Thanks everyone for the love and support and hugs and the pup picts (Pebbles they are, as always, adorbs!). Truly needed them all tonight. I am very anxious for tomorrow. Trying to remain hopeful that I will not have to fight to have my thyroid nodule biopsied and instead my MO will take charge and do all she can to ensure this is not METs or a new cancer all together. I will post as I can. Spoons are limited. May I sleep tonight....

Spoonie - a couple more pics for you! We are all thinking of you and will check in for an update tomorrow.

Spoonie, I’ve been thinking of you all weekend. My fingers and toes are crossed for you to have the simplest, most boring explanation for your recent symptoms. Regardless, we are all here for you. Sending love your way- update us when you can. (Pebbles, I’m so glad to see Tucker and Domino sharing their support. I’ve missed them - and you. I hope your mom continues to recover.)

It is sooooo hard being patient when waiting for a call from an Oncologist.
Thanks everyone for being in my pockets. And Tucker and Domino are the best....I am trying to be like them. Promise.

Still no call. Guessing I will be one of the end of the day calls. Ugggh. This feels like torture.

Boo. That stinks.

AGREED! I can smell it from here!

OMG. I called, again to leave a message and found out that no one has even been assigned to look into my messages from over the weekend or my voicemails from this morning regarding my abnormal scan and labs. UGGGGGGGGGGH!!!
Trying not to be upset, but I am......she said that hopefully someone will call me tonight.
This is just awful. Trying not to dive into a pool of tears.

Oh, Spoonie.... I wish doctors knew what it feels like to wait by the phone for test results that could completely change our lives. It totally sucks to know that it’s out of your hands. Please take three slow, deep breaths. Go ahead and dissolve into that puddle of tears if you’ll feel better. Do you have a local friend or family member that could come over and spend some time with you? Sending love and strength your way. Hugs, GreenHarbor.

Hey Spoonie - I agree waiting sucks wide and the medical profession tend to forget that it is an actual human with hopes and fears waiting for the news on the other end. I agree if a good cry will help go for it but get set up kleenex garbage bag (it ruins the moment if you have to pick up wet kleenex after your cry and use your sleeve). I know you are scared honey but really try to breath close your eyes and feel every last one of us giving you hugs and helping you to hold on. Will be thinking of you until you get your good answers.

I would call them back. I worked in health care and I'm just saying you need to call & tell them you have waited long enough and need your results now.

Spoonie - OMG I remember this and waiting and not knowing is the most frustrating part. Kudos to you for taking initiative and calling them! I think you need to keep bugging them. So sorry for the wait... if it helps, here is Domino totally empathizing with you. See that expression? That's says boo on waiting, but at least can be comfy while waiting!

In addition to these excellent suggestions, I prescribe wine and chocolate stat.

lol Edj3 great minds think alike! I did just that. Wine and chocolate down the hatch. I thought about calling again but I'd already called 3 times today. The last time mostly in tears. Le Sigh.
Thanks ladies for being here with me. It helps. And of course Domino takes the cake.
Its 5:30 here so unless she's doing after hr call tomorrow will be the day I guess.

Yes, wine is helpful! That’s what I always do while waiting for a doctor to call. I am so sorry, Spoonie! I just recently went through a similarly scary experience when a suspicious lesion was discovered in my humerus on a CAT scan, so I can fully empathize. I was sent to a bone scan and had to wait for the result for almost a week due to the complete unprofessionalism of the imaging facility. I thought I’ll kill myself. Where were Domino and Tucker when I needed them! The best thing you can do for yourself is sleep, because only when you sleep you can tune off the anxiety. Hence the wine as a sleep aide .
P.S. My bone scan was normal, so please believe your symptoms will have some innocent cause as well. Good luck to you! Stay strong.
Pebbles, welcome back! We had a major Domino withdrawal, so very glad to see you here.Wishing a speedy recovery to your mom.

oh Spoonie I am so sorry you have to wait even longer! Loved edj3’s advice 😁. I feel like we could all use that as a standing order to be used PRN! We are all here for you. I am sending all the good thoughts and strength for your wait. Go ahead and cry if you need to, hell throw in a scream or two if it helps!

Pls tell me I'm not the only one hitting refresh to see if Spoonie's got an update.

I’m right there with you, edj3. Fingers, toes and eyes are crossed!

No update yet. Uggggggh. It's Nearly 1:30 pm. I'm dying of anxiety...
Thankfully I called my MO's office as I was already scheduled for my Zoladex injection on Friday. Made sure I'm seeing her PA beforehand. If worst comes to worst, I'll have answers from her PA on Friday.
In other news, my Cancer Rehab Dr just upped my appt from mid Aug to tomorrow morning. I will be beyond happy to shove "It's not LE!" down my MO and PCPs throat afterwards
My left side continues to swell.... look at today.
This is the side that I have a swollen level 5B lymph node. On the opposite side, I have a dxd new right thyroid nodule, that is SOLID & HYPO-ECHOIC the size of a pea. SOMEONE TALK TO ME! GRrrrrr.
Will be such a relief to figure out what the heck is going on and rule out LYmphoma and Thyroid Cancer and METs!!!!

First, yeah it's definitely swollen.
Second, nice neck!

Same here edj3 I have been checking but now I have to head to work. Thinking of you spoonie!!!!

I have been checking repeatedly to! I thought something had gone crazy wrong because no one was updating on any thread I follow!
Spoonie- it's so hard to keep your brain from working over time after you have had a cancer diagnosis! SLOW DOWN BRAIN!!! Let Spoonie rest!
Keep us in the loop!

No one called. NO ONE. No one cares.
I got a FREAKIN email.
And I quote, "I have reviewed all of your records and scans with Dr. L. The nodule on your thyroid is very small, 1 cm. We could refer you to an endocrinologist for recommendations, let me know if you would like to proceed."
WITAF?????
I guess no one feels the need to discuss my results with me or to give the freakin courtouesy of a human conversation where I can ask questions and ask why we aren't scheduling a biopsy given I am FREAKIN high risk (according to MAYO) for thyroid cancer AND i have a HX of prior cancer.
JUST WTF ......I just want someone to talk to me. Totally shattered. Going to bed to cry and snuggle with my pooch.

Spoonie - OMG that is maddening. Here are Domino and Tucker saying, “What? No call? MEH.”
On the bright side, if they sent you an email it’s got to mean that it’s nothing over concerning to them so they prob don’t think it’s a recurrence otherwise they’d be more on it.
And it’s good your cancer rehab appt. got moved to tomorrow so you will at least get that face to face

Spoonie, you know yourself and your body better than anyone. Have a good cry tonight, cuddle the pooch and tomorrow get that referral with the endo. Also ask to make an appointment with whichever of your care team is most responsive. And vent here.
0 -
Spoonie - that is awful, I am so sorry for such an uncaring act. However edj3 gave you great advice cry cuddle vent repeat.. And Pebbles and her pups(adorable by the way) are right too. You get to see someone (hopefully one with a brain and heart tomorrow) and make that appt with the endo. Maybe repeat the wine and chocolate to help you get through the night. Will be here tomorrow to check in on you.

Spoonie, I just flipped all of those people off in my head for you! The gentlest of hugs for you my friend.

I just don't get it. They (doctors) preach to tell them when something has been going on for longer than two weeks, I'm doing just that, yet no one at all seems to be concerned. It is maddening. Especially with having a lymph node AND a thyroid nodule appearing on freakin imaging, to go along with the fever, weight loss (yeah, I lost another 2 pounds in 2 days), and NO ONE cares.
Yes, while it could be nothing, it might not be a recurrence, it still could be. Until someone can prove that it's not cancer, I'd rather have this thing biopsied than say "ehhh no big deal". Ugggh. I just want a doctor to talk to me. No one wants to. Why????
I'm sorry ya'll. I have watched my brother die from lymphoma. I have seen both of my siblings struggle with their Thyroid cancers. And I am SCARED TO DEATH of METs. I just want a doctor to explain things to me and yet, here I am with a dumb email and waiting for a referral.
It doesn't make sense to this logical mind of mine. I guess I'm just crazy.
THYROID METASTASES FROM A BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSED BY FINE-NEEDLE ASPIRATION BIOPSY
"Breast cancer is less frequent, but a new thyroid mass should be considered as a metastasis of breast carcinoma in any patient with a former history of this malignancy. Breast metastatic cancer is evaluated at ca. 16.0 to 32.0% in postmortem examinations, but only 4.0–9.0% cases are encountered in clinical papers [2, 8, 13]. Metastatic disease of the thyroid could present as single nodule, multinodular goiter or thyroiditis [2, 10]."
Management of the Solitary Thyroid Nodule
"Nodule size in not predictive of malignancy, and the risk for cancer in a thyroid nodule has been shown to be the same regardless of the size on ultrasound [22, 24, 26]. Previous guidelines had recommended that the decision to perform a fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) should be based on nodules >10 mm. It has now been demonstrated that cancer in nodules <10 mm is not less frequent, and if this value is used as a cutoff, then a significant proportion of cancers will be missed [22]. The prevalence of extracapsular or metastatic growth was shown to be similar in nodules >10 mm and <10 mm [22, 27]."
"The primary aim in investigating a thyroid nodule is to exclude the possibility of malignancy, which occurs in about 5% of nodules. This begins with a thorough history, including previous exposure to radiation and any family history of thyroid cancer or other endocrine diseases. Clinical examination of the neck should focus on the thyroid nodule and the gland itself, but also the presence of any cervical lymphadenopathy. Biochemical assessment of the thyroid needs to be followed by thyroid ultrasound, which may demonstrate features that are associated with a higher chance of the nodule being malignant. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy is crucial in the investigation of a thyroid nodule."
My nodule is 1 cm, hypo-echoic, and solid....according to this I should be getting a biopsy. So why am I not???? Estimated risk of malginancy is 10-20%. Uggggh.

Thanks everyone for the flippin-off of an email, for the suggestions of more wine and chocolate. Sadly I am out of wine, so another choco bar will have to do. The pooch and I tried to sleep, but I am not getting a migraine and these hot flashes just won't stop, soooo I am going to find something good on Netflix and binge away.
I would totes lose my mind without ya'll. Thank you for being here. Hugs to you all. Many times over.
Here is Gypsy (jack russell/mini greyhound mix rescue) acting like I feel --- just bury me in the blankets and let's forget about life!
