Hi ladies- that bloom was a geranium that just came back to life along with a few other things in the pot with the cooler weather and rain. I looked over while on the patio a few days ago and saw the way the sun was shining on that bloom and grabbed the phone to snap that picture. It came out far better than I could have expected!

Thank you for the kind words!

Nice pot Lucy! I am a fan of plants in pots!

Thanks for all the lovely images of your beautiful gardens. Arizona sun and new puppy keep me from adding any new flowers so I deeply appreciate vicariously enjoying your gardens.

Summer is coming to an end here, this is one of my favourite arrangements. We have had a lot of rain this year and I noticed the slugs are eating my tomatoes, time to put out some beer.image

jazzy I am not a beer drinker, does anyone remember drinking it with tomato juice? I always liked that. The beer is now in a dish in the garden, hopefully it will do the trick. I just picked a big container of green tomatoes and have twice as many on the vines. My daughters friend has an Italian restaurant, I think I will be donating to them. They also stuff zucchini flowers and she took some a couple of years ago, we had some at their restaurant last week, very good.

Lucy I have never heard of a plover, what family does it belong to. Don't you just love it when wildlife takes over your yard, we used to have swallows dive bomb us

Lucy thats my first introduction to the plover. So interesting to see the different plants and animals you have.

Teka we planted morning glories about 6 years ago and every summer I have to pull up 7 or 8 plants-still! they are so hardy. We liked them but they were strangling another plant.

    Gorgeous planter, Lookforward.

My mother's eyes were the color of Heavenly Blue morning glories. My great-grandmother and I used to plant them in her memory every Spring.

We have the bindweed here, which has white flowers and a root in China somewhere. Almost impossible to get rid of.

Wren those are my favorite, the heavenly blue. We planted those and purple and only the purple grew. I kind of want to try those again.

    Gardening Ladies,

I've been enjoying all of your wonderful pictures, but haven't a thing to share. I googled various area of the country and see that some of the fall leaves might be turning later this month. I'll bet that some of you have gorgeous color. PLEASE post pictures if you can. I've never been able to travel in the fall and we don't have much color change on the gulf coast.

Thanks to all of you who gave me information on the real gardening catalogs (not on-line) that are still around. Several have come in and I am having so much fun marking pages of things to order.

    Best to everyone!

Two Hobbies, Looking forward to the leaf pics!

Teka, Thank you for showing us the first sign of fall! DH and I were just talking to his parents in South Salem, and they said no color yet in their yard. I do love Mobile, but the leaves on most of our native trees just go from green to browner green and fall off, so fall is pretty dismal. Oh! I just added the incredible heavenly blue and scarlet o'hara morning glories to my Park Seed Catalog list! Unfortunately, our neighbor lost a huge pecan tree, but its loss did give me a great sunny spot for sun loving annuals. I didn't even know that red morning glories existed; the humming birds will love them.

Hoping that everyone is enjoying a little bit of cooler weather!

Thanks for the fall color and pretty morning glory Teka. By the time my 3 maples start to turn, their leaves fall off the next day. We need an early cold snap, which is not likely to happen in hotLanta.

imageThis year I didn't plant my usual "heavenly blue" and tried "flying saucers" instead. The flowers are very cool, each one different, but the overall effect is kind of muted with the white, I might go back to the heavenly blue, although alternating with the flying saucers might be neat. I had to look up the name, which I forgot, at Fedco, where I got the seeds, and noticed that they have a double magenta variety that I might try next year: http://www.fedcoseeds.com/seeds/search?search=morning+glory

Flavia, I would be greedily planting all three morning glories. The magenta ones would look awesome with the blue. I love the tall phlox too. Ours has a cinnamon smell.
