Gracie, do you have a GI specialist who can check you for blocked bile duct with a ultrasound? This seems like a quicker way to find out. He will be the one inserting a stent, if the US shows something.

My GI dr takes care of these kind of problems and sends a note to my MO. I have stomach ulcer and other issues that he closely follows. When I was diagnosed with liver mets and started having upper abdominal pain, he sent me for an abdominal ultra sound to rule out blocked bile ducts. I got the report on the same day (negative).

Hopefully you will find answers quickly. Keep us posted.

Got a little bit of an answer. I have a whole lot more cancer in my live, it’s spreading like wildfire. I asked the nurse if I was in liver failure and she wouldn’t answer me just said to wait what the doctor says in the morning. Am very upset because I may be out of the game in two short years!!! This sucks!!!

Gracie: I am so sorry. That sounds very scary. I hope the doctors will have better news and more options for you in the morning. I know that many here are thinking of you and hoping for all the best.

Gracie, thinking of you tonight. I hope that the cause of the bilirubin is a blocked duct and that you will gain relief with a stent or other procedure. The liver only needs 10% of itself to function. A liver full of tumors is scary but can reverse itself. I came back from 70% of my liver being mets 3 years ago. Xeloda was the hero in that one. Now, my liver may be about 10-15% mets and goes up and down with my various progressions/regressions. When the tumors are removed, the liver tissue regenerates itself too. The liver is a power house organ and is pretty amazing. If you can get past this current dilemma, you can look into Y90. I feel like it bought me a good chunk of time in overall survival as far as my liver mets are concerned.

JFL, my onc has already said no local treatments for the liver because my tumor load is too great. He wouldn’t even talk to me about it. I’m on Xeloda now, four months. It’s evidently not done anything and I’m scared to death they will tell me the liver won’t witjstand any further chemo. This is almost exactly how my mom died and it scares the hell outta je

Gracie. I am happy you will get answers today. It appears you were not hospitalized, and you are seeing your MO as an outpatient. I consider thst a positive sign!

Maybe your MO can investigate to see if your cancer hormonal status has changed with a liquid or solid bx. Your liver might not tolerate a tumor bx at this time, so a liquid bx could be good alternative.

Your MO will have the knowledge to get your liver/gall bladder stable..then will go from there to receive treatments to kill those bad guys.

I wish I were there to hold your hand and help you through this. I know it is difficult to face this alone. We are here for you. Let your faith give you strength.

Gracie What type of scan did they do to determine your liver mets are growing so fast? I'm praying for you today as you talk to your MO. Hoping for some relief for you.💞

Dear Gracie, I am so sorry you are in this situation. My liver is full of tumors as well and I have acities now, so I know how hard it is.

I can't tell if you have tried Verzenio, but I did have some tumor regression with it and it bought me about nine months. I'm currently on Afinitor/Aromasin and hoping for similar results. Don't give up, and don't let your onc give up on you! There are other treatments besides chemo that should be tried if you haven't already. We are here for you!

Gracie, I am a praying person and I will pray for you as well - for stabilized bilirubin, and then for an effective treatment.

Did I read that carboplatin can be used even if the liver can’t handle other chemos?

Gracie...you are in my thoughts and prayers.

ShetlandPony...I’ve seen the same about Carboplatin. I believe Cisplatin can also be used when the liver can’t handle other chemos too.

    hi All,

Recently diagnosed with bone Met to T11/12 on my spine (left ),but of late been having pain on the right upper back, honestly stressing cause I’m thinking it my liver..I had a CT scan a month back whichever picked up the spinal met, everything else was “clear” but what is this pain now😭😭😭

Gracie. We need an update, please.

Faith. Pain from liver mets can be felt in that area but if the CT did not show any liver mets, then that is not the cause of the pain. Do you have pain from T 11/12? Where do you feel that pain? Bone mets can press on nerves, nerve pain can be in a different place than the mets.

Liverfailure. I will have scans next week and we’ll talk about hospice. There is just the slightest chance it’s from the xeloda

Gracie, I am sorry to hear that it is liver failure. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that scans will reveal some news that will offer some hope. Is your family with you? If not, are they planning to come? I don't like to think that you are going through all this alone. If the situation is from xeloda, is it possible that it might be reversed? Are you considering a second opinion? I am sorry for all these questions. You probably don’t feel like answering them, and it is okay if you don’t answer. I will continue to lift you up in prayer.

    Hugs and prayers from, Lynne
