I always appreciate a little music...
I know it's not quite the right holiday, but a lot applies.

Octo, I am SO in! What a great idea!
Next year, a cure indeed! And the seven plagues of hair loss, funky tummy, absent taste buds, drains, radiation burns, neuropathy, and waiting for scans! (Or seven others of your choice; I'm sure there are many more....)
0 -
ok gang, give me another day or two to recover from the post-chemo fatigue...and I am going to start thinking about how to make this happen. It definitely cheers me up to think about!
0 -
Women of my heart I've been diving under, not in a bad way but in a way that has kept me from being with you on the daily. The holiday talk and plans are so exciting
Octo YES to a Skype Sedar. I'm a 'Catholic' by birth but a roaming seeker in practice. about to marry a lapsed Jew, who actually likes to say 'you are just a little more Jewish than I am". Rest and recoup and let's make a plan.
Katy - oh how I love big/exciting weather too. The fire looks so cozy, would love to be beside it. Your memories and experiences around Christmas, plus the added commercial baggage, do make this time more challenging. YOU however, oh strong of spirit one, will make of it what you choose.
Lucy I am amazed at the heartiness of your holiday lunch and how one frolicks in the pool and hot sun, post prandial.
Rain- costco and a generous farmers market run- we may need to have lunch in when we finally get a date set! Lamb, leek and potato soup and what's to arrive in the CSA? Do you get a winter CSA?
Re Brussels sprouts, I often treat them as little cabbages they are, slice them thin and then saute with shallot and or garlic in a hit of butter ( or just EVO) finish with salt and pepper- divine. I'm with you Rain could eat them nightly this time of year
Actually a few nights ago I sauteed them with a diced sweet potato. Really it made like 3-4 portions but I ate the whole thing as the night went on.
Marie how are you feeling?
Chi- I hope DH scan is clear and whatever is on your breast is simply a freckle of sorts
Pennsy- sounds like a stitch, had one post mx and it just resolved itself
Slow hope you had an awesome weekend
Ducky and chevy Thinking of you
Hugs to all of you ladies

gaia. Thanks for asking. I'm still so confused with all the different people posting! I think I'm doing better this time than with the mastectomy in June. I did not even take anything for pain today and surgery was last Wednesday. The drainage is getting clearer... Last time it turned dark and lasted for weeks. I had an infection last time and when the took out the drain the fluid came out the incision. Hope I skip all that this time!
Chi, I had a place come up about 2 inches from where the cancer was on the first breast. They did an ultrasound when they did this last mammogram on the second side but did not see anything. It felt like a bb under the skin. I think doctors may think we are too panicked over nothing... But they probably had not had cancer. The surgeon removed it when he did the revision on the right and the mastectomy on the left. I'll find out Thursday.
Different thought: for anyone that had a mastectomy of one side: did you ever forget when dressed which side was gone? I had more pain and sensations from the side that was gone I forgot which one was fake at times!
For anyone with both sides removed: do you feel natural with the prosthetics? I felt really self conscious todaywith my regular bra and just a tiny puff to keep the bra from collapsing. I did not want to put pressure on the scars, but did not feel comfortable going flat.
0 -
Marie- I'm glad you are recovering nicely and so glad you checked in. I am flat and have prosthetics at the ready, but in almost a year now, I've never used them. I usually wear some kind of compression type tank and whatever else I'm wearing and I've never been uncomfortable. I honestly don't think anyone has ever noticed. If they did, they didn't let me know they noticed. And I just don't seem to care.
ChiSandy- keeping my fingers crossed for clear results for your DH.
Christine- I had uncontrollable cravings for sweet potato and that was my dinner the last two nights. The pairing with the slightly bitter sprouts sounds amazing. Could you email me a bit more info like size to cut etc

Marie, I'm glad the surgeon removed that little spot on the first side. I hope the doctors are correct and it is just scar tissue or something like that.
I actually have not tried to wear a bra, or any prothestics since my surgery. The skin on my chest has been so sensitive (that sort of sunburned feeling) that I can't imagine trying to wear anything. Sometimes I have to hold my shirt away from my chest, it's so annoying. I just go around flat, and people are gonna have to deal with it.

Marie, I was never comfortable with the floors post surgery. Layers are the answer. Like Katty said, no one notices but that doesn't help you feel any less self conscious. I had a uni for 5 years so evened out with a foob. The past few weeks have found me just layering, it does take time to find clothing that hang right. Also finding the right post mastectomy bra helps.
All this talk of the holidays and food (as I prep for my colonoscopy) you can keep your brussel sprouts. I did grow up with the boiled route doused with vinegar. Have had them roasted and braised and parmasan seasoned but they still taste bitter to me. The nephews are requesting German food for the meal so leaning that direction. Working Thanksgiving so cafeteria turkey and dressing.
Prayers for those of you healing, recouping and waiting on results for themselves and loved ones.

Marie, just chiming in from the flat wagon. I thought I'd feel self concious flat, but I actually feel self concious if I use prosthetics. Most people will just think you have lost weight lol. Anything you decide will be fine as long as you like it! I find silky billowy tops work well, as do snug stretchy things. What doesn't work is anything with darts or front pockets or low cut.

Brilliant, Octogirl! May I suggest we co-opt the feminist concept of an orange on the Seder plate--symbolizing that breast cancer belongs in our bodies no more than an orange belongs on a Seder plate?
Passover is our favorite holiday too. Especially DH, who loves gefilte fish and matzo brei for breakfast. (He still claims my matzo balls are heavier than my mom’s). Last Passover was bizarre, though--I spent first Seder night on a flight from Chicago to Madrid, but then second Seder night at a synagogue in Madrid. Chabad España found me a Seder to attend where at least a few attendees spoke English. But it was a Sephardi Seder, and the food was quite different. (Because it was open to travelers, though, they did adhere to Ashkenazi rules that prohibited rice and legumes. There was baba ghannouj & Jerusalem chopped salad instead of gefilte fish. And their version of charoset was not the relish made of matzo, wine and apples that we know, but rather a truffle-like ball of a sweet cinnamon, matzo meal and honey paste from which we sliced off pieces for the “Hillel sandwich.” Instead of horseradish, they used bitter endive. And because there were kids present, they served only grape juice and not wine. (When I got back to my hotel, I had a flute of rosé cava). It was conducted mostly in rapid-fire Ladino-accented Spanish--even the transliterations of the Hebrew used Spanish spellings of pronunciation. For once, my meager Hebrew reading skills kept me from getting lost.

Good Evening Crazies,
As usual, you've all been very busy. I love it!!
First things first......
Rose, We will all be in your pocket tomorrow for your colonoscopy. Hope all goes well for you!! Hope the prep tonight wasn't too awful. We will try not to leave too many crumbs in your pocket this time around!! I think I would have been tempted to tell the basement troll that you had a dream about death too - HIS. What a dumba$. I say we all jump him.
This is for you and MEG.
MEG, We will also be in your pocket tomorrow for you pelvis and liver scan. Sending all our combined good thoughts your way for B9. Please let us know how you're doing when you can.
Lucy, It was really nice of Poppy to suggest she meet me at my appointment. I wish you lived closer too. We would have a blast!! I would LOVE to come visit you in Australia, but I don't fly!! In fact I'm such a control freak I can't even be a passenger in a car. My DH drives occasionally, but it's like torture for me. Now you know why I'm the mayor of Crazy Town. haha Ahhhh.....the dreaded chin hair. My mom used to beg me to pull her chin hairs, but I just couldn't do it!! I was afraid I would hurt her. I'm a nutter too Lucy, we put up our tree today and did some inside decorating. All that works should last longer than a few weeks.
Ducky, You always crack me up!! The chin hair story gave me a good laugh. Fat letter = good news!! YAY!!
Marie, You've got a great sense of humor. Makes sense you hang with the crazies!! I think you should keep posting while on your drugs. It's VERY entertaining. Wishing you speedy healing and no pain.
Notagain, Big hugs to you. I still can't imagine what you must be going through. I'm glad you're here with us.
Katy, Jack is such a great dog. Thanks for posting the video. I love watching him run on the beach with reckless abandon!! Terriers have so much energy. Thanks for sharing the article about the bacon. I also don't eat a lot of bacon, but I'm not going to give up the occasional BLT. Everything in moderation. I think SpecialK has helped us all here on BCO. She is awesome. Sorry Christmas has been a difficult time for you. (((((Katy)))))) Great idea about changing the conversation - I'm proud of you. Love your fire!!
Queen, Where are you?? Haven't seen you post in so long. I hope all is well with you!!
M0mmy, Thinking of you. I hope you're doing well.
Cubbie, I'm relieved too. I still haven't heard from them so I'm sure all is well with the heart!!
Shorfi, Hi!! Hope you had a restful weekend. I don't get hair under the cancer side arm and very little on the non-cancer side. However, you could knit a sweater with the hair on my legs when I don't shave for a few days. It's the Italian gene.
Gaia, How did your class go?? It would be really great fun to Skype with you all!! I'll have to remove my chin hair for the occasion. I'm excited to hear you may take a west coast trip!!
Rain, Great to hear you've had good progress on the insurance issue. Very glad your treatment won't be interrupted!! It irritates me you're having to go through this on top of everything else. We are ALWAYS here to listen....it's Crazy Town. I'm all for the bake, cook and wine. I will add eat to that too!!
Sula, Waving back to you!!
PTS, The apple pie sounds good. That's my DHs favorite. Tonight he made an Italian Love Cake. It came out so well he is going to make one to take to my nephew's for Thanksgiving. I remember when you went to your neighbors last year for Christmas. I can't believe how quickly time flies.
Tomboy, How are you? I think I'm having Tomboy withdrawals. haha.....the past four days have done me in. I'm exhausted. I hope your weekend was a good one!!
Poppy, The attacks in Paris were awful. Will you put off your trip or do you think you'll still go? My DD went last year. Scary stuff.
Pennsygal, Sorry you're having to deal with a left over stitch on a weekend. I hope it gets resolved tomorrow.
Octo, Try chips and salsa!! One of the few things that tasted good to me right after chemo. Ice cream was good too!! Take the time you need to recover from your last chemo. You deserve that time. Did someone mention a get together with wine?? I'M IN!!
Chi, It's so annoying when these things pop up on the weekend. I hope it turns out to be something minor for you. I would definitely mention it to your MO. Sending good thoughts for good news on your DHs scans.
dsgirl, Good to see you.
I had such a busy four days with my DD. My DS, DD and DDs BF were all here today to help us decorate the tree. We are doing it early because my DD will be up north for Thanksgiving. My DH made sauce today along with a wonderful homemade cake. I think I may need to nap for the next week. I missed all of you and really enjoyed catching up with all of the posts!!
Sleepy time for me. Love and hugs to all crazies....quiet crazies too!!Too tired to check for typos....whatever!!

Slow....funny about the chips and salsa: I decided to try a few and yes, ended up eating half a bag AND salsa to go with them!! Yes, it tasted pretty darn good and weird thing is, my stomach didn't protest at all. That and ice cream, keeping me going.
Though I decided I wanted something healthy last night so explained to hubby how to roast a chicken. Sigh. He is sixty years old and there he was, roasting a chicken for the first time. Seriously. The guy can cook if he follows a recipe (and actually can make a pretty good stir fry without a recipe), but he didn't start cooking till he met me and I am the chicken roaster around here.
But I was too tired yesterday to do it, I just wanted to give instructions. Which I did. and then I went back to sleep. Fortunately, he had the good sense to wake me from my nap to say 'um....do you think the chicken is done yet.' I sniffed the air and said 'yes, time to come out' (What can I say, I've roasted a lot of chickens...but then I realized, the fact that I could tell it was done by the kitchen smell, meant at least my smell is back! Woohoo!!!) So I tried one of the legs. Tasted almost normal, just a slight off taste. And miracle of miracles, coffee tastes palatable this am. Happy Dance.
I can't believe how much I slept yesterday: my entire day was a series of naps punctuated by checking this board and trying to read a mystery novel that kept putting me back in nap mode. Then, after all those naps, I went to bed by nine and slept nine hours. Feeling much better today.

Octo, that is FANTASTIC news that your sense of taste is coming back! Just in time to plan a seder, eh? Clearly, your body knew what it needed yesterday, from naps to allowing/getting DH to roast a chicken. Which, everyone know, is as therapeutic as antibiotics. When my tastebuds were shot, I had much more luck with salty foods than sweet.
ChiSandy, how great to attend a Sephardic seder in Spain. Have you seen Claudia Roden's book on Jewish cooking? She covers both the Ashkenazi and the Sephardic food traditions, and it is striking how different they are.
Gaia, we signed up for the winter CSA for the first time this year. I've always passed on it because we're across the street from a greenmarket and feel we need to support them in the off-season, but I have been persuaded that we can do both, thanks to DH's and DS's eating skills, which are prolific. (Also because I am running the CSA now, I feel a little guilty if I don't do the winter share.) Though I also need to be sure that we leave some space for the Chinatown markets, because their produce is, ironically, so non-local.
Beppy, sounds like a good family weekend! A DH who can bake--I've never heard of such a thing!
Happy Monday to all crazies!

Here is a good story about a "cooking husband"......
I was just married, got pregnant right away (oops).......and was having some spotting...........Dr. said I should get off my feet so I did,.....but no worries......just us in our new apt......3400 miles from home in Washington State........
Well when lunchtime came my "non cooking" ;husband decided to make me some soup..........So Nice..........he opened up a can of chicken noodles soup........cooked it and brought it into me on the sofa...............well soup in hand he decides the coffee table isn't close enough to me, so he decideds to move it closer...............now you and I would have put the soup down, and moved the table with 2 hands.......................you know where I'm going with this .........RiGhT..............
So Mr. I have never cooked a damn thing before, let alone severed it.......................pulls the table with one hand, while juggling the soup bowl with the other..........now I digress..........'
Did he pick out the deepest soup bowl in the cabinet........no the one he decided to use was like a dinner plate with a "lip around the edge"........................well as he bent over to move the table he tipped the (very shallow bowl) of soup.........................right into my lap............Now you knew that was coming right...........just seeing the "oh shit" look on his face was worth the "hot crouch"..............LOL...........
Side note...................the spotting we found out later was not from me............it was from him......LMAO......we were married only 1 month............Doc said "he overused his manhood"....and strained his nether parts....................now tha is really funny............0 -
Ducky- you crack me up. Great story!
Octo- I'm so glad you feel better today. Grateful. And grateful your DH was willing to try something new that you do do well. Such a keeper.
Rose and Meg- thinking of you both.
I'm headed to the derm today. I and all my family have a lot of cancer and skin cancer especially. So I am on the six month check now. Wednesday the MO. A couple of Furry Friends visits the other days. Going to be a busy week. I'm hoping staying busy will distract me from this knot in my stomach (anxiety and nausea) that has now set up permanent camp in my gut. I really don't know why. Now. Why now.

Ducky...we call that "honeymoon cystitis"...that was funny.
My hubby does all the cooking in the house. He knew how much I hated cooking and he loves to cook...thank goodness.
Octo...glad you have your test buds back.
After we came home Friday night from the wedding...I stayed in bed the entire weekend just resting. It felt wonderful doing nothing. Even had corn on the cob for breakfast yesterday morning...hahah.
Will have the grandkids over on Saturday. We can't wait to see them. My baby girl cries a lot whenever her daddy leaves the room, but her big brother just camps out in his bedroom. Their parents are going out on Saturday evening so we have the honor of "sitting" with them.
Hi to all my friends...

oh dear Ducky, your entire family is full of the fun!
Katy, good luck on the dermo. I only recently started doing a yearly check and so far I think the doc picks one of my many moles to biopsy every time I see her! one on my leg did need to be removed but so far nothing more. You do look very fair skinned.
Think I may need to try the brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes, sure sounds like my sort of thing.
well back is unhappy so I am burning it to teach it a lesson! That heating pad will soon wear out if I keep using it everyday. I did see a nifty one on facebook that I may make for myselt as it was long and narrow so it would cover the entire backside
must get off as my fidelity guy is to call me shortly for a checkup so I need to put my official smart hat on~~

Octo, mazel tov on your taste buds reawakening!
Ducky, great story. Here’s mine: We had been married all of one week, settling into our first apt. in Seattle’s U. District, 3000 miles from our homes in NYC. Knowing we’d be living on just a UW research asst. stipend, I sat down before the wedding and drew up a strict budget, including $35/wk for food (hey, it was 1971). I made a huge chef’s salad with cheeses and cold cuts, plus a can of chicken noodle soup and a freshly baked sourdough boule from Safeway. DH & I sat down, and he wolfed down everything in 5 minutes. Delighted, I asked, “So you liked it?” He replied, “Oh, yeah. Can’t wait for the main course!” I tore up the food budget and we went down the street for pizza.

SlowDeep: (pops up from yarn sales) Thank dog, I'd been doing calmly since coming home from a week with my in-laws. Now trying not to get too flipped out about the (minor!) cosmetic correction to even my "Chestal Lady Parts" out a bit, post lumpectomy and rads.

More later, but i just had to share:
Did you hear about the woman who was a dyslexic insomniac agnostic?
.....She couldn't get to sleep at night , wondering if there really was a dog....

Tomboy-hahaha. Good one.
I have a truly Crazytown story about the derm. It was a very long appt which required the (self) administration of drugs. It's too much too type now. I'm exhausted.
But I swear. It is Ducky- worthy

Sometimes you just have to laugh. My second mastectomy was last week so I already had the bras and different prosthetics from last time. When a friend was over I brought them out to show her, most people don't know how it works. About TWO HOURS later I broke out laughing and sent her this text....

My propofol nap was uneventful. Snared 1 small polyp sent off to pathology. Course I have hemorrhoids and diverticulosis so increasing the fiber is in order. Doc says "I like to follow up in 2-3 weeks to go over path report, so patient's don't fall through the cracks" I snorted and said "good one, very punny" "yes it was" she laughed. Have a mild caffeine withdrawal headache.
Octo, glad to hear about the smeller and taster coming back.
Ducky, big fat letters in the mail still coming?
All the honeymoon stories, seder meals amusing and insightful.
The words just aren't there to item, thanks for being in my pocket today.

Rose..........no letters at all today......I think he has 5 more schools to hear from......and I think it has to be by sometime in Dec.......so he waits patientl;y......thanks for asking..........hugs........
Hope you feeling ok......

Taking a temporary trip out of Crazy Town: DH got his CT back, and the original 2cm lung nodule disappeared. Consensus (radiologist, FP) was that it was probably “inflammatory in nature." There's another one in a different part of the same lung, but it is described as a “very tiny, 2mm focus that may or may not be a nodule." So he only needs to get a followup CT in 6 mos. And the RadOnc nurse looked at the little tan splotch on my left breast and said it looks sort of like a seborrheic patch (I do have dandruff) but I should have my FP look at it before even considering a derm consult--most likely just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get bigger or darker. She confirmed that it wasn't there in August because they would have put a sticker on it when they did my screening mammo.

well crap. Feeling much better today, went to work, food tastes almost normal (but not quite. though chips and salsa do taste good...). So all good or at least better.
and then I got an email message: my younger sister, the baby of the family, was just diagnosed with DCIS. That means three of the four of us sisters have now had a dx. This hit me very hard. :-(
I mean, WTF?
Octogirl

Hello fine Crazies,
Octo so sorry to hear about your sister. My family is the same. Three out of four sisters have had This blasted disease!,,, so glad you are feeling well after your last treatment.
Tomboy you are funny and so many of you are such good cooks! I am not a cook but can bake a little.
JackB hope all is ok with your derm appt!? Please post soon...
I need to read up on Seder!
I'm headed into a weekend where my whole family will be attending a party to celebrate an engagement. Hoping I can hold it all together seeing most for first time since new diagnosis. That and just letting surgery on 12/16 sink in. Saying good bye to my breasts - appreciating them and wondering what the heck I will be left with and what that will be like. I know all of you know what I mean!!!!
