Betrayal, maybe that should be a whole week, not just a shift. How easy to look away when there is plenty of millions hiding the view of the ordinary man's life just trying to keep going. How horrid to be sooo okay with ignoring suffering while in my view and many others, wasting the opportunity to feed and care for some people just to view the earth from 60 miles up. I have little patience with people like that who are so far removed in their comforts that they ignore completely why and how they got there. Did they EVER see real need???

I seriously doubt he could survive just the one shift but a week long trial sounds good to me. The kicker is we both pay more in taxes than he ever has since he launched Amazon. This is why the rich need to step up and pay their fair share.

The farm that was formerly owned by the woman who served as the model for the lead character for the Philadelphia Story was just subdivided into large plots protected under the auspices of the National Land grant because they left part of the area still be used for raising steer (very far from nouses because they do smell). Therefore they can now claim they are "farms" and literally pay no land taxes, school taxes, etc on multimillion dollar homes. True, they cannot subdivide their plots but this is how the rich work the system. They also ensured that these are private grounds so the public cannot use their roads or walk on their plots. However, they will most likely want to use public services such as police and fire protection without contributing a nickel to their support. The county is looking into how this was accomplished since it was done on the qt and wants those taxes. I am sure the loophole they are looking for will be hard to find.

Betrayal, that is an extremely frustrating situation you’ve described. It would seem the rich hire people to research looking for these kinds of opportunities to exploit their wealth.

Peace of mind just can't be bought. Trust me: Even if your conscience doesn't stop you from playing dirty to get what you want, once you get it, it will keep you from enjoying it. As my mother used to say, "A good conscience is God's eye." Which is why I always prefer a loss to an underhanded gain; the one brings pain at the moment, the other for all time. -Patti LaBelle

I too, was convinced long ago that people acquired enough money at some point to be able to hire others to help them keep it and get even way more. I'm not against making money. I applaud it, but it does highly irritate when the driving force is in the acquisition of more and not in paying your fair share as well as doing your part to bring your fellow man along. Yes -- there are cheats to the system and that is not good, but rather help a cheat them let a poor soul down who only needs a small helping hand and who in fact would find themselves satisfied and grateful and not looking for more.

I think this got telegraphed fairly soon after some ( thinking McCarthy here ) after Trump heard some of the Reps. reaction to what he did.

How can people not see that Republicans do not want to investigate the Jan 6 insurrection because so many of them are guilty of at the very least being complicit?

Locally, I’ve noticed a subtle increase in new Trump flags. On one of the very nice, more pricey homes in a prominent place in town, I saw a new T flag hanging on the front door! Someone else has a f*ck Biden flag, and I’ve seen those ones a few other places outside of town. I know freedom of speech and all, but it’s vulgar and we weren’t subjected to crap like that before the orange blight. One heartening thing I saw was a house with a T flag and beside it, the next house had a multi-worded sign saying black lives matter/science is real/women’s rights are human rights, ect.

I was so touched and disturbed by the officer's testimonys today. I don't know how anyone can defend and/downplay/ignore this most horrifying attack on Democracy and those who defend it.

I worked all day and only got to see a little bit of one officer's testimony. It was horrid. The Reps. have been backed so far into their ORANGE corner they have lost sight of what is just, fair, Constitutional and how people are looking and seeing this. I'm sure many of them think they are going to ( because for most of his life he was good at it ) be able to pull this off with all their subversive and suppressive tactics, but I'm certainly feeling the opposite and likely will continue. The Reps. are working overtime to try and distract people to the max so the REAL truth won't emerge, but their pile of wrong-doings and wrong representatives is already high. The orange thing is on fire with idiocy, and there will be great truth coming out of these hearings. They are ( not matter how the rt. will try ) absolutely bi-partisan and I think the Reps are trying to dig up a mountain with thimbles. I don't think they can do it. I think they are going to end up in a rather pathetic un-tenable state and it will be all their fault.

I'm so pissed off at Governor Newsome! It has just come out that he sent 2 of his kids to a summer camp where masks weren't required although wearing a mask was certainly a choice. He is so f cking tone deaf when it comes to certain things. He does This during a recall election--he is a moron and if that doesn't give Big Ammunition to those who want him out, I can't think of anything better. I was really pissed a few months ago when he went to that dinner where masks weren't required or at least he didn't wear one--and the party was for a lobbyist, who is a friend of his. Rich, white man flaunting the rules. This was so stupid and apparently he isn't doing that well in the polls. He could do great, great things but jeeze. I thought his wife was the one who had good sense but I guess she is hopeless. We need him so much to bring us out of all of this. It's just a perfect example of what the opposition hates. Sorry I had to vent. I think I read political posts here--if not ok, just let me know and I'll delete.

Cowgirl, your post seems perfectly fine to me and your frustration is understandable! The Dems don’t need to give the GOP any ammunition, and you’d think Newsome would grasp that very simple fact.

To All: I caught most of the hearing. I was moved to tears. I am glad the networks decided not to bleep out the racial slurs and swear words. To hear it in it totality, unabridged, shows how truly disgusting those people were. For some the language was shocking -- but the actions of the rioters were shocking. And still the Repugnicians act like it is all about the radical left trying to be mean to Trump. If I was an American I would find Cheney and Kinzinger waaay too far right and conservative for me but they are conducting themselves with honour. The Right cannot claim it is not bi-partisan.

Biden has stop being such a gentleman. This is not the Senate he was sworn into all those years ago. The SOB's don't give a rat's ass about the people of the USA. Why they are afraid of barely 30% of voters and held in thrall of the (as a read a Scot calling 45) "cheeto-faced, ferret wearing shit-gibbon is beyond me. He is not charismatic. He sounds like the drunk at the end of the bar prattling nonsense.

I despair that the USA won't recover from all of this. Not in my lifetime.

Many social media comments I’ve read on the hearing say that the testimony of the officers is the most moving and heart wrenching they’ve ever heard. Those officers must be beyond frustrated, boiling mad about how most of the Republicans they fought to protect that day will not acknowledge the crimes that were committed. Then McCarthy and McConnell both said they were too busy to watch the hearing. Now that is simply garbage! Beyond offensive. What bastards.

I post very sparingly about political matters on my FB page; but Ruth, I will be putting your “I’m with them” meme on my page now.

In a story about Democrats gettin' rowdy:

Protesters shut down Greene-Gaetz Jan. 6 event

    07/27/21 The Hill

A news conference held by House GOP firebrands was cut short Tuesday after a group of counterprotesters gathered behind the lawmakers.

The coalition, led by Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz ,Louie Gohmert and Paul Gosar , were holding a news conference outside the DOJ to protest the treatment of individuals arrested in connection to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, when counterprotesters arrived on the scene. But they were repeatedly interrupted and eventually ended the event after counterprotesters got too close to the speakers.

One protester repeatedly blew a whistle during the event, and other demonstrators were holding signs that read "Jan 6th was an inside job, vets for democrats" and "Traitors + Rapists: Sit Down," the latter likely referring to Gaetz, who is under investigation for an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

    ***

So these Repug bastards held a news conference claiming those arrested for the Jan 6 insurrection are being treated unfairly and they want a report from Merrick Garland! Gosar said: "These are not unruly or dangerous, violent criminals, these are political prisoners who are now being persecuted during the pain of unjust suffering,"

I mean.........a meme I saw said "I'm getting a lot of exercise from shaking my head these days."

Divine: one woman followed Gaetz as he left shouting "Mr. Gaetz are you a pedophile?" repeatedly. I would not have put in the "Mr." As for calling the insurrectionists political prisoner ----- puleeze. My DH says the reason he has trouble with his fingers on his right hand is that his middle finger has become permanently sprained from a prolonged upright position while watching the news.

Cowgirl13: This is the place to talk politics..

I wish I was a cartoonist. For the comment that the rioters were just tourists......like it was a school trip...I would draw little girls in rolled up at the waist pleated plaid skirts, white shirts, black or navy cardigans, knee socks and little black shoes climbing up the Capital's walls the way those cockroach insurrectionists did. Tourists.

IllinoisLady: I so hope you are right. I can only hope that the 246 years of democracy will prevail. Germany and Italy had no long history of self-governance. It was so easy for Hitler and Mussolini to sweep in. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. I find it interesting that both Canada and the USA started off with pretty much the same underpinnings - a monarchy etc. We kept the King. We turned into countries that seem the same but really are not. Perhaps it is because there are so few of us. A tiny population on a huge piece of land. Lots of minerals 20% of the world's freshwater so I can envision the USA ultimately invading us for the water.

Maybe it is our respective country's mottos

USA: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

Canada: Peace, order and good government

We do not say "eh" all the time but we do tend to say "sorry" a lot. Smile

Just so with all of you on the officer's testimonies in all the gut wrenching emotion. Hard to imagine the turmoil they have likely felt to be treated all this time in such cavalier fashion by the people they worked so hard to save. I do feel there are some on the other side who find lots of ( it is mainly silent of course ) disagreement with Trump and if they thought they could, would walk away in a heartbeat as Cheney and Kinzinger have. Well, they could but likely are hoping something else will crop up to take care of it. That could happen. I keep reading that the 'shit-gibbon' is mainly the worse for wear since he has been away long enough and w/o social media outlets for the most part. Also that his handlers are trying not to let him out too often since it is the old song and dance of conspiracy theories, total lies, and off-script meanderings that have nothing to do with the current events of the political world.

It actually sounds like he could be really OUT of it by the time '24 is close. That or perhaps even something coming out of SDNY or DOJ even. All of these investigations start at the bottom and work inward till they get to the top so the progression for Gibbon and company should only get heavier and much harder to bear.

Sadly there are going to be people who refuse to HEAR. They still love their 'hero' who has given them back their ego's and personalities no matter how distorted, but those people are able to be such an influence on all the other Reps. who think they cannot go against the 'Gibbon'. I am reminded of the phrase be hasty and regret in leisure. I'm hoping that is how it turns out. So eager to join in matrimony to the orange one and may they all lose their seats and have lots of time to 'figure' out where they went wrong. Also hoping those who remain will know that letting go of Mr. Gibbon and his programs might actually give them some opportunity to restart and try to do better. That said, I'm hoping and praying that it will be some time before the Reps. have much power in their greedy little fists at all.
