Excerpt from the Washington Post - By Annie Gowen October 23, 2022 at 4:23 p.m. ET MANHEIM, Pa. โ
At the end, after former president Donald Trump called in to energize the troops, more than 100 people lined up to be baptized. Some had driven hours for the two-day ReAwaken America Tour in the leafy Pennsylvania countryside. Some had paid up to $500 for VIP tickets. They were 5,000 strong, celebratory but angry about where the country is headed. They said they believed the 2020 election was stolen, that vaccines kill people and that America โ both its moral and civic foundation โ is headed for complete collapse.
Now they were waiting to be baptized in a black plastic animal trough, leaving the water soaked and shivering โ newly cleansed soldiers in their war for America.
Since April of last year, the ReAwaken America Tour has brought hardline-election deniers, anti-vaccine doctors, self-proclaimed prophets and conspiracy theorists to enthusiastic crowds across the country. The central message is that America's white, evangelical Christian way of life is under threat from the globalist cabal on the "woke" left.
Hand gun and rifle themed American flags, hats and other MAGA gear are sold during the ReAwaken America Tour held in Manheim, Pa. (Jabin Botsford/The Washington Post).

And today's general quotation:
Whoever you are, there is some younger person who thinks you are perfect. There is some work that will never be done if you don't do it. There is someone who would miss you if you are gone. There is a good reason for becoming better than you are. There is a place that you alone can fill. -unattributed0 -

Love it, CardPlayer!
Thank you all for your encouragement and support. It's been kind of like the cancer journey: it's scary and big. Some things you can control, but many things you can't. You have to advocate for yourself if you want a certain outcome. You spend a lot of time waiting - for test results or for an agency decision. Financial decisions - which bills can I pay vs. how would I manage if I got fired. And having a group of friends sending good hopes your way really helps with all the crazy stressors.
Y'all are amazing!

((((Miriandra))))) Seems the way some of the most remarkable things get done is by those who in exasperation at being treated in a very wrong cavalier manner have the courage to go well outside the comfort zone.

Because I had to go to Walmart today. We are fortunate that if the clerks aren't busy in returns/service desk we can take our cart and check out there, as long as you have nothing to weigh. Whew !!! I will avoid self check-out every way I can unless there is no other possibility.

DH was in a Publix shortly after they installed self check out. Employee asked him why he didnโt use it instead of a cashier.
He replied โI donโt work here

I am going to be the odd woman out here. I love self checkout. I use it whenever itโs available. I donโt mind doing the โworkโ. I am generally faster and more efficient than traditional checkout. Yes, I understand the impact on jobs but this is just an evolution in the way we shop, IMO.

Iโm also a self checkout person. I hate standing behind large orders at a Lowes register when Iโm only buying a can of spray paint. Like exbrnxgrl, self checkout goes more quickly for me. A few years ago when it started getting popular, numerous older people even sought my help to learn how to scan their items. It saves them from standing in line at a busy Walmart register for a long time when theyโre only buying a few things.
Hereโs a phenomenon that happens to me at a non self checkout store. Iโm in line at the register of a busy store waiting, waiting, waiting my turn. It takes forever and then as soon as Iโm next and start loading my stuff onto the counter, one or more clerks come and open more registers. They never seem to do it before I get that far!

I sometimes do self checkout if I have a few items, otherwise I go through the line.

Opposition is a natural part of life. Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition--such as lifting weights--we develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.

I think I'd love one of those t-shirts too. Sure seems like way too many people (yes I'm talking in the main about those on the right) have forgotten the golden rule about doing unto others. It seems they only behave decently with each other for the most part, and the rest of us can just take that lump whether or no. I basically treat the Reps. in my life how I would like to be treated and far as I know they treat me okay as well, but I live in a small town much like Divine and people don't talk politics much here, especially those who own businesses of some kind. They don't talk religion either so on both of the " touchy " issues we do okay here. For the most part though it does seem to me that in most places, Reps. no longer even try to meet you half way.

I'm glad to hear others thought about the check-out issues. I usually end up being able to go directly to the returns area of our store an get checked out immediately. Many times, I think some of the clerks there are actually 'happy' to have something to do. This only works if you have nothing that needs to be weighed. I really don't wish to do a job I'm not paid for, but more importantly -- I don't like the idea that someone has to check your 'receipt'. on the way out -- and you may have to wait for that person since in our store there is usually only one. If they quit letting us go to the returns area I'm in trouble.

Not sure I'd put it in just those words, but it is a perfect concept.
