Some people throw them on the grill, but I would boil them first to remove any unwanted bacteria. Then I would grill them. There are some recipes on the internet. I don't cook them, but I have cooked them before. Sweet Baby Rays is the bomb for bbq sauce.

I haven't done ribs in an age, but I will say that it's marinade time. My favorite was a Chinese-inspired one, but alas, I don't have the recipe other than to say that it featured soy sauce, oyster sauce, root ginger, garlic, wine, and honey. It needs to sit on the ribs for an hour or so, and then you roast on slow heat either in an oven, or better, on the grill. Serve with the usual summer BBQ suspects.

I did the office purge today and so glad that's all behind me. I get my new, old work computer back tomorrow, so that will be a day of catchup. Fortunately, the hard drive was unaffected, and Staples was able to transfer the files. I did all the updates and the Windows 10 upgrade.

I am getting excited about my trip to New England. Need to start packing. I have done the first step which was to get my suitcase out. Now, I need to fill it with padding for the 3 bottles of wine that I will be taking.

Steak with purple asparagus, dried oyster mushrooms from my run for the sauce, thinking squash, and a potato. The squash could change though.

Glad to be in the waning hours of May 2018! - Claire

Claire, can you ship your wine out ahead of time? I don't know that I would trust putting them in a suitcase because of breakage. Congrats on the office excavation!!

I haven't made ribs in a long time, not on my diet any more, but my NC husband loved them back when we did eat them, so for me Michelle's suggestion of boiling is spot on. I boil to get rid of the excess fat and actually do most of the cooking. Then the time on the grill is fast and the marinade or BBQ sauce is less likely to flare up. TT

Oh my gosh, Varga. Major prayers your way.

Off to the ballet this evening. Can't wait for my vacation. - Claire

Edited to add that I realize that the way to transport wine is my old computer sleeve plus bubble wrap. It should be nice and secure, and it will fit fine into my suitcase!

So I have decided to try this, but I can try to boil first and I already have the Sweet Baby Rays so will use that instead of making the sauce.

So I know it's not exactly a positive and uplifting message but, have you ever freeze framed a part of your life and realize nobody else in the world is doing this right now... I was helping my daughter move her stuff out of her apartment. She's babysitting for a friend's rats. Which I don't like anyway. But, as we were carrying the cage out it broke and one of the rats got out. We are currently in the parking lot of the apartment as this rat goes from under car to under car to under car.... we've been out here for about an hour and we cannot get it.

I have to say that I haven't chased rats, or at least not yet Winking

I got in a half day or work, some trip preparation, and a leisurely 20 mile ride in the sunshine. Feel relaxed and great. I am doing 60 miles tomorrow, so even if I'm not exactly svelte for my HS reunion, I will be super fit. I need to pack tonight. I have already started, or at least the wine bottles are in the computer sleeve.

I stocked up on essentials such as fun summer sodas and laundry detergent. Still have another supermarket run.

I think it's time to sit on my deck with a lemonade or similar. - Claire

GK, I think that all of the time.....for example, I had to go to a house where a cop was sitting outside waiting to breathalize college juniors. I took him huge sandwiches and a giant cookie. Told the kids to stay in the house, until he went on a bathroom break and then leave. There were 30 or so college students. He asked me what bureau I was with, and I told him M.O.M. He left for a potty break and everyone scattered. No one was beside themselves drinking and some kids walked home a few blocks away.

Claire, I am with you on the chasing of rats...no, ugh, no.....

Bought a jar for lemonade with a spiget. Made Crystal Light with real lemons tonight....Yumm

Varga, where ever you are at, I have been thinking of you since your last post.

Well it was an unsuccessful rescue attempt. : ( The little critter climbed up into the mechanics of a car. Food, bedding, it's cage mate on a leash and a 4 hour stake out waiting, nothing helped. I feel horrible. Not going to be able to sleep and dont even have my sleep aid. I didnt make it to the pharmacy due to all the hub ub. Going to be one LONG night.

I FROZE today, but fortunately was able to complete the 60 mile training ride I had planned. I was dressed for high 60s with some sun, whereas it was low 50s and raining. I stopped for a (delicious!!!) burger and sat under the heat lamps using the fries to warm my numb fingers on the way back. A long, slow uphill after that so I could keep my core temperature up. Then, things got a bit warmer and the rain stopped until almost the end.

Needless to say, it was bathtub time when I finally made it back to my place. Had the car heater on full blast when driving back.

I feel the burn in my thighs, and have to say that I could see the benefits of my training.

I need to get it in gear for my trip, but I always to manage to bring what I need. The big one is the Alumni Banquet outfit which I will pull from my closet tonight. Plus, all the other primping essentials. My goal is fabulousness. I have to say that my skin looks fabulous at the moment with all the rain and chill. Not to mention that well-oxygenated.

Salmon and asparagus for dinner. Fingers are still defrosting. Nothing like a bit of triumph over adversity. - Claire

60 miles? I do good to bike even one without wearing out. You Go Girl!! I did walk about 25 flights of stairs at work today. I was proctoring tests on two floors. So every 5 or -0 minutes I was up or down the stairs. For 2 1/2 hours. Whew

Having a wonderful time in New England. Landed early Wednesday morning, found the car rental, and got to travel the tunnels in rush hour traffic. I stopped at the Worcester Art Gallery which has a splendid collection of Old Masters. Did the Norman Rockwell Museum yesterday. I had no idea of the influence of European painting on his work, but in retrospect it's so obvious. Great fun.

Lots of New England seafood and wine as my friends have quite the cellar going. Also got to see quite a number of small towns, including Stockbridge MA. Had lunch at the Red Lion Inn which dates back to 1786. Some buildings date from the mid 1700s. Gorgeous antiques in the Inn, not to mention delicious food.

Off to Vermont in a bit. Dinner with my classmates is on for this evening at a ribs place. Breakfast is leftover lobster and local strawberries. Hope to get to cycle along Lake Champlain. Life is good. Let the adventures continue! - Claire

Hi to all crisscrossing this great country of ours. Just came back from my Milwaukee jaunt and a brief stay in Oak Brook, IL (outside of Chicago.) Tried to time our return to the storms crossing over Illinois. The Bead and Button show in Milwaukee was really good, and I got first dibs at late 1800's buttons. I wanted to find a great horse button, but found a greyhound sporting button and an elk sporting button which was made in Paris. I want to find a button with a race horse type face, to make an imprint in silicone and cast my own sterling pieces.

It was alot of fun, but everything that I went through in the last several months has taken a toll on me. I have to dig deep to get my groove back, including trying to diffuse a sciatica type issue. Tuesday is another massage, which I might tag an acupuncture session onto later in the week. I am so ready to have fun this summer.

    Hugs to all....

Had a great time at the wedding. I have three doctors appointments tomorrow see my breast surgeon at 9 a.m.,my oncologist at 11, and getting my zoladex shot at 11:30. I'm going to discuss going off the zoladex with my MO. I am going to be 53 in July and just have a hunch that I really am menopausal. So I should be just fine on the AI alone without the zoladex. Of course you never know until you try all going off of it, but I just think it's time. If you guys could pray I make the right decision there. I've also been seeing a chiropractor about some lower back pain and I know she wants to discuss that with me which is really the main reason for the appointment in the morning.

GK, I really understand the low back pain. I have to stretch my back out and walk alot to keep the pain at bay. I have one of those seat cushions with the tailbone cut out that I use in my car. Acupuncture/cupping/massage seem to be the best for treating my ailments. Are you able to take Tamoxifen (forgive me I asked that already)? I believe there are less side effects in the long run for those taking Tamoxifen. I have some osteopenia in my hips, so the AI was not going to work for me. Lovely pictures.

Every summer, I start thinking about lumpectomy vs. mastectomy. My diagnosis date was Aug 1, 2016 and it is constant reminder of decisions still in limbo. I have very dense breast tissue, in both breasts, and 19 titanium clips in one breast, plus hardened tissue from radiation. Sometimes, especially when pre existing conditions are being tossed around in politics, this issue is brought to the forefront for me. I learned today that my oncologist is retiring, and I am not sure whom I am going to choose to work with next. I did put in a call to my breast surgeon about how I am feeling and will discuss with her at some point this summer. I need a pros and cons list. So, girls, please help me put one together.

    Pros Cons

    Dense breasts Major surgery

    No more mammograms Recovery time

Matching breasts Not my own breasts

A little less worry Long term pain and consequences

Getting it paid for Pre existing condition protection could eliminate me from insurance coverage

Better looking upper body Lack of feeling (is it long term?)

that's a tough one Michelle and a deeply personal decision based on how you feel or think about things. Sometimes I too second-guess my treatment decisions. But in general, I am content with my decision to have a lumpectomy and radiation. I just feel like my breasts are such a big part of who I am that I'm afraid once I cut them off I would deeply regret it and possibly feel hacked up and have depression. I probably would only do it if it came back and I absolutely had to. My understanding is that a mastectomy does not increase survival rates. Nor does it take the chance of recurrence down to zero. They can never fully get all of the breast tissue out of there. And if you have reconstruction of any type I would think that would make ongoing surveillance difficult. I have the dense breast tissue too and so I know surveillance from that aspect is difficult but I can't imagine having to try to look at things through a reconstruction or flap of some sort.

I am back home after a fabulous time with a major epiphany about how much imagination has shaped my life. This, when explaining to other visitors to Moss Glen Falls about the huge mill house that once stood there. By the time I was growing up, it was quite haunted. Not to mention the glory of the falls themselves, and the mica shiest rock that's there. It was so fun to break off a piece and look at its brilliance, prior to breaking it to bits.

Also very odd being the glamorous one there, which certainly wasn't true when I was younger. One of the men who is the younger brother of a classmate who died young (smoking in bed) was quite taken with me. Another former neighbor and classmate was beyond touched that I had come, but quite disappointed that someone who lives relatively close didn't. I learned later that he really wasn't comfortable facing his former classmates as no longer the golden boy.

On my way there, I stopped in Burlington VT and was able to rent a bicycle and cycle the trail that wends its way along the Lake Champlain waterfront. I couldn't go quite to the end as there has been some trail erosion from a recent storm, but I did get to see amazing views. So worth it, and I got to see the island where my grandmother was born. Hope to do the entire 40 mile loop that includes 3 ferries one day.

I did the cemeteries where seven generations of my family are buried, paying homage to all, and also staking out a final resting spot for myself. I don't intend to need it soon, but once again, I feel that is where I should be laid to rest. (Though the other cemetery has better views of the mountains.)

I am so glad that I stopped in Portsmouth NH on the way back. On the whole, it dates from earlier than Boston, and has a very interesting history. Not to mention great seafood, including lobster. The Airbnb across the harbor in Kittery ME, had a water view and the most fab place. I got to do the tour of Warner House which dates back almost 4 centuries. The church (St John's) there is very Christopher Wren, and not at all New England style.

Ended with my sister and her husband. I am so glad that I got to see their place which is still being repaired from recent tree damage. I liked most her work area which is really a quilting workshop.

HATED the rental car, and managed not to do it or me damage from punching it out on several occasions. I was thrilled to turn it in just before 7 this morning. Really long day, as was up at 4 ET and traveled 12 hours.

On fabulousness.....it paid off big time. I was the most glamourous at the Alumni Banquet, and a number of people told me how great I looked and how much they were enjoying what I wore. I also looked and felt at least a decade younger than most of my classmates. Not to mention that I define "adventure" a bit differently.

So fabulousness it is, with the caveat to make sure that I keep the imagination well stoked. Promise pictures later. - Claire

    Pictures, pictures, pictures.....

Girls, Today I called my obgyn and found out that I have extremely dense breast tissue and that I have gotten notices after each mammogram. That is true, but I did not know how dense I was and what that meant. In the breast that had breast cancer, I have 19 clips on one side, several on the other, and they are lumpy. This topic of breast removal and reconstruction is weighing on my mind.

    Insights?

Michelle, before my BMX my breasts were so dense that when I went for my MRI guided biopsy several years ago I bent 3 needles. Boobs of Steel Is what my doctor and I called them. Nothing ever showed up on mammo for me, even this last spot that was the catalyst for surgery and treatment and the whole fun almost year it has been. I found my spots myself. Ultrasound didn’t show my other two but this one showed up. Mostly because it was so close to the skin. When the time came for me to talk to my BS about what we needed to do after my lumpectomy, I was ready to be done with them. I certainly get where you are coming from. I decided to go the BMX and recon route. (The Remove and Replace program is what I call it). I have a rich family history of BC but I wasn’t ready to just go flat. It took me years to be ready to make that decision, but I think it was the right one for me
