Thank you, Molly! Now thinking of something to do during my 'radiation appointment' time come Monday that would be an improvement. Pumping a septic tank's out as we're on municipal utilities. I'll have to settle for mopping or washing silverware or cleaning the cat box or something.

Littleblue/Tresjolie: thank you for chiming in on the chemo/rads question. The stress of the unknown did lift somewhat as my treatment went on, but it's still lying alone in a cold room on a hard table, wondering when you're being zapped.

Ankledolphin: (snorts of laughter) I can well imagine your answer...but I of course have lived a life pure as the driven snow. Those carboys in my kitchen are for ginger ale.

Bluedog: so how'd the back-to-school night go?

congrats to QMC & Keys-Plez! Hoorary for the the bell. 🔔

I can't imagine rads being as bad as chemo (which I didn't have). We are all so different :)
For the record, no one passes out soda & sandwiches when I get my Herceptin infusion, so I have all the comforts ready at home 🍷🍫
At rads, there are a few friendly faces I greet in the waiting area each morning. I love baring it all in that cold room because my frequent hot flashes could heat a home this winter. Maybe I will get the techs a new CD though...think they only have 2. Compared to that 40 minute session on my dry run, daily sessions go quick. Beam time in the face hole has become prayer time; count my blessing, think of others. 7 of 20 done. Glad for the weekend to cool down.

QMC and Keys-Plz, Now I can really Congratulate you both! Hooray!!! I'm doing the happy dance for you both!

Hope you have a great weekend, knowing that another chapter has been closed. :) Many Hugs.

Horsegirl: depends on what bothers you most, I suppose.

Sweetmamaj: end of the first week for you, right? two more to go? (if not, let me know--I'll update the chart.) But you'll get to ring your bell just as Pinktober gets well underway.

QMC, thanks for asking. The back-to-school night was kind of uncomfortable. I would pass an acquaintance in a hallway, start to say hi, see that there was no light of recognition in their eyes, try to convert my hi to a cough, etc. You know, the usual.

Congrats on finishing QueenMomcat and Keys-Plez!!

I agree with those that say radiation has been more emotionally draining than chemo. I always had someone with me at chemo. But with rads you're left in a dark, cold room alone with a big machine and zapping sounds.

Littleblue - I definitely feel like I have battle fatigue. I have been feeling a little depressed and scared this week and I was wondering if it's part of my grief process or side effects from the tamoxifen.  I'm thinking I may look into going to a counselor.

Well, mostly fearless. Dark moments do come for me too. I'll admit that I'm a little placated to hear others say radiation treatment's psychologically problematic.

SpriteB: seeing a counselor might not be a bad idea--there's that psychological issue inherent in rads, if you're prone to such things (I am, and in spades), And also there's the falling off the pier of active treatment into the shocking waters of returning to normal life.

Happy Friday everyone! Congrats to the bell ringers! I don't know if there is a bell at my facility. Well, I am 4 down of 33. I am not feeling any side effects so far, though I was not really expecting to yet. I am really tired, but I already was.... I think more mentaly emotionally, plus I am getting over a cold. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Congrats QMC and Keys-Plez!! I think I heard the bells from here. ;)

This was the first day that I came home and immediately used the cooling towel/cloth as recommended here. What a difference. Thank you Keys-Plez!! I don't know why I haven't been doing it. I was so intent on using the creams it never entered my foggy brain. I knew my breast was hot, but when I put the cloth on it and heat immediately came through it was kind of shocking. My husband was standing there and touched it and then touched my un-fried breast. He was amazed at the difference in temp and that was with the cloth on it. After about 30 minutes of refreshing it and reapplying, the heat left and has been gone all day. I probably could have avoided some of the redness and damage if I had done this sooner. If your site feels warm or hot, please use one of these!!

In case you don't know what I'm referring to, it's those synthetic fabric sports towels that you wet and wring out and it feels very cool. They sell them everywhere. My husband uses them when he's working in the yard.

One more thing - These forums need a like button!! I read all of your posts and wish I had a way to acknowledge them.

Sweetmamaj: a bit of both, I think. Done with rads, so we don't have to go back the next day! but done with rads, so we're done with the active part of treatment....?

Pamela: Was I that noisy when I rang my bell? But thank you for mentioning the sports towels. Gel packs from Walgreens, stored in the freezer, for me, but that might be an issue for anyone who's gone through a mastectomy--the nerve endings are disconnected? Remind me/us, where did you get the towels?

I got my towel on Amazon. It's called Polar Pad. They're $10.95. You can probably buy them locally in the sports section, but not down here in the land of no shopping. I'm 132 miles from Walmart. To me, heat equals damage. So less heat, less damage. I was warned by my techs not to use ice cause it could damage already damaged skin. The cooling towel is much safer.

Sorry for not chiming in after I got home, but I pretty much crashed when I got home. And yes, I rang the bell.

This is what happens when you've had too much radiation.

Keys-Plez: nobody told me about that side effect of rads! Don't blame you for crashing pretty much as soon as you got home--I can well imagine you were exhausted. On several fronts. But thank you for mentioning where you got the cooling towel.

Bluedog, I am also introverted. Thought you might get a chuckle out of this. image

    There's another one that says:

Introverts Unite. Occasionally. In small groups.. for very limited periods of time.

    Happy weekend everyone!

Keys-Plez chimed in but I thought I'd say I just bought a cooling towel at Walmart. Look in any sporting goods section for them. I wanted one for the car for days when I can't come straight home. I can see where I'm going to use them A LOT for the next 3 weeks. I like that you can use them anywhere and don't need access to a freezer. Well, you can use them anywhere you can shove a towel up your shirt. Personally, I have no problem doing that in the car. ;)

I too was also told that you have to be careful not to damage the skin with something too cold.

Just met with my RO yesterday. I start rads in three weeks, 16 sessions and no boosts. Left side so I'm worried about my heart as the RO said he will be using the breathing method on my to move my heart out of the way of the beams(rays)

Christine: you're on the board. and welcome, in a manner of speaking, to rads. I put you down for three weeks from your intake interview (Friday). Are you starting then or Monday?
