I had yesterday afternoon off ( it was supposed to be my infusion day, but my LVEF is too low for HP right now). Went home to look for kittens. Momma was nowhere to be found. I walked around the brush pile and called her - nowhere. I carried one kitten at a time into a bedroom in the house - still nowhere. My husband called, and here she came, walking up, looking for her little ones. There was no way I could bring them back, they were under dressers and the bed, all in hiding.

I put our carrier out back with a piece of chicken in it and sat in a chair, talking to her, telling her what a good momma she is. I went out front with the wheelbarrow and got the kennel our friend loaned us, put a nice piece of chicken in the bowl of food and waited. (she had eaten the chicken in the carrier while I was gone) She circled around it 3-4 times, an hour or two went by, and I was just on the verge of giving up, going back in the house, when she decided to make one more try. I did have a trap, but no idea how to set it up, the kennel I could figure out.

I will pick her up in about an hour from the vet, she was spayed this morning. No more babies! PTL. She will stay in the garage 10-14 days. My husband moved the car out and put down some cardboard, we are going to let her run free in the garage. She liked my lawnchair, so I will set it up, with a blanket or bed, and I hope to feed her some delicious things so she will forgive me for steatling away her family and tricking her into a cage. I hope she can lead a better life.

Wow what a great Mission Accomplished.

I wonder if it might be better to keep her in the cage within the garage till she calms down. You could put a box in it where she can hide or put a blanket over it and leave a sand box inside. She might try to escape your garage. Maybe after feeding for a few days she would be calmer. You could even show her the babies if she seemed distressed.

Once i had a cat who was best friends with the dog. When the cat died, I let the dog see her body and realize she was dead and I think it helped the dog a lot. In this way Mama sees that a caring person has her babies.

    Good job!

Thank you, Santabarbarian, I am going to do that. I will keep her in the cage a few days, she has the blanket now, we put it on when we left the house last night. I don't know if I can put food and water in there, but I will try!

I wondered about showing her the babies. One of my coworkers mentioned that too. I can't let them loose in the garage, but I could maybe put them in a box or something, if I can catch them all, they are still sad about the loss of their mom, and hiding. Thank you very much!!

You would want to put them in a smaller cage or take them in one at a time so they don't get away from you.

The way to befriend babies is to stay w them in a small room, kind of ignore them, and let them come to you. Even sleeping in the same room...

Long ago I adopted a feral... and the first time she got close was when I was asleep: I woke up just as she was creeping across the bed and settling in the crook of my leg!

Missouri, I would check with the vet about mom cat and her kittens since you’ve noticed they are missing her. Has she weaned them completely? They may need extra nutrition as they are still young. Vet can guide you in the right direction.

Cleocatra basking in the warmth of the fireplace. What a different life this kitty lives now...compared to her past burdensome life...

It's a great knack of cats to enjoy the royal present despite what's gone before. She looks completely content. I'm a little envious of her before the fireplace. We have one but don't use it, because every time the weather makes us want a fire there's a burn ban. We finally just gave up.

    Wren,

Feels like cheating... this is a ventless fireplace...

I love real wood fireplaces better...but this is what I have...

Kitties don't seem to notice the difference...

Momchichi - That's probably why I fell in love with her so quickly...she has my favorite colors...

Edj - I swoon over her whenever she jumps in my lap...she purrs the loudest of all in the house...I am so honored and blessed to be able to help her have a better life...she is such a survivor inspiration...
