    Gumdoctor, so very cute!

Wren, I hope you are doing okay, been thinking of you.

My dad, who is 84, told me yesterday that animal shelters "take care of those things", and I need to get rid of my cats. This is not the first time, but it hurt just as much, as I am trying to socialize these kittens and work, and it is heartbreaking really, wondering if I can do it, if I can trap mom, and today I figured out she can get pregnant again even while nursing, and she might have more kittens. I am asking a friend to borrow a trap and plan on bringing the kittens inside this weekend (7 weeks old). I am so scared they are going to get out of my backyard and the neighborhood dog will get them. I have a neuter appointment for the stray male, who is friendly and lets me pick him up, Friday, but we've been down this road before and he usually disappears for a few days.

I spent yesterday depressed, worried, sad, crying and I hate that. So... if you've seen this kitty all over Facebook, here is something that might make us all smile.

My husband worked for a guy that, when you asked him, how are you? He would say, I'm okay, it is the world that is all wrong. That is certainly true. I keep going through my head telling my dad I am skipping Thanksgiving this year, and not going. One Christmas, when we had one of our kitties pass away, he told me, Congratulations, one less. I've been told that the best thing you can do for this type of person is feel sorry for them. He is 84 years old, but boy, some days....thank you for listening.

Thank you, edj3. I'm sorry if I sound like a crazy person, usually I am normal. It makes me appreciate my husband, who loves me and has to go through all this junk from my dad. My mom died of colon cancer (I got the wrong kind of cancer) when I was 19 and he remarried and we had a bit of trouble with them when our first child was born, and this just really reminded me of all of that. They never appreciated my husband much, but he is their "go to guy" now for repairs and hanging up blinds, etc. We all learn about life when we get sick, and things that are important. One day, he won't be here anymore, and I have to live with how I handle these situations. There are not many people or places you can be honest, and I appreciate that I can do that here, thank you. I don't like drama and sorry to bring this to you, but I do feel better being able to say this, thank you.

Missouri Cat Lady, You might contact a local shelter about their services. We have a group here called Alley Cat Project that traps adult cats, spays or neuters them, and returns them to the site. Whenever possible they trap Moms and kittens, put them in a foster home and try to socialize the kittens. Unfortunately, you're right that they can get pregnant while nursing. The Seattle shelter has kitten foster homes who specialize in socializing kittens. Actually, all cats are born feral and must be socialized to humans. My worry is that you aren't there enough to do intense socializing and they're getting old and harder to socialize.

That said, your FIL is a real case. Won't he be surprised when he learns that God takes into account how people treated animals.

    MissouriCatLady -

I am so sorry for what your dad said. My mom made a few snide, hurtful comments about my kitties over the years. I talked about her alot in my therapy sessions...

My most loving suggestion for you is to not let it in. He does not understand and is probably not capable of understanding the profound love you have for kitties. And that's ok. Do not let it in. Do not give it energy. Do what you know is right for you and them in your heart.

I have had to try to explain my profound love for kitties to my wonderful husband. Even he has made a few hurtful comments over many years. I explain it like this: God has given me an extraordinary love for these beautiful, perfect, amazing little creatures. It is a gift that not everyone gets. I am so grateful for this gift and I feel moved to put it to good use to help them have a better life. So many kitties don't make it or live in horrendous circumstances. I can't really explain it any better than that. Please trust me that I am doing what God moves me to do to love them and help them when I can.

He has 2 rescue kitties of his own and feeds numerous feral kitties. One of them was Whitey (now Cleo)...I think he understands a bit better than years ago...

Sending you a big warm loving kitty hug :)

PS Even if others don't "get it," rest assured we do here...

We absolutely do. I've been smitten over kittens since I was five years old and my mother told me that the cat who started giving birth on my bed (what a mess, scared me so much) really REALLY loved me and trusted me. That was it, cemented me as a cat person forever. Love me some kitties, will have them until the day I die or I'm shuffled off to a home where I can't have them.

Thank you for understanding, thank you for your comments. There are some things about cancer that are fortunate, and that is all of you. Thank you.

Wren, I spoke to a lady at my vet's office today, about trapping momma and what will I do with her IF I get her. They will take her and I may have to wait a few days, but they can spay her. She told me she would have to stay secluded for 2 weeks, otherwise, a male cat could hurt her trying to mate with her and rupture her sutures and cause her death. The friend who is bringing the trap today happens to also have a kennel, so we will put her in the garage that time. She is such a good mother, I have such a hard time taking those babies away from her. I have a friend who runs a rescue, I may visit with her about a foster, someone who is home more than I am, to help the kittens. I gave them a piece of chicken from Sonic yesterday and they absolutely loved it! This morning, I boiled 2 chicken breasts and we will have a snack when I get home, if it is not dark. All cats are born feral - you're right, I hadn't thought about it like that. Somehow that makes it sound a little tiny bit easier for some reason.

Gumdoctor, thank you. We were driving somewhere a week or so ago, and my husband asked me, did you blow out the candle? No, I didn't, but I told him, don't worry about it, and after a few seconds, he turned to go back home. He told me, it wouldn't matter to me if the house burned down to the ground, but it matters what happens to those cats because I wouldn't want you to have to deal with that, When I look at these kittens, your words explain the love perfectly. How could anyone not love a kitten?

It was about 3 summers ago, maybe 2, my husband built a catio, put it on a trailer, and spent the day putting it up at our vet's house out in the country. She pretty much saved the life of one of the tornado cats, when he couldn't pee, and I wanted her kitties to be able to go safely outside like ours do.

I so appreciate you ladies, I hope you know that. Edj3, you holler if you ever come south to Joplin. Hope you can watch some KC Chiefs tonight too. Thank you for healing my heart up today. No more tears. I do feel sorry for those that do not love animals. A friend on Facebook told me they have a black heart and I agree. Thank you for your kindness, listening, and understanding. Hugs to you, Lisa

P.S, Here are some photos from Saturday.

There are 5, light gray stripey, dark gray stripey, two that look like the middle picture, tortoiseshell twins, and then tabby, like his father, whom I did call hissy, but he quit, thank you Jesus. We did make a few steps forward. You girls, I love you girls, thank you. Whoever would not love a kitten - something is wrong. Thanks.

MissouriCatLady, I honestly don't know who I'm more in love with - you for your huge heart, those kittens for being so unbelievably adorable, or your wonderful husband for turning the car around to protect both those adorable kittens and your huge heart. I CAN tell you this...this thread keeps MY heart warm.

Wren, I wanted to share one more thing. I enjoy the site Find a Grave, it helped me when I was working on my mother's genealogy. I ran across this poem one day. There is a song that goes with this on You Tube. I contacted the author's daughter and she was going to correspond with me about her father, the author, but she is a physician, and like most physician's, she is probably very busy. This poem had a lot of meaning and made my cry, so read with caution, but it is beautiful as well. Hugs to you, for your kitty that went to the Rainbow Bridge, until we meet again.

"Cat Lullabye" -- A Song of Goodbye

I've watched you sleep so many times before
Your fur and whiskers gentle to my eye
I used to wonder where you went in dreams
Lie quiet now and hear my lullabye

You'll go now where the dish is always full
Where water always shimmers in your bowl
You'll go to where the winter sun is warm
You'll go to where the summer nights are cool

And though the sparrow flies beyond your reach
You'll climb the highest fence with careless grace
And all the dogs will be as small as mice
And where you prowl no one will dare to chase

Don't be afraid, you want this pain to end
The vet's your friend. He knows this road you're on
Feel my caress, listen to my song
    I promise I won't go before you're gone

When you were young I chased you through the grass
You ran too fast, I never caught you then
And now once more you're leaving me behind
But someday I'll catch up with you again

I've watched you sleep so many times before
Your fur and whiskers gentle to my eye
I used to wonder where you went in dreams
Lie quiet now, hear my lullabye
I used to wonder where you went in dreams
Lie quiet now, hear my lullabye
(Whispered): Lie quiet now, hear my lullabye

Perfectly describes how I felt letting my Chloe girl go this summer. Petting her soft fur as she went was more for me but I hope/believe she was comforted too.

Missouri I am so sorry your Dad makes cutting comments. Some people just cannot understand a connection with animals and when they don't they typically don't support you having one either. You have such an open caring heart and the world is a better place because you choose to help animals in need. I, too, have been an animal lover since an early age but my favorite has always been the kitties. Those kitten pics are so cute and I am beyond happy that you have such a supportive hubby! Bless him (and you)

Edj3 - smitten with kittens yeah I love that

Missouri, when my hubby and I adopted our younger kitty Grace last year, my father in law got a really nasty attitude that “you need to get rid of all your pets and give us the money you spend on their care". At that time all I had for pets a.k.a. “my kids"was my kitty Princess and Jackson, my “Angel" Sheltie of two months now. I was incensed at this. My husband stood behind me all the way and told me to forget what his father had said, that “our kids" stay.

So when people get nasty about your precious kitties, ignore their nasty comm

Hi sweet kitty friends. FairyDragonfly, love those whiskers!! So sweet! Mommyof2, I've heard those words before. Your words have helped me not to focus on negativity any more. Thank you very much.

This weekend, the kittens are coming in the house, to their own bedroom for a little while, and the trap will be set for tuxie Porkchop (Porky), their mother. She is smart and sweet, and a good mother and, hopefully, will be able to get her spay and then can stay in our garage for 2 weeks while she recuperates. I know she will miss her babies, but we must do this to prevent her from having more kittens. Her boyfriend, Mister, stray tabby, AKA The Traveler, has a neuter appointment Friday morning, and he'd better make an appearance!

Thank you for listening to my problems and I apologize for coming here, but I appreciate all your kindness, thank you. I hope to share some photos sometime of little kittens that are up for adoption, ones that will sit for the camera, it may take a little while, and a few chicken breasts and cans of tuna. Please keep sharing your sweet kitties, they sure make me smile! Love and hugs to you today and every day!!
