So this morning I went to get the long, dark hair cut off. It's still not shedding, but it feels different, has become hard to brush, and is clearly staging a mutiny.

Here I am, sitting in my office yesterday.

And here's me and my buzz-cut husband.

    image

It's not quite a buzz cut. The friend who cut it is fabulous, and thought that this would be easier for me. She was right. The haircut was far less of an ordeal than watching Alabama wipe the field with Georgia. I only cried a tiny bit during the haircut. The 12 year old loves it. The 15 year old can't bring herself to look at me yet. She's going to walk into a wall if she's not careful. The heavy shedding should start in the next few days, so I'm going to enjoy this while I can. Thanks to all of you who have buzzed before me. This is so much better than the kitten in the trashcan.

My almost 10 year old has been really struggling with the idea. Good news: I think she was so scared that when I came home buzzed--she dealt way better than I thought she would because she'd built it up so much in her mind that it wasn't as bad in reality. I know dropping her at school Monday will be hard for her (and me!).

My older girl will be fine, I think. She claimed to be OK beforehand. I suspect that she needs a little more time to process the new look. I think that I'm more OK with the exit of the hair. I'm going to pack up all of the long hair accessories tomorrow. It's a strange new world.

    CarolinaAmy: happy birthday!

Teacherhikermom: I hope you're through the worst of it, and that you're starting to feel a whole lot better.

Annie: stay on that couch. I should have watched Harry Potter instead of the SEC horror show. I have Round 2 on Tuesday, and expect to be on the couch next weekend.

Jabe, I was trying to figure out why you were posting a picture of your hair. Had NO idea it was a wig!! It's really beautiful and absolutely natural!!

Scotland, your buzz is so stinking adorable. Flowers, could not be more proud of you for showing the real deal and giving the other ladies that reassurance and courage. Love you to pieces.

    Awww, thanks y'all!

Jabe, I didn't know it was a wig, either. Maybe this whole hair thing will be easier than we think!

I've felt pretty normal for the past few days, but I've stayed pretty close to home because of the low white cells. Please, please let them rebound for chemo Tuesday. The only thing I'm looking forward to about chemo is finishing, and I don't want to delay that

Annie, ask for numbing cream for the port. You won't feel a thing when they access it.

I've moved on to Doctor Who. There is no way in hell I can sleep. This is a worse ache than breast surgery. I've had enough. I'm just so upset at hurting all the friggin time! Ok end rant. I'm ok now.

mom - I'm trying Ambien and it is doing nothing. Also tried melatonin, exercise, and Ativan. Up all night is awful, I have 3 toddlers that get up before 7. Any suggestions?

Cajun my ASD kids take melatonin and benedryl together on bad sleep nights. It works pretty good.

I just saw the bday, happy birthday Carolina Amy!

Is anyone else struggling,to maintain and already too low weight? I just eat and eat until it hurts...to have lost 2 more pounds! I've had my thyroid checked twice this year, I'm at a loss. It just makes me look sicker to be so thin (even though I feel fine) and I'm tired of overeating. It started with my alkaline diet when I cut out sugar about 2 months ago. Once I'm bald, that's really going to be the last straw to looking like walking death,

thanks Annie, I haven't tried benadryl yet. Hugs!

Also, my port bothered me for 2 weeks and still does at night. I take An oxy occasionally since my surgeries' pain has been ramped up again after chemo. I think my,body is revolting.

Hi all - I am 6 days into my !st Round now…yawn yawnnnnnn…

So, was wondering (begging for tips) where we you at in the cycle from 6-9 days and any tips or change of med's to make life a bit sweeter?

Annie, I also took pain meds with the port and I iced it regularly. I had to sleep in the recliner for a few nights. Hopefully it will feel better Monday. You might try to ice it just before they want to access it. That's what I'm going to try since I haven't gotten the numbing cream. Even without the ice last time it was just a quick poke.

Shannon it got almost normal day 9.

Cajun are you counting calories? Clock your calories for a day. It might give you a direction to take. Remember to subtract the exercise to get an accurate count.

I'm loving everyone's hair (or lack of) pics.

    Jabe, your wig looks great.

Scotland, the short hair cut is awesome. It really suits you.

Charm, you are so courageous. That was a big change in two days.

I hope everyone struggling feels better soon!

I have round two on Monday and start taking the dex tomorrow morning.

Cajun, I also recommend trying Benedryl. Most of the sleep aids such as Unison are the same thing but maybe in higher doses. It has been helping me. Not perfect but better than nothing and. I'm trying to stay away from ativan if I can.

I'd like to try high doses of whiskey, but that's not recommended with chemo aparently. Go figure.

Annie - love. I'm not ashamed to say I miss alcohol which will apparently never comport with an alkaline diet.

I will start counting. I'd estimate at least 3k day.

Scotland - you're adorable. Same to you, Jabe!
Annie - I love Doctor Who. David Tennant did a fantastic job.
And anything written by Steven Moffat is genius!

    *Breathes* Ok, my turn...

I intended to go ketogenic but chemo hypnotizes me into eating ice cream and cookies. It's insidious.

Other than the lack of sleep, I've felt completely normal the past 4 days and my white blood cell count was up, so I even went to a children's bday party and am going back to work next week. Is the shit about to hit the fan after my next infusion? My hair can't have much longer (9 days in). When will the relentless fatigue and mouth sores hit? Feels like a ticking time bomb, tick, tock.
