    The news is online now:

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/23/politics/transition-biden-gsa-begin/index.html

The General Services Administration has informed President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from Administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN.

    >>>>The letter is the first step the administration has taken to acknowledge President Donald Trump's defeat, more than two weeks after Biden was declared the winner in the election.

Murphy said she had not been pressured by the White House to delay the formal transition and did not make a decision "out of fear or favoritism."

"Please know that I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available facts," Murphy wrote. "I was never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official -- including those who work at the White House or GSA -- with regard to the substance or timing of my decision. To be clear, I did not receive any direction to delay my determination."

Ruth -- you had a pretty normal day...good for you. I had a long day so I'm going to second what you did -- Yeah, right Emily. Sure thing. I don't know who it was but someone finally got through to Trump I think. He was upset that his lawyers were making him look bad ( they were ) along with themselves and they likely did screw up any very sm. hope Trump might have had of the SC stepping in. I'm not sure there would have been a lot for them to do. They would have needed the same or proof of any judge's working the numerous lawsuits Trump and lawyers had going.

I think it is a done deal now. Nothing will come of anything because there wasn't anything to begin with. I'm just glad we can start moving on to get rid of the orange menace. How much more golf will we all pay for till we get rid of that thing -- and all the weird things he put into positions they never should have had. I hope I tryly can start to feel relaxed now.

I have a sigh of relief every time Biden appoints someone to a position they're competent to hold. The bunch of know nothings we've had for 4 years were a joke.

Here’s another harbinger of Trump heading out:

Secret Service agents in the president's detail are being asked whether they're interested in transferring to Palm Beach, Florida, sources have told ABC News. The Secret Service's Miami field office also has begun looking at physical reinforcements to Mar-a-Largo, the president's club to which he refers as "the winter White House," the sources added. These moves are considered unofficial as Trump has yet to concede to Biden.

Dow Futures Surge After Trump Administration Begins Transition To Biden

    Sean Colarossi

    Nov 23rd, 2020

After the Trump administration formally started the transition process on Monday, Dow futures surged 200 points.

According to CNBC, "The move higher in futures came after General Services Administration chief Emily Murphy told President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is making federal resources available for his transition into office."

In other words, Trump's campaign-season talking point that a Biden victory would cause a stock market crash appears to be crumbling in real time.

In fact, the stock market seems optimistic about the future of the country under a Biden presidency, particularly given the strong staffing decisions he has made in recent days.

As CNBC also noted on Monday, the news that the president-elect will choose Janet Yellen to be the next Treasury secretary is a sign of good things to come for the economy.

"I think this is a strong sign that Biden will be focused on rebuilding the economy vs. pursuing aggressive regulatory policy," said Raymond James policy analyst Ed Mills, according to the report. "I would say that is a positive development for the market, but more importantly for the economy as a whole."

DH is feeling good and is asymptomatic (so far, knock on wood). He is a good example of why everyone should wear masks. You really have no idea who all are running around, feeling fine, and spreading the disease.

I am so thrilled every time I hear of a new Cabinet nominee with the words 'very experienced' and 'team player' tagged along with their name.

Loving the memes and entries. Ruth, you are so right. We just don't know who may be carrying covid. I'm rapidly reaching the point where I'm considering a mask ALL the time when I am out. I'm mainly concerned ( hope I didn't mention this yesterday here) that my BIL's ( staunch Reps. ) are going to a local restaurant -- if it is still on -- for Thanksgiving. Dh and I have never cared for the food there, however; we decided quite a bit ago that we would feel oh so much safer in our own home. My quandary with the BIL's is that I just am not at all sure ( though it is true our rates in our little areas here are not so bad at the meoment ) that they will ever come around totally to the idea that they could easily run afoul of someone who is a carrier and overlook it knowing that it is a Reps. like themselves. They seem to feel if its a Reps. they are safer. How foolish. Did they miss the part about the virus is just as happy to infect Reps. as anyone.

Wren, Divine, Ruth and everyone. It is an enourmous comfort to hear of the Biden picks for office/cabinet. To have a government that reflects stuidous, serious individuals who want us to succede for each other as well as for our allies and the world stage nearly leaves me breathless with anticipation. To be able to rest for periods and not worry daily ( sometimes several hrs. per day ) about what is taking place and better yet, to be able to know at all times that we are in safe, competent hands within our government just makes deep, long happy sighs feel so good to express.

Some experts seem to think at least a portion of Trump voters will start resuming more normal lives, not hinging on his every word, once he is not able to spew daily propaganda on social media and in the news. They say, you deprogram someone you've rescued from a cult by separation from their leader and he will no longer get the coverage he once did, so that in itself will help.

Trump’s Twitter account gets downgraded as soon as Biden is inaugurated. While he will still have millions of followers, he will no longer have presidential power. That power is what many of his fans feast on. They felt powerful because their guy had power. It's not going to be the same now. I can already feel the shift happening.

Main stream media. They share blame for Trump's rise in power. They gave so much credence to his earliest antics, saw the ratings “surge" and just followed the money by covering him extensively. Then they couldn't contain him and it got ugly. Think about it. It took 80 million people to stop Trump. So perhaps the media has learned some valuable lessons. But we will see.

All this is not to say that another demagogue can't rise to power. We must all remain vigilant. White supremacy ramped up exponentially under Trump's watch, and they will need reckoned with. For now, at least we get a break from the daily tweeting, bullying, lies and havoc-producing actions of Trump, enough so to catch a breath.

And yes, it's calming to learn Biden is making great, experienced Cabinet picks. Jackie, you called that one from the get-go, always saying Biden would surround himself with the best.

Trill -- that is so peaceful and a lovely word picture in addition to the picture farther on down.

Divine -- I so hope you are right and it sure sounds right -- that if Trump isn't courting the news networks daily, many of the people who found it easy to cling to him will let go. In fact, if Trump has to deal with lawsuits that can come DUE once he is out of office, he might find it better for him ( if he quits hiring idiotic cheap lawyers ) not to have anything to say at all. That could be hard for him -- especially since he has been able to use high office to stoke his narcissistic need for 24/7 notice and attention.

Mind all of you -- it could get a little dull around here since we were pretty much forced in to dramas on a daily/hourly basis. I confess I tend to watch too much cable news when before Mitch McConnell and Pres. Obama I watched almost all local with a very occasional cable view. Well, I'm ready for some dull and boring although I will be eager to watch Pres. Biden start to get us back together as a country and one to be proud of again. That will keep me going for a long time I think.

I'm just waiting to see who gets pick for AG. I'm thinking Sally Yates, but I'm sure there are a number of really good people.

Thanks, Jackie and a Happy Thanksgiving AND a "Thank you!" to you and all who kept things afloat here.....yeah, i'm feeling the air sorta calming now that he's slithering off......he can scream and cry and shout and project his own methodology and MO and inner self onto the world around him all he wants...

but folks have told him in enough numbers--

and where the EC votes count this time--

    millions more--

    as we did before--

that we didn't want him then--

and we don't want him NOW!!!

    So he goes!

    So it goes!

    Now we can heal......

    And eat some turkey.

    I'm doing a 21-pounder.

For myself as we can't get together this time around.

    And mashed potatoes.

    Fuck it.

    I'm EATING!!!

Ted Cruz haunted by ridiculous coronavirus prediction

Cruz effectively saw state and local Democratic officials as engaging in a sociopathic election-season scam. He was tragically, spectacularly wrong.

    Nov. 24, 2020

It was four months ago when Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) appeared on camera and made a bold prediction about the coronavirus pandemic.

"If it ends up that Biden wins in November — I hope he doesn't, I don't think he will — but if he does, I guarantee you the week after the election, suddenly all those Democratic governors, all those Democratic mayors, will say, 'Everything's magically better. Go back to work. Go back to school. Suddenly all the problems are solved.' You won't to have to wait for Biden to be sworn in. All they'll need is Election Day and suddenly their willingness to just destroy people's lives and livelihoods, they will have accomplished their task. That's wrong. It's cynical. And we shouldn't be a part of it."

To be sure, the Texas Republican wasn't alone in making comments like these. Indeed, Donald Trump spent much of the summer and fall pushing an identical line, confident in his belief that state and local officials were only pretending to care about limiting the spread of a deadly virus.

Sure, those rascally Democrats and public-health officials said their mitigation efforts were intended to save lives and prevent systemic breakdowns at hospitals, but the Republican president and his allies knew better. They knew it was all just an elaborate ruse, motivated entirely by the campaign.

Cruz, however, went further than most. As far as the GOP senator was concerned in July, Democrats were not simply pretending to care about the spread of COVID-19, they also were "willing" to "destroy people's lives and livelihoods" in order to make Trump look bad.

Or put another way, Cruz effectively saw Democratic officials at the state and local level as engaging in a sociopathic election-season scam, which would all be revealed the moment Joe Biden became the president-elect.

    The Texan "guaranteed" it.

We'll probably never know much real-world harm the senator did with rhetoric like this. It's impossible to say how many Americans heard such talk, assumed he was right, believed the coronavirus pandemic was more of a political scheme than public-health threat, and failed to take necessary precautions in their daily lives.

But as we're seeing across the country right now, in the midst of a brutal third peak, as Joe Biden prepares to assume the presidency, Ted Cruz was tragically, spectacularly wrong.

By all appearances, it's unrealistic to think the senator will express any regrets for slandering public officials and peddling such odious garbage during a crisis. If, however, he's still capable of shame, now would be an excellent time for some.

Ruth, so glad life is getting back to normal for you!

Watched Biden's rollout of his national-security/foreign-policy team and almost wept with joy--not just because he's fulfilling his diversity promise but because they're all brilliant grownups with not just expertise but also experience in the very departments they'll be heading. I can see McConnell thus far obstructing only the DHS nominee (who advocates DACA, reuniting families separated at the border, and taking refugees seriously). Sadly, I'm also sure that whoever the AG-designate will be, (s)he'll meet a Senatorial brick wall (only Romney, Collins and Murkowski can be counted on to vote to confirm) unless a double miracle happens in GA.

I wanna scream when I watch airport interviews with those stupid, selfish travelers saying how important Thanksgiving is for them and their families and they are willing to risk their health and lives for it. Why do I say "stupid?" Because if they get infected, they won't be risking their own or even just their families' lives: they are risking ALL OF US because that's how community spread happens. It was recently thought that even small family gatherings were the primary drivers of the surge; but it turns out (according to contact tracing) that the spreaders at those gatherings had gone unmasked and undistanced to parties, religious services, indoor restaurants & bars, and had traveled on public transit.

So it's with only a little trepidation that we're having our son & his girlfriend over for drinks & nibbles tomorrow night. If it rains, we'll gather on the porch rather than the uncovered deck (we'll plug in a little ceramic disc heater); if that's too cold, we will--masked between sips & bites--retreat to the back 3 rooms (dining, kitchen, den) where the four of us can spread out & converse audibly, and the screened windows can be opened wide. (We'll have to crank up the heat, of course, but only for those few hours).
