LTF - I haven't had a bad taste in my mouth. I use a mix of coconut oil, sea salt, baking soda, and peppermint essential oil that I use instead of toothpaste about twice a day. I also have a mix without coconut oil that I scoop out with a little spoon into my hand and then dip my toothbrush to brush. Plus, I use a tongue scraper. For mouthwash I put a few drops of peppermint oil on my tongue, add water, and swish.

I did get mouth sores yesterday when I had slacked off of the mid-day brushing. Once I started back up, they went away quickly.

LTF- I have the yucky breath thing going too...I hate to admit it....but, normally shove a piece of chocolate in my mouth...then go brush my teeth 😉

Reflect- PatO's probably hasn't changed much since '78. Time kinda stands still there :-) hope you did well today...I'm feeling pretty good right now thanks to my steroids!

Frances- hoping the absence of the Perjeta is the trick for you to feel better NOW!

Well #5 went well today. However, I didn't get the EMLA cream on as well as last week for my port so ouch! Shocked But I survived LOL.

My right arm has been really sore lately. After chemo, (which I have in a satellite office), my MO sent me to the hospital to have an ultrasound to rule out blood clots. The tech saw nothing alarming, so it must just be sore or bruised? I had 6 lymph nodes removed Christmas Eve. i feel so much better now. When talking with our AVP at work, (he was signing my intermittent FML form), he mentioned his mother had been through breast cancer, and a clot had gone to her lungs. She is now on oxygen. I guess that was in the back of my mind.

Serenity, Asher, LtFly, or actually anyone else with Neulasta questions (or know-how?):

With hubby out of town for a few weeks, and without the ability to drive myself now, I'm about to get a Neulasta auto-injector (!?!) at my next infusion. Has anyone heard of this thing??

Well, look at that, they have a website! neulastahcp.com

LtFly: This medication they gave me for thrush (brand name Mycostatin) leaves a thick film of the worst Chemical Almond Horchata flavor in its wake! Not nearly as bad as the "licking the bottom of a fishtank" flavor I have at all other times...

LTF- I found a mouthwash made by Orajel that has antibacterial, hydrogen peroxide, and analgesic properties of menthol. I use it a couple of times a day and managed to get thrush under control wih it. It is minty flavored...

I don't have a bad taste just no taste buds except on the back/sides of my tongue...so everything is just bland...I kind of can taste tart and salty things but mostly food is becoming "meh" in the flavor dept.

Got that "whoa" shocked reaction when I bumped into a couple of people who hadn't heard and saw me today scarfed up. Ugh.

Jill, I understand re:kids completely. There have been a couple of times in my life's events I have gone through the same process. And it was always at March Break or Christmas.

I'm with you all who are in the throws of SEs and wishing you strength to endure. Question. I read about someone not using steroids to avoid weight gain. The SEs were no worse. Has anyone tried that? I'm slim everywhere except my muffin top will renamed Michelin soon.

Last night's supper changed to Italian on St. Patty's in a beautiful small ristorante where we all had the best impeccable service and were able to have amazing conversation.

My thoughts this morn on my appointment. They always call with good news. Did they wait because they know I'm coming to the cancer centre? Do I need a pet scan, biopsy, MRI ? Regardless, I'm doing an awareness video on FB about inflammatory breast cancer. It's a silent killer because it's diagnosed at stage 3 T4. There are survivors, imagebut people need to be aware it may not be a bug bite or infection. It's hard to diagnose early and it hurts. I was always told "if it hurts it's not breast cancer" I feel like you are all coming into the appointment with us this morning. As always, thinking of each and every one of you.

    Blessed be

    Piper 💗🎀

I have heard of the Neulasta self injector, I think it is a patch that goes on your arm, and is set automatically inject at the right time.

When I asked about it at my chemo clinic they had not heard of it, I guess it's not in Canada yet. I just do regular injection into my stomach, it is not difficult or painful.

Nothing gets rid of the taste for long, not sucking on candy brushing my teeth oil pulling etc. it actually doesn't bother me too much when I'm eating, I try to eat things that are strong tasting, as soon as I stop at comes back. When I look online I find lots of tricks for helping to eat, but not much about getting rid of the taste when you're not eating

Wow I had a lot of reading to catch up on! Been very tired this week. Think it is the combo of the time change and weather.

Saw my MO today. I get my 3rd FEC on Monday and then my regimen will change to Taxotere and Hercepton.

Showed my MO my neck which is still swollen from getting my port put in almost 6 weeks ago. We think it is soft tissue but he is sending me for an ultrasound anyways. My body definitely does not like this foreign object in my body. It burns, pulls and generally is uncomfortable. To date, this has for sure been the worst part for me. .....but then, I haven't got to Taxotere yet!

LTF I hope every day gets better for you. The weather here is definitely a contributor for my tired and blah feelings and I'm in my "good" week.

I learn so much on here. Every Sunday before my chemo I usually go out and buy a per cut fruit tray and bags of salad! No one warned me about this at all. I like the pre cut trays because of the variety and frankly the last thing I will want to do is cut it all up myself when I feel crappy. Now I don't know what to do. I actually lost a bit of weight between my last tx and today. That was a surprise since I have been tired and doing much of nothing!

Thank you for all the information you help me with. I also get the neulasta shot. 80 percent is covered by my private drug plan and the Victory program covers the rest. Had I not had insurance I was told I would have had to go,in each day for a shot for 7 days. I go in and have them give me the shot. It's close by and the last thing I want to do is mess up giving myself the shot when it's worth $2700.00!

Love the t-shirts, can't look back at it now but the one that caught my eye I believe was black and white with words. Lol ....that's all I can remember!

Thank you for all your posts. Although I don't post a lot please know that there are some of us quieter ones whom all your posts are helping too! Hugs to you all

good Morning Fellow Fab Febs! All is well here today with very few SEs to report! going wig shopping with DH today. I've been resisting but we have an event on Sat that neither one of us feels like explaining anything about my current state so I'm going incognito. Hoping to get something that looks close enough to my previous cut. I told DH that with a wig, if anyone asks, they're just plain rude.

So my answer these days when advice is given and I have no intention of following it is " thanks, I'll keep that in mind" it does the trick, no hurt feelings and its also code to DH that I'm really rolling my eyes. We shoot each other a look of " ugh, not again..." But it's actually funny now.

I'm going to spend the weekend gardening and knitting while I feel good.. Wed. Is chemo #3 so it's nice to have a few days off before then.

Sending hugs and healing vibes to you all and hoping you're feeling a little better!

    enjoy the weekend Myra!

    Blamoms- you're almost done!! 💪🏻👊🏻

Ltf- are you feeling better? I use nicotine too and slacked a bit and bam! Mouth sore!

Elise- I share the same low BP issues and I have the same reaction to AC. Finally feeling better but I spent 4 days in bed after the first and second. They told me tiredness and SE's get cumulative. Oh joy!

Soooo.... The whooping cough kid spent the entire night in bed, sick as a dog and missed the wedding. So glad I didn't go.

Heading to our vacation home in NH for the weekend. Mountains, a roaring fire and happy dogs running in the woods decompresses me like no other. Hopefully I have the energy for a walk or a hike;)

Piper - sending good vibes to you this morning.

Nolagirl - sending lots of prayers for your sister. I also have the yucky breath, metal mouth test going on. love to find a cure for that!

06Elise - Hang in there girl!

I had a hydascan today to test my Gallbladder - I really hope that is what the problem is so we can move on, fix the issue and get through this.

Today is my sweet Ella's 8th Birthday - So glad that it is a good day for me and I can celebrate with her.

Lucky to have all of you to talk to! Thankful everyday for this group..

A tongue scraper does help with the film on your tongue. It cleans the crevices on your tongue better than a toothbrush. I started using it recently when I couldn't get rid of that film. Noticed a difference within the week.

Piper - I didn't take all the steroids after my treatment, and I was OK. But please go by how you feel.

KarenC - My port is a bit uncomfortable sometimes after 1 1/2 weeks, but nothing like you're experiencing. Glad your neck is getting checked out. I tend to avoid pre-cut fruit after getting really sick from eating them while pregnant. I think there's a preservative that didn't agree with me. I'm OK with frozen fruit. We have a whole pineapple that I've asked my husband to cut tonight. Your dog is adorable! My 26-lb dog climbed into my lap just now so I have to reach for my laptop. They do make us feel better. Here's my sweet pup:

ALL, I wish someone had said this to me, since I was so painfully aware of the dangers of mouth sores that I failed to recognize it:

If you get a sore throat -- even just a scratchy throat -- the FIRST thing you should suspect is thrush!

LTFly, here's a twist (of lemon?) for you: So... in order to kill the thrush, I was thinking "why not take a little sip of some strong liquor?" We're not talking about shooting tequila here; rather, just taking in enough vodka to coat my mouth and trickle down my throat.

One day (and less than one tall shot of booze) later, and my throat is feeling great (!) without the yucky Rx flavor! I have a flavored vodka, and it's even helping to remove that constant fishtank flavor in my mouth! Best antiseptic treatment ever!

    SillyHeart

I highly recommend it for any non-tea-totalers out there!

MLP3 (& maybe Piper?), I didn't realize it at the time, but the nurse practitioner sent me home with an extra day of steroids for next week's infusion!

Apparently three days of sleep is "normal", but they decided five days is just too long... presumably because it caused dehydration this cycle.

    We shall see! soon enough!

    Hopping in your pocket Piper!

Elise- First round I was in bed 4 days. This second round it was 5 days. But there was no cause for concern as long as I kept up with my fluids.

Ltf- I've been eating oranges and carrots. It's funny because I can't find an appetite to make my go-to immunity juice. I've just had to surrender to the fact that I need to get over what I used to eat and treat my body with. And then listen to what it wants... Within reason;) Sucks but I know it's all temporary. So glad to hear that you're feeling better😊

Piper- I'm thinking about you this morning and praying above everything that they find no cancer. ❤️

Chambo- I went out and got that Oraljel mouthwash and it's working! Yay!

Nola- I hope that your sisters biopsy is clear. I think this whole ordeal can spark some PTSD in us all. ((Hugs))

Deaconlady- sending no blood clot prayers your way. That's great you're almost done! I've had a couple times they've accessed my port and didn't numb it right and I nearly shot out of my chair.

Elise- your horchata flavored comment had me rolling. 😂 I hope you got the self injector figured out.

Blamoms- that's great you're almost done! Wooohooo!

Karen- that port problem sounds frustrating! Cute dog!

Myra- glad your SEs have subsided! Have fun wig shopping. I agree anyone who asks is just rude.Gardening & knitting sounds so nice!

LTF- glad you're feeling better and that fever broke!

Serenity- is that a border collie? Looks so sweet.

You all were not joking with this fatigue. Whew! I felt like I was in bed all day yesterday. Nausea is better this time. Dh gave me Neulasta last night. So far no bone pain. Yay!

Thinking of you all today! Hope yours is a blessed, healthy Friday

piper so cute. Hope the mri is clear.

Thanks all. I don't think it's thrush, just a gross taste in my mouth that doesn't go away. There's no coating. I will look for the Orajel mouthwash.

Took my daughter for vegetarian sushi today, I could barely taste it :

Me and my Bryson at my 3rd AC tx today. He loves touching my Velcro head! Doesn't hurt anymore thankfully so expect the rest to make a mass exodus soon.

My daughter just got diagnosed with prob Flu but maybe Strep have to wait for results to confirm and Tamiflu sold out til tomorrow am. Seriously. Will be isolating her to other areas of house or I wear a mask but I've already been exposed.

My doctor office says to see if fever (when I told them she prob had strep) they are closed now and I hate to call after hours when we don't know for sure). May wait till tomorrow. Every damn treatment something happens. Last time dog had seizures. Son had problem at school.

And there goes my NCAA tournament bracket with Michigan State losing.....crazy upset. It's a nice distraction from cancer life

Oh, Piper, when is MRI scheduled? Have you had one before? I didn't have any trouble with the process...just a bit of relaxing breathing needed, but HEY we have Ativan now so it's all good.

I love your new friend--does she have a name? I picked mine up today and she looks good. DD Emma will shave me tonight (if I have energy) and I'll post with and without photos. Hair coming out in fistfuls. Oddly hard to resist yanking some out now and then.

Back in your pocket dear. Ready for whatever comes. (((Hugs)))

yes I have had one reflect. It was to check my spinal compression fracture for mets. Clear, but fractured to point of pain a lot of the time. I remember thinking "what if the release doesn't work?" "What if it catches fire?" I am receptor positive so that counts in my favour. That said I've been a "very unique case" since day one. My MO asked me today what she could do better. What an amazing woman she is. She also told me is proud of me.

Had a call on machine when got home. MRI will be Monday after pre chemo. Need it done before red devil Tuesday!
