Susan - Your Shelby reminds me of my dog Lady Bug. She looked very much like Shelby and when I groomed her, I'd put red ribbons w/ white polka dots on the hair above her ears.

Dogs are really our best pals .. aren't they.. I kinda wish Dozer was a bit smaller as he snuggles with me at night. Kind of concerned though - the last few nights he has been putting his head just under my breast when I sleep on my left side - which means he does it to my bc breast side ... My Tigger dog did that just before they found the cancer. ... Enough said.....

Gma: May he just be listening to your heart beat for comfort although I hear your concern.

In our house, S'more is allowed freedom of the downstairs (hardwood floors), but upstairs (w/w carpeted bedrooms) is blocked by a gate.

As I was drifting off to sleep, I could hear his dog tags jiggling. S'more got upstairs and left a smelly present for us! Bad doggie!!

Momin: Based on your story. I just had to share this from the drinking thread Too funny, although could be good to distress after cleanup!!!

magiclight, thanks for the recipe, it looks delish!

Hubby was so mad, he kept yelling at S'more this morning. I found that very annoying since 1. I did the smelly clean-up last night and 2. since it was 8 hours later, S'more had no idea why hubby was mad at him.

I spent the morning cleaning the rug cleaner, as it was left in the basement too long and was filthy. (I was tempted to toss the rug cleaner and buy a new one, except for $$$). Then I spent the afternoon finding cleaning solution to go into the rug cleaner. Now I just need hubby to take the spanking-clean rug cleaner with the brand-new container of cleaning solution and finish off the rug. As noted, I already did the smelly part.

Mominator: I think I've heard many other stories just like the one you describe with the cleaning and the screaming. You and your dog needs some comfort today.

Hubby took some time yesterday to use the rug cleaner on the smelly spot. I watched so I know how to use the rug cleaner.

All is forgiven and forgotten today.

I'm happy, and a wee bit jealous, to see kitty pictures on our Comfort Dogs thread. We had cats as I was growing up, but now I have cat allergies.

At least I can snuggle my little puppy, S'more, all I want. He's four now, but he's only 20 pounds so he looks a like puppy.

Hubby said tome last night that we need to get Princess something special for her birthday. Told him we had to make it fair and get Jackson something too, even if it isn't his birthday

Stella is too cute! She has a nice tail...my late Tiffy had such a tight corkscrew tail and it was hard to clean.

My S'more inspecting an afghan I just finished. He wasn't sure if he was allowed to go on it. He wasn't, but it was the easiest place for me to photograph. My arms are too short to photograph it on my bed. Besides, I couldn't resist that face.

I'm having problems with Dozer - I need suggestions - In the middle of the night something starts crawling on the outside roof. He starts barking and going crazy. This happens about 3 or 4 times a night. He does sleep with us so it is getting to be troublesome. We tried to kick him out of our room but he whines at the door. He wasn't crate trained but wondering if it is too late to crate train him? Would a thunder jacket help?

Mominator Lovely afghan. I think you need to make one just for S'more.

Gma: How old is Dozer? Older dogs can be crate trained but it takes a LOT of time and patience. You have to start slowly, get him used to it. Put treats in there and toys and let him go in and out as he chooses, then try closing the door. He won't like it at first if he's been used to having the run of the home. I'm not an expert...there are resources on line that can help you w/crate training.

We fostered an older Bulldog (she was 8, elderly for a Bulldog) years ago, and she HATED being in a crate...bark, bark, bark, bark, bark! We would put her in when we went out because she had incontinence issues. Toys and treats didn't do the trick either.

    Good luck!

Dozer is around 5 years old - I have to physically wrap an arm around him when the critter on the roof comes. I rubbed his head half the night to calm him before the barking started. But doing that is making for a long night. Might try to get one of those calming (thunder) jackets for him. It would be worth it if it helps. We also had thunder and lightning the other night, which he reacts to too.

Gma: I find all training methods take lots of time to change a behavior and if you are exhausted from lack of sleep it must be frustrating. Any ideas about preventing the critter from crawling on the roof?

These suggestions are from the humane society: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/fear_thunder_loud_noises.html

Fear of thunder and other loud noises

Do not attempt to reassure your dog when she is afraid. This may only reinforce her fearful behavior. If you pet, soothe, or give treats to her when she's behaving fearfully, she may interpret this as a reward for her fearful behavior. Instead, try to behave normally, as if you don't notice her fearfulness.Do not put your dog in a crate to prevent her from being destructive during a thunderstorm. She'll still be fearful when she's in the crate and is likely to injure herself, perhaps even severely, while attempting to get out of the crate.Do not punish your dog for being afraid. Punishment will only make her more fearful.

Rough couple of days on Xeloda with lots of diarrhea and fatigue. We got our first rain today, so I didn't mind staying home and sitting in the La-Z-Boy. The thing that sucks about fatigue is even when you close your eyes, you can't seem to get any sleep. Good thing I have my Sofia to cheer me up.

She was sitting by DH's leg. Sofia really loves her daddy!
