Awesome to meet some more crazy cat folks here. We have 6...and 4 house rabbits. I've always been the keeper of the animals in our house, and all my recent surgeries and pending chemo have thrown my husband into that role.

That litter robot looks amazing, Quinncat. I wonder how mine would react to that. I'm going to have to Google that and get some more info. That should take my mind off my upcoming start to chemo.

ALWAYS good to have other things to think about when life gets rough (especially of the other things have to do with cats Smile)!

Welcome Lessharp, such a lovely perspective in the pic of Max and Salem.

Fireheart, very best wishes with your treatment. Look forward to seeing pics of the cats (and the rabbits) Did your cats and rabbits grow up together? Obviously you have the rabbits living in safety with the cats, some cats (mine included) would not be like that unfortunately Sad

leesharp - wonderful pic! I like how your red and white cat glows.

fireheart - I belong to a few cat fb groups for my breed and many people, especially breeders, own the litter-robot. You can imagine why a breeder would own one with sometimes over 10 adult cats, but even cat owners like me, 3 or less, love their litter-robots. I'm still transitioning from boxes to the robot (not a big deal), so haven't gotten to 100% nirvana yet, but I can already tell I love the darn thing. I know for sure, two of my cats have used it and the third, if he hasn't used it, he looks in it all of the time (setting off the emptying cycle that occurs 7 minutes after leaving or a choice of 2 other intervals). I'm not sure how many you would need for the number of cats you have. I've never heard of a cat rejecting one, but if they do, the company will take it back up to 90 days, plus they are of great help. btw, at first, you leave it "off" and let the cats get use to it as another litter container. I got ahead of myself by turning the cycle on while they were present, which is ok, but after they've totally accepted for using as a box- - they had not. For the first few days, when it cycled, they would all come a running to watch it cycle (my Joey had started using it). It was hilarious. Now I will be working on eliminating, one by one, my 3 other boxes.

Feline, Rabbits have a nasty kick. Only takes one or two to put the cat in it's place. Sort of like what cats do to dogs.

lessharp ~ Good to see you again! ((waving)) Your beauties look quite content. Sunbeams make me sleepy too! Are you still loving your CatGenie?

Quinn ~ I'm too OCD to even think about the litter robot.....all the " stuff" rolling around inside in there.... How does it not get on the kitties? Wouldn't there be "stuff" coating the entire inside?

fireheart ~ Welcome! Way back when I was first on my own, I had a bunny first and then a kitten a few months later. They were both kinda jerks. The bunny would poop in the kittens food bowl and the kitten would poop in the bunny's litter. They would wrestle something fierce! The bunny did have a powerful kick, but he always preferred "germ warfare"......he would poop on anything the kitten liked :( Another kitten was added a few months after and they all played nicely together. When the older kitty had kittens of her own it was a riot to watch everyone play together. I kept one of the kittens so then there were 3 cats and one bunny. They could be very naughty together and taught each other all kinds of bad habits. Chewing was the worst! The neighbors cats would come and visit - the older cat would actually introduce the visitors to the bunny. None of them ever tried to hurt him. The older cat was always a jerk. She would have a favorite playmate of the day and make the others hang out with the bunny. It was so sad and funny at the same time to see the little group of outcasts sitting together. The bunny was happy and felt popular. The cats would have the "I suck" look in their eyes 😟

Ruth ~ Go Oreo! Such a pretty grandkitty; I love when they forget to put their tongues away! 😻

Feline ~ I would think a cat of such noble stature as Arthur would be "above" befriending any creature not up to his social standards. 😺

Smaarty ~ The group nap is lovely. I am very surprised the coveted tuffet was left unoccupied!

Wren ~ Is Squeakers still squeaky clean? What a good kitty daddy your DH is!

Teka ~ That girl is determined to keep you home. Silly Teka Kitty! Looove that poofy fur......

CJ ~ Where are you? Please post a gazillion pics of Gus so we know you are okay! 💜Gus💜

Shepkitty nope, clean as a whistle inside. A smart engineer designed this contraption and when I hear it cycle, it is pure music to my ears. Theoretically a good idea to take a wipe (owners say bleach, but i have a slightly asthmatic cat and bleach a no no) to the inside once a week, but having it on since Sunday it is pretty pristine in there. I emptied the bag in the drawer for the first time today

Gross story so hold your nose, or skip to the next post if you don't want to know.

Many years when DS (now 20) was small I worked several jobs that were ones I could fit around looking after him. One was part-time bookkeeping for a vet and his wife. I could choose my own hours and do a lot of work from home, and when the vet and his wife were on hols I would mind their house, their cat and their aquarium, and look after the clients and occupants of a small 12-cat cattery that they ran in their home.

Their own big white cat was quite the predator. Big white cat had a cat-flap.

One time I was minding house, fish, cat and cattery and on the first morning I let myself in the front door. As I crossed the hall I saw a glass marble and thought I should pick that up. Only when my fingers made contact with the "marble" did I discover it was an eyeball. It was all that remained of some wild rabbit, perhaps a young one. There was not so much as a whisker left. That was not the only adventure I had in that house, which was a very old one, surrounded by big gardens, and had a pond. I had to rescue a frog from a toilet. (Very difficult as it kept swimming under the U-bend) and I had another grizzly encounter. The vet and his wife were not the best at throwing away the perishable food when they went away and would usually leave some milk, bread, fruit etc and sometimes a few unwashed dishes in the sink so I learned to check for these things the first day as it is not nice to deal with these after the rot sets in! So on the first day I would go in the kitchen and check counters, fridge, sink, dishwasher and deal with anything that should be cleaned or thrown away. So I was not 100% surprised when I saw a kidney bean lying on the floor. I think this may have been an earlier house-sitting, before the "glass marble" inccident. Went to pick up the kidney bean and you guessed it, it was no bean. Big white was a tidy eater but the odd bit of his prey just wouldn't suit his palate. Funnily I am extremely squeamish about anything involving upset stomachs (I won't even say the word) but I am a dab hand at mouse kidneys, rabbit eyeballs, fishing frogs out of toilets and cleaning cat poop.

Shep, They make a kitty toilet which is connected to the plumbing. It uses fake litter and flushes everything away. Very expensive. They say you have to get new fake litter a couple of times a year. But other than changing that, you never touch any of it.

lessharp - Love the photo. Looks like Salem is a photobomber.

ruthbru - Oreo has the right idea about workouts.

shepkitty - All our animals coexist pretty peacefully. We do have one older cat (our only female) who DOES NOT like other cats. So she lives in our bedroom/bath. She does, however, find bunnies entertaining. Yes, chewing is quite the activity in our house. Our younger bonded pair of bunnies are ruthless in what they choose to devour.

Will definitely post some pics of our little zoo when I am on the computer where our family pics are stored.

Okay, I know we are all about cats; but, DS (owner of my two grand-cats), brought over his latest addition, and she is awfully cute (even though she's a dog).

This is my other Devon playing fetch. I actually had to work with this one to get him to do it. Joey just brought stuff to me.

Love the fetching kitties, Quinncat!!! We had a torti years ago that loved to do that. She also stole an oven mitt that was in the shape of a cat. Any time it was on the counter, she'd jump up and grab it. Had to keep it in the drawer so she wouldn't steal it. We eventually gave up and added it to her toy basket. That thing got ratty and torn over the years, but she loved it. Never played with another mitt or pot holder - just the cat one. Somehow they know...

Shepkitty, Thanks! waving back! Yes, love t!

Wren, Yep...that is what Shep was talking about. The Catgenie. I own it and love it! It was about $260. I top off litter every six months or so. (It does get tracked around the house but I have a robot vacuum for that...lol) I also buy the solution....but I don't mind one bit. Never have urine smell or have to scoop poop. It handles my four cats....

Quinn- Thanks! He is something else...The Devons look very cool and seem quite smart.

Fireheart- yeah...well it's Max (orange tabby) that is the bomber! He is such a spoiled pompous boy, let me tell ya. They are both Manx.

Icietla- Your pic cracked me up...as my kitties were all lined up at the window doing the exact same thing when I saw your post! Manx as well?

QuinnCat- Wow! How convenient! Mine never learned to fetch. He requires me to fetch his toys to throw them again for him after he has chased them down.

lessharp -- Yes. Bunny and his littermates were brought here at four days old, rescues from a breeder's crisis situation. This one had severe colorectal dysfunction, so we kept him and got the others adopted out. His rear end problems are not nearly so bad now, but still pretty bad. Bunny goes to Doctors more than I do.

Don't get me wrong, I love all cats and my first venture back into cat ownership since childhood was two female tuxedos. I still have one. She is 9 and the ultra grande dam. When I lost her friend at age 7, one internet search led to another for another rescue until I discovered this breed. I lived with a somewhat discordant and stressful relationship between my two rescues and I wanted only bliss with the next friend cat. This breed tends to be clannish. If you have more than one, they tend to form Devon piles and they just love other cats. They are very people oriented too. One of my mine tracks my every move - the other enjoys sleeping too much! It was one mutation in the late 60's in Devonshire that created the Devon Rex. For some reason, beyond my brain's ability to understand, along with the curly hair, they usually are fetchers! Go figure.

There seem to be a lot of Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest Cats around here. Lots of people from Norway and Sweden settled in my part of Seattle. I went to the bank once on Social Security check day and the entire line was speaking in other languages beside English. We also have a Nordic Heritage Museum which has interesting exhibits. I think both breeds are pretty comfortable outdoors in the winter.

Wren - I think Maine Coons and Persians are two of the most popular purebreds. I don't think Norwegian Forest Cats so much. We had an office cat that was just beautiful and had the silkiest long fur that did not matte. She was pretty feral when she first started coming around (she had a history per the Trap Neuter Return organization in town) and everyone loved her. Then came the litter boxes, then came the feeding, then came the hiding her from the downtown boss.....One night she didn't get locked back into the office and she never came back. She is the reason I ended up with my next two cats because I started looking at Norwegian Forest Cats, thinking Gizzy was one of those. One thing led to another and I ended up with purebreds.

I have no idea if Gizzy actually looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat now. Here she is, sweet Gizzy (Gizelda):

    Doesn't matter. She's adorable.

Cleaned cages today and got scratched when a wobbly kitten fell out of his lower cage and tried to cling to my hand. He's a cutie tho, so quickly forgiven.
