We're supposed to hit 97 on Saturday. *ugh*
MOmmy I want some of your rain. Watering , while not hard, just seems to take me so much time. DH used to put the little hose in the garden with sprinklers but I have a bad habit of moving the plants around each year and the same hose has holes in spots that aren't necessarily where the plants are this year. Luckily the pepper plants don't need water too much during the week. However anything around the house that I have in pots have to be watered daily.
Your salad looks delicious, Lori. No lettuce planted by me this year as I knew I was leaving in March for a 10 day trip to take my mom to Germany. DH is just a wee bit forgetful if I want him to water for me. Maybe I'll get some planted this fall. The lights looked really cool last night. now I have to figure out where to place them. I would like to put them in my front yard but am always afraid someone will take them. These would be really tempting. Will try to take a picture tonight or tomorrow and post it.

Jazzy, I can see why they call your cactus cow's tongue. What a beautiful shade of yellow in your flowers.
I spotted Mama deer yesterday evening and snapped a picture of her. If she gets any bigger she's going to pop!
This young fella was caught with his hands in the bird feeder. He jumped down and came over for his marshmallow. Silly trash panda!

The yellow blooms remind me of a ballerina's tutu made of tulle.

WenchLori, Trash Panda---perfect name. They will do anything for marshmallows. I was rehabbing some young raccoons and couldn't get them into their travel cage so the could be taken to a release site. Dropping marshmallows in a path to the cage with extras in the cage did the trick.

This is off topic, but can someone tell me how to jump to a certain page in a thread that has over 150 pages. i was up to page 35 and don't want to click to only go 2 pages with each click.

Rain has stopped for now. Might get a chance to get new Cuke and tomato plant. We lost one of each no thanks to the squirrels. They have even been trying to dig up my pea and bean seeds.

Hard to get anything done in the rain! I bought some geraniums, ageratums, and alyssum and planted about half the other day. I was planning on getting the rest planted but barely got the lawn mowed before the rain came.
We have some critter that keeps moving a dry corn cob around the yard - I imagine its a trash panda. One day its in the front yard, next day in the back! I don't think I mind the raccoons as much as the chipmunks and squirrels who eat all the seedlings and dug up my asiatic lilies! Every last one of them!
I will have to enjoy everyone's gardening stories and pictures until the sun comes out!

So I counted at least 10 roses I am chock I am now really waiting checking my rose plant every day lol
Also my enemies the squirrels made a mess again
I am so mad at them I am chock these creatures come to the 6th floor and mess my plants up .
The only one they did not touch was the rose ha ha ha I guess they know they could get hurt ?
I must clean my balcony tmw when is nice out . I came from work to find a mess but it is also wet from rain so can't do much till is dry .
There is a net in the balcony well that did nothing they broke it
I wish they stay away
No much I can do but keep cleaning the mess they make every time they visit wile I am at work .

Heidibird, The line at the very top of the computer lists a page number. You might go to the topic and start reading, then change the number. I don't know if it will work, but might be worth a try. I agree there should be a way to jump farther than 2 pages.

I finally finished my mushroom patch with the help of DH. He built the frame for me and looked on as I mixed the wood ashes, potting soil and the mushroom spores in my wheelbarrow before dumping it all into the frame. Now to forget it's there and let Mother Nature do her thing.
Small cedar tree I uncovered from the tangle of leaves, limbs and weeds. There's another one about 6 feet from this one. They are about 3' tall

Enerva, a friend of mine was telling me about some electrical netting you can get. I haven't checked it out yet but it might be something you can use to keep the brats out of your balcony garden.

I replaced my tomato and cuke plant that died. I planted more tomatoes and three pickling cuke plants. My veggie garden is full.

ha ha ha electric net ohhh I wish but I am too high at a 6th floor I couldnt harm them that bad lol not the way I feel when I see the mess though ha ha ha I ll keep trying with hot spice a friend told me to add a bit to my plants so the squirrels hates it.
I went again looking for the Calathea plant and with no luck but found one of her relatives here is a picture. Got a pink pot to put her too.

Enerva - I'm surprised to hear 6 floors up you have squirrels. But possibly you could feed them to keep them from your plants. Like a diversion.

Gardener I try and it was worse lol one day I left food and she broke 3 of my plants. When I was re planting those I found the nuts and food inside the soil. Then someone told me that is what they do they will hide food in my plants soil
. I have try many things . Now I added some spice let's see if that keeps them away.I got a few other color pots check these.

Pesky squirrel knocked over one of my window boxes. Lost all the flowers in it. Had to go and get some new flowers. Put new potting soil in and planted the new flowers.

ok I added 2 cds lol one in each side right on the hole the squirrels opened on the net
the net was another ridiculous idea well they opened holes on both sides and come in whenever they want. The problem is that the building is close to a park so it is not only me many neighbors complaint about it. The building added a net for some of us but as u see it means nothing lol
My other neighbors gave up and have no plants in their balcony. I refuse I mean I have most indoor in the winter but spring and summer I love to let the plants breath out there plus I have a few additions trees which I want to try to leave out through winter and see if they come back .
I ll keep u all posted regarding the cds.

Enerva, I looked online and the remedies most useful for a balcony are mulching with pointy rocks, spraying cayenne, and growing mint. Evidently they don't like the smell of mint. We had a neighbor who was feeding squirrels and they buried them in the flower pots on our deck. I think the feeder died or moved away because they've gone for a couple of years now.

Yes this squirrels are nuts I honestly feel bad to hurt them with the cayenne but the other smelly fertilizer I used did not seems to bother them. I am sitting in my living room and I see how the wind is moving the cds and I think this may work after all cuz they may get scared

yes I will, just waiting for our weather to improve cuz it's been raining lots and cold so I haven't organize it much yet but so far got so many nice pots and plants which are slowly coming out to say hi

Enerva - I live in the country. Lots of trees and such. Never lived in a city or beyond ground level. But it just amazes me that squirrels would climb so high. Sorry you are having problems, but it just fascinates me. Are you close to a park? where do you think they nest?
I think I eyed a maidenhair fern in your collection? am I right? Love the airy, delicate fronds.
Look forward to your hearing if the spice or CD reflectors work. Our problem is the squirrels raiding the bird feeders. We somewhat have a fix for that. We put feeders on shepherd hooks, hang the feeder and just down slightly from the pole my DH put up a piece of flimsy sheet metal (shape of a large pizza pan) below the feeder. Its not 100%, but it works most of the time. And its great entertainment for us to see how they try.

Enerva, your potted plants are just beautiful! Good for you to continue to garden that high up. I, too, am shocked to hear about your squirrel problem.
MOmmy, sorry the squirrels are causing you problems too. I have 2 pecan trees that keep our squirrels busy so they typically don't damage anything else...thank goodness.

We finally got three beautiful days in a row, so I got all my pots planted and flower beds planted. I moved my hosta to a shady spot(took out a tree last year that left it full sun) and planted a spirea where it was. Today I will probably head to the garden center to find a replacement for said tree.
Jealous of everyones vegetable gardens.
Enerva let us know if the pepper works on the squirrels. I usually place some rocks on top of the soil and it keeps them from digging. Mine arent sharp, just smooth stones but it seems like they work.

Gardennerd, We watched in fascination at the zoo as a squirrel did a backbend over the shield on top of the bird feeder and snatched a sunflower seed. He did it repeatedly. Must have taken as much energy to do the backbend and get back up as he received from the sunflower seed. Amazing muscle power.
