Dawn, Chocolate covered raspberry licorice sounds like it could cure anything! I think scanxiety is shared by everyone who has had a scan. Thinking of you.

Cdelv, Nice looking even scar. The drains are a pain, but don't pull them too early. That's how I needed aspiration later. Don't worry now about the dog ears. If they don't go away, they can be fixed later.

I used almond oil with vitamin E on my scar and chest area. My skin must have been dry because it absorbed it right away.

Hugs for everyone who could use one.

Cde, your scars look so straight and no concaves, they will soon look so much better too.

Chocolate covered raspberry licorice, yum, I have never heard of it but sounds great! Agree with Wren, cure anything.

Ok ladies... have you in my purse ready to head for the hospital for the pre-op admit. Thank goodness you all fit! Stressing a ton... and anxious, but I KNOW I am doing the right thing and I will feel better once it is done. I will get on later tonight to see what all I have missed today... looks like quite a bit. Huggz to you all!

    Hi cdelv!

Beautiful scars! Great symmetry! I get the annoyance of the drains, but they will be gone soon. So glad you have come through it so well. Don't stress too much about the dog ears, I just had mine removed, a year after my surgery because it bothered me, but for many they just aren't an issue. Time will tell whether you  need, or want to do anything about them.

Take care of you and try not to overdo it , even though you feel good! We have all fallen foul of that! LOL M x

Just wanted to let you know, if you are interested, Erica at Breastfree.org has just included my set of pics, to show the journey to the removal, of the "Dog Ear", I am warning you there are some not so nice pictures, of this old girl, but I am so happy with the end result!Smile

Oh M, that dog ear must have been sooo annoying, I did not realize it was that prominent. I'm so glad you got it removed, it makes a world of difference visually and I know you feel much more comfortable too. Thanks again for sharing your journey, you are helping so many women.

jsj, I hope the pre-op went well!

dawny, congrats to your DH! About the scans and dx, it must be frustrating to have the story change and think you got tx that was not effective for your condition. It's bad enough to go through it - when it's for nothing, it's crap. Good luck with the scans next week, I hope they find what is causing you those headaches.

footballnut, how did the apt with your MO go? What's the next step? The scar lotion I use is LaRoche Posay Cicaplast - no idea if it's more or less effective than Vit E or something else.  I'm glad you like your team at CVH, dealing with caring professionals makes a world of difference.

Thanks for the tips, Zills. I have not iced my knees, the pain is not as bad today and I have not taken meds. However, I can't wait to be done my antibiotic for the sinusitis, it's been giving me strong stomach cramps. One more week... I hope to feel good enough to work at the office tomorrow, I won't be able to lie on my stomach there!  Was home with DS today, he was not feeling well. He's all good now though, probably just a stomach virus he was fighting. We're lucky that he's overall healthy - other than a few colds/year, he's really never sick. Have fun staying in town tonight, I'm glad you have the night off!

cdelv, thanks for sharing the picture of your scars, they are so straight! It will give a wonderful results in a few weeks time!

Fiaranch, idesim, viv, and everyone else, I hope you are well!  Hugs!

otceb, it was hard to get across just how big and annoying that sucker was, unless you see something, you just don't realize, but the difference without it, is just amazing. It is funny though, before all this, nothing would have made me  put up pics of myself topless, but there is just something about the connection with other women, going through the same angst, over what to do about things like these Dog Ears, that makes it doable.

When I was having this procedure done, I asked the Surgeon if lots of women do this. He said "Oh No!" "Most don't want any more surgery, and you are the first I have done without general anesthesia!" Considering that it is a relatively small surgery, still with risks, of course, but with such a great outcome and minimal down time. I just hope, if someone is sitting on the fence, seeing the huge difference it can make, not only to how it presents visually, but for me it relieved all that nerve sensation too, they can make an informed decision, either way.

I have been using organic coconut oil (cream). Soon as rads start I will be using some other creams that have been recommended.

Ariom, I can see why you insisted on revision. That chunk would be really hard to manage. Thanks for posting the photos. I've heard of at least one other woman on here who had the dog ears removed, so you're not completely alone.

Ariom~  Thank you for the post & dog ear pics.  You look fabulous and I'm glad the surgery was a success.  I agree about posting pics topless.  I never would have done that in the past, but prior to my surgery, it was the mastectomy pictures that I needed to see and understand to help me make my decision.

Thank you cdelv and Wren! I started a thread before my surgery to find out what I could, about the procedure, but didn't have much luck.

When I was having the procedure done, I asked my Surgeon if many women do this and he said that it isn't common because women really don't want any more surgery, and that I was the first he had done, without general anesthesia.

I used Erica's site to familiarize myself with what I would look like after a Mx, and for other information, so when I found that Erica was getting lots of requests about Dog Ear revision, but had little info, and no pictures of the procedure and the results, I offered to send mine.

Erica does a  fantastic job, keeping that website going and updated with information. I was so grateful to her and the women who had allowed those pictures to be put out there, for those of us coming after them.

Vintage, your description made me smile! It will morph and change over the next few months till it fades and the swelling subsides. M x

Hey girl:  You look great!  Perfect symmetry.  The dog ears are always the hot spot for pain, post surgery and for me, post radiation.  My dog ear reduced dramatically about six weeks post surgery.  Thank you for posting your picture. Drains are the worst, but looking back, it seemed like it was such a brief time.  When you are in it, it seems forever.  Everything just keeps getting better.

Thanks Ariom! I hadn't realized what you were really dealing with. My little pucker wouldn't count as even a puppy ear. I love your hair! That's the kind of hair I want when I lose this dirty blonde.

Wondering how jsj is doing at the pre-op. I think I actually felt much better after having that pre-op, it made me feel confident that they were all on the same page.

Looking forward to hearing about it tonight. M x

    Hi TB and Lojo.

TB, I had no idea that article was going to be used anywhere else. It was printed here in our Spring edition of the Amoena Life Magazine. I wrote it 4 months after my surgery, and I am now over 15 months out.

Thanks Lojo! it is really easy hair to look after, no coloring needed and I like to keep it short!

I kind of knew it was hard for anyone to understand, just how big this Dog Ear was, without actually seeing it. My idea of large, is not the same as someone elses idea of large, etc! As gross as the pics are, you can see what a big difference there is now.

I am sorry to I didn't get back sooner, kind of a crazy eavening at Herman's Hut... pre op went relatively smooth. Took a pint of blood, a few xrays, met the most darling little gay boy who checked me in. He was so excited to be turning 21 and getting to go to all the clubs in Dallas. Lol... wouldn't he have been surprised if I had told him I had been to a few of them with my in laws back in the day BDS (before dear son). Thank you all for being with me and keeping me calm, cool and collected through it all. I will try to catch up on everyone tomorrow, but know you all are close to my heart and I love each of you. Sweet dreams!

Morning all, just on my way out to visit my friend who isn't doing very well. It is raining and there is a chill in the air today.

Bobo, I don't think you want to know what kind of sandwiches, but they all had my 6 blend lettuce, Basil, and home grown tomatoes, with Garlic Aioli done in the Mighty Vitamix!!!! I love that machine. Lots of soup has been consumed here recently. I love it when I think "Uggggh, what are we having for dinner?" less than 10 minutes later, hot soup!

    In the bag for RR!

    Chat later....M x

M~ hope your friend is feeling better. It was a windy but beautiful day here. We got up to 88! Cooked hot dogs on the grill and made french fries for the first time of the season on my rocket stove that Sailman made us a couple of years ago. He used some old bricks that were behind our shed. If you have never seen one... they are really amazing. The burn on just sticks... and get Hot! They make them out of clay and dirt bricks in 3rd world countries to give them something to cook on. Sailman learned of them from a you tube video that missionaries had posted. Fascinating!

Hope you all are well and have you close to my heart. Be blessed sweet sisters.

Hi js! I just had a look at the Rocket Stove, very interesting, I had never seen or heard of it before. That man of yours is something!

My friend is not doing well, her Oncologist has offered a place in a trial in Melbourne, but she doesn't feel she is up to all that travel, it is over 300km each way. I don't know what she will do.

I hope you are feeling good, I am thinking about you! M x

I spent most of the day in ER. My abdominal cramps are still strong after a week, keep me up at night, and MO said to go to ER to get an ultrasound. They did bloodwork and said all numbers are normal, so it must be the bowel that is irritated/cramping because of the antibiotic. They said scans/ultrasound won't show anything for the bowel, so they did not recommend doing a scan also considering that I've had many in recent months (our new normal!). They told me to stop taking the antibiotic and give it a few days. I'm glad that it's likely nothing serious, but I'm still in pain. Constantly. Tylenol doesn't help. I hope stopping the stupid antibiotic (NEVER take biaxin) will help everything quickly. I'm fed up of not being functional and not sleeping. Rant over.

Hi to everyone!  RRose, I hope you're recuperating well from surgery!  M, sorry about your friend, she will definitely benefit from your support in the coming months.

Hi otceb, I am so sorry to hear that you've been feeling so bad. Those antibiotics just take out everything in your gut, both good and bad. Do you take pro biotics?

I had a wonderful Naturopath who got me onto good bacteria many years ago when I was having a chemo drug for my RA and it was messing with my gut. Then a few years ago I was in Hospital in Singapore with a super-bug which meant mega antibiotics by mouth and by IV and the Hospital gave me Pro Biotics every morning to help counteract the effect of bad stomach. I still have them every day. It may be worth investigating.

It is terribly quiet here today, I hope everyone is ok....M x
