I haven't had a kitten since my very first cat. My heart kitty was 10 when I adopted her. We think our current cat, Squeakers, is about 9yo. He has FIV, so we thought we could outlive him. After that it will be fosters only. I'm being a little optimistic there because heart kitty and Squeakers were both fosters to begin with. We're 75 and 76, so really too old for a kitten.

ruthbru Totally agree on Feliway. When I had my two tuxedos, Ms Boo, was very alpha and would always be asserting dominance over Emma. It remarkably changed their interaction and like you, I could tell when the plug-in was out just by her behavior.

Feline ~ I think that is the first tummy shot of Arthur I've seen. Was he flirting or playing? I'm guessing playing since he has his ball next to him. Looove the feetsies .....and the tummy too!

Ruth ~ I had a work friend that had a very opinionated lady cat. She also was a pee'er when po'd. The friend had floor ducts for her heat and air. The kitty would pee in the vent in the bedroom..........bad enough in the summer, horrible when the heat was on! Uck.........her whole house would reek. She must have loved that "stinker" an awful lot!
Wren ~ Every time you mention Squeakers I smile. I hope there will be no more "meanies" to torment him! Kittens are a biiig adjustment after being with a grown up for so many years. My soul mate passed away at 17. When I adopted a rescue baby a year later it was like learning to be a "parent" all over again!
Labelle ~ Condolences for loss of your Jena. So sweet that you were able to give that "starving" kitty a home. Tubby is lovely ~ More pics please!

We have another older cat also, but she seems to disappear when anyone wants to take her picture!
I have been reading (looking at cat pictures with envy) on this thread since January and am just so happy to add our new addition. I've almost always had two cats, so the house didn't feel right with only one!
Just love looking at everyone's kitties. What a wonderful thread!

QuinnCat, Moggies is the word you were thinking of. A moggy is a slang word for any non-breed cat. Mutt or Mongrel is a non-breed dog.
Shep yep, well spotted! It is really hard to catch Arthur off guard, I think those were shot on DS's phone and Arthur didn't realise he was being photographed!. Unfortunately the toy balls are gone, along with the toy mice. Arthur was a 9 month old stray when he came to us and although he was clearly originally a domestic, he had spent some time fending for himself and probably not enough time bonding with human caregivers. I am soooo sorry to report he has zero interest in cat toys. It is a real shame as it might save a few small critters if he spent some of his energy and wore out his pouncing needs on toys. DH was moving a swing set in the garden yesterday and came across an entirely intact shrew skeleton. Must have been one of Arthur's kills, which he practically never eats. It was quite fascinating it was so tiny, so light, and so perfect. The ribcage bones were like hairs they were so tiny, and the skull was so light it was translucent.

The shelter had an awesome Sunday. They adopted 11 cats, 5 dogs, 1 rabbit and 1 cockateil. Several of the cats were kittens (easy to adopt), but there was a 15yo and a 20yo. The 20yo was in such good shape that we had begun to doubt the stated age. The vet said his bloodwork was that of a 10yo. I love the people who adopt old cats.

We have been "chosen" ... Again! She is 5 mos old. Slept on our deck box, still there in the morning. Couldn't find her for awhile, then I went to the shed to make a fire & spotted her up on top of the garden shed all curled up. Once she got up I was putting out the lawn chairs & she made herself at home. That was that. She is horribly skinny. I'm pretty sure her mom is at my neighbors as he also had one show up but it is a mature tortie. I'm so tired of the drop offs here in the country.

feelingfeline, thanks. So far this yr 4 have been hit by vehicles & left dead in the ditch in front of my house. 2 I trapped & took to humane society. 3 are at large as we speak. I have 4 indoor now. This latest I named Penny cause of all her copper.

I'm not big on stunts with cats like that -- too much safety training at work, I guess. I'm sure the owner means well and is very loving though. In the Devon Rex community (yes, due to FB, we have a rather close knit community of Devon owners) the big thing is to get a stroller and take them for walks. I can't remember if it was a breeder or a Vet Devon owner that said cats are very territorial. They have a home range and when you take them out of their territory it stresses them out.

That's interesting. Arthur follows us a lot when we leave the house walking and once nearly followed us to church 2 Christmases ago. (As there was a nativity play on he would have blended right in). DS had to turn back and bring him home on that occasion. That is when we leave our house by one route, but when we go the other route he always seems to reach an invisible line and goes no further than that point.

When we lived about 3 blocks from a grocery store, our cat would follow to the end of our block and join us on our way back when we reached that point.
Cat lovers rejoice! A 16yo girl was adopted from the shelter yesterday. She was a love, so not too surprising.

I had a Siamese growing up. I'd walk with my neighbor about 3 blocks and back in a neighborhood loop. My Tammy would walk with us, but going from bush cover to bush cover. I'd be mortified now!
