Wasn't due for my annual mammogram for four months. The wire of my bra was hurting me. I actually changed bra until I realized that it wasn't the bra...it was me!

keywestfan, I found my lump after a recent clear mammogram. It was 2.4 centimeters and should have been picked up by the mammogram. IMHO, mammograms are only as good as the person who reads them. According to the American Cancer Society, 20% of mammograms fail to pick up cancer. Self exams are still absolutely necessary.

Of course, 80% of cancers are found by mammograms.

I was 63 when diagnosed. No lump felt, but was overdue for my routine mammogram.

Same here, I found my lump 3 mts after a clear mammogram. It was 2.69 cm but because it was in a dense area could not be seen on regular Mammogram. I now only do 3 D and go to a woman's center for them

    52. Lump found on routine mammogram, literallythe day after my annual GYN visit when she didn't feel it. I hadn't felt it during self exams either, but as soon as the radiologist told me the location, I could easily find it. Two lessons learned: 1) my "concentric circles" self exams were woefully lacking (and I have since found many friends and family members who have been doing similar incomplete exams and shared my experience), and 2) I need a new GYN!

The concentric circle style is not nearly thorough enough in my opinion. One needs to kneed those puppies. :)

I was 40 after having my first mammogram done, nothing showed but when I went into the ED for chest pains the tumor appeared on the CT scan.
