Hi All- So happy to have found this group. My husband and I are moving to Georgetown at the end of May. We decided to relocate from San Diego for a variety of reasons and after signing a contract on a new home I got my cancer diagnosis. I had stage 1 ILC/LCIS with no lymph node involvement. Had a lumpectomy March 18 and am 1/2 way through radiation. This has certainly thrown a wrench into our plans. DH will drive down with our dogs while I stay here to finish the final days of treatment. I’m flying down on May 25. I am anxious to connect with other bc survivors in the area. I’m glad to read such positive comments about Texas Oncology as I will need a MO for follow up. Looking forward to our new life there. DH is from West Texas so this move puts us in familiar territory.

Hon21211, welcome to Texas ( when you are able to get here)! We moved from San Luis Obispo county to Hill Country 8 years ago. Hope you can make our next get together. Looking forward to meeting you.

    Hi -

Welcome to the group! We try to get together every couple of months. Most of us live north, close to Georgetown, but we are respectful of our friends in other areas and try to vary our get together locations. June is Gruene (pronounced green). Come with us! I will be happy to give you a ride. Gruene is a very unique fun place. I suspect we will have lunch, then tool around the cool shops. I need to hit one of the wineries and pick up some local wine before heading home - dont worry, I wont do any tasting (their peach chardonnay is great, and I'm not a fruity wine person). Plus it seems we have similar diagnosis. I am on year 6 and doing well. I also go to TX oncology. Love Dr. Kocs. Straight shooter, compassionate, and he listens! Plus he has a kick butt nurse who pushes to get test results early. She was key in keeping all my docs talking to each other in the early stages when everything was so crazy and scary. Invaluable!! PM if you need to vent or have questions.

    Welcome Amy!

I think you will love Georgetown. I lived there from 1983 until 2003. It has changed a lot since then! I also go to TX Onc. Dr. Goorebeeck is my MO. I hope you can join the group next month in Gruene!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers' day!

    Take care,

    Terri

Not certain which date in June is under consideration, but June 15 - 16 will be Olde Gruene Market Days with a variety of crafts on display and for sale. Could be seen as all that many more things to shop for, or as adding to the turmoil! If any assistance is needed in making lunch reservations, please let me know since I' m local for this one.

    Hi all!

Hon, welcome! Sorry you had to join the club, but we are glad you found us.

Cindy is headed to Denver on the 22nd, so can't meet us.

Beverntx- that's Father's Day wknd, so I was thinking that might not work for a few of us.

*****However, if it is more convenient for everyone, speak now!

If not, we'll keep it on the 23rd.

Here are a couple of choices for places to eat, but if you have a suggestion, please chime in:

    http://thebuttermilkcafe.com/breakfast/

    https://www.krausescafe.com/menu/

I think we went to Buttermilk once, and it was fantastic. Krause's is an old standard that was revamped with new owners a few years ago- still great. The other 2 I've not been to, but they look pretty good.

Carpooling? My ac is out, so I wouldn't be sad to let someone else drive, and happy to get gas for you!

time? some places stop serving breakfast items at 11, so I think 1030 would be a good time?

Let me know what you think!

    edit: here's a good listing

Yeah, market days were on Easter weekend this year, too!

Re restaurants: have not been to Los Gallos; Los Fontanas and Adobe Cafe are two of my favorite tex-mex local places.

Buttermilk is good and, as a result is very busy on Sundays so reservations for a group would be advisable. Of your list, the closest physically to Gruene.

Krauses is a beer garden, food menu focuses on German cuisine. Can be loud and challenging to carry on a conversation. Great choice for beer lovers. it's that I raised will not split checks for parties of 8 or more.

Haven't been to fork and spoon but have heard good things about it.

Don't think serving times for breakfast would be a concern at any of these but arriving no later than 11:00 to 11:30 would be best to get in before the after church crowds. Also, it is summer recreation time in N B so making reservations, if possible, would be advisable.

If gas fill ups are needed, currently the HEB station on FM306 and I35 has the best price in town ( and that is the exit for Gruene).I

Let me know how I can help.

    Hi all,

The restaurant does not matter to me...it looks like there are some good recommendations posted.

Jen', I can drive if you need a ride....or, anyone else. I have room for 4-5 total. I may not linger too long after, if anyone plans to shop. Not a fan of the heat and humidity.

    Looking forward to seeing everyone!:)

OKAY- gonna make an executive decision and say 11 at Buttermilk. Please comment to let me know ASAP if you are joining us and haven't verified yet, so I can let them know how many in the party and make sure we all have a seat-

I know Terri and Beverntx shout be a yes?- and yes, I'd love to ride with you. I'd just like to hit the wine shop and take a quick gander in the antique mall if you are okay with that.

    Vivki- still going?

    Hon21211, Fi_broon, Bluepoet, and ann273?

    anyone else?

I'll be there as close to 11 as I can--church is at 10 and a special Americana Gospel service. I should be able to slip out a few minutes early.

hi ladies. I need some advice. After 5 yrs 10 months from lymph node biopsy and breast surgery, I a have finally succumbed to lymphedema. The physical therapist can't see me until 8/27. Meanwhile I am miserable. On bad days, my left arm from elbow down looks like a chicken leg. Taking a detox bath as I type cuz it seemed to help last weekend. Any wisdom you can share?

vbishop - if you haven't seen the StepUp site on the link below, it has a wealth of information. It was developed with the input of several BCO women. There should be tips to get you through the next couple of weeks, but it would be great if you can get in sooner. Do make sure that your PT is LE trained.

thanks . She is a lymphedema specialist, hence the long wait time.

Thanks for all the advice I've received to help with my lymphedema. Special thanks to our "Nurturer in Chief", Jen, for reaching out and providing links and videos that are very helpful and informative. I see lifelong exercise routines just for this issue in my future. Somebody at work also recommended that I try lymphatic drainage massage. I found a guy in Round Rock that is amazing! I felt better at the end of my first session and saw results the morning after. I couldn't even see my knuckles before the massage, saw some relief immediately, but all swelling in my hand was gone the following morning, never to return ....so far. I had a second session 4 days later and now I can comfortably bend my arm, and the swelling overall is greatly reduced. I have one more session tomorrow in front of my PT session. All I can say is this stuff works, my massage therapist is a gem, and I will continue to see him as the need arises ... even for just a relaxing massage. PM me if this is something you'd like to try and I'll provide his contact info. Note: this therapy may not be for everyone as you should not have on any undergarments. That being said, my guy is very respectful of his patient and the body, with patient comfort level a top priority. I have no concerns about recommending him to anyone. He has several BC patients.

Okay- Candy will be in town September 17-23rd, so either that Saturday or Sunday, and I am thinking about heading to the Killeen area since she's there and we've not been there yet?

    Hi Ladies -

I wanted to let you know I have joined the Metastatic Breast Cancer club. I was officially diagnosed after three weeks of tests, scans, biopsies, on Friday October 4, starting my first dose of chemo on Friday, October 11.

I reached out to Jen , cuz , well, it's Jen! She has been very helpful with tips, what to expect, etc. I am better prepared for the road ahead because of her.

I started a blog cuz it is therapeutic for me and keeps everyone up to date. In case you are interested:
