We've been getting awful mail delivery lately--over a week with no mail at all (and it's happening all over Chicago). Finally got some tonight (yes, night). Lots of neighbors complaining that USPS or UPS SurePost packages were listed as "delivery attempted" or "handed to addressee" but they'd been home all day and no carrier ever visited them. (Happened to me twice this spring). We've all been blaming this on the pandemic, with workers quitting out of fear or burning out from 12-hr shifts. Chicago's USPS office hired only 200 new workers for the entire city.
But it's more ominous than that, acc. to an article in Salon by Robert Reich, who got ahold of an internal USPS memo written by Trump's new Postmaster General--a major donor who never worked a day in a post office. All overtime has been canceled. The branches have actually been ordered to delay deliveries--not to save money but undermine confidence in the mail system and thus suppress voting by mail, forcing voters to choose between their lives and their right to vote. Carriers have been ordered to return all remaining undelivered mail at the ends of their shifts to the post offices or even distribution centers, rather than work late to deliver them.

Jackie, hope you are resting comfortably and that the surgery was successful. Barnes is an excellent cancer hospital. Here's to a speedy & uneventful recovery and easily endurable treatment. Check back in here only when you feel ready to do so. Thinking of & praying for you.

Crazy times are upon us!
Wait a minute...... what am I talking about?
Crazy times have been upon us for THREE AND A HALF YEARS!i
(CNN)The White House is blocking US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield and other officials from the agency from testifying before a House Education and Labor Committee hearing on reopening schools next week, just as the debate over sending children back to classrooms has flared up across the US.

Back home a day early. A bumpy 75 mile trip home but home is where the heart is and so I'm sore but happy. Thanks for all the positive wishes.

For some unknown reason I received a letter and survey form from DT and the RNC. So it asked a series of questions about how he is doing against Covid, with the economy, etc and asked if I was pleased with his performance. Of course, I have not been and there has been nothing over the past 3.5 years that would change my mind, so I answered to the negative. Best question yet was to choose between a list of pre-identified items as to which he should address on his re-election agenda and one was about the wall being a priority (not) and tax breaks (only the rich made out on that one) and lastly, the other option. Just for fun I wrote in that he, McConnell and Graham should resign. My DH was LHAO at my responses and said it was well worth the price of a stamp to send it back. It asked for a donation with recommended amounts and a fill-in-the-blank area that I wrote in $0.00. It felt so good. I am sure it will end up in the circular file but it was still cathartic.
I want the above t-shirt.

So glad you are home. Sleep in hospitals is vastly overrated. Now take care of yourself for the next few days.

Welcome home, Jackie!

Did anyone else notice that the model wearing the "I wear a mask" T-shirt wasn't wearing a mask? xD

Glad things went well, Jackie. “Sleep in a hospital” is an oxymoron for me. I find the beds uncomfortable but mostly, I am always aware of comings and going in the hall and nurses and techs coming in at all hours to check various things. I know you’re happy to be home😊. Rest up

We lost an icon and giant (and a saint) tonight: Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), civil rights pioneer, and champion of civil rights and democracy till his last breath at age 80. Rest in peace, power and glory, Sir.

Rest in peace Rep. Lewis.

Washington Post:
John Lewis gone? Impossible. As long as the vestiges of slavery and Jim Crow linger, as long as African Americans and people of color continue to suffer from the damages and losses growing out of racism and deprivation, his living legacy is with us. Because he has given us what is lasting.
