now I might not get the dog to train. ....and hopefully keep. My brother goes back to teaching next month. Don't know how in the world he thinks mom is going to take care of a puppy. Ahhhhhhh. She even forgets she lets it out. It will freeze with our Chicago winters...don't know what to do. If only everyone had a brain....that works of cours

Susan - Is your Mother/Brother close to where you live? If so maybe you could convince them that you babysitting daily would be a good idea and when they see how much better it is without having to deal with her, they'll agree to let you keep her. Just a thought.

Susan, what a mess to deal with while you are having chemo. I'm afraid that untrained dog will end up in a shelter when the behavior becomes unmanageable.

wish it was that simple. I am an hour away. Still work part time. Daughter and granddaughter are an hour away the other direction. And out of commission once a week for chemo. My brother and I really don't get along that well. It's sad all around. Mom needs a care taker, I have no say, all power and control is with my brother. I have no legal say over anything. This poor dog will suffer at their hands and I can't convince them otherwise. I am sure I could call on them....but what can of worms will that open......hoping he changes his mind . He hates his job and suffers from clinical depression, along with having a narcisisic personality disorder. I need to reach him on a bad day when the dog is driving him crazy. Hope that's soon, and hope it works.

Oh Susan, I hope so too. Those Narcissistic people are sooooo frustrating. Keeping the situation in prayer.

I hope you can get the pup out of there too. I worked at our local humane shelter for 15 years, and some of the saddest rescue cases we saw were pets owned by elderly people with memory issues, and by people suffering from untreated mental illness or addiction.

My own Mikey came from a home where the owner suffered from severe depression, compounded with self-medication by alcohol. The house he lived in was horrible - filthy food and water bowls, dog and cat waste all over the floor (the poor animals had no choice), along with trash, dirty clothes, rotting food, covering every surface. There were two dogs and a cat living like that with her. The owner wasn't a bad person (she was an old friend I'd lost touch with), but between her illness and the alcoholism, everything just got away from her. We managed to get the animals out of there and placed in homes, and after many struggles, my friend was finally able to get the treatment she needed. She's been sober for over a year now, and is putting her life back together. But Mikey and the other animals sure paid a terrible price having to live that way for so many years.

Dozer actually was rescued by a woman with ALS who said the owners had him chained and was starving him. She nursed him back to health and then put out a call for a good home because her disease was worse and she couldn't take care of him and her service dog.

I just met a new friend that is from my gaming guild. She spent 4 days with us. We were like 2 peas in a pod.. Had so much in common and she loved Dozer. Since she left weds. Dozer has been moping.

It's hard to say "no" to him... Lays either on the loveseat by my desk or under my chair while DH is out.

    Dozier is a cute doggie.

Here's my S'more meeting a chow puppy. The puppy looked like a walking Teddybear.

S'more liked him and was sad when we parted.

    Sweet puppy dreams everyone!

yeah jazz it is. She got matted. So hadto go real short. Her head is to small for her body..lol. Usually she has a nice " bob" for her head. Not anymore :). But I bet she feels great. It's so hot.

Susan - Thankfully dogs aren't aware of their looks like we are, so they're happy as long as they have food, toys and their loving hooman (human).

Sleepless in Arizona - that's me with my new pup. Other than a bout of the big D which thankfully has subsided with treatment he is a very easy going pup, loves, water, cuddles, toys, people and a his dog cousins. He is only 10 weeks old so is house bound until he has core vaccines on board. He is known as a Euro or Moyen or Klein Poodle, a bit smaller than a standard. Due to my lung condition I do not breath well surrounded by regular dog hair. He is a really sweet boy that I plan to train as a therapy dog of course house manners and sleeping all night imagecome first!

this little girl has amazing control. She has learned to poop and pee in house only. So I have had her either out or in her crate I bought all day. Don't think I have ever spent this much time in my backyard, and I love to garden!! She is holding it to go in the house. Not her fault, she thinks that is what she is supposed to do. Finally I got her to poop outside. Held it for 8 hours. Good to know she has such control.lol. Peeing right away outside. So, No accidents so far.
