I have photos of my kids in dress up outfits and our brand new dog with a background of bluebonnets. The Hill Country is stupendous when they're blooming. Thanks for posting.

I went to TX in the DFW area in the 1980s and used to go on the weekends when I lived there out into the country to see the bluebonnet meadows every April. It is hard to describe to people, beautiful blue carpet of flowers like nothing else you have ever seen!

Two hobbies- the flower is a purple pin cushion.

I actually got buzzed by a real hummingbird today. First time I have seen one, they are early this year. I put out the feeder.

TwoHobbies, don't you just love when the daffodils bloom? They are so cheerful. We also have hyacinths that are now blooming. They're right by the front porch and I can smell the perfume when the door is open.

I have my hummingbird feeder out and am awaiting their arrival. I think I'm hearing them, but no sightings yet. They are expected in this part of PA by mid-April.

I was lucky enough to go to Washington DC during the peak cherry blossoms last week. Here are a couple pics:

kiki- I have always wanted to see cherry blossoms bloom in DC. Even though my last two trips to DC were in April the cherry blossoms had finished. Your pictures are beautiful. Thank you for sharing

Kiki- those pics are beautiful. I saw the cherry blossoms one year back in the 1990's, when I happened to be there to present for a conference. Thanks for sharing!

Kiki, beautifull cherry blossoms!! I was lucky enough to be there for cherry blooming once too... My only trip to the US 🙂

My garden is showing the first spring flowers, but we have a very cold weather right now. I think we will wait about a month to see cherries in bloom.

I love all the beautiful flower and bird pictures...so hopeful for spring...

This beauty is from Breck's. I ordered many tulip bulbs from them and could get less than 10 in the ground due to exhaustion last fall. These all popped up and opened in the past week. They are gorgeous in comparison to those from Lowe's... Hoping I can get more in the ground this fall...

Melissa - my mother so loved those bluebonnets. She was born in Temple, Texas and my sister and one brother and I were born in Fort Worth, Texas. We moved to Louisiana when I was a baby. I live in Tennessee now. Every trip we made back to Texas to see my grandparents my mother made my dad stop on the highway so she could pick those flowers. She even had a beautiful framed picture of bluebonnets. They are gorgeous!

My BIL and Sis and I were stewing on how to get my garden out of the swamp. Neighbor came by, and we decided how to do it. I will have to call the property manager tomorrow and get her OK.

I have a narrow garden because of mobility issues (even pre-Taxol), one end is mint with a piece of siding to keep it in control. The rest of the garden is wet--Tom pointed out how the water from higher areas drains into it, and he was proposing a 2x4 to block the drainage. He didn't think my neighbor's idea of putting a ditch in the middle to hold the drainage would work. Neighbor came by and it became a 4-way discussion. We decided to put grass seed on the regular garden, and put in a new garden on the other side of the mint garden.

He will do the work, so that won't be a problem. It might even be good news for the guys who mow, who were complaining about the narrow strip between the two gardens.

Gumdoctor- aren't those tulips pretty. Lovely color of pink!

Teka- yay for crocuses. What blooms next?

Been continuing to work on yard clean up and pruning. More to go the next few weekends, but good progress so far. We got a cold snap and thus, keeping things carefully covered. My new perennials I have been accumulating are not quite ready to go in to the ground yet. We got a cold snap the past few days, and I woke up to temps in the low 20s today. After this week, we should be past major frost risk.

Loving everyone’s signs of spring! I’ve already got seedlings going, got brave and stuck a few pole beans in the garden, we’ll see if they make it! Trying to harden off my broccoli sprouts a bit more. First time I’ve grown them from my own seed harvest. Success!

Some pics from the front yard- image

The yellow ones look like teeny little daffodils. I think they’re called jonquils? They make me smile! And the hyacinths smell so nice!

Looking forward to getting the gardens ready and trying some new stuff.

All the recent spring garden and wildlife photos are wonderful! I am enjoying them 😊

CPeachy, our front yards look very similar right now. Lots of hyacinths and a variety of daffodils, including those cute little mini ones. Our tulips just opened too.

Regarding the DC cherry blossoms, I followed the Park Service's "cherry blossom watch" that predicts when the blossoms will be at their peak. Luckily I live close enough that we could head down there at the perfect time. It's very hard to hit it right if you have to plan long-distance travel. It really was a treat to see them 🌸

The main street at the end of my block has cherry trees planted on both sides for about 6 blocks. Really pretty right now. They are the kind that has bunches of flowers together.

Monty Don just did a two part series about Japanese gardens and was in Japan for the cherry blossom festival. The camera work is amazing and also he really explains what it means to the people.

I have a bevy of quail that has been visiting my back yard/gardens. I am thinking they may be looking for a place to nest. Pick me, pick me!

Just returned to apt after digging dandelions and grass out of my mint patch. Got permission from property management to move my garden to the east, where the ground is higher. My BIL has promised to plow it up for me. Management may install a frame and some dirt to further prevent it from flooding and make gardening easier for me.
