Most likely I will be putting my window boxes up on their holders this weekend. Might even get the chance to clean out the half barrel too

Lucy, we have 3 Rose of Sharon and all 3 are different colors and I think all are double blooms. Ours won't bloom until late July but stay in bloom until late fall. I don't care for them much as the previous owners let them go crazy and I have a hard time keeping the 2 that are at the entrance to our driveway under control. To me they are a hazard as it's hard to see oncoming traffic without getting out into the road to far. I'd like to cut those 2 down but I'm not sure what to replace them with? The one close to the house is now a good sized tree and blocks the view of the pond from our lower patio. I cut that one way back and I'm waiting for DH to cut it down. I'll put in a flower garden there so we can have tons of color with a view of the pond 😍

M0mmy, hopefully you can get your window boxes up and have beautiful flowers in them. I thought about putting a long window box up along our upper bathroom window but it's right over the patio door on the deck. I just picture the mess it'd make watering the flowers and change my mind.

We've been having a small male raccoon hanging out on our deck during the day lately. He doesn't look to good but I'm not sure if that's because he's young or he's sick My DH thinks he just comes early to eat as the bigger raccoons run him off at night. I'll keep an eye on him and if he gets looking any worse I'll have to cage him and turn him over to the Wildlife Conservation team as I can't just put him down myself if he's rabid. Raccoons out during the day are usually sick 😥

WenchLori, I would call the wildlife people and have them pick him up. Don't run any risks with a raccoon who may be sick.

Looks like if the ground dries out my hubby is going to have to break out the lawnmower for the first time this year

A little late tot he welcome wagon, but welcome, Heidibird!

The seeds I planted out a week or so ago are starting to sprout,--just a haze of green--but the nettles and rogue morning glories are (surprise surprise) coming up faster. Much faster. Sigh.

Jazzy, I love your pictures. So pretty!

Teka, your daffodils look so delicate. Very pretty!

M0mmy, I tried to finish mowing our yard yesterday but all I accomplished was killing the lawnmower. It has that hydro transmission on it and the lever keeps coming out so no going anywhere. We had to take it back in for repairs last year for the same thing. DH says not this year and we'll never buy another Troy Built product of any kind. A $2500 investment that is just 2 years old and there's no dealing with the company to get it fixed. Never again!

I put in my order for my summer bulbs this morning. I got some things I don't really need but I do need a change so I took the chance! It's almost winter here today, it's cold and blustery but tomorrow will be Spring again! I'll start planting my straw bales tomorrow afternoon. Yay! It's all conditioned and growing grass so I know it'll grow plants. Crossing fingers and doing a lot of praying that they grow plants! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Welcome Heidi. Enjoying the pics and garden talk. I finally got some signs of spring and it is sooo welcome! I will have plenty to do as usual. Currently comtemplating where to move my heuchera and sum and substance hosta after we took out the tree that gave them some shade last year, and aso what replacement is going in the tree spot. Half the fun is in the planning.

M0mmy, yay! Have you decided what to put in your 1/2 barrel planter?

I'm off to fight this wind and get some Miracle Grow and start the planting process in my bales. I'm excited to get things growing! My tomato and pepper babies are doing great!

Mommy- sounds really nice. Portulacas do really well here, plus I just like pronouncing that word too!

I had to look them up. My Grandma grew them and called them moss roses.

If the temps stay like they have been lately and above the temps for frost or freezing, I may just plant the garden and flowers early this year. Going to keep an eye on the overnight temps for the next couple of weeks.

Mommy- our frost risk ends today (yay) and I always start with planting pots late March to April, so that if it gets cooler, I can cover them. Mostly pansies and the like. The stuff coming back in the gardens is on it's own, no way to cover all that. Fortunately, everything has done just fine so far.

When does frost risk end in your area? I think you have to be close?

Frost or freeze risk ends about mid-May here. I usually wait until about then to get my flowers and veggie plants.

This weekend I will probably start busting up the garden soil as long as there is no rain

Oh goodness. So much to read and catch up on. That will teach me to be away 5 days! LOL I had a lovely visit though with my brother, his wife and my nephew. My sister in law is a master gardener so I worried about her seeing my hodgepodge of plants. But she was kind and the only thing she really mentioned was that she would love to have the fruit tress that I do.

Hi back to Queenmomcat,Teka, and Twohobbies.

Thanks to all who shared the beautiful pictures! They make me smile.

WenchLor what is an African Blackberry? Love the baby geese!

Wren444 there are tons of redbuds in Oklahoma. BGut I am lucky enough to have the bluebonnets too. However the ones here pale in comparison to what we would see along the highways of Texas.

Flaviarose, I am with you on using the straw as mulch. My garden soil is pretty darned good considering I live where the red clay abounds. It sure cuts down on the weeding too. I would rather sit or harvest than weed for sure.

Mommyof2 have you tried making refrigerator pickles? I made some two years ago and used the hot peppers from my garden to spice them up.

Lucy55 I am gently envious of the tropical fruits you can grow. My mouth is watering.

    Jazzy, what vibrant colors!

I got a few of the flowering plants into the ground this weekend but we had some rain (yeah!) Thursday and Friday so the veggie garden itself is still too wet to plant. I am gone several of the evenings during the week so seem to only have the weekends lately to get things done. I tire out so easily and need both those. days. The forecast is calling for more rain this weekend. I won't complain too hard because we have had a lot of drought years and I appreciate any rain we can get. It is nice to look out and still see everything green. Hubby doesn't mind the drought times so much because he doesn't have to cut the grass as often. Geesh

I am excited because my old metal shed is rusting out and I get to look for a replacement. Woohoo. I want a cute wooden building that is much larger so I don't have to stack everything in a mess. I have lots of solar lights and don't always put them all out at once. Plus my older gnomes that need repainting don't get thrown out either. One day when I can maybe retire I will repaint them and set them back outside.

The sun is gorgeous today and I wish I could be out there planting!!

Heidi, I mislabeled my Blackberry plant, I have the giant African watermelon and a Kiowa Giant Blackberry. I planted the watermelons last year and the only giant thing I got was a huge plant I'm not planting them this year lol

Here's a picture of the Kiowa Blackberry. My blackberry bush is loaded this year! Yummy

Wow!! That looks verrrrry delicious! I am imagining just a few (because that's all it would take)in a bowl of cream. Mmmmmmm I had to replant my berries last year as I lost all the others to the drought a few years ago. However, while I have cane growth I have had no blooms at all. :-( Triple Crown did well for me before so I am not sure what is going on.

One of my favorite melons is a Seranade which ends up being crunchy like an apple. I am still downsizing this year as I still tire so easily and did not order any seeds and typically these aren't found in the stores. Next year...more melons!

KB, I ordered mine through Michigan Bulb Co. they are $9.99 a bush right now. I have tons of sprouts that I will probably cut back or remove as I just want the main bush for bigger berries. I'm not sure what I'd do with bigger berries? Eat less? I'd mail you one but not sure how customs would like that? I must say I've never seen such big flowers on a blackberry bush before. I'll have to get a picture when I go out to put up my bird netting in a few days.

If anyone wants me to mail a blackberry sprout let me know. I only got 3 berries last year but they were sooooo sweet!

I put in 4 hours on my straw bale garden today and it kicked my butt! Some critters must be running around on top of the bales as my soaker hose was very askew and it took me an hour to fix it. I added more anchors so it'll be harder for the stinkers to mess with. I won't put out my herbs, tomatos or peppers until the rest of the fence is put up... with gates! I got the first 10 bales planted as well today. I'm bushed sounds like a shower and a nap for me! DH is on his own for dinner tonight hehehee

I have 4 big tubs out to catch any rain we may get. The pink buckets have all my tools in them, it makes it easier for me to carry them. I'm hoping I can get another 10 bales planted tomorrow. I have the soaker hose on but it doesn't look like the potting soil is getting wet? I'll go checkafter my nap.

Jazzy and Two Hobbies. . .love the flowers, especially the purple. Teka kudos on finishing your novel while gardening. I have one partially written from years ago. Someday maybe. . .

Lori, I need those monster berries. I love blackberries. Looking forward to more gosling pics. I have not seen any nesting here this year. I think we will have ducklings soon though.

I think I've worn Dh out on the planting. Already spent more than I should anyway. We replaced the azeleas we had to cut down. First weekend in May we have our local Master Gardner's sale. I get my hostas from them so that will be my last purchase this year

My three fgis are more like 5-foot bushes than trees but are supposed to grow up to about 20 feet tall. It's cold today from all the storm's yesterday but promises to be high 80s for our two outdoor concerns next weekend. HotLanta.
