I have a degree in Creative Writing, too! UC Santa Cruz . . . took the direct marketing road. Have you ever heard of the National League of American Pen Women? They are located a mile from the White House in the Pen Arts mansion. I have always been too much of a people pleaser, but that's starting to change now! I got a call back from the public guardian people and she told me where to go to get the paperwork moving. I'm not going to do it today on Christmas Eve... that would just not be right. Feeling hopeful! I love that you are spending this time with your mom. I didn't know my mom had cancer until about 6 days before she died. It was a horrible deal in the hospital with doctors wanting to do their protocol and my mom kicking shins and pulling hair demanding to go home. I wish I could go back and do it way way differently. Those last days are the most precious and I will never forget the last few good moments, there were a couple.

Eggroll........so sad........I can appreciate your story, especailly now that I am 80......and sometime wonder.....how will this all end.........I never thought it would be like it is...........

Got in bed 11:30 last night.....last time I looked at the clock it ws 2:30, and I was still awake.......worrying about "how am I ever going to get all done what I have to do before Feb. 26th.....and no one is talking abou it....I wonder if they think if they don't ;talk about it it will all happen by itself.................I picture each room, each drawer, and wall, wondering a room at a time.........Lord help me to do this ..........and in the cold weather, I am even getting sick and tired of listening to myself talk about it........sorry ladies.......got off on a rant for a while...........just so worried......I hate it.

eggroll, what a heart breaking story. I try to keep from thinking about what lies ahead for my mother. She will never be put in the hospital. When the cancer drugs can no longer control the mets or if the side effects from the chemo becomes impossible to tolerate, the doctors will stop treatment and Anne (Ani) will be in home hospice. She will die in my home, and that is what we want. I hope we can have some more time with my mother. I hope the congresswoman can have the medical bed returned.

I worked as a writer, editor, and p.r. pro and held positions at a number of organizations in the D.C. area for many years. I have not heard of the National League of American Pen Woman.

I will send you a PM about the creative writing stuff, since it would bore most people!

I forced myself to get outside today and take a walk. I took some photos in my yard and around the grounds that surround our house. Flowers are in my yard.

DF and Sandy- great photos all. Jack's auntie brought him antlers but they are too big so we're calling them angel wings.

Shopping Porn! So, I am a consummate bargain shopper. I have more time than money. Santa (that's me!) asked me to find some wonderful gifts for me. So, featured here are Muk Luk slippers, Jilzara clay jewelry, and a pink plaid lace edged Betsy Johnson blanket scarf. If I told you what Santa (that's me!) spent on my XMAS gifts, you might lock me away for being delusional

Betsy Johnson blanket scarf is soft and delicate and difficult to photograph with a cell phone.

Merry XMAS! Happy Holidays! If you want to know where I find these treasures, you can send me an email with your own email address, and I will send you an invitation from my email address. I promise not to give your email to anybody and to use it only to invite you to join the shopping frenzy.

Merry Christmas! The presents have been opened (and wrapping paper thrown in the trash), the glogg made and quaffed, the plum pudding steamed, flambeed, topped with homemade hard sauce, and eaten. So before I turn in for the night (and a sinkful of dishes), here are some more pix from our trip:

St. Mary statue, Piazza del Gesu, Naples; look closely at her right hand and you will see flowers--brought to her every few days by city firemen:

    image

Piazza Del Gesu, looking toward Santa Chiara bell tower and the Spacca Napoli (with our tourguide on the left and DH in the center), Naples:

    image

Tangerine trees (but no marmalade skies), courtyard of Cathedral of Santa Chiara, Naples:

    image

Handpainted tile colonnade, courtyard of Santa Chiara:

    image

Handpainted tile detail, bench back along the colonnade:

    image

Lemon tree (very pretty), Santa Chiara:

    image

Nativity scene (creche) aka "Natale nella Chiostro" (Christmas in the Cloister), with obvious geographical license; cloister wing, Santa Chiara:

    Detail, Nativity scene:

More later on, when I upload from my other phone-cam.

Thanks, Smurff! It was a neighbors volunteer baby from her huge one. They were going to throw it away about 10 years ago! Hope everyone is having a nice break from it all, and Sula: I really hope someone is doing the cooking for you, for a change!

Chi- I am so glad you posted that pic of the fountain/grotto. Beautiful

Tomboy, what's the crocheted brown thing with the Santa hat under your tree? Hershey's Kiss? Acorn? Potato? Whatever it is, it's cute.

Hahaaah, Cubbie, it's an ornament that Slow's DD crocheted for me last Christmas! It's a little of a long story, but's actually a poo! I think I will let Beppy explain that one when she comes back here, but it's one of my favorite ones! Hahaaahaa!!!

Hey Cubbie, my sympathies on the cold & sore throat--going through the same thing right now. Made my facial seborrhea (ugh) flare up too. Can’t get a derm appt. for at least 3 wks. I wrote a song a few years back called “It Sucks Being Sick at Christmas,” which seems to have gotten more airplay this year & last than anything else on our holiday EP (Andina & Rich “Merry Humbug”); the song might be up on iTunes, or for streaming at CDBaby.com, Spotify or Rhapsody. When I wrote it, it was in early Dec. and I had laryngitis so bad I couldn’t even hum it--took two weeks before I knew whether it was even singable!

Did really well.....Santa was good......one son gave me a $500.00 gift card to my favorite store......a $1,000 check....and a gift card for the works to my hairdresser....double process, highlights, cut and style..........another gave me $500.00 check.......daughter gave me $100.00 and a gorgeous picture..........another daughter $300.00......another daughter it's yet to come but also a container of dark chocolate covered nuts homemade......another son ............................................nothing.....................guess he forgot it was Xmas LOL........

Lots of other things from my grandchildren ......then went to my sons on Xmas day for dinner....treated like a queen, and the food was excellent....and it was all day long....haha........he picked me up...in his Mercedes that is to die for his car is nicer then my home.......LOL......and brought me back home.......

Relaxed today.....was invited to my daughters for a gathering with her in-laws who I like, but she came to my house to pick something up, and gave me some shit, cause she was annoyed with her husband's lack of consideration planning this thing for his family, and decided I was going to be the one she would take it out on.............got mouthy.........and tht ws it...............blamed me and said " your just looking for a reason not to come to my house"...........I said "I don't need a reason, if I friggin don't want to come I wi ll say so, but guess what, now I'm not coming"............end of story, so I had a relaxing day at home.......they last thing I needed was bullshit when every bone in my body was hurting........need to go to the acupuncturist this week for sure...........

Raining here, and getting colder, although they said 70 degrees here tomorrow........

Hope you all had a nice Xmas...............hugs.
