I think the second to last paragraph put the best emphasis on the whole conversation with R. Paul. I wondered about it all the way through but it immediately cleared up when I saw that paragraph. There is an awful lot of company wearing R. Paul's shoes right now. I hope the impeachment helps that somewhat if they vote guilty and I most definitely hope the case becomes STRONG enough for that to happen.

How I think Zoom would work through BCO is; they would set it up and either email us the link or post the information here.

If we don't want to wait that long (our discussion group doesn't even meet again until mid-February), I could set something up (I have a free account, so we would be limited to 40 minutes) and we could try it ourselves. What I would do is post the information here & you could just click on the link (sometimes that doesn't work on IPads, but I would also list the meeting ID & Password so that you could type them in if the link doesn't work).

I believe we stretch across all the North American time zones and we have working women amongst us. Would a Saturday work best? Maybe mid-morning, early afternoon? For example: 1:00 pm Eastern, noon Central, 11:00 am Mountain, 10:00 am Pacific. Let me know your thought on that, If you guys want, I could set something up for this coming Saturday.....or whatever day/time works best for those interested.

Illinois, we could do a practice run if you want! In fact that might be a good thing for me to do too.

Presidential trivia: Biden is the very first U.S President named Joseph, a.k.a. “Joe”.

I personally love the name, it’s just so down to earth. It’s no-nonsense, masculine, relatable and has an “I can get the job done” feel to it. Exactly what we need at this time in our country.

Interesting Divine -- about the name Joe. I immediately thought of G.I. Joe. Just popped in there. I think though you are right. It is a name that just has a good, solid feel -- maybe like biblical Joseph. Good, right, strong. I'm hoping that JOE is able to pull out all the intensely bad and negative that we have endured these past four or so yrs. and help us go back to something far more kind, caring and honorable. Maybe a tall order -- but a far better thing to put into our Universe for all to live and partake of, I feel.

Yes, practice hopefully will make us Zoom perfect.

I'm feeling some concern over some of the Reps. that seem to be pulling back and changing their tunes now on the orange one. I think a lot of it may be that the Reps. party is so chaotic itself. They must wonder if their will be a party split off and obviously that while fantastic for Democrats would just diminish an already fractured party. They also want to change the rules in states again to make it harder ( mainly for Democrats ) to vote. Once again -- they are for most for power and greed and how to get it quick rather than finding ways to actually find and interest new people into their party. If people are not showing up that is the solution -- stop more of us. Aarrgg.

White House staff welcomes new first family: 'The residence has life again'

(CNN) — The new President and first lady settled in at the White House this weekend, and did so with extended Biden family members.

"The residence has life in it again," a White House source told CNN of the energy inside. "It's the honeymoon period where everything feels new."

There were nighttime movie binges in the White House movie theater, complete with snacks from the White House kitchen cooks, many of the Bidens' five older grandchildren piling into the seats to watch, said another source familiar with the activities. The increased activity was met with pandemic precautions, including mask wearing.

On Sunday, the first dogs arrived from Delaware, where they had been waiting until things were unpacked and settled enough to allow a comfortable entry for the two German Shepherds at their new pad.

"Champ is enjoying his new dog bed by fireplace and Major loved running around the South Lawn," the White House said a press release early Monday morning. Champ lived at the vice president's residence during the Biden's time there, and Major was adopted by the family in 2018 from a Delaware pet rescue.

Sunday saw a church-and-bagel run by the President, son Hunter and granddaughters Finnegan and Maisy. The narrow streets of Georgetown were clogged with motorcade vehicles while Hunter ran to grab bagels from Call Your Mother, a popular deli. (The choice of stop was tinged with a shmear of swamp: one of Call Your Mother's owners and investors is Jeff Zients, Biden's Covid "czar." According to the Washingtonian, much of the recipe-testing for the deli's first location was done in Zients' kitchen.)

Biden's visit to a DC dining establishment on Day 5 of his presidency already ties him with the number of local restaurants former President Donald Trump visited. In his four years in Washington, Trump seldom ate out and when he did, only did so at one place -- the steakhouse at the Trump hotel.

Yet all of the new people in the White House residence meant more stringent Covid-19 precautions, a stark reminder of the pandemic amid a week of celebratory events.

"The family was good about it," said the White House source of adherence to mask-wearing and being socially distant from staffers.

"Every employee is masked especially when near the family," added a longtime residence staff member who said the Biden family does remove their masks once on the second floor of their private quarters. The staff member told CNN that the majority of the residence workers -- including ushers, butlers, housekeepers and cooks -- have had at least the first round of Covid-19 vaccination and several have received both shots.

The White House did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment on the staff vaccinations.

The residence staff is operating "as usual," said the first White House source, noting the departure of chief usher and Trump hire, Timothy Harleth, which occurred on Inauguration Day. The move was initiated by a senior Biden administration official prior to the first family's arrival at the White House. White House residence staff typically stay on in their roles through different administrations, politically unaffiliated with presidents and first ladies. But Harleth was hired by Melania Trump in 2017 from Trump's Washington hotel, where he was a manager. In recent weeks, he had made a play to stay in the Biden White House, say several sources, to no avail.

"He was not particularly well-liked," said a former White House official of Harleth's reputation inside the White House, adding there was friction between Harleth and Trump's social secretary.

The chief usher's office is currently being operated by Katie Hinson, who was deputy chief usher under Trump, until the first lady installs her choice to fill the role of chief.

Former President Donald Trump was the first occupant of the White House not to have a dog in over 100 years — since William McKinley was president, in 1897. (My note: William McKinley was not without pets. He brought an angora cat and her two kittens with him to the White House.)

The paper this morning had an article about Warnock. One of his advisors suggested having a dog in his TV ad. So they photographed him with a beagle on a leash with Warnock in a puffer vest in front of a white picket fence. A follow-up ad showed Warnock & beagle depositing a poop bag in the garbage. Evidently the ad worked pretty well and made Warnock much more relatable to white audiences. Very clever. It wasn't his dog. He has had 3 dogs in the past, all mutts, but doesn't currently have one. It definitely caught the attention of dog lovers.

I adore dogs. I only had goldfish & turtles as childhood pets (which is to say I grieved fairly often till I gave up). I always loved other people's dogs. When after 7 years of marriage, living in a no-pets-allowed building, we moved to Chicago, I always thought if we had a pet it'd be a pooch. Well, a mouse infestation (courtesy of digging & construction next door) and the landlord's response to our request for an exterminator being "Get a kitty-cat. Just take the litter down to the dumpster yourself because the janitor's allergic" made me a confirmed cat-person. We're on our fifth & sixth kitties in the 43 years we've lived here. Longest we went w/o a cat was four months. I still love dogs...but I have since realized just how lazy I am, especially during lousy Chicago winters. Not to mention I'm also not a morning person.

But I just learned the Bidens will be adding to their WH menagerie: a rescue cat. One more reason to love them.

About an inch or of snow has fallen so far, but by the time I have to leave tomorrow morning for my vaccination we should have between 3-5" here by the lake. Gonna give myself plenty of time--make sure I add a bottle of water, an extra Atkins bar, and a travel mug for drive-through Dunkin' coffee to my "go-bag" (which also has crossword puzzle book, essential meds, toothbrush, nightgown, t-shirt & extra undies). Maybe bring a second cell phone too (though I can make phone calls from my Apple Watch). Already have brushes, scraper, mini-shovel, extra wiper fluid, jumper cables, reflective triangles, tire gauge and a mini-compressor in case I get a flat. My gas tank is >3/4 full. If I get my shot on time and make it home safely, I'm holing up for the rest of the day.

Good luck on the vaccine rollout, Sandy!

The return of pets to the White House is another return to normalcy. It was appalling how many regular, everyday things around the WH fell to the wayside that Trumpers could have cared less about, tried to tell us were unimportant. The crudeness, lack of culture and callousness of the Trump admin was a full-out assault to the senses.

    **************************

And even official protocol was bulldozed over. Amazing the Trump admin blew this off but it was par for their course. But Trumpers were okay with it.

An American Sign Language interpreter will now appear at all White House press briefings

(CNN) — The Biden administration will have an American Sign Language interpreter at every White House briefing, press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday.

"As a part of this administration's accessibility and inclusion efforts, starting today we will have an ASL, an American Sign Language interpreter for our daily press briefings," Psaki said at Monday's briefing.

"The President is committed to building an America that is more inclusive, more just and more accessible for every American, including Americans with disabilities and their families."

The first interpreter was identified only as Heather and appeared virtually at the bottom of the screen while Psaki gave her remarks.

The administration was praised for having the Pledge of Allegiance signed simultaneously with its recitation at the inauguration last Wednesday.

The move set a different tone from the previous administration, which was sued in August by the National Association of the Deaf and five deaf Americans for not providing ASL interpreters at Covid-19 briefings.

A federal judge ordered the Trump administration in September to provide ASL interpreters at the briefings beginning October 1, whether in person or via video

Twitter has permanently banned My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell's account after he continually perpetuated the baseless claim that Donald Trump won the 2020 U.S. presidential election

Twitter has permanently banned My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell's account after he continued to perpetuate the baseless claim that Donald Trump won the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Twitter decided to ban Lindell, who founded bedding company My Pillow, due to "repeated violations" of its civic integrity policy, a spokesperson said in a statement. The policy was implemented last September and is targeted at fighting disinformation.

It was not immediately clear which posts by Lindell on Twitter triggered the suspension of his account.

Lindell, a Trump supporter, has continued to insist that the presidential electionwas rigged even after U.S. President Joe Biden's administration has begun.

Major retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl's have said that they would stop carrying My Pillow's products, Lindell previously said.

Lindell is also facing potential litigation from Dominion Voting Systems for claiming that their voting machines played a role in alleged election fraud. He had also urged Trump to declare martial law in Minnesota to obtain its ballots and overturn the election.

Following the storming of the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, Twitter has banned over 70,000 accounts for sharing misinformation. Trump, who had urged on the mob, has also had his account permanently suspended.

God, I LOVE our new president. I listened to his press conference this afternoon about the covid vaccine roll-out. His administration has made this the full-on priority. He's just about a week into his term, and it sounds like he has already got a handle on his plan, having inherited absolutely nothing in the form of a pandemic response from the previous admin,

Here is basically what he went over, but he said it in such relatable, down-to-earth words that I was filled with gratitude we finally have someone leading our country.

Biden administration to boost vaccine supply amid shortages

    AP

The Biden administration is boosting purchases of coronavirus vaccines to deliver enough to protect 300 million Americans by the end of the summer, as it surges deliveries to states for the next three weeks following complaints of shortages and inconsistent supplies.

President Joe Biden announced the surge in deliveries to states Tuesday afternoon, along with the news that the federal government is purchasing an additional 100 million doses each of the two approved coronavirus vaccines. With existing purchases, the White House expects to be able to deliver enough of the two-dose regimens to states to vaccinate 300 million people.

The purchases from drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna come as the Biden administration is trying to ramp up vaccine production and states' capacities to inject them into arms. Even more vaccine could be available if federal scientists approve a single-dose shot from Johnson & Johnson, which is expected to seek emergency authorization in the coming weeks.

Biden also announced a roughly 16% boost in deliveries to states over the coming weeks, amid complaints of shortages so severe that some vaccination sites around the U.S. had to cancel tens of thousands of appointments with people seeking their first shot.

Detailed figures posted on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website Tuesday showed that the government plans to make about 10.1 million first and second doses available next week, up from this week's allotment of 8.6 million. The figures represent doses of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. The increase comes amid complaints from governors and top health officials about inadequate supplies and the need for earlier and more reliable estimates of how much vaccine is on the way so that they can plan accordingly.

Seeking to ease those concerns, Biden was set to pledge to provide states with firm vaccine allocations three weeks ahead of delivery to allow for accurate planning for injections.

Biden's announcement was to follow his administration's first virus-related call with the nation's governors Tuesday.

The administration has also promised more openness and said it will hold news briefings three times a week, beginning Wednesday, about the outbreak that has killed over 420,000 Americans.

The setup inherited from the Trump administration has been marked by miscommunication and unexplained bottlenecks, with shortages reported in some places even as vaccine doses remain on the shelf.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Biden's brand-new CDC director, was herself flummoxed over the weekend in trying to describe current supplies.

"I can't tell you how much vaccine we have," she told "Fox News Sunday," describing the problem as a challenge left by the outgoing Trump administration. "And if I can't tell it to you, then I can't tell it to the governors, and I can't tell it to the state health officials."

Officials in West Virginia, which has had one of the best rates of administering vaccine, said they have fewer than 11,000 first doses on hand even after this week's shipment.

"I'm screaming my head off" for more, Republican Gov. Jim Justice said.

California, which has faced criticism over a slow vaccine rollout, announced Tuesday that it is centralizing its hodgepodge of county systems and streamlining appointment sign-up, notification and eligibility. Residents have been baffled by the varying rules in different counties.

And in Colorado, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis said that the limited supply of vaccine from the federal government is prompting the state to repurpose second doses as first doses, though he expects that people scheduled for their second shot will still be able to keep their appointments.

The weekly allocation cycle for first doses begins on Monday nights, when federal officials review data on vaccine availability from manufacturers to determine how much each state can have. Allocations are based on each jurisdiction's population of people 18 and older.

States are notified on Tuesdays of their allocations through a computer network called Tiberius and other channels, after which they can specify where they want doses shipped. Deliveries start the following Monday.

A similar but separate process for ordering second doses, which must be given three to four weeks after the first, begins each week on Sunday night.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the CDC reported that just over half of the 44 million doses distributed to states have been put in people's arms. That is well short of the hundreds of millions of doses that experts say will need to be administered to achieve herd immunity and conquer the outbreak.

The U.S. ranks fifth in the world in the number of doses administered relative to the country's population, behind No. 1 Israel, United Arab Emirates, Britain and Bahrain, according to the University of Oxford.

The reason more of the available shots in the U.S. haven't been dispensed isn't entirely clear. But many vaccination sites are apparently holding large quantities of vaccine in reserve to make sure people who have already gotten their first shot receive the required second one on schedule.

To tell a lie in cowardice, to tell a lie for gain, or to avoid deserved punishment--are all the blackest of black lies. On the other hand, to teach one to try one's best to avoid the truth--even to press it when necessary toward the outer edge of the rainbow--for a reason of kindness, or of mercy, is far closer to the heart of truth than to repeat something accurately and mercilessly that will cruelly hurt the feelings of someone. -Emily Post

Also loving the sanity and coming out of the WH now. Also not having to get up everyday wondering what absurdity would be coming out of the orange mouth/fecal head of the person then inhabiting the WH. That he and many of his ilk are losing their abilities to communicate on some social medias just totally delights me.

I think we will always get wind of anything important, but I think that could also mean we won't have to hear that much. I do think orange thing will end up fairly busy trying to defend himself against a lot of things in a lot of places. He has little brand left and I think that becomes far worse. So, there will not be much reason to have to listen to him. The impeachment will have some interest and he has good representation for that I think, but frankly -- I don't see how much you can do with something that took place on national television and in fact had its beginnings well before Jan. 6th. Sounds to me like a good chance ( unless something drastically alters what is now known ) orange may not be convicted this time either -- but in my mind's eye -- no matter what the Reps. have brought disaster down on themselves that they can't make better. Those who align with Q will likely go either before the next election or at that time. They along with too many Reps. will look ridiculous and insane up next to a WH that functions and is caring and honest and hard-working. I don't even know if Biden golfs or knows how to.

Love the new press conferences. So great not to have to gag on lies all the time.
