on my port (still covered by steri strips) I also have a straight cut an inch and a half or so and then a bump under my skin below it. It still feels weird a week later and it feels like it pulls when I turn my head in certain ways.

They access with a special needle put thru the skin. I have read that they may give you some numbing cream before the needle poke but I'm not sure.

I asked the anesthsiologist if i sexually harrased him, i tend to do that when under as hubby can attest, he just gave me a big smile and started chuckling

welcome Scotland and I will put you on the list!

First of all, while I am not going to complain, because honestly there is nothing yet to complain about too much, I am sure there will be! (I mean, the hair is going to go, and to me that is the worst), so I promise that my time to complain will come, and I will bring it here. And as others have pointed out, it really isn't complaining, you are helping those of us behind you along, and I hope we will help you!

The swallowing problem I was having seems to have resolved itself before I even got the spare minute to call the MO about it...had no problem with lunch, dinner, or all that water...and I say 'spare minute' advisedly: I waked a mile and a half today, and then put in a full day at work. pretty much pumped up on steroids to be honest. I was very productive at work, hope to be tomorrow, and then expect to crash Saturday (Day three) after the steroids leave my system. Other than slight heartburn that went away with OTC antacid, no stomach problems or GI tract problems at all so far, knock on wood. If I do get those, I won't be able to go to work, so trying to get as much as i can done while I can. I do think that exercise helps....I am getting the hiccups. A lot. What the heck is that all about?

First shot of neuprogen tonight, took a claritin, hope that does the trick.

Teacherhikermom, are you feeling better today? Edited to add: oh no!! These drugs must be having a worse impact on me than I thought: I somehow missed an entire page of posts, including yours Tessu, and yours Teacherhikermom. Sounds awful! I hope all you wonderful women all do well. Hugs to all!

OMG imagine me on the table, face covered in drapes, I start mumbling and everyone is rushing to uncover my face and they were all saying "she is talking, she is talking" only to discover that my subconscious mind (Viva papa Freud) was not dealing with the cancer but sexuality!!!

Admonkey, glad you are back at work! and yes, I also have developed a sensitivity to paper adhesive strips/tape...they can use other alternatives so definitely worth mentioning.

southerncharm - did you get a power port? they can use that for the ct contrast and they don't have to use a vein. They should use a lidocane spray on the bump where the port is, either above or below the scar. then the needle looks more like a push pin. ask for numbing spray if you don't see it. I was still sore yesterday and other than the cold spray I didn't feel anything.

I'm having a cup of ginger tea and then listening to my cd's and going to bed. I got the kids sleepovers tomorrow in anticipation of not feeling well tomorrow night /Saturday morning.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow and feel better vibes to those who are having rough SE's.

This morning (after I fell asleep again at 5:30 then got up at 8:30 am:

    Me: Good morning.

Husband: Yuck, your face is all puffy.

Me: It's probably from the high-dose steroids I had to take.

(weighed myself --- up exactly 2kg from yesterday morning before chemo. Probably combi of water (been hydrating as much as my stomach and bladdr will take!) and maybe slowing bowel?)

Good morning. I made it through another horrible night. This bone pain is mean. I hope everyone else is doing OK. I was up and down all night peeing. I peed out that 7 pounds I gained so that's good i guess, but I didn't get much sleep. I'm calling this morning about the bone pain. Also the skin on my upper back and neck feels sunburned. I can't even touch it. And my hair hurts. I don't know if I can do this 3 more rounds.

We should get to pick the SEs. I'd rather have vomiting than bone pain and stomach pain. And I'll take fatigue over headache and skin pain. It should be like jeopardy. SEs for $500 Alex!

Hi octo I debated this and hubby said no way he would have me balling my eyes out with chunks of hair in my hand. He made the executive decisiin that we will both get a shave this weeekend AND he will not wear a wig just me!

And word of advice: do not have the port one day and the next chemo, give a few days for healing before chemo. Mine was less than 24 hrs ago and it hurt when it connected.

Bejesus I just sneezed and gave myself a bloody nose! The good news is the bone pain has moved a level down to intense ache. Perhaps a light in the tunnel?

Hope it is going well Flower. I'm headed to the doc's in about 3 hours. I bet the port did hurt. Mine was really sore the next day. It's still a little tender today after a full week.

Ugh , Annie. I how the bone pain is on it's way down. That's been one that I've been fearful of.

I read to use saline spray in your nose regularly to help with the nosebleeds.
