What a great hike lwrite! Sounds beautiful!
My exercise was a 20 minute fast walk in the rain and then did 3 flights up and down of a 45 step stairway. I teach a yoga class later today and that will suffice for my day. I had treatment last Thursday and it hit me a little harder than usual but I'm trying to notlet it stop me.

Today was a day of disappointments and frustrations. When I got home I considered spending the evening with television, potato chips, and my bad mood, but I chose yoga class instead! I thought of you guys here and made the better choice! Yay me. Yay us!

Shetland- so sorry you had such a frustrating day- you definitely made the right choice with the yoga class. I did a yoga class also-made some cookie choices later however.

Shetland, yay all around! Nkb, yay for yoga and cookies. Yesterday was a cookie day for me as well but today it's all gone so sticking to chocolate.

Everybody is so active on this thread. I am sorry to have been gone so long. Got very busy with medical issues and time got away from me.
I have been active while away, mostly walking outdoors since the weather has improved. I usually aim for between 20 to 60 minutes most days.
I will try to be more present going forward though and rooting everyone on.

Hi Mara - I think we all come and go. We don't forget anyone here, but it is certainly a pleasure to find your post today.
Shetland - Yay you.
Continue to walk a lot. Need to get in some yoga and core and body weight as my back hurts. Walking is not enough. But the main thing I need is to chill in a nice hotel room today. Started treatment yesterday. Went as well as it could but I am still shaken from doing a round with the beast. I get by mostly by pretending this is not happening. However, my last scans showed progression. I am back in the ring with this thing.

Z-Stay strong friend! Your research has prepared you for this.
DG-Walking,stairs and yoga sound awesome!
Heidi-love the hiking photo!!
Shetland- Yay for yoga...it totally offsets Disappointments.
Today When the yoga instructor asked the class to let go of something that's holding us up it was hard to know what to choose. Today it was money. What the heck-can't seem to hold on to it anyway
Mara- It's good to see you!!
Short hike tonight then a nice dinner with DD2. Ahhhh.
Cookie therapy tomorrow with company coming to town. They don't know it, but they will be active while they are here More trails!!!

Z, while you're there you could ask your doctors about forest bathing therapy. It may be a good complement to your treatment. It could also help with the stress of being in the ring.
Nkb, no drone just DH who lost his footing while taking the photo but luckily stayed on the ledge and held on to the camera.
Mara, great to see you back!
Iwrite, that money seems to have its own mind. Love the way you'll surprise your guests.
Rest day yesterday as I had major muscle soreness from the hike.

Well, I did enjoy some TV and potato chips later in the evening, but it was in a better frame of mind and having done some exercise that day. One of the disappointments was that I didn't get to walk in a forest as planned!
Thanks for linking the interesting article on forest bathing, Heidi. I was assuming it was simply contact with nature that is helpful, but "Li said the increase in NK activity can be attributed partly to inhaling air containing phytoncide, or essential wood oils given off by plants." So does that mean forest is better than desert or ocean? Or maybe sagebrush and sea spray have their own way of increasing NK activity. What about a flower garden?
Nice to hear from you, Mara.

Oh yes yes yes. We are bathing every day in beautiful onsen and it helps. No forest bathing yet, that is next week. But there are onsen in every hotel we stay at. I am surprised they find natural hot spring water in the middle of these cities, but I supposed these sites are very old even if they have new hotel on them.
Bathing is a thing here for sure.

After dealing with stage iv for over six years, I am finally addressing "fitness". Arimidex makes my joints and feet ache. Arthritis doesn't help. I have steadily gained weight since beginning the meds.
A bunch of different factors came in to play this summer, and I became determined to start a walking program. I have walked 45 - 60 minutes twenty days each month since July. I don't say "five days a week" because sometimes things come up to prevent that schedule from happening (like my mil being hospitalized after a heart attack). So, my goal is 20 days a month. Sometimes I walk a few more days than that, but at least 20.
I walk despite the pain. Arthritis strength Tylenol is sometimes my best friend (allergic to ibuprofen). I put the walking as first priority, and organize the housework, grocery shopping, laundry and whatever else around my walking.
And I cut back on the amount of food I eat.
I have lost 15 pounds!
My husband's employer has a healthy living program with financial incentives. The spouses can earn a little money, too. I completed a 15 minute health assessment on line and attended a company health fair one morning and earned enough to buy myself a Fitbit Alta HR. I've had it now for about a week and it is a nice incentive to keep active.

Nice going, DivineMrsM. I like that you set an achievable goal. When I first started walking I would often forget, so I changed my goal to three days per week instead of seven. That seemed to take the pressure off and made me feel more successful, and eventually I got up to walking six or seven days per week. (Now I do more dancing and less walking.) Also, it's great that your exercise has a priority place in your schedule. I find scheduling it helpful, too.

Shetland, I agree, we should not pressure ourselves to try to fit into a strict regimen that sets us up to feel like we are failing.
I have a monthly calendar and I mark the days that I walk, "walked". I keep the calendar in a small drawer in the coffee table by the sofa where I always sit. I like pulling the calendar out and seeing visualy how many days I've walked.
I weigh myself every morning (naked). I also mark that on the calendar.
I didn't know if I would lose weight or even how much I could lose by walking. I don't have a weight loss goal. But I am glad to maintain what I have lost and not regain. I don't feel guilty like I used to when I eat a small bowl of coffee ice cream, or a brownie. I just don't gorge on the stuff like before; I'm trying to keep to small portions.

Devine- Way to go! Losing 15# is hard- but, I think a really meaningful amount for your health and well being. I know I sound like a broken record about the yoga-but, I really think that it has been a life saver for me. Between the muscle affects of the chemo and the joint issues of the arimidex, I was in a lot of pain. Especially if I sat for like lunch with a friend or in the car- I could barely get out of the chair. I love the feedback from Fitbit-keeps me motivated. Bravo!

Well if it isn't the DEEvine Ms. M here on the the fitness channel. Welcome. I walk my tail off and still gain weight at the moment, but I am sure that not walking would make things worse. Yoga is awesome but needs to be approached with moderation if you have bone mets. Basically, some teachers and practices are very into pushing your range of motion but with bone mets you need to dial that back. Many other benefits to yoga so with that caveat, I second the yoga suggestion. Now if I could only follow my own advice.... I do feel awesome when I do it. Unfortunately you have to do it, not just advise other people to do it, or you don't get the benefit.

Shetland, I thought it was amazing that the elevated NK cell activity could last 30 days. That is powerful stuff. There must be a cumulative effect. I seem to recall that they certify forests as suitable for forest bathing by taking a blood sampling and measuring natural killer cell count. Also forest bathing modalities are covered by insurance. I think it must be a combination of factors apart from phytoncides (oxygen, forest microbiome, awe, relaxation) that are at work.
Divine, love the method to your fitness. Congrats and welcome! My insurance company has an app and you can accumulate points to buy sports stuff on their online portal. I was tempted but I don't like that they will have my personal data on a daily basis. OK, I had two days in a row of not getting my heart rate up.
Z, the onsen pool I used to go to (which has now closed) was not natural. According to their brochure they added the minerals every morning. I always tried to get there early to maximize mineral absorption.

illimae,
Sorry to hear about the pain in that darn big toe, but glad you had the nail removed hopefully the pain will go away soon. I too have been getting few steps in due to being extremely tired. I am trying to get back in step but each day presents new challenges...
Keep moving...

haha, zarkova, doing yoga is more beneficial than giving others advice to do yoga!
Finding the right fitness routine certainly helps. Dh and I had 10 speed bicycles that we used years ago and then took up space, unused, in the garage for a long time. I always hoped to get back in to bicycling but finally, knowing I couldnt do it any more, and with some sadness, we sold them this spring, along with a huge amount of other stuff in a garage sale. What happened was that getting rid of what we no longer used opened me up to new possibilities.
There is apparently a connection with decluttering and losing weight, and Peter Walsh offers insight in his book "Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight."0 -
No activity for me today but will resume tomorrow after meet new RO. We are checking spot in my surgical bed that is thickening and they are worried about me developing another tumour. Not going to panic yet since I have no symptoms, will keep active while waiting to see what is going on.
Hope everyone else has a good day. You all are awesome.
Divine Ms M, so glad to see you. I feel like I know you from all the other threads I have followed, even the ones that don't apply. It is good to see you as well
Z, wouldn't it be nice if we could get the physical benefit from fitness advice. I would be an athlete for sure.

Sit in a forest and give out the advice.
Oooo, Heidi, microbiome. That's another good point. For the last month I have had a craving to go and sit for hours watching the sea or the wind in the trees. Like I would go there and rent a cottage if I could.
Mara, remaining calm, good for you.

Ronnie, all better now, the toe issues are resolved and I've kicked my steps back up to 10,000. Now, I just have to get back to losing some extra weight and strength training I have another 5k later this month, hoping for some cool temps for outdoor walks.

Hi everyone! Been keeping active and glad to see you all have been too. Z, that is lousy about progression. Hope the new treatment is successful and not too hard.
I am part of a Facebook group where this month everyone is challenged to go out in nature each day and then post a photo and why you found that image meaningful. It has gotten me outside every day this week and has made me choose new routes for walking to find new photos and gets me focused on seeing all the beauty around me. I had this thought today that I should share those pics with all of you!
Here is the one for today. A reminder that there is often beauty in change.

Z, I am sorry for your progression as well.
I too am dealing with some progression in my brain. Two new lesions appeared. They are tiny so we are watching the area since I have no symptoms. Thankfully I will not be asked to do WBR again and they will be zapped at some point. They are being treated as a local recurrence of my brain met since they are in the same area.
Did a ton of walking to work out some of the stress which is working well. I feel physically well as I am still NED below the head.
DG, awesome photo. I like walking around different areas myself, see what is what.

Mara, I'm glad to know you feel well, are mostly NED, and have a plan. Mae, glad you are back on the trail again.
DGHoff, the nature photo idea is marvelous. And one more reason to go take that walk, jog, bike ride, or horseback ride. We could do that with a small group of family or friends, too. I like the part about saying why the photo is meaningful.
I've reached some place in yoga where I'm getting it right a lot, and also getting some aha moments. It just feels like these yoga classes are what my body needs, and my mind benefits just as much. And I think my dancing is looking pretty darn good, though of course I enjoy working on making it better. So it's a good place mentally and physically. I do want to find ways to get outdoors to walk or hike more. Need to put it on the calendar in large letters, I guess.

Mara - I am sorry those buggers have appeared, but local radiation can take care of them. Keep moving. How are you feeling?
