Well I went to surg's office and like I thought, infection not looking better than when he saw me last Fri so port sx off for tomorrow. Have a fu to see him next Fri to see if all clear before I reschedule. I see Kilaru ps tomorrow about getting stronger abx. I"m thinking since I called him after he saw me and he was with another pt, he just said ok without really remembering me. So glad I did go get a final check otherwise I would be tying up people for nothing, as well as myself.

Annie - your wig looks so natural! I would never guess it's not your hair! You look beautiful!

i just ordered one that exactly like the cut I had on my natural hair. 30% off wigs.com. that's it. I'm not buying anything else for my head!

Annie, your wig looks great. I love Patti from Patti's Pearls. I went to her for my wigs. She is a 15 year stage 4 colon cancer survivor (hate that word), and is as sweet as she can be. She said she is permanently bald from chemo, but she does the wig look great, I would never know looking at her. My friend found her and we went together and had Jack Daniels during my wig fitting. I absolutely love Patti!

That is awesome! I love Patti. I wish I could go to Cali to have her do my wig.

Annie I love your wig. It looks so good and I never would have thought it's a wig just to see you in it.

Love all the cute headwear I've seen on you ladies, I may have to do a little more shopping!

Well I finally felt like my old self (minus hair) today. One of the ladies I work with asked what I did to get my hair to look so cute, so hard not to laugh...I just told her I had it highlighted since my normal hair is almost the exact same as my wig just a touch darker.

I am glad I got my hair buzzed when I did as the salon is an hour away from where I live and I have been told by several people that post second chemo I will be baldin quickly. So far mostly the top of my head is shedding but I had such thick hair I probably could have lasted another few days. For me it was easier do so I'm not missing work to get my hair and wig fixed up. I miss enough days from SE from the infusions.

Hope everyone is having a good day with manageable side effects

Has anybody had the cancerous breast turn pink after your infusion? I was getting ready to take a shower and noticed pink on just the breast with the tumor. It only covers the area around the tumor. I was feeling a little stinging pain there today but just figured the chemo was doing it's thing.

fidget- I would report this to your MO and not assume. Better safe than sorry. Hopefully it's nothing. :)

Southern, that seems to be the way it goes for me. Day 7 is kind of the "I've turned the corner!" day, it would appear. At least we know how it works now, and the thing that held me together during day 4 and my Horrid Day 5 is knowing that this improves pretty markedly in a couple of days. <3

And while I was in the bathtub the other night, rubbing off the majority of my hair, I shaved my legs for what might be the last time. There are a few stragglers I missed but I may just let them fall out on their own. It's the one nice thing about this--my legs do look great! LOL I strongly believe that, as a consolation prize for going through chemo, we should get to pick a body area that does NOT have the hair return. I'm voting for my legs.

I second the vote for legs. I shaved them for what I figured would be the last time at my second chemo last wed, but the stubborn buggers have sprouted a few sticker hairs that feel like hairs (or it could just be dry skin). I just can't see clear due to burry eyes( thanks Chemo for that).

Southern like you I also got my period this week-ugh Well at least a version of it, with light spotting. Wth I thought at 45 chemo would finish that off.

Twiggy love the someecards too. They are my fav on Pinterest.

Fidget hope you got an answer from your MO's office.

Lila-Claire I love your idea for adding a headband to scarves and hats. I'm gonna try it. Hope you have minimal SE's from your 2nd infusion. I am on the same regimen also and am a week ahead of you.

Annie I like your wig. Is that a Hogwarts tee I spy? Love it.

    edwsmom aww feel better.

    Happy birthday, flower!!!

Liz, don't be too afraid of red devil. I was advised to suck on ice chips during the push, and it really does seem to help minimize the mouth sores, burns, and taste issues.

Happy Birthday Flower!!!! Hope it is an extra feel-good day for you!

Yay that you are feeling better today SouthernCharm.

CajunQueen: good luck on the infusion tomorrow. Here's to minimal side effects and killing cancer. Please let us know how it goes.

I confess that I usually wear pants and rarely shave my legs unless I am going to be in a bathing suit for an extended period of time...but I'd vote for legs too. I had an apt with my hairdresser to get buzz cut the other night that I cancelled: just not ready. Hair is shedding but it was very thick to start with so not noticeable yet. I know it is coming but am pretending it will never happen. Would like to make it through the weekend at least. My next tx is Monday. MO said it would be gone by then. Would love to prove him wrong...just to be ornery.....

    Hugs to all

Hey everyone. The redness is now just slightly pink. The MO's office doesn't think it is anything, but I have an appointment tomorrow morning just to be sure. They said to call back if anything crazy goes on before then. Their favorite saying is that a camp fire is easier to put out than a forest fire. Day three isn't too bad yet. Just a little tired with a slight headache.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Thanks for all the nice comments about my bone structure! Never thought my face was anything but a long french nose! the scarfs are so much fun and easy to tie.

Sounds like we are all learning to manage the SEs better after 2nd chemo. had mine yesterday, woke up at 5 and at 10 am still feel awake! Good news is I created a daily chart to keep up with so many meds and supplements as well as activities. I was worried about chemo brain kicking in and I would forget to take something or do something. even though I keepp a calendar on my Ipad and a journal I felt the need to go to one place. So here is what I created as a Word doc: insert a chart 7 across and 7 down to start. I kept adding rows across as I added dates. My headings are: Date/Event, Meds/Supps, Fruit, Veggies (I drink a super green powdered drink 2-3 times a day) Exercise (steps per my Fitbit and Yoga) and SE or other comments.

I then filled in the dates including day# from chemo with any events, dr. appts. lab, shots, etc.In the meds/supp column I listed daily and as needed. On the days I need to take specific drugs I bolded those items. for example today I get my Neulasta shot so I bolded Clairtin and Dexamethazin steroid take this afternoon. on my tissue expander inject days I bolded Valium.

I like to plan and be organized although i am very right brained so this helps me alot. I would be happy to send this chart to anyone or answer questions. Post an email (is that allowed?) if you want a copy.

Wishing my warrior friends the strength to deal with the difficult and the courage to keep going!

Charm, I'm on the same chemo as you. Today is day 14 and my hair is coming out pretty heavily today. I was hoping to make it to the weekend before shaving it but I'm not sure I'm going to make it.

I'm still having a hard time accepting the baldness is really going to happen.

Ok, so now that I have the diarrhea under better control, my mouth is driving me CRAZY.

My lips and tongue are burning.

This morning I drank a smoothie for breakfast, which was about all I could do. The taste buds on my tongue are swollen, sticking out and hurt.

I don't mind not being able to taste anything, but I don't like the discomfort....

    Any tips?

    Edwsmom,

Try baking soda gargles. It worked for me. I was really miserable for a couple days. Your MO can also prescribe Magic Mouthwash. I got the prescription but didn't end up using it this time. Insurance might not pay for it though.

  • edwsmom
    edwsmom Member Posts: 270

Twiggy - how often have you been gargling? I've only been doing it 2x/day and in the last 24 hours is when it's gotten bad. Maybe I should be doing it more often?

  • AnnieB43
    AnnieB43 Member Posts: 724

the magic mouthwash isn't covered by insurance but it's less than $10. I used it 1 day and all mouth trouble was gone and I never gargled with anything again.
