straight away.. That guilty look is priceless that is for sure.

Ariom~ I would love a pic of Colin's model yacht to show Sailman. He loves any kind of boat and would drool over it for sure. When John was little, we would take him over to the park to watch the remote sailboats. He is a big windsurfer and wind junkie from back in the day and at one point even felt  the rush from windsurfing was  better than sex. We still laugh about that from time to time.

Maybe we will hear from Vintage and Bobo this weekend to see how they are doing. Hope all others are well and enjoying life. You truly are my angels you know...

I have a bit of Asthma too and although it isn't bad, I always use my inhaler before I go in. I know that awful feeling when you wake up.

I'll be thinking about you! Let us know how you're doing when you can...Hugs from me.

I askd Colin to find a picture, so I will have him post it for you later...take it easy.. M x

Why is it so hard to find info on how to dress after mastectomy when choosing not to reconstruct or wear a prosthesis?  Does anyone have any great sources?  I am currently a 36/38 J, so buying tops being flat is going to be a whole new world to me!

Home from the biopsy/lumpectomy. YEAH the effin invader is GONE! Now I can rest a bit easier knowing that I can proceed with the pbm without having to worry about it. The doc told Sailman he took enough that he is sure he got all the papilloma. Pathology results will be back Monday. CD.. there is a new friend of mine on Facebook who has a closed forum on dressing afterwards. I know she stayed flat and I saw a cute outfit she wore to church the other day. Are you on FB? If so, let me know and I will go find out for sure what it is called.

M... thanks for being there with me this morning. I imagined I was on the beach with you girls drinking yummy tropical drinks with umbrellas as I went out. They had me use the inhaler going in and coming out so no trouble at all with the asthma.

Zills... how is your baby boy doing?  Did the special day for the baby go well? What  type of cake was decided on?

Wren.. I told Sailman about your DS's location and all he could say was "Heck Yeah!" We always wanted to go up there but never made it.

Any word or updates on Vintage? I hope she is doing well! Finally going to drink some coffee (they wouldn't give it to me in my iv... how rude!) and as a serious coffee drinker I am slobbering in anticipation. Huggz to all and thanks for being there with me this morning.
