Thanks all. No pix yet -- they haven't come home from the hospital. Guess we're lucky they called to tell us! Soon, soon.

Mom is recovering from a C-section but otherwise fine. She had one last time too. This time she went into labor and they let her try, but in the end had to do the cut. She's a tiny woman. Lucy is good sized -- 6 1/2 pounds.
We go to visit the weekend before Christmas. It'll be chaos but a lot of fun. They're extremely easy-going parents who don't worry about much (which includes schedule).

Hi Ladies,
Not sure if there is a Faslodex 2015 thread so thought I'd join this wonderful group. Femara failed me so on to the next. I'll catch up on this thread and will look for tips for making life easier and more pleasant before during and after the monthly shots. My first is next Wednesday October 28th followed by one 2 weeks later, then monthly. My hot flashes on Femara reduced greatly after 1 year then about 3 months started up again...yikes. Now I'm sure I'll continue to the pattern until I settle in again. Not sure if hot flashes means something but they sure can be miserable. At least I can cool off by stepping outdoors this winter.
Anyway - hello! I hope you are doing well and got to NED quickly.

Hi Amy -
Welcome to Faslodex - I've been on it since January and it has been wonderful for me - last week's CEA was .7 - it was 7.8 in January so it's working for me at least - I do have "flashes" but not too often - my only problems have been exhaustion for the first week or so and a lower than normal B-12 probably because I don't eat much meat and should probably eat a steak once in a while - or more dark leafy veg (which I actually eat lots of) - having a nurse that is good with the shots and following the suggestions at the beginning of this thread make things really easy. Hugs, S.

Hi all
I have been slowly reading through this thread as I see Friday if my MO will. move me to faslodex due to recent progression. I am a bit needle phobic so wonder why faslodex cant just be added to zometta infusion. I guess it must be given IM for some reason.

Hi 3-16-2011 and AmyQ, welcome!
3-16-2011, the reason the drug is given as a shot is because the drug is dissolved in -- get this -- castor oil! You wouldn't want that in a vein. It's also the reason walking after the dose is recommended. Get that oil moving through the muscle.

wow, thanks. Castor oil? Yeah I guess I dont want that in a vein.

I just had my third Falsodex treatment after having 16 rads on a small bone met in my hip. I had my ca27.29 done and it jumped four points from September. It is now 57. My doc is not concerned but I am. My bone biopsy was 5% ER+, my original cancer was 17 years ago. Anybody help me with this? I am scared I don't have much time left.

lisajo, your CA27-29 is still relatively low, and many would interpret a 4 pt. change in either direction as stable.
As far as the 5% positive ER, I've recently read that it can vary from place to place within our bodies, so chances are it might have been higher if biopsied elsewhere. There's no way to tell. But even 5% gives Faslodex something to work on.
And the fact that your bc didn't come back for 17 years, seems to indicate that it's very slow growing. So, all in all, I don't see any reason to feel pessimistic, especially after just 2 mos. on a med that many women do very well with for a very long time! (((Hugs))) Deanna

Wow castor oil, huh? I did not know that about my Faslodex shot. I get my next one next Monday after I see my onc.

Looking forward to my first half dose of Faslodex (not really) on Wednesday but I do hope it does the trick and gets me back to NED. I've read all the tips and hope my nurse already follows the recommended protocol so it's not too painful.
cjanet will next Monday be your first shot?

AmyQ- no it's my 4th shot I think!

AmyQ....I'm a Wednesday gal too. This will be my 2nd set of injections so I'm one step ahead of you. I had some injection site pain but it wasn't awful. So far no other SE's!! I'll be getting my injections at a different clinic on Wednesday and will definitely be asking the nurses to go slow. Hoping Faslodex gets me back to dancing with NED!

I'm a Wednesday gal, too. Getting mine this week. I've already lost track of which one it is, but I started the first week of August, so I guess going into my 4th full month. Never thought I'd say I'm looking forward to shots, but so far I feel like it's doing good things for me.

Happy injections all! [I am also a Wednesday person, but it's 9 days from now, not two]

Wonder what it is about Wednesday? I'm happy you all seem to be managing pretty well with Faslodex. Frankly, I'm scared to death of hot flashes or nausea. But I'm more afraid of not doing everything in my power to get back to NED. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Hi Amy!
Welcome to the fanny pack. Hope Fas has you dancing with Ned again soon. The shots take a little getting used to, but if you have nausea or bad hot flashes there are meds that can help. Let us know how it goes.
I have always meant to ask, are you in the twin cities area? I grew up in Mpls. and now live 2 hours east.
Sending you positive thoughts for tomorrow.

OhMyDarlin, Good luck to you too on round 2. Slow is good. Hope you're 2 stepping with NED again soon.
Pam, Did you get your Skype with Andalucía? I just love that name. Too bad Skype can't include that new baby smell!
0 -
I did! Last week we met her via Skype. She looks like any other newborn, but is pretty alert. No hair, big brown eyes. Her 2 year old brother, Sebastian, seems to think she's OK. Parents are pretty relaxed, mostly because they've done this before.
Sebi calls his sister Lulu. I think they introduced her as Lucy, but he can't or didn't want to pronounce 'Lucy'. So Lulu it is, at least for a while. (He calls himself Ebi! Always with the exclamation point)
AmyQ, you may never feel a lick of nausea (I don't), or any hot flashes. Only 70% of women get hot flashes with this drug. Someone has to be in the 30%! I hope it knocks those little buggers right out! Dn't anticipate. I'm told that if you think you'll have a side-effect you're much more likely to get it.

jobur, I've been in the Twin Cities all my life. In fact, I currently live about 2 miles from where I grew up...pathetic. So much for moving away from home.
Pajim, I hope you're right and I have no SE at all - it can't hurt to be optimistic can it? Thanks Fanny Pack Ladies. I feel very at home here.
